In a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best, the cappuccino is a 3 according to the hubby. Be prepared for sensory overload when you walk into this kitchy place. There is lots to look at everywhere. The bar is on the far left side and the coffee bar on the right. Tables with menu on them and I'm guessing you go up somewhere to place your order. We haven't been to Java Jazz for 6 years, see last review. The place looks identical after 6 years. It's laid back casual with a group of regulars sitting at the bar. Music is good, they had a really excellent one man show with a guitar and large variety of songs. Walls are full of autographs and some booths are adorned with dollar bills. Quirky as ever but fun. Service was good and the blackened Ono sandwich was good. read more

Joined my Aunt and Uncle in Maui. We didn't realize how early everything closed in Kaanapali and that side of the island. This place was the only one that was open later according to Yelp and Open Table. We were so lucky! We got the last open table and there was live music that was good. We had so much fun! The best part is we were surprised the food we ordered was delicious! The best dish was the fresh Ahi on a bed of sautéed veggies and an amazing sauce. Their fries are nice and crispy. My uncle had the minestrone soup, he loved it. My aunt enjoyed the Coconut shrimp and the lemon pesto shrimp pasta. We shared everything. Unfortunately, they were out of our first choices. He was incredibly kind and WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND when my dad didn't remember if he left his wallet at home or had lost it at the restaurant. He was very welcoming throughout our visit. Food: The adult beverages were very reasonably priced for Maui and great (bottle of wine for $30 and cocktails under $15)! My family ordered a couple pastas and the fish and chips. The pastas were all 5/5, the fish and chips were 3/5, but the portions large. Ambiance: We came in knowing they had live music starting at 7, but we could not even believe what we heard. My jaw dropped throughout the performance out of awe. The overall restaurant vibe is very free spirited and unique. My daughter and I shared an entree and Nader brought our food out already separated on two plates. That's awesome. Salmon Benedict was good. I believe it was cooked salmon rather than smoked. Still good. French toast was okay. We didn't care for the raspberry on it. Too sweet. Steak and eggs was good. The steak was cooked to my sons liking. Prices were a bit higher than expected. The place was pretty packed, had to notice it was an older crowd (use included), maybe enjoying the retro decor along with the music from back in the day. We sat closer to the bar so the bartender was our waiter....he was on top it! Never had to ask for coffee or wait on service. The food was pretty good too. I had the Huevos Rancheros since I can't turn down eggs with chorizo. Lots of bell peppers, cheese, guac and side of spanish rice. Too much food but hubby helped. I always thought of Java Jazz as a breakfast place and can only recall coming here for breakfast, but we had dinner our last trip to Maui. I had the spaghetti lemon pesto with shrimp, my husband had spaghetti and meatballs and we split an order of garlic bread. The food was pretty good, very plentiful (enough for lunch the next day), but I'd probably skip the shrimp next time. The decor is fascinating, probably to distract you from how long it's taking to prepare your food. (Kidding not kidding. This place is truly one of a kind. It's a fun gathering spot off the beaten path across the highway from the Kaanapali shoreline. The setting is Barbie torture tiki kitch... lots of original art proudly displayed in a hap hazard way, and an incredibly friendly Alejandro took our order.
