The owner/server dude is really great. The place we suspect is pretty awesome based on the crowd outside when we drove by the first time. It's in the same strip as the grocery store we were just at. Eclectically decorated. Very unique chandellier made of empty bottles of wine. The colors that each bottles give out when the light is on is awesome. It looked like a million dollars. The food is great. We ordered a bunch of stuff but mine was the Fettucine Alfredo. Cream tasty sauce. Pretty good amount of pasta. There's a full bar that was very busy that night:) they have a live band there as well. Pretty laid back atmosphere as in any place in Hawaii but what matters is the total cool owner and the super tasty food. Funny staff and very gracious owner. My husband and I visited Java Jazz on our second trip to Maui. We went for breakfast. The food was good, atmosphere was neat, and the staff were great! The coffee was so good my husband order a bunch of it and had it shipped home. We were told it would take a few weeks because Christmas was coming up. I was shocked when it arrived to us a few days after we got home. I normally don't drink black coffee but all of their coffee I can because it is so delicious. Another successful meal thanks to Yelp. We were at the grocery store in the same parking lot and we thought we'd go for an early dinner before retiring to our hotel. We got out our handy dandy Iphones with the Yelp app. Voila! We found Java Jazz and Soup Nutz. We were very thrown off by such an odd name, but it had good comments and a good rating, so we tried it out. We weren't disappointed. We got there at 5pm, so it was a very early dinner. Our servers were very attentive. The restaurant is very small and is a combined restaurant and coffee bar. Our food was good. My BLT (minus the T) was good but the bacon could have been crisper. The Mahi Mahi special with scallops and crab was very good. It was described to us as 'blackened' but came grilled. The waitress said she would take it back but we were fine with it. The two people in our party who had it were very very pleased with it. The chicken sandwich was huge! Good and huge. The desserts were ok. The bread pudding was good but we weren't told it was chocolate bread pudding and were surprised when it arrived. The Tiramisu was ok, I've had better. The coffee was well above average! Overall a good solid dinner. I'd give it about 3.5 stars. Don't let the strip mall deter you from trying this place out. It's nice to get away from the places with crazy long waits and reservations that have to be made a week in advance. read more

Got a bagel and a coffee. Coffee was good, bagel was okay. The food menu is very basic; this place should definitely be categorized as American (Traditional) instead of American (New). The employees behind the counter seemed to be having some trouble taking the order, which gave me time to notice enough pro-Trump material displayed to make me briefly panic that I might be wearing something that labels me as not pro-Trump. read more

Kevin is the best bartender at Java Jazz! You can't go wrong if he's working. However, Cori is basically decent as a bartender, but she will expect you to live up the rules she has designed for every customer. If you fail to meet her expectations, the service will be horrible and she makes no bones about it. She's very vengeful and has often yelled at customer s in front of the entire place! Very humiliating. Try to go when Kevin is there and not Cori. Her nights are Thursday as a waitress (don't take a table) and Friday through Tuesday as bartender. Stay away on those nights!!! It can and does get ugly!!! Or grab a table Friday - Tuesday. You won't be sorry! read more

This is the kind of place you happen upon and don't think you'd like it but you end up enjoying it. Little strip mall across from the Mahana, the wife and I woke up on the first day of vacation and I needed some coffee. We strolled over to here and the owner/manager(?) met us outside while he was serving other customers. Really nice feller, he told us that they serve breakfast (which I was unaware of) and invited us to take a seat and gave us a couple of menus. He asked what kind of coffee I like and I told him I only drink regular coffee so he asked if he could surprise me. No problem. After bringing the coffee, I decided to go with an early bird special consisting of eggs, bacon, and HUGE pancake; all for $8.95. Great deal for anywhere in Hawaii. While we were waiting, the wife and I could not stop looking at all the quirky decor all over the walls and bar. There was also a little music stage where I think they have entertainment around dinner time. Not the kind of place I would patronize but considering how laid back I was on vacation, I rolled with it. The food came and the pancake was really good. Usually, for me, one pancake tastes just like any other pancake but this one stood out. Don't know why, it just did. The coffee was awesome. Couldn't drink it on a regular basis but while on vacation, I can. The owner asked us how everything was and we told him we really enjoyed it. He told us to come by the next morning and he would surprise me with a different coffee. We came back the next day. Now mind you, I'm not the kind of person that sits in a coffee house but I will definitely come back here next time I visit the island. read more

Came for dinner for four and the place was pretty busy at 615. Semi-live jazz started at around 715 (guitarist and sax/clarinet with recorded percussion backbeat). Service was good and food came out pretty quickly but can't say it was very good. Asian chicken salad had rather standard lettuce and chicken was way overcooked. My kahlua pork bbq sandwich was swimming in sauce and had lots of onions and the soft roll did not hold together very well. Taco salad was just ok and tasted like they overlooked a hamburger patty then broke it up to put in the salad. Tuscan chicken sandwich was good however. Inside is dark and funky with some "interesting" messages on the video screen. Definitely not the island vibe we like on Maui. read more

I've dined at Java Jazz a few times over the years and wanted to support local businesses on our most recent trip to Maui. Had a very disappointing meal as a late lunch. Arrived and grabbed a table, no one acknowledged us or spoke with us for 5 plus minutes, and then a guy comes over and proceeds to explain that we can't order off the menu (no hello or other cordial getting) and that there are like five or six things that we can order because there's a lack of kitchen help. Okay, we're hungry and tired so we think we're going to go ahead and find something on the menu that we can enjoy. We end up ordering two soups and a calamari appetizer. The waiter forgets to even ask us if we want a beverage, and then we get the food delivered and it's mediocre at best. $17 calamari appetizer has probably 17 pieces of frozen calamari deep fried served with sauce. Ridiculously expensive and waste of money. The soup was good but for chicken noodle soup there was hardly any chicken in it. To make things worse, the waiter starts mopping the floor with a very dirty looking mop and Pine-Sol smelling cleaner while there are still many patrons (including us) in the restaurant! I was repulsed by the fragrance and lack of discernment. The waiter never came to check on our food, and I had to finally ask for the check. An easy $47 spent and not worth a nickel. So far as ambiance, the place has been decorated with eclectic decor, obviously accumulated over the years. There's lots to look at everywhere. There every table is unique, and there's many pillows and cushions to create comfort. BUT the pillows and seat cushions are tired and old and frankly smell stale. The whole place smelled stale in fact. They should have used the downtime during COVID to freshen the place up. I doubt we'll be back. read more

Been hesitant to add a review, since I have been going to Java Jazz for years. But our most recent experience was very disappointing. We arrived at Java Jazz at 6:00 PM and ordered dinner. The table was sticky and had not been cleaned. We cleaned it ourselves, and then the waitress followed up with a cursory cleaning. About 45 minutes later we were informed the kitchen was short staffed and to be patient by our server. It was evident no one was being served food at other tables surrounding us. Finally, at 7:10 we were informed the kitchen was being shut down. We left hungry and dissatisfied with the service and lack of communication. read more

WOW, WOW, WOW...this place is a hidden gem. I'm not kidding. The food is fresh, delicious and fairly priced. The service?....outstanding!!! The gentleman that helped us get our morning going was ever so pleasant and gave us 5 star service before 6am in the morning! Look at the menu and it's impressive! Lots of options. We then had breakfast, and promised to return for lunch...it's now lunch time and again...IMPRESSED with the quality of food. I had the chicken tarragon soup and it was served with some sliced baguette. Oh so ono. A bowl of soup filled me. I have to take my chicken sandwich with me as I could not eat it. What a fantastic place! During our family reunion week in Maui, we stayed at a resort across the street from JavaJazz. One morning, our family (including the kids) popped in to give it a try for breakfast. We're so glad we did as not one person, adults and kids alike, was disappointed with our choice. There was something for everyone, including those in our family who were vegan. The environment was inviting, with an eclectic mix of memorabilia and artwork. The walls and tables were covered with scribblings from previous visitors worldwide, and our waiter brought markers for the kids to add their own. They had a great time contributing their messages and reading the others. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but the dishes to note were the Uncle Mike's Loco Moco, the Salmon Benedict, and the JavaJazz Huevos Rancheros. We highly recommend those, particularly the Loco Moco. The gravy in that dish had such a great flavor, and the generous portion of food you get will definitely fill you up or give you plenty have leftovers for a midnight snack. A couple of days later, my wife and I were out on our own and decided to stop in for lunch. So glad we returned as we enjoyed the BLT and Blackened Fish sandwiches. We sat at the bar where the bartender took good care of us and the owner, Farzad Azad, came by to make sure we were happy with both the food and the service. Very nice staff and very welcoming! Coffee was ok but the owner harassed my wife! He wasn't wearing a mask even though it is required here, and was swearing about political issues. He asked where she was from and after she told him he proceeded to call her a "M****r-f****r" and she quickly left the shop. Unbelievable!!! She was shaken up for a while. Don't support this owner! It used to be a good place to go to. The latest visit was not fun. They told us pickup order was going to take 10 mins. I show up at 10-15 mins mark and the waiter was incredulous thatI showed up . They made me wait 40 mins while the unmasked owner ranted about Dems, Muslims, his home country Iran, etc. I don't mind politely nodding away through such monologues but they messed up the order in the end! While visiting in Maui with me and my bf (first time visiting for both of us), we were recommended Java Jazz. When we first walked in the decor was awesome in a strange way, lots of interesting things everywhere you look, quite fun to look while you wait. We waited to be seated and we got a table within a few minutes, on a Sunday too! Our waiter was very nice and friendly. The food is so nice! It just feels like home, like very cozy food if that makes sense, I had the French Toast which was amazing, my bf had the late bird which was also very delicious. Bathrooms were nice and clean too. Overall I loooved the whole atmosphere, the decor was probably my fave thing, definitely would recommend and coming back next time!! read more

I was dining at the restaurant and heard the owner start yelling at the table by us suddenly about politics. The other people had only complimented him on his music playing ability when he started yelling. He ranted racists things about hanging all Persians, that Hawaiians are lucky that America colonized them and how he loves Trump. The table was just staring in disbelief, the rest of the staff were uncomfortable but did not interfere. We later learned that the staff was the family of the owner.
