I LOVE this place now! Jaws Topokki was first on my radar when we tried it at an H-Mart all the way in OC. When I learned that there's a location in K-Town, I couldn't have been more ecstatic. We ordered for to-go, but service is very efficient with their work and the ambiance inside is casual, inviting, and for the particular time I came, a little festive. Our order consisted of the keto kimbap, chicken galbi kimbap, and signature bareum kimbap. Unlike the previous times, we also got the rose tteokbokki. The three types of sauces you can have with the kimbap are Sriracha mayo, wasabi dip, and gochujang, but I'm sure people have tried it plain or with soy sauce, potsticker sauce, etc. Everything we had was incredibly flavorful and satisfying! The addition of shrimp tempura in the keto kimbap was a genius idea (though I don't know how "keto" it would be depending on how strict the person is) because it elevated the crunchiness and vibrancy of the roll! Not to mention, I wouldn't think chicken would taste amazing in kimbap, but it does. Granted, we likely would skip the signature kimbap since the "ham" meat inside isn't really our style--I'd opt for a beef or pork-based one instead! read more

At last, it's my first time dining at Jaws Topokki in KTown. The ambiance is very spacious, vibrant and inviting with adequate seating. I am also fond of the cleanliness of the restaurant, which lures anyone to dine in at this precious spot. I immediately placed my order of Chicken Galbi rice bowl. It is decently priced below $15 and comes with a side of sautéed vegetables and miso soup. Service was pretty quick (approximately a 7 minute wait) and the cashier was cordial enough to bring my order to my table. My rating for the Chicken Galbi is 4/5. The chicken was grilled enough but was a bit dry. However, the fluffy calrose rice, galbi sauce and sautéed veggies saved the entire dish. For me, the side soup was 3.5/5 because it was a bit salty for my taste. On the bright side, I was able to adjust it by adding some hot water from their water dispenser. Overall, I still enjoyed my meal and nothing went to waste. On my next visit, I would love to try their beef bulgogi bowl, as well as their extensive kimbap selection. *disclaimer- I never wrote a review before but this is just UNACCEPTABLE. Jaws Tpk is not new to me because I've ordered from here several times now. I had no complaints from my previous visits but not today... There was a big piece of plastic in my ddukboki and some of the tuna kimbap had a weird grainy crunch to it when I chewed- dirt? sand? So, I almost never do this, but we enjoyed our meal here so much we came back the next day!! All I have to say is Jaws passed the repeatability test! We did an order of the rosé tteokbokki with cheese again, and they were able to make it vegetarian (just note tou have to order at the counter for modifications). I did another lunchbox with the spicy pork kimbap and pork cutlet as my meat, and added a side of the mixed veggie tempura for $2. On short- amazing. I liked the pork cutlet kimbap better because I liked the veggies in the roll from the day before a bit more, but both were delicious and expertly made with that beautiful presentation. Like this is the biggest and best kimbap I've had outside of Korea. I love the tempura here as well. They combine the veggies into this delicious slices of tempura versus frying them piece by piece which I love. The outlet as my meat main was delicious and juicy. I also love the fresh tossed salad, the dressing is yummy! Once again the staff was helpful, the place clean, and the food delicious. My goodness - this place saved me a trip to Korea. I had an intense craving for kimbap and tteokbokki after seeing so many Korean street food mukbangs/videos online and this place hit the spot. Apparently this is a popular Korean chain, which made the experience all the more exciting. I placed an order via Doordash and everything arrived nicely packaged. I got the teacher's bento with bulgogi and shrimp tempura kimbap (I think the bento is a Doordash exclusive item) and the 1/2 order of soup tteokbokki. For about $20 total, this was a feast! I felt like I was doing my own mukbang to be honest. I loved the variety in the bento and it was surprisingly filling too. Everything was very fresh and had a good amount of protein and banchan. I wished the bento came with white rice but I suppose that is what the kimbap is for. The shrimp tempura kimbap stayed crispy and was so good. The tteokbokki was my favorite part of the whole meal. JAWS TPK 5/5 Whenever I come to the Source, I always eat here despite all the other options. Jaws is located on the third floor food court and has plenty of seating inside and outside! Despite it being pretty popular, I've never had to wait more than 8 min for my food. I always get the cutlet kimbap and topokki and it never misses. Their tteokbokki is very spicy + the pork cutlet in the kimbap is crispy and the veggies inside are crunchy, 10/10. Big enough portion to feed 2 people. My friends and I wanted to try everrrrrything they had on tap so we eat like monsters. We tried their regular "Topokki", their Rose and their incredibly cool Jajang ddukbokki. I have never had it jja jang myun style and for me, that was the winner of the night. It was solid and tasty black bean sauce, while the others were just fine. The Rose wasn't very rose like we've had at other places, it was nearly the same as the regular ddukbokki and my friend wouldn't even believe it was different at all, lol. The dduk was nice and chewy though! My friend's actually preferred their Jaws Fried Chicken, which had a bit of spice and was nicely crisped. And at $6.49 it was truly a bargain. We also had their cream cheese kimbap which was good but not very well assembled. Some pieces had no cream cheese and others had huge chunks, feel apart upon picking it up. Overall, I'd try Jaws again to try some other dishes there. I would definitely get their Fried Chicken and JaJang Topokki but would skip the other items. read more

I had a satisfying experience at Jaws Toppoki with my friends last week. One of my friends is a huge fan of Tteok-bokki while full disclaimer: I will eat it, but rarely enjoy it since I prefer thinner and savory Shanghainese rice cakes usually. We got a combo to share between the 3 of us. I might go back for the rose flavored one because that sounds very interesting. The cheese was tasty, but it hardened very quickly. We made the mistake of waiting and trying the sides first before mixing. The cheese powder was so umami like cheese puffs! For me, the fried sides that come with the combo were the highlight - great crunchy texture and fillings that all went well with the sauce! I also enjoyed the beef gimbap and the sundae with some salt on it. The service was decent, nothing extraordinary. The wall menu and decor were really cute, but the stool chairs are not very comfy. A new Korean ddukbokki franchise has opened in Los Angeles, adding to the existing one in Orange County. It's convenient to have one closer to home. I had the chance to try it in Korea before and enjoyed it. During my visit, the restaurant was still in its soft opening phase but had the full menu available. I ordered a Double Set for takeout over the phone on Sunday, which included spicy rice cakes, fried goods, and Korean blood sausage (soondae). It cost a little over $20, which I found reasonable. It took around 15 to 20 minutes to get home, and the food was still hot. The fried goods remained warm and, most importantly, crispy. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the food. The rice cakes were perfectly chewy, and the sauce had a delightful balance of sweet and spicy, reminiscent of street food ddukbokki. The fried goodies were still crispy when dipped in the sauce, creating an explosion of flavors in my mouth. Normally, I enjoy my fried sesweed rolls and veggies as they are, but when served with ddukbokki, it's a must to dip them and show proper manners. I also had the opportunity to dine in, and it was equally satisfying. We ordered a Triple Set and it made us really full. The service is minimal, as you order at the counter and receive your food when it's called. Restaurant is pretty spacious and clean also. Utensils and other necessities are available at the counter for self-service. Parking is valet when it is present or street parking. I loved Jaws when I tried it in Korea so I wanted to see if it was just as good here. I didn't expect to find it in Koreatown since we stumbled upon this spot. The inside of the restaurant was spacious and clean. You order via counter service and the food comes out fairly quick. Although I really wanted to try their tteokbokki again, I didn't quite have the stomach for it, so we got some gimbap instead. The two gimbap we tried were the Tuna Gimbap and Bulgogj Gimbap. They make their gimbaps here huge and full of the other fillings versus the amount of rice. Both gimbap were good but I would probably get the bulgogi one again because I like how the flavor of the beef compliments the roll. The service was unfortunately nothing special and was pretty standard. The fried set was delicious and everything was crispy and well-fried. Our group thought the rose toppoki soup was just okay. We didn't like how soupy it was but understood that it was probably for dipping. The rice cakes were cooked perfectly and had the right amount of chewiness. I personally really liked the shikhye slushie because it's the sweet rice punch I remember from my childhood. The other flavors seemed like slurpees or other sweet slushes. I wouldn't order these if you're not okay with really sweet flavors. My husband saw YouTube videos of it and got convinced into taking our friend there- but the viral food doesn't hold up in person. I think we were just expecting a lot more. You order on an iPad, don't really interact with staff at all. I could eat Korean food for days. I was so excited to eat here because I haven't had topokki for years probably? I honestly don't even remember. I knew that I had to go all out though to satisfy my craving. I ordered the Jaws Cheese Combo which came with Cheese Topokki Soup, Jaws Twist Chicken Strips, Seaweed Roll, and Dumplings. First, the topokki. The sauce had a good balance of sweet and spicy with neither overwhelming the other and there was a generous portion of fish cake and rice cake inside along with this really chewy, clear gelatinous strip that I have no clue what it was except that it was my favorite surprise of this dish. I was happy that everything still had texture as in nothing was overcooked and soggy. It also had mozzarella cheese that cut the sweet and spicy sauce without taking over as the star of the show. The fried food was the perfect side for the topokki. I dipped everything into the sauce and it elevated the food so much since it was crunchy but flavorful after drenching it in the cream. I wasn't a big fan of the batter flavor of the chicken although I did like that it was really crispy. The dumplings weren't as crispy but they were filled with japchae so the inside had a fun texture. My absolute favorite, however, was the seaweed roll which retained its crispiness to perfection and was also filled with japchae. The Assorted Fish Cake Soup reminded me of a Korean version of oden. The broth was light and clean which was a refreshing break from the other heavy food that was on the spread. It's filled with a variety of fish cakes so every serving was a little bit different. The gimbap!! Wow, I loved both the Spicy Pork Wrap Gimbap and Beef Rib Gimbap. Both types of meat were so flavorful and each roll was packed full of veggies. The textures in each bite make it so fun to eat and I also dipped this in the topokki sauce to change it up. The Cheeseball that I got was almost like dessert. I didn't expect the batter to be so sweet so I was a little taken aback. The batter is very light with a good amount of mozzarella cheese that gave me a satisfying cheese pull. Lastly, the Sikhye Slushie. I looked up what this was and it's a Korean sweet rice drink that I recommend having for dessert. Unless you have a super sweet tooth, this might be too sweet to have with your meal. The service was pretty quick considering it was busy on Friday night. They give you a buzzer and you go up to get your food at the front counter. You also grab as many plates and utensils as you need while you're there. Jaws Topokki is a fast casual chain that I first encountered many years ago in Seoul. It seems to be ubiquitous in Korea--I happen to be in Seoul right now, and there's a Jaws in the mall by my hotel--but it's relatively new to the States. This is the only location in Los Angeles, in the same Koreatown strip mall as Kyochon. I have yet to go in person, but I've gotten delivery twice in the last few months, both times for dinner with my mom. The food is delicious, a variety of easy Korean street/lunchbox standards, and it delivers quite well. The signature Jaws topokki soup is great, spicy and satisfying, with plenty of soft rice cake and fish cake in a hot red soupy sauce. The half size is just right for splitting if you add something else on top. I like the Teacher Kim gimbap bento box, which comes with choice of gimbap and grilled protein, plus kimchi, fish cake, salad, and tempura. I've tried both the spicy fish cake and fried shrimp gimbap and both are good--light on rice with lots of filling--though I'd give the edge to the spicy fish cake. On the meat side, the chicken galbi hits the spot. If you want even more food, you can get one of the combo sets. The medium friend set comes with a topokki soup, soondae, and a bunch of deep-fried things. I don't eat that much soondae or twigim on my own, but they're both tasty here, and nice to share. Jaws has been a welcome addition to my rotation and I look forward to my next meal of gimbap and soupy topokki.
