We attended a special event here and were impressed with the drinks and appetizers that were offered, part of a Yelp event leading up to a Grand Opening date. We immediately decided to come back for the Grand Opening weekend. The restaurant is large and airy, but not decorated with traditional Indian decor. There is a large bar, front and center in the dining room as you enter, with a few booths and many tables. They take pride in saying that the food is made to order from scratch - so it may take a little longer than other places. We definitely noticed more than a typical wait time on our visit. But the food was excellent. Chicken Hariyali had large chunks of white meat chicken, nicely seasoned. Smaller pieces of chicken might have made the dish more tender, but it was ok. Lamb and Chicken Biryani was a standout, ordered medium spicy. The heat level was perfect and the meats were very tender. We had lemon rice, onion naan, and channa saag for sides. All very well executed. Portions of both main dishes were very generous, and we took enough leftovers home to make a couple more dinners. Dessert was a very good Tiramisu - an unusual find in an Indian restaurant. There were a couple of hiccups that relate to the restaurant being new - our wait person didn't understand Indian food at all and had some difficulty getting the order correct. Instead of wait staff delivering food, kitchen staff brought orders out and then had difficulty figuring out which table to deliver to. Minor things, but overall a good culinary experience. The food is worth the trip and we expect they will get the service process worked out as time goes on. read more

My wife and I tried the new Jax Spice restaurant in St. johns, FL on June 3, 2023. We both agreed this was the best Indian food we've ever eaten in the Jacksonville area. We started with Chicken 65 for appetizer then enjoyed entrees Butter Chicken and Chicken and Shrimp Curry with an order of nan with green chili. Only open 4 days but everything was fresh high quality and absolutely the best. The owner and staff were amazing and very accommodating. Definitely will go back!! Great feel and ambiance. The food was outstanding. Their level of hot were great and the food was delicious and flavorful. The service was responsive and attentive most of the time. My only complaint is that their lunch menu is the same as the dinner menu, which makes for a very expensive lunch. Therefore, it relegates them to a dinner only restaurant, in my opinion. The food was good, lots of options. But the atmosphere was subpar for the price you pay. I feel like they are going for an upscale vibe with the prices, but then allow children to run around the tables, with no shoes on, while people are trying to enjoy a nice evening. My wife and I ate there for the first time tonight. The food was absolutely terrific. She got the butter chicken and I got another chicken curry. Our third time to dine here was just as good and satisfying as our first visit. Portions are large so we always take some home. This time Julie, our server asked if we would like some extra rice to take home with our leftover chicken tikka masala. I told her that would be great, so she immediately brought it out at no extra charge. We like the digital menu that shows photos of the dishes. Being fairly inexperienced with Indian cuisine and because of the photos, we tried some new dishes and we have ordered a "new to us" appetizer, veg pakora over and over. I do not recommend the St. Johns location off 210 exit ( I-95) yet as they are poorly staffed and the food is overpriced and far from being authentic Indian. We went there last night for a special occasion and it looks like the staff is not able to cater to the orders and we waited patiently for two hours and eventually the wait staff apologized as they completely botched the order. After about an hour or wait, the waitress brought appetizer that was cold and I think left over from a different order !! This seems to be a pattern we observed that other patrons are facing the same situation We had to politely leave and find another place to eat not to mention it completely ruined a special occasion in our family. I am not quite sure they even have an Indian Chef cooking the dishes. :-) I think it will take them sometime to iron our all the food, logistics as they are a relatively new location. The one in the Jax beach seems to be running well. read more

Julia was our server and she is so friendly and warm. We tried some different dishes, family style: garlic naan, cucumber salad, butter chicken (with basmati rice), chicken mo (Nepalese steamed dumplings - think pot stickers but Nepalese) and we got a free dessert called Gulab Jamun which we got a slight churro vibe but like 3 little fluffy cinnamon donut holes in a light honey syrup. Everything was MOUTH WATERING DELICIOUS! They have a full bar with some interesting Indian beers too. We have been hankering for some really authentic Indian food and this place has it! The butter chicken is OMG delicious! So glad St Johns finally has a fantastic Indian (and Nepalese) restaurant! Try it! Don't miss out on this incredible experience! We are so excited to have a really good Indian restaurant closer to home. We have ordered food from the Jax Spice, Jacksonville Beach location to take to our home in the Palencia area several times. We ate at this new location a couple days ago. They've only been open a couple of months. They have a beautiful restaurant and they are preparing to open an outdoors seating area, but it was not ready yet. Just as well because it is too freaking hot right now. I normally order saag paneer, but decided I wanted something different this time. That was an excellent decision, because I ordered Butter Chicken. Hubby and his friend both ordered goat curry. I will start with the Butter Chicken because it was fantabulous! The chicken was cooked perfectly, still tender, not over cooked or tough. The sauce was so very flavorful, it was beautiful! Hubby and his friend ordered their goat curry medium and asked for spices on the side, but they didn't quite get the kind of spice they wanted. They have learned a lesson and will go back to ordering their curry. Indian hot. The only downside was the service could have been better. I will chalk it up to they still have some growing pains. We are looking forward to many more visits to this restaurant and highly recommend it. read more

My husband and I tried JaxSpice and we were not disappointed. I got the butter chicken and he had the goat vindaloo. The butter chicken was delicious. It's served with jasmine rice. My husband enjoyed the goat as well. They ask your spice preference which I really liked. We also had the cheese naan which was really good as well. For appetizers, we had veggie pakora, chicken twist rolls and cheese naan. We were shocked by how big the appetizers were. Again, everything was so delicious. For dinner, our group had chicken lettuce wraps, chicken 65, Kachumber salad with feta, chicken biryani, butter chicken, and saag curry with lamb. The warm, beautiful Indian spices made each dish so delicious and top notch. All the proteins were plentiful and tender in each of our meals. Great food, beautiful space, parking on roof top kindly tricky it's next to the side. presentation and flavor good, we order spicy level 3/6 and it was still spicy, There spicy level hotter than a notmal-- if you don't like spicy ask for level 1 or 2. The food was good but the service was awful. We were there an hour before receiving our appetizer. A lot of people in the restaurant were ignored as they waited to be seated or for their take out orders. The staff would walk right by customers waiting without acknowledging them. The table next to us was seated and they never received water or any kind of service. They had to flag someone down just to get water and to order. Excellent visit to the St John's location. We sat at the bar and had outstanding service. The cauliflower appetizer (GOBHI MANCHURIAN) exceeded expectations for flavor and portions. We had two types of naan and a fabulous chicken curry (CHETTINAD). I can't wait to go back and try the Chicken 65 appetizer as well as more of the entrees.
