YELP CAN'T FILTER ME SILENT! At first this location seemed great. The guys seemed honest, and I really felt comfortable. I brought my car here for an overheating issue and they said that they would fix it. I paid about $300 bucks for an oil change which they informed me I had a busted oil plug for (thank you), and for a new tank for my coolant. I picked the car up as they were closing where they told me AFTER I paid that my repair would NOT be covered under the service warranty. I drove off and my car was still over heating... I brought it back the next day and they charged me $84 bucks labor to look at it and said something was loose so they fixed it. 2 days later sure enough... My car was overheating again... I'm yet to complain to AAA because the AAA approved is the ONLY thing this repair shop has going for them. read more

In my opinion, the price was fair and the repair was timely. That said, this was the first time my VISA check was not accepted. There is no sign saying that the company does not accept checks, let alone a secured check. The attendant actually asked an office worker to drive me to my bank, cash the check, and return with the cash for payment. Really! This really happened! As I mentioned to the clerk: 1) A repair is a reciprocal agreement; I agree to pay for a service and goods in exchange for a safe auto repair; and 2) If they were in my shoes as a customer, how would they feel about having to go to the bank and bring back cash? My 72 Corvette needed rear brakes fixed. Towed the car to Jax's Auto repair, He had the car for 5 days, the day after I got out of the hospital, he was on the phone, laughing that the carburetor, was damaged and he had to put $17.00 of gas in it, for which he charged me $34.00. I told him, to call, my friend, who knew about Corvettes, at which time, he got mad. We go to get the car, and I said something about the mileage and he advised me that it had around 50 more miles on it and a few scratches. That car did NOT have scratches on it, like about $3000.00 worth of damage from one rear fender to the other side. Many other marks all over it. So he took it for a drive and drove it to the point of the marks on the top of the rear is called stress marks. I am so sorry, that he ever touched my car. I put in the garage and it has not moved. Great mechanic. My car wasn't in the best of conditions cause I didn't have the money to take care of it the way it needed. When things got better I took it here and it needed a lot of work. They took care of me after It over heated. Made me feel welcome. Explained everything thoroughly and tried to keep my costs as low as possible--cause my Camry does/did need a lot done, due to the lack of care for awhile. These guys are liars! Don't go to this place. I rarely go to mechanics to repair my automobiles since i have the knowledge to do it myself. I only went to this place because i needed something done that i couldn't do at my apartment. I called the place to get a quote on the job on one day and then called again the next and they gave me a second quote that was higher. The guy recognized my voice and remembered I called the previous day. He instantly went from his fake pleasant voice to annoyed and angry. I went to this place because i had no choice. Before I went there i went on their webpage and found a 10% coupon on their website that i printed and took there. After I took my car in they guy gave me a completely different estimate for the job that was even higher than the last quote. I asked him why did he do this and he said they do it so they don't lose customers. What!? So I decided to go ahead with it since they took my car and keys and had the car already on the stand. I was very angry. I showed him my 10% coupon and he said that if i wanted to use the coupon it would cost even more than the "deal" he was giving me. Then i asked about AAA discount since they are approved by them and then he said it is already applied. I never showed this guy my AAA membership card or anything. How did he do this? Between us, my wife & I have used Jax Auto Repair with great satisfaction for about 12 years. Whether doing routine service, such as a simple oil change/filter replacement regimen, or something more involved, like a power steering pump replacement (recently) or brakes, Jax has done reliably fine work and has been transparent, always, about what they're doing & charging. Jack & Calvin maintain meticulous lines of communication with their garage crew as to any nuances or special considerations in the work at hand. My Honda Accord, and my wife's Highlander (both 14 yr old vehicles) have been well cared for by Jax and it shows in that they continue to run excellently. If I could give jax auto negative stars I would!! I took my car there because I had to have it towed and AAA recommend them. My car blow a coolant hose. First of all they didn't start working on my car till an hour before closing and then they magically broke my radiator fan although they claim they didn't. When I asked then to fix it they told me that they couldn't because they were closing but when another girl walked in they jumped to fix her car (she was just a walk in By the way!)!!! They had told me they couldn't work on my car until late in the day because they were really busy but according to other people there to pick up there cars they squeezed them in and were super quick (although working on my lowly old Honda compared to the new BMW must not be nearly as exciting)! Secondly they told me that my car was undrivable! I called my shop and explained the situation and he told me I could drive it home as long as the heater was on, I took side streets, and I watcher the heat gage. Third of all they were a total rip off!!!!! They had to have three of there moronic dip shits working to replace a hose!!!!!! They way over charged me!! I moved to Yorba Linda about 3 1/2 years ago and was looking around for a good repair shop for an older Toyota Sienna minivan. Is today just happened to get lucky as I drove by the place and decided to pull in because my engine light was on. I was immediately greeted by Jack, the owner of the shop. Could not have been a nicer gentleman and that goes for the entire staff. He did some work on my car which included fixing an oil leak. When I went back to pick up the car, he actually had a video taken so he could walk me through the problem on my car. The camera showed that it was my car by pointing at my license plate and then walking underneath my car, then pointing out what the problem was and what they did to fix it. That was super impressive to me because there are lots of stories out there about people getting scammed and paying for work that was not performed. When I was in the main office, I couldn't help but look at the dozens and dozens and dozens of awards & certifications that filled just about all of the wall space. There were awards from the city of Brea, various automotive manufacturers awards and certifications, various community awards and certifications for every mechanic that we're definitely add an expert level status. Then I went to pay my bill and met a gentleman named Calvin. If you know this place then you know Calvin. Very cool guy and has worked there forever so, he is usually the first face that you see. He was very thorough when explaining what had been done as well as going over the pricing and everything else in layman's terms for me. I was amazed at how reasonable their pricing was and how absolutely honest these guys really were. A few months later I ended up purchasing a used Chevrolet trailblazer from Jack. It was an older vehicle and perfect for towing a trailer, which is why I needed it. Jack was unbelievably professional, honest and thorough when conducting an auto sale. Don't get me wrong, it's not a car dealership by any means but on occasion, he will get in a vehicle and end up owning it possibly because of a mechanic's lien, etc. This particular vehicle had been used as a loaner car for his customers to take when they had to leave their cars to get work done. Even though it had high miles, I knew that if he was selling it then it had to be in top shape and he would disclose any potential problems that may happen in the future. Still drive it daily and it's been about two years. I've had one minor issue that Jax immediately handled. I'm not a big fan of using this app or referring people because it always seems that something goes wrong when you refer someone to a friend but in this particular instance, I definitely felt the need to share my thoughts and experiences with Jack, Calvin and the rest of the crew at what I considered to be one of the best businesses in the area. read more

Jax auto was referred to me by a customer of mine that used to live in the area of brea , I have a college aged daughter whose car became disabled while she was in brea ca, I'm 90 miles away so I called them and they were nice enough to tell me to have her get car towed to thier shop , aaa was sent twice to check this car out first time guy gave her a jump start and told her car was fine . Second aaa driver said battery dead can't start needs towed , well after diagnosis jax was able to determine alternator was the issue , changed it out and also recommended and changed out two belts , car completed by next morning And runs great , lifesavers ,, I will recommend then to anyone that needs service read more

Well I'm not sure, that's why I'm here isn't it? So after the attitude and rolling of the eyes, someone yells out from the back that they don't do that.. Do what? Look at cars and diagnose them??? I ask if they can help me or not and I get a nasty reply of "we don't fix those sorts of problems". What sorts of problems? Maybe I can go somewhere else and fix "that sort of problem".., and I just stand there while they go about their business and pretend I'm not standing there. WOWWWW. The was the worst experience I have ever had with a mechanic. I took my car in on Monday for a replacement of the water pump. I was told my Calvin (manager?) that the care would be done on Wednesday, late afternoon. I was ok with that because I had borrowed a car. Tuesday evening I received a call that my car was done. I was surprised on how quickly they were able to do the job. I picked up my car on Wednesday morning and drove to work and home. The car sat for about 2 hours. When I got into it to run an errand, my coolant light went on. I had my brother look at it and he said the coolant reservoir was empty. He was surprised because it just got out of the shop. He filled it with water and as he was doing this water came spewing out from the bottom of my car. I had to tow the car back to Jax. This was such an inconvenience in so many ways. They later called saying that hoses weren't properly tighten and some other things were loose. They said they pressure checked it and test drove it. Why wasn't this done prior to them calling me the first time??? They made it seem like it was my fault for their substandard work. When I spoke to the owner Jack, he was rude and when asked what he was going to about fixing the problem he replied, "I gave you a $75.00 voucher. What more do you want?" No apologies for the inconvenience they caused. I didn't want anything free, just an apology. Beware when using Jax for your automotive needs. The people are rude and disregard customer service. I paid $1,863.00 for rudeness and substandard work. read more

Was going to do a 40 point check up and wanted to know my options for smogging my out of state car with a check engine light. The owner Jack was very direct and helpful, pointed out a few things I didn't even notice (flat tire?! How did I miss that...) and warned me that if the car was modded, it could cost a pretty penny to get everything back to compliance. He put the car in the lift to check the state of the sensors and catalytic converter and didn't charge me, just let me know what the basic options were. I can't honestly recommend this place to take your car to be serviced, even for minor repairs. I'm a big diy'er and the other day I ran into a problem where I stripped an engine harness clip off a wire. Rather than dealing with it myself during a workday, I decided it would be easiest to take it to a repair place to get the simple repair done. All it needed was a crimp on bullet connector to each wire and for the sensor to be installed, I just wouldn't have time to look at it until the weekend. I took my car into Jax and was greeted by Jesse who seemed helpful and honest. He took a look at the car with me and said it'd be no problem. They then quoted me a price and made me sign an estimate right there. First bad sign, as there was no breakdown to the cost and it seemed high ($84 to crimp a wire and screw in a bolt? I already provided a sensor that I had bought so no warranty on the repair but also no material costs). Either way, I was paying for convenience and speed while I was at work so it wasn't terrible. I got a call a few hours later where they said that to find the actual oem clip would be a week order time and 150 for the clip and the wire. I told them to just use a normal connection as replacing the harness wire would be a pricey repair. A few hours later I get a call that they completed the repair and the engine code that the new sensor was supposed to fix was still there even though they successfully installed the sensor. Here's the kicker though, they wanted $350 just in diagnostics (promised up front) to even find what the problem was. They thought the engine harness wire was bad and this cost would cover testing labor only. What. Not even parts. I said no and was greeted with a car that wasn't more repaired than when I had started. After paying the $84 for the install, they said at the sensor I bought was probably bad or the wire harness was probably bad. In no way did they ever question their work. I finally got around to looking at the situation myself and diagnosing what the problem was. And guess what, the engine harness wire was OK, and the sensor was OK. The problem? Their wiring job. The bullet fitting they used on the sensor was poorly done and a simple resistance test with a multimeter confirmed this. I reinstalled the fitting on the sensor myself and reinstalled the sensor. The check engine light has not come back on after reset since. Additionally, I found a few of the air intake hose clamps loose when I went to do the repair (you have to remove the intake to get the the wire). This is unacceptable workmanship. It is embarrassing that this shop can't even check their own work. If I had paid$350 for this instead of doing it myself, I doubt they would have admitted the pr9blem or even checked the sensor. Poor workmanship, high prices, and cocky mechanics make this shop somewhere I would never recommend or go back to again. For all of you who don't know your way around cars, don't trust these guys and take your business elsewhere. read more

This place sucks! Guy tries to rip people off. Brought my car here because the reviews were good on yelp. And after coming here I don't understand why the ratings are so good. I was having car trouble and talked to one of the mechanics. He quoted me $180 for diagnostics ONLY!!! The dealer, which is known for ripping people off, is cheaper for a diagnostics check! After hearing this I left because I knew what I would have been getting myself into. I'm starting to think that maybe these guys are making up their own rating on yelp just lime they make up their own prices as they go. There are better and far cheaper mechanics in Brea. read more

I only recently started coming to Jax Auto after my cousin recommended me to this shop. I don't live in the area, but I don't mind making the drive to Brea at all for them. They have exemplary service, friendly staff, and they're all really honest. You don't have to read the rest of this review, but I'm going to share why I think they're a great auto shop: A while back on the way to Las Vegas, my transmission blew out. I had to tow my car back using a U Haul. My cousins recommended Jax Auto because she always goes to them and she loved their service. I gave them a call and told them I probably wouldn't be back until a bit after their closing time because of their traffic. They were really nice and patient about everything with me. Through the whole repair of my car they were updating me with every step and making sure that I was okay with the prices and maintenance they were doing. As you can imagine, replacing a transmission resulted in a nice sized price tag which I didn't mind paying at all. A month after my car had been repaired, Jack called me and told me that he heard about a recall that the company that makes my car was doing and recommended that I reach out to them. I'm so glad he told me because I was reimbursed for my costs!! Ever since then, I've brought my car in for oil changes and other maintenance that my car needs. I have no complaints and would 10/10 definitely recommend Jax Auto! read more
