Wonderful, local spot that's been here for generations!! Their signature hollandaise sauce is amazing

When it comes to Jay Berry's I have no complaints. They are consistent, they are kind, and the food tastes great. I can only speak to the breakfast food. Breakfast at Jay Berry's is like home. All of the country breakfast favorites that you would have at home are prepared here. The diner is filled with really funny slogans on the walls. That and what appears to be cute community photos of local sports teams and kids of maybe staff. It is a homely community business. I tend to really like places like this. Especially when homely doesn't interfere with customer service and consistency. Which again, it does not. Food was awesome. The French toast plate is a great deal for folks that want a little bit of everything. Amazing spot to scratch the super filling breakfast itch. Only knock is that it's so popular, it takes a little to get seated and served and there's not a whole lot of waiting space to be prepped to sit in the car or stand outside if you're here during a rush. The food was okay, but they were unable to accommodate dietary restrictions. We asked for non-dairy creamer, which they did not have. Also, we were overcharged for a side that was listed on the menu as $2.99; on our bill, it was $3.25. Overall, we won't be back. Doesn't Like much from the outside. But the food is sure delicious and large portions. Staff is friendly places clean restrooms are clean. There's a restaurant and a separate bar. Bar is a little dark you can tell it's been around for years. I highly recommend this place for breakfast but be prepared if you come fairly late to wait it is packed on the weekends. They also have mimosa and bloody Mary's for $3. They have 1st bake cinnamon rolls baked pies and their dinner portions are large enough for 2 to share. Good options for low carb. read more

Decided to try this place after seeing good reviews on Facebook. So glad we did! We were warmly greeted by the hostess without any discriminating questions. Got coffee and water right away. The food only took about 10-15 mins to come out and it was delicious. Our coffee mugs were refilled before they could get half empty. All the staff was very nice and friendly. We finally made our way to this local treasure after far too many years of having it on our "must try" list. I'm happy to report that it did not disappoint. The environment makes you feel like you're in a friend's cozy home. The service is engaging and makes you feel instantly comfortable. The food is definitely the star of the show, as it should be. We had an omelet and French toast, and both were really good. The icing on the awesome experience cake was that prices were really reasonable. We would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to fulfill those brunch cravings :) Pro Tip: Apparently you should get there early if you want to score one of their famous cinnamon rolls. I think anyone who lives in the area associates Jay Berry's with breakfast, but we decided to get some dinner here and we were not disappointed! I got the baked lasagna which was actually a pretty fair portion for the price and left me full. I added meatballs (because how can you not) and those were perfectly cooked as well! Now if I'm craving lasagna Jay Berry's is the first place that pops into mind. We also got the baked artichoke and onion dip and I was a bit surprised with the presentation. The portion size was actually pretty disappointing which is why I took off 1 star. The dip was thinly spread across the bottom of the container and there was legit maybe enough to put on 5 bites? It tasted good though, just not worth the price. The other dishes we got were the prime rib and lemon pepper salmon. My family was also happy with those dishes, no complaints, but not as outstanding as the lasagna! I've heard great things about their pizza so that is what we will try next! read more

I wish I could say it was 5 stars, but from the first impression at the cluttered and sloppily maintained entrance to the lack of gluten free and vegan options, we were disappointed. My husband ran across the street to a small coffee hut to score some almond milk for my tea, but considering that we drove 5miles out of our way to get here, it was disappointing that this simple thing was not available. Got our food... I got the "Coalfield Special" and my husband got the Stuffed Hash Browns". Wow this is a LOT of food and it's delicious. I might have to modify my review number. This normally comes bakes with two kinds of cheese on top... And sour cream. The special was at least 4 portions. The Stuffed potatoes was about 1.5 portions. They tasted great together and I would highly recommend if you typically enjoy that kind of food combination! I can usually eat a lot but I could barely finish these two plates. The portions were very generous and the food quality exceeded my expectations! I still give it 5 stars but parking can be troublesome since this is a popular food spot with limited parking. Luckily, my group and I only waited a few minutes since we went at an odd hour (the wait can be 20+ minutes during peak hours). We were heading to the Renton area for some Dutch Bros but decided to find a nice spot to pick up breakfast before we jumped on I-90 to make our trip home to Spokane. My daughter saw Jay Berry's pop up on Maps and it pics were inviting. Although busy on a Sunday the wait time was minimal. As my kids would say...the food was "bussin" (this is a good thing lol). I had corned beef hash with over easy eggs, hash browns and sourdough toast. Pretty standard bit cooked well. The eggs were on point and the hash had a nice oniony flavor. My son had the French Toast meal and it was plentiful! Looked delish and his sausage link was legit. The bacon slices were also nice and big. He almost polished it off. My daughter had a "light" versions of a pancake meal (smaller portion). She said her pancake was nice and fluffy and so good. My hubby had the Meat Omelet that hit the spot! Didn't get to taste it but his plate was completely clean when he finished so I'm guessing it was a thumbs up. My only complaint is that I don't live around the west side of the state to go back and try other items. There were some things in the menu that looked unique and I'm kicking myself for going to my usual standby hash. Fed my family of four for about $75 including drinks. read more

We have been regular customers of Jay Berry's almost since day one. Live in the neighborhood and frequent most Sunday mornings. We absolutely love Jay Berry's, hence the 5 stars. But, the last few months, the hostess gal thats there is just not super friendly and always just looks kind of miserable. read more

Had breakfast at Jay Berry's cafe with the wife today. Had a good experience. She had the stuffed hash browns plate and I had the French toast plate that came with eggs and bacon. The portions where just right and yummy. The mimosas were $3 and it was first come first serve seat yourself in the bar area. We didn't need to wait. I will come to this place again when I'm in the area, I would recommend. The word on the street is the pizza and French dip sandwiches are good. read more

Price is right! Love their breakfast but can be quite busy on the weekends with the Small parking lot; however there is lots of street parking. Beware of the coffee stand across the street. My son and I were waiting for a table so we walked across the street to get hot chocolates only to find it's a bikini barista stand, no kids suggested. Very disappointed, Customer Service is easy when everything goes to plan. The saying you really find out a lot of an organization when things go bad. I was in here this afternoon with my wife. We were greeted and shown a table. I understand that things happen like employees calling out or getting bombed in the kitchen. I get that It annoyed me that other customers where given food, even though, they came in after we did. It's that fact we were barely acknowledged. Other customers were given status on what was happening and we were ignored. I would have been more tolerant if we had been given updates or offered water or something else. For the better part of an hour we waited. Final straw was large group that came in after ourselves and two other groups serviced first was it. No explanation so we got up and left. Nice lady tried to save the situation but it was too little too late. Was really looking forward to the Prime Rib dip recommended by a friend. Needless to say I doubt I will be back here soon. Husband and I went for breakfast one early Sunday afternoon and breakfast was good, Hot Tots with house special cheese sauce was delicious. Service was terrible, server was hot, overwhelmed and very cranky. She got super irritated when I wanted to play pull tabs. Second time we went, my husband tried chicken fried steak and it was over cooked and the whole plate was cold. Didn't feel comfortable sending it back for fear for the same cranky treatment. It's probably the worst breakfast I've ever had. The hashbrowns are mushy undercooked garbage. I can't believe people wait to eat here. There must not be anything else in the area. Great little café. I wanted to try something new for breakfast and this place had good reviews. I was seated pretty quickly, asked for a drink and ordered. My food was on my table in about 15 mins. I ordered the sausage sandwich. It comes with a biscuit cut in half with scrambled eggs and a sausage party in-between, the smothered in gravy. Comes with a side of hash browns. We went for breakfast and pretty liked it. We tried breakfast burrito, meat lover omelette and sausage sandwich. We finished with their famous cinnamon roll which was nice as well. The lady who waited for us was very patient and very friendly with my kids. They took some time to bring the dishes but that's fine as the wait was worth. Twice as nice Just like your favorite pair of jeans tee shirt or comfortable old shoes we tend to fall back on our comfy cozy stuff. Such is the same as Jay Berry's Cafe. We have been going in there for years and often take our out of town freinds and relatives with us. Why? That's easy to answer. It's their menu of delicious comfort food with generous servings at reasonable prices and their wonderfully warm people. We had occasion to visit our freinds twice last week once for a burger and the other when we just didn't feel like cooking. We discovered that beside their always fabulous made in house soup du jour they also offered French onion soup. This is one of our favorites that we have enjoyed In many cafes in Paris as well making our own. Their's was equally savory good size served piping hot (a must) as the French and my own...cudos. We ordered the Wester Burger with 1/3 lb patty bacon pepper jack cheese topped with a couple of huge onion rings drizzled with barbecue sauce. It was plenty for two especially served with a generous pile of fries accompanied by a pint of Blue Moon lager for $3 (we ordered a second). We paid our bill $24 and left sated and happy. Our next visit was on Saturday night. We were seated immediately and quickly Nicole our very pleasant server appeared. She started us off with a Bloody Mary and a pint of Blue Moon Pilsner. Their Bloody is a masterpiece...spicy and topped with a pickled asparagus spear olive and smoked bacon generous amount of vodka all at $3 (Sat night and Sun special). Our craft beer was a reasonable $4. Fiending for their French onion soup again we ordered it as a starter. That's when it got even better. Apparently we had stumbled into Prime Rib special night (Sat after 5) and if we chose the special our soup was $1.75 instead of $3.99. Their PR dinner featured a generous tender delicious 14oz piece of prime rib served to order with au jus and horse radish (the real stuff careful) a baked potato with the works and fresh al dente broccoli all for $21.99. We split both which was plenty and Nicole talked us into their home made piece of apple pie and of course al la mode. It quickly arrives and the piece of pie is very generous warm and topped with a good vanilla. I enjoyed my very tasty pie as I looked around the room which is as comfortable as your own dining room. The lighting is soft with tasteful art work and signs adorning the walls. The tables were filled with who appeared to be happy families and regulars. Outside you could see a summer deck with tables and a buddy bar with stools...next time. NIcole glady boxed prime rib scraps (for our German Shepard) and half of my pie (I had it for breakfast). As we were leaving we noticed Jay's lively packed bar with more happy folks. I personally would highly recommend Jay Berry's kind of a old fashioned diner and a cozy cafe serving great comfort food at fair prices and accompanied always by a freindly personable Jay's team member. Good Food, kitchen was fast! Wait staff Service was a little slow & inattentive. Had to move from restaurant side to the bar side to find a two-top table that was balanced enough to not spill our drinks if we leaned on it. Seeing how many to-go, DoorDash, & Uber eats orders that were flying out the door..... I would say the Kitchen Staff Kicks-ass! Back of house Rocks! Front of house needs better direction to keep up! I feel like this needs to be brought to the community's attention. We recently had a bad experience at the local Jay Berrys Cafe. The owner got upset our newborn was crying. She was crying on and off for maybe 4 minutes tops while I was finishing my burger. We put her down to eat so she was not crying the whole time and by any means it was not loud. I was even holding her while I was eating but the burger was falling apart. After I put her down she did start crying after about 2 minutes. She didn't cry at any point before that. She got up and asked what we were going to do about her crying to which my husband said " we will grab her we just want a bite ". she got upset said "well I'll ask the other table if they would like to move". Mind you the other table never mentioned a word. After she's asked them if they wanted to move ( to which they said no) She stormed off to her corner. They turned to me ( I was grabbing the baby at this point) and said " she's not bothering us at all. We both have children and grandchildren, it's ok". The owner then continued to attack us and told us to take her outside. She wasn't crying anymore at this point, to which my husband said " if you don't like it, you can leave". It was then she informed us that she was the owner. We packed up, my husband payed and we left still hungry because we were pretty much kicked out. A party of three women in the same seating area approached us in the parking lot informing us it was disturbing to see the actions of the owner and they were not bothered at all by the crying. They even apologized that it happened to us. I would just move on and write it off as the owner may have been having a bad day but I ask you to view the one star reviews. While I clearly cannot speak for those instances, it seems the establishment has had issues serving pregnant women, families and people disabilities. If I had known this was happening I would have never supported this business. read more
