(I'd love to mention he was the ONLY server working this morning. He had about 7 tables and still did not miss a beat!) My husband ordered a Hawaiian omlet . It had ham, onions, pineapple and cheese in an egg which he claims reminded him of a Thanksgiving dinner blend. ;) I opted for the vegetarian omlet with no cheese because I don't do well with greasy foods. Normally when I order food from anywhere, I always have to ask them to not cook it in grease. I just want to say that this omlet tasted like something made at home. No greasy eggs and my order was pure perfection! The seasoned potatoes that come on the side were beyond ridiculous amazing. Pricing? Well let's be honest... We are in Hawaii. 2 omlets & 2 coffees ran us $33.34 BUT Nader, whomever prepared the food & of course the environment made it all worth it. A little hesitant to step in this place that had some weird decor. However the food was great. We had dinner and breakfast on two different days while I'm vacation in Maui. The breakfast omelettes were delicious and the pancakes were huge, my kids could have shared one stack. The reason for not rating this place a 5 star because of the amount of time we had to wait for our food to be served. We accidentally came across this place after giving up on the 40 minute wait for Slappy Cakes in the same plaza. Inside, the place is very charming and eccentric - there are photos and interesting decorations everywhere, and a little stage for performances. There was no wait, which was great, and we sat down right when we got there. Immediately we were greeted by the server, Nader, who got us started with some coffee and mochas, which were delicious. Their menu had a lot of options, from sandwiches to eggs and pancakes, like a typical brunch place. We ordered pancakes, French toast, the veggie omelet, and huevos rancheros, and they were served to us within half an hour. Everything was great, especially the French toast, which was served with some kind of cream cheese topping that made it super interesting. Overall, the food, atmosphere, and service was great. The place seems really underrated, especially near a place as popular as Slappy Cakes. So, skip Slappy Cakes and enjoy the hidden gem that is Java Jazz. read more

This little spot was a great find. Service is fast and friendly. We came in the morning for a smoothie and iced coffee, which were delicious, and came back the same night for live music. The place itself is quirky and creatively decorated. A lot of pretty light and trinkets all over. For dinner we had the spaghetti lemon pasta and the lemon caper chicken. They were great! Lots of flavor. My husband had a Mai Tai and stated "That's a good Mai Tai", so evidently they make a good one! We were pleasantly surprised by Java Jazz and will be back! read more

No sign indicating whether to seat yourself or wait to be seated, so after standing there clueless for a few minutes, we ended up asking someone and he rudely said, "sit here" as he pointed to a random table. It looks like a cool little hidden place, but not very welcoming. There is an oddly placed sign where you can place and pick up a to go order but there is a table RIGHT there! Whatever, kinda weird but not a huge deal. I ordered breakfast there this morning and it took a second but she at least acknowledged us and said she would be right with us. Food was fine, good, not great, but totally fine. We went back over tonight because they had some things we were craving and the food is not bad. We followed the same procedure as in the morning, but this time was different. TWO servers avoided eye contact with us...and everyone who lined up behind us that were waiting to be seated. While waiting, I noticed a distasteful political sticker and after being ignored, completely...we left. We chose to spend our money at Pizza Paradiso, where for the second time in two weeks here, they were VERY pleasant and the food is really good! read more

This is the place we wish we had found when first arriving to Maui, instead of on our way out to the airport on our final day. Right across from where we were staying (Kaanapali Beach Club), this little "hole in the wall' restaurant and coffee bar is filled with atmosphere and plenty of customers, not to mention a varied menu and delicious food. The pictures from other reviewers will do more justice than my narrative, but the place is filled with various nick-knacks and Polaroid pictures of previous customers. We had breakfast on our way to the airport. We ordered the french toast and huevos rancheros, both were excellent. Plenty of menu items to pick from, all of which we thought were moderately priced for Maui. They also have a variety of coffees, also available for bulk purchase and shipping. Would love to come back here for the live music and happy hour-im sure its a very festive place, especially because it only seats 30-40. read more

Went to Java Jazz for breakfast and loved the vibe and music. Very eclectic place!! Can't eIt to come back and listen to the live music nightly from 7-10 pm. The restaurant was packed and service was slow (don't be in a rush!), but they were working their tails off!! I had. The Huevos Rancheros and my wife had the pancakes with apples and cinnamon. The Huevos came on crispy corn tortillas. They were a little hard to cut through, but the flavor combination with the eggs, chorizo and black beans made it worth it. I liked this style over the normal flour tortillas you get with this dish at other places. The pancakes were large large (short stacks had two) and very flavorful! The apples and cinnamon just came on top of the pancakes. The couple next to us both had Uncle Mike's Loco Moco, which is a 10 ounce hamburger patty over white rice and servers with eggs on top and covered in Mike's onion and mushroom gravy. I am sorry I cannot rate this place higher. Coffee and Jazz are two of my passions -- I am married to a jazz professional, so it's a fundamental part of our lives. When we found out there was a jazz venue not to far from our hotel, we were excited. The coffee was acceptable, and the music good. What we found tremendously off putting were the overt politics displayed throughout the restaurant and a PowerPoint slide show on a big screen television located on the piano, featuring comments and quotes best left to television talking heads. I certainly do not begrudge the owner his right to state anything he wants, and some of the things I don't disagree with. But the overt politicizing and at-times offensive slides -- "If you don't like my country, I'll help you pack!" "Ways to win an argument with a woman" (a blank page) -- left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Wouldn't matter if the politics are Right or Left, it drives away patrons. Jazz is an all-inclusive musical format. It's too bad the owner cannot see he's alienating half his potential customers. More if you consider foreign visitors who may be put off as well. Absolutely the worst attitude someone could ever have. A lady with a scar on her face acted like she was bothered when we walked in. She was on her cell phone when we walked in and a mom with two kids were trying to get shaved ice. She then yelled at some guy on the phone and told him she would call him in 5 because we walked in. I'm 6 months pregnant and crave shaved ice cream. When you look at the fun things they sell and all the "positive and happy" mantras you would think kind people would work there. She had one glove on and her phone in her other hand while making my ice cream. Hmmmm then when she handed it to me she was texting with her one glove on. When I asked how much I owed she told me $9.82 for one ice cream!!!!! I got two flavors! Seems nuts to me! She was then on the phone while trying to figure out my change, which she got wrong and I just ignored. She was yelling "What?!? What?!?" To the person on the phone and by that time two very old people came in. They didn't know what was going on. She left them waiting and walked to the back of the store. Poor old couple were confused as we were if she was yelling at us, them or the phone. As a business owner I would want to know if someone was this horrible to my guests as they are what bring in the business. Sad as we are here for another 10 days and I can only think about having shaved ice with this heat and my pregnancy. Just lost a good potential client. The guy who waited on us had as much personality as the atmosphere and we felt instantly welcomed! We've come back five times now, and have enjoyed the coffee, the service (from all staff), as well as the food immensely! We lucked out. We went for dinner and shared the coconut shrimp (highly recommended!!!) and the Mahi Mahi, scallop and shrimp special with a cream sauce and capers. Scallops are hard to cook, much less shrimp and fish, yet each piece was done perfectly! It's also hard to make a sauce that's flavorful but doesn't overpower the fish. Again, done perfectly! Adding capers to any dish is difficult because it's easy to over-salt. Again, it was beautifully executed. We happened to be there right before the music show started (at 7:00 p.m.), with a guy who could sing Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot. It was so much fun! It was clearly a local hangout, not just for tourists. We went for breakfast, and I have two words for you: FRENCH TOAST!!! Well, six, to be specific: Raspberry French Toast with cream cheese. They are heavenly! Made with real Hawaiian bread (thick and soft), creamy and sweet! They are a reason to go out to breakfast, whether you're a traveler or a native! I can't recommend them highly enough to you! Their omelettes are delicious, too, if you want something savory. But, for me, it's all about the French Toast! Java Jazz & Soup Nutz is also right across the street from The Aston Mahana and other resorts, which is incredibly convenient for anyone wanting delicious food and coffee far away from the usual crowded places. Food was phenonenal. Service was quick. Musician RUINED our night. We usually keep to ourselves but were good sports as he went around the room asking for classic songs, after offering 3 artists he declined to play, he berated us, attempting to get us to abandon our meal and dance. He started trying to embarrass my husband, promising I'd "make it worth his while if he'd dance". He then berated us once again once the song was done, making some back handed comment. I retorted, " it would be nice if he'd respect others' boundaries". We couldn't get out of there fast enough and we'll never be back. I was so embarrassed and disappointed, especially a place that put off a positive vibe, coming off as a safe environment. It put a real damper on one of our few nights out, away from our busy 60-90 hour work weeks back home. I'm very upset, to say the least. They were overpriced and at most mediocre! The coffee is good I'll give that 4 out of 5. The service is good. I had the french toast, I was not impressed. We also ordered the chorizo omelette again not impressed with it's less than a handful of potatoes and undercooked veggies. I am so excited I finally found this place to yelp! This was hands down the best place we ate while in Maui. For the life of me, I cannot remember our waitress' name but she was a total sweetheart. She was flirting with my 10 year old son and my 92 year old Granny. In fact, I have to find the pic of my grandma slapping her on the azz. LOL Now the food was great. It was pricey and there was a bit of a wait because they are really busy. The coffee is OMG delicious. My son had this huge fluffy pancake and I had a scramble meal with grilled Portuguese sausage. YUM. I'd go back to MAUI and here in a heartbeat. I'm starting to think it's impossible for me to do a short review. The second time we went back, we sat in a table and chairs made of wooden logs and I really loved to just look around at all the intricate details and decorations of this place.. LOVE IT! read more
