IMHO This was our first meal in Maui, having always wanted to visit Java Jazz, but never had the time until this trip! Java Jazz is whimsical and eclectic, to say the least. Just walk into this establishment, and you'll understand what I'm saying. Live music was playing and we had our choice of tables. We weren't really hungry but ordered a coconut shrimp appetizer and a cocktail and beer. Shrimp was good but not great. I wasn't sure if the shrimp was fully cooked, but I ate it anyway. Music was fantastic!

I wanted another breakfast place to go to that we haven't been to. I searched the reviews and picked this place. Not sure I did a good job. The place is up North from my resort and only a 5 minute ride, so it was close by. The reviews were just ok but I tried it. We got there and found a parking spot close to the restaurant. When we went it it was pretty packed. all tourist . I looked around but didn't see any seats. My wife and I went back to the front and a waiter said it would be a second, then directed us to a table all the way to the back of the place. Luckily the guy behind the bar said he got us. Otherwise I didn't think we would have gotten any service for a while. The place was packed full of weird stuff for decorations. The walls were written on by previous customers. It was a sight to see. Not sure it helped in know if the food would be good our not. It look Peruvian maybe. The guy looked possibly that or middle eastern? not sure. He brought us some menus and asked if we wanted coffee. I told him just water. I decided to go with eggs benedict to be safe. The wife decided on an omelet. The service was really slow and you could see people were already finished eating and wanted to pay but didn't have their bill. The place was full. We learned later that only two people were working today and the old man apologized for the slow service. My benedict wasn't too bad. The flavor was ok . My wife's omelet was a miss. It was lunch meat and canned pineapple and she said it was horrible. Oh well not a good pick. It seemed like a tourist trap especially the prices were crazy for the low quality food. We have eaten all over the island and had great food at way better prices no need to gouge on prices. We won't be back

Hello Fellow Yelpers We found this place by accident, which was great for us. Had dinner , I had the chef salad with a delicious vinaigrette and my sister had shrimp scampi. Both were very tasty. The best part of the night was the awesome waitress Samantha and the live music singer Chris Magee. We found out they also serve breakfast and we can back in the morning for this. We are coming back tonight to hear the live music again. I highly recommend you try this little hole in the wall restaurant/bar quirky place Remember to do random acts of kindness as it will make everyone feel wonderful Happy Yelping, please follow me for more awesome reviews

The decor of this place was unique. It's an old bar with fancy decorations, and dark art stuff. Not sure how to explain it, but some of the things didn't go. The place looked like it needed some care and updates. There were two servers, when we walked in. One told us to wait and the other told us to sit anywhere. We just decided to sit. It took them awhile to come by. But we finally put our order in. I ordered the Hawaiian omelette. It was awful. The omelette was very over cooked and they used thinly, sliced lunch meat for their ham and canned pineapple. There wasn't very much cheese. It didn't taste very good, it was very bad. The only thing I liked on my plate was the toast, and that was mediocre. You would think they would use fresh pineapple, you're in Hawaii! The omelette was overpriced, they charged $22. I compared other cafes and restaurants in the area and the restaurants don't charge as much. I would never come back. This was an awful experience. Service and food were bad. I think they are taking advantage of the tourist in the area. They are charging more than they should for their food. This is unfortunate.

If you're looking for dakine loco moco, this is it! The vibe is amazing and the food is excellent! This place will definitely be on our must stop places to eat!

I don't know who convinced these people that any of their food is worth anything over 15 dollars. Their wings are soggy and pretty much inedible. The fish and chips is huge disappointment, 20 dollars for 3 bits of fish and a mediocre amount of fries???? Other than that the service is okay, and the place looks nice. But to be completely honest you are better off spending your money somewhere else.

We came at 7pm for a drink and dessert. I found a great spot at the bar to listen to the one man band. He played Billy Joel, Tom Petty, and Grateful Dead. He was pretty good and made this even more festive for a December night. The food is comforting and we went with an amazing bread pudding that was just outstanding. Definitely safe room for it or go straight for drinks and dessert. The bartender is a friendly local. There's a cute black and white tuxedo cat who deserves attention. We will be back again and again. Cheers.

Interior, very eclectic decoration, great people watching!

Unfortunately things have gotten worse. Coffee is still good but the food (breakfast) went further downhill and the place is so dingy and groady now. It needs a deep clean really bad! Stickiness and dust and grime everywhere, gross! And don't get me started on the politics, yikes.

I stumbled upon this little cafe/bar on my first full day in Maui and I really enjoyed the whole experience. As soon as I came in, I was welcomed by the staff and took a spot at the bar. The ambience was very relaxing, smooth jazz playing the entire time. I ordered the late bird special and it was great. A simple breakfast at a good price considering the cost of food on the island. My server was absolutely amazing. Attentive, friendly, and made me feel very welcome as a solo diner/traveler. I like it here and definitely not in a huge hurry to take off. I could hang out at this place for awhile. Rated 4 stars just because they charged 2 bucks for a side of hot sauce. Otherwise it was great.

My love's 50th birthday!!! Thank YOU

Expect a wait but make a reservation in advance if you can. We started with the ahi tuna crispy rice, which was absolutely delicious. The crispy rice had the perfect crunch, while the fresh ahi, creamy sauce, and sesame seeds made every bite memorable. For my entrée, I had the coconut seafood chowder, served with rice. It was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without being overly heavy. The seafood was perfectly cooked, and the fresh herbs and vegetables added a wonderful balance. We also ordered a side of broccolini, which was cooked perfectly and made a great addition to the meal. The service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed with an island vibe. Between the delicious food, beachfront setting, and welcoming service, this is a spot we'd gladly return to. All of the reservation times during sunset were taken, so we ate a little earlier but still managed to see the sunset as we were leaving. The views from this restaurant are absolutely breathtaking. We even got to experience a light rain shower followed by a beautiful rainbow while we were there. Our server was Tim, who was beyond kind, attentive, and engaging. He displayed some of the best hospitality I have ever experienced at a restaurant. He made wonderful recommendations and truly made us feel so special celebrating our soon-to-be baby. To start, we ordered the tako (octopus); it was served in the manner in which escargot is - tons of butter and garlic, and paired well with wonderful fresh-baked bread. For our entrées, both my husband and I did a duo where we could pick two smaller portions of the entrée dishes. I did a duo with the fresh lobster and lamb special, while my husband did a duo with the fish pasta special and the curry scallops. All four entrées were absolutely divine, and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to sample a little bit of everything from the menu. To wrap things up, we had to try the infamous pineapple macadamia nut bread pudding with salted caramel, and they even gave us a complementary dessert for our babymoon, which was their take on a s'more. Both desserts were phenomenal, but I could have easily eaten two helpings of the pineapple macadamia nut bread pudding. If you find yourself in Maui and have the opportunity to make a reservation at Merriman's in Kapalua, I cannot recommend it enough as this was one of those meals that my husband and I will be talking about for a very long time.

Now to why there is a 1 star. Breakfast! DO NOT GO HERE FOR BREAKFAST!! We did the buffet because breakfast service was available. It was $47 a person for a mediocre buffet. The sausage links were very well done. By well done I mean cooked to jerky almost. The cook did a good job and was nice. He crisped my mushy potatoes for me which was nice. We decided we would go and make a waffle and share it with no way to butter it before syrup so we had to find a syrup bowl. Here is the teal bad part.... When we came back someone was sitting at our table. Not even joking. We were just standing in the middle holding our waffles when we finally saw the waiter who said oh I thought you left. We had not even been here for 10-15 minutes total and he just gave me coffee before I left! We had to wait for them to clean another table, then wait for silverware and napkins, then ask for drinks again. A poorly run Embassy Suites beats this buffet hands down. I did manage to snag a few crab legs before they ran out (such a bummer!), and I even left some behind for the next person thinking they'd get refilled... lesson learned, lol.
