Was originally meeting up my friend at Beanberry, but ended up coming to Java Joe's because of crowds. I ordered a Taylor ham and egg with plain bagel, and a medium coffee. The girl taking my order was not very friendly. She could not hear what I asked for. I had to repeat twice. Then she spelled my name Alan when I spelled out my name for her. My bagel came out quickly. The inside was tasty, but the bagel was very hard. A plain bagel, mind you. Not acceptable if this is a bagel shop. Parking lot was a mess. There simply wasn't enough parking for the coffee shop and Java Joe's. At least there were nice tables around for people to eat and talk. Other than no choice, I will not come back again. read more

Great bagel joint, we moved back to NJ after living in PA and have been craving the jersey bagel experience for the last few years. This place doesn't miss! Yankees and Mets themed sandwiches, breakfast specials, and coffee. Lots of tables inside, and very roomy. The parking is a bit questionable but with a little patience and maybe a few times circling you'll get a spot. We plan to be back weekly for our morning breakfast dates! Horrendous customer service. I picked up three bagels, as Java Joes has an unusual practice of requiring customers to personally pick the bagels, and the owner attacked me because I didn't use wax paper. However, there was no wax paper anywhere near the bagels. I told the owner he had attitude and he refused to make the bagels and threw me out. That is the worst customer service ever. If you don't want people to touch the bagels, and the only ones I touched were going to be mine, either prevent them from doing so or have wax paper accessible. I would never go here already because they are subpar, but I would highly recommend nobody else go either. I was trying to go to the coffee shop in the same building because they're actually good. I circled their shitty parking lot 3 times to find a spot. I saw a girl getting into her car to leave, so I put my blinker on to take her spot once she left. This is what EVERYONE has to do and DOES DO in order to get a spot. I am there for 10 seconds waiting and the owner of Java Joe's comes out and starts waving me on. I roll my window down and point to the car that I'm waiting for to leave. And he says "I don't see anyone" and I say well she just got in. He then tells me there are 3 cars behind me, I say they can get around me. As if I didn't just have to do the same thing, going around several cars that were waiting for spots on my 3 rounds around the parking lot. He proceeds to yell at me that I'm going to cause a "head on" collision and states "but you wouldn't care about that." Making assumptions about me from a 20 second conversation. Stop harassing your customers and preventing people from going to Beanbury, which is really the only reason why anybody would be in that parking lot to begin with. Oh and fix your shitty parking and then there wouldn't be these issues. read more

Java Joe is the only place nearby that makes a cranberry bagel and it's the reason why I keep going back. I agree that the owner is a bit cold and that service just takes forever. Each time I've gone, I've had to wait 10 plus minutes just to place the order, and this was when there was only 2-3 people in the store. We ordered two Taylor ham, egg and cheese bagels and while the bagels were good, the rest of the sandwich was mediocre. 1 piece of cheese, 1 piece of ham, and 1 egg. No salt. No pepper, mostly bagel and the ham wasn't really cooked well. There was a young man working the counter who was completely covered in sweat, like shirt soaked and I understand that maybe he couldn't help it, it was a huge turn off. If you work in the food industry, and you know you sweat in that manner, bring extra clothes, deodorant, excuse yourself to the bathroom every now and then. We will not be returning. read more

I came a few times alone and the female owner was pleasant and polite. Sat and ate and worked a bit. The third time I went with my husband after a busy morning at my son's school. We both needed to catch up on work so we booted up and worked for 20 minutes before eating. Maybe 10% of the seats were occupied. A few minutes later the owner snipped at my husband and said not to use Beanbury's wifi. Then my husband went to order, paused and came back to ask me what I want, and the female owner snipped at him "What do you want?" He felt inclined to order and we decided to share his food. Then he sat down and plugged in his laptop to the wall outlet. The owner told him he can't do that. They should just put a sign up that they don't want people working there. To finish my reviews of the bagel places in the area, I stopped in at Java Joe's. First thing that disappointed me was that their website was outdated and there was no Friday breakfast special for $2.75, it was replaced by a $7 lunch special. There are still breakfast specials other weekdays, but they're now $3, which is pretty good. As other Yelpers have said, you choose your bagel and hand it to the person behind the counter to prepare. This is ok as long as everyone uses the papers to handle the bagels. For sanitary reasons, I'm not sure why the store does this. You also make your own coffee which I'm also not a big fan of. I went with an onion with vegetable cream cheese and a large coffee. No complaints. Bagel was good but not best in area (see Alfa). Coffee was fine. The seating area was nice. Service was friendly. Parking was easy. The place was clean. read more

Java Joe's bagels has the second best bagels in Morris County. What really does it for me is their inspiration to try new bagel flavors (cranberry, Swiss) and the seasoning on the bagels. We got a chicken salad on a Swiss bagel and after seeing the sesame seed bagel I had to get one with butter. Both delivered up to expectation.
