I visited on a Saturday, and the wait time was pretty reasonable--about 15 minutes, which was great. We ordered the veggie omelette with pancakes and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were really good, better than anything you'd get at Denny's or IHOP. However, the omelette was similar to what you'd find at Denny's. I wouldn't recommend the pancakes--they were tough and hard to finish. The service was okay, but I did notice some reviews mentioning that the staff can be a bit rude, and I'd have to agree with that. read more

Three of us waited about 15 minutes to be seated, and the restaurant was definitely busy. I'm not sure if we were forgotten or if service is typically slow, but it was almost 30 min before we placed our order for food. We waited for a long time before we got our food and it was pretty standard diner food, nothing special. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs, and the portion was decent sized but it wasn't anything wow worthy. It took us awhile to flag someone down to get a box and the bill so we could leave, so don't come here if you're in a rush (or have small impatient children!). read more

Jay Berry's is a nice little spot for breakfast. I came Sunday at 9am and the parking lot only had 2 spots left. There were a couple parties ahead of us and I was quoted 15 minutes for 2 people but it actually was only 5 minutes. I got the sausage sandwich and it was delicious - a biscuit split in half topped with 2 sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and gravy. Everything was pretty good and the hashbrowns were crispy. Only thing was that for us the food took about 30-40 minutes to come out and parties who arrived after us already had their food. Will be back if I'm in the area craving breakfast food. read more

Had a great experience at this little neighborhood hangout. get there early because they fill up fast! As you enter, you are greeted by a giant cinnamon roll on the hostess station. My littlest got the strawberry shortcake, but it didn't have a lot of strawberries on it so he was disappointed. We got chicken fried steak, avocados with poached eggs, and a Denver omelette. This was OK. I was very excited to try this place. However, I found that they did not have enough staff to meet the demand. It was so noisy inside that we didn't even know the waitress was trying to take our order because she was standing 2-3 feet behind our table talking to us. We've been waiting a while. Maybe it wasn't the first time she came and whispered at us. Lol. We were seated next to a pole and so didn't come around to the other side of the table where we could see her. After about 20 minutes I went to check the status as this was a long wait to be told it was done, I asked why they didn't bring it to me and the waitress said she never told me to wait at the bench. I wish I had visited Jay Berry's Cafe when Jon Ryan used to hang here. This cafe and restaurant is a place that I wouldn't have ever known about had I not driven the backroads to Issaquah, as this place is definitely a little secluded and a place where locals dine. I was meeting a friend for lunch and since she lives in Maple Valley, this was a great midpoint for us. Jay Berry's Cafe is a cute, local restaurant, which has some charm to it. Plus, they serve breakfast all day because sometimes you want a damn pancake in the middle of the day. We had lunch here on a weekday and the place was busy! Even on a Friday in the middle of the day, you can expect to find a lot of people here. Who knew? But, the space was large, so we were able to be seated immediately. I ordered the biscuits and gravy plate, which came with two eggs. I love biscuits and gravy, so was really looking forward to fluffy biscuits and hearty gravy slathered all over the plate. But, the biscuits were so-so. Not fluffy, but not rock hard. The biscuits just seemed a little overbaked to my liking. But not bad. Gravy and scrambled eggs were fine. I added some hot sauce for some flava flav. Nothing special about this plate, but not horrible. It was A-OK. Breakfast seems to be king here, but I would be open to trying a lunch entree, in hopes of having better luck. After many years in and out of the issaquah area, finally got to try Jay Berry's. Solid comfort food that I can see why it has a regular following. The line does get long so get there early to get a buzzer. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated as a party of 3. If you're looking for that breakfast that will taste savory and fill you up this is the place. The portions are humongous. They have a special house made fromaggi sauce that is in a lot our their dishes. I had to try it and got the Kathie's special. It was everything I expected in terms of texture and creaminess. The potatoes had the crispy ness at the top and the different cheeses melted just right to go with the poached egg. The only thing I woke have liked more is to have either a ham or sausage in this dish to add some more depth to it. We always enjoy coming here. We typically sit in the lounge as it's more comfortable and they have sports on the TVs, which my wife likes. There's been an older waitress (she's small, light brown hair) that's been our favorite for years. Last 2 visits, she wasn't there. Not sure if she's on vacation or if she retired/left, but now there's an older gentleman our last 2 visits. He was ok the 1st time; seems amiable enough, but tonight is the first time I didn't tip 20% or better. Left 15%. He took our orders, brought our drinks, and that's the last time he came to our table. Seemed more interested in the Mariners game. We had to ask a young waitress (who, btw, was vacuuming. While people were still eating. I get they close at 9, but this was about 8:20. I come from a restaurant family & worked in many restaurants. No one came to check after 5 minutes or so to see if everything was OK. We needed water and ketchup and more napkins. We ordered the French Toast Breakfast which includes 3 pieces of thick slides French toast served with 2 eggs any style, 2 slices of bacon and a sausage link and also The Southwestern Omelet which is a flurry omelet loaded with fresh avocado, topped with pepper jack cheese and fresh diced tomatoes served with salsa and hash browns and toast (or other bread of your choice). It was a very filling meal. We enjoyed the amount of filling that the omelet had, although it could have been fluffier like the description had suggested. The hash browns were pretty standard but we would have liked it to be cooked a little longer so that it was crispier. Here for lunch after spending time at the nearby animal sanctuary. Our first time here although my kids have been here several times for breakfast. They love the breakfast here. Pretty big place and a decent parking lot but I can see it getting full pretty fast, especially on weekends. We opted for the lunch menu and ordered the 1/2 sandwich and choice of soup or salad ($9.99). You can get the French onion soup (which I did) or the Caesar salad (daughter's choice) for a little more ($11.95) . We both got the roast beef and Swiss on sour dough bread. The combo was just right and the roast beef was good. Only thing the bread was regular sliced kind which didn't hold up well with the roast beef. It got a bit soggy and fell apart. The onion soup was pretty good- lots of onion with the dark toast and Swiss cheese on top. Good flavor. The Caesar salad was okay. We also got a side of the garlic French fries ($8.95) with chopped garlic and cheese sprinkled on top. It was good but they could put more garlic and cheese to amp it up more. Grandson got the kids waffle with egg and bacon ($5.50). Looked really good- I'd order it if I could. My daughter tells me the kids strawberry shortcake ($5.25) with strawberries on top of a butter biscuit and topped with whipped cream is darn good. I've only been to this place twice. The first time I went there with my father in law was this past Thursday. We went there about 12 ish in the afternoon. I had ordered their western bbq burger, and my father in law ordered the corned beef hash. The food was tasty, and the service was great. I would have given that day a 5 star review. Today, Saturday afternoon, at about 1:30, I brought my wife to enjoy the great food and service we had gotten a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same wonderful experience we had a couple of days prior. The first disappointment was that we couldn't order lunch at 1:30. Wth?! Apparently, breakfast on the weekends is until 2 pm. Then they will serve lunch from 2 pm. I guess dinner is served from 5 pm. So breakfast is from 7am - 2pm. Lunch time is a 3 hour window. It's kind of a silly concept. Oh well, that's something you should consider if you want a late lunch. The second disappointment was the service. I think they were shot handed. They only had one waitress, and she was trying her best to be on top of things, but she was having a hard time managing 6 or so tables. People were waiting for refills of coffee and drinks, waiting for their checks, etc. Because we couldn't order from the lunch menu, I decided to try the traditional breakfast, and my wife had the chicken and waffles. My traditional breakfast was good, my wife's breakfast was just ok. The waffles seemed burnt, and the sauce for the chicken was just ok. The overall ambiance is ok, an old-time feel. The floor seems to dip in with every step of people who walk by the tables. Yes, shaking the tables a bit. It didn't matter if the person was small or big. Seems like the floor rafters and floor itself need to be replaced to make it sturdier. This place definitely can be really great with some changes and tweaks.
