We got the eggs Benedict and Breakfast sandwich, both seemed like they had potential to be amazing but just wasn't a grand slam. Both dishes had eggs that were borderline undercooked, so mentally that was difficult as we dug in. The hash brown patty on my sandwich had a fishy taste, I'm guessing maybe the oil they cooked it in? I felt like the American cheese took away from the overall taste. The taste of the ham on the eggs Benedict had a weird taste as well. We also ordered a latte which tasted burnt. Visually these dishes looked promising but was hit or miss on the taste. FYI it's a fixed menu, the kitchen will not do any substitutions. I think it would help if they put that on the bottom of menu to at least give customers that expectation of no hope. Our waitress tried asking the kitchen to cook our eggs differently but they wouldn't. Overall, cute decor inside with nice wait staff but the food was just meh for us. read more

Have eaten breakfast here several times and each time I find a new menu item I like. The breakfast sandwich is sandwich perfection, the pancakes are delicious and my 4 year old loves them as well. The tostada and the chefs hash are all great go to's as well. I have also had an egg cream which brought me back to my days as a kid and a perfectly made cappuccino. The space is also very warm and inviting, I have always felt comfortable either sitting at the bar or at a table. This is a must go for anyone in the area. read more

The ambiance is happy, peaceful with friendly smiling faces and a beautiful mural of trees depicting the John Jay Homestead. Breakfast is here is simplicity at its best yet elevated. The pancakes come with topping options such as cinnamon roll which was my fav. I may never have a cinnamon roll again cuz this pancake is all that and more. The damn good Beni was exactly that; eggs pouched to perfection with just the right amount of sauce as not to overwhelm the marriage of the English muffin & Canadian Ham. They have done a really nice job on the renovation and I was excited to have a business meeting there today . The menu is very nice ,unfortunately they are not very flexible with substitutions if you have allergies . They have 3 omelettes all with cheeses I can't have. When I asked could they combine spinach and broccoli or another veggie I was told no, I could only have one vegetable, even if wasn't having cheese. This isn't a very customer centric approach and could be one of the reasons it wasn't very crowded. I hope they do well but it left a bad taste and I won't be returning. read more

A friend told us to try this out so we ventured up from Chappaqua. This was a disappointing first visit. We were three and were crammed into a table for two. My son originally ordered the breakfast sandwich and asked for the eggs to be scrambled instead of fried. "We can't". I tried to order an omelette with spinach and mushrooms. "No. Only the four options on the menu. We can't customize." Huh? It's the veggie omelette without some ingredients. When the food came out we had to ask twice for butter, syrup and hot sauce -- and one has brown that was supposed to come out with the omelette but never appeared. The food was 'ok'. The eggs in my son's tostada were watery, and my egg white omelette was broken. The staff hovered asking us four times if we were done -- in an attempt to turn the table. We were there for thirty minutes. I do hope they improve because there are much better options in Mount Kisco and Chappaqua at this price point. read more

I have ordered from this cafe several times and must say that this is the first time I have encountered poor service. When I arrived to pick up my order, I waited several minutes before I was acknowledged, no greeting just a finger pointing to where I should pick up my order. When I proceeded to the designated pick up area, my order wasn't completed, so I waited. When the Iced Mocha was given to me it had no ice and minimal mocha. When i questioned why there wasn't any ice in the drink the response was " it must have melted, the drink was just made". When i tasted the drink, he was right it did melt because the drink was more water then coffee. It saddens me to write this because throughout the pandemic I have almost exclusively ordered from local businesses, sadly I may have to find a new spot for coffee. read more

"Different. Fresh. Incredible." These are the words that immediately came to mind while checking out the newly opened "Jay Street Cafe" in Katonah. Hospitality wise, the hostesses, wait staff and busers well equally outstanding. That is an important attention to detail with me these days, since it seems to have become overlooked in many eateries. How you are taken care of is as much a part or your experience as your food is, in my opinion. The staff won me over from the minute we arrived. (*Listen to me; as soon as your seated, ask for an order of Brothers Chips. When you get them, stir from the bottom to distribute that sauce. You can thank me later) Mini corn dogs with warm cinnamon syrup as an appetizer were a huge hit. The layered egg Tostado, Chef's Hash, sample plate, and pancakes were all winners. Grain toast, fresh eggs, perfectly cooked & plated dishes caused silence at our table as everyone dove in. Don't sleep on a side of breakfast sausage which were so tasty and shared by the table. As if that all wasn't enough, we had to go overboard, and thankfully so, by sharing 2 milkshakes for the table. "Salted caramel pretzel" and "vanilla with chocolate swirl" were amazing and served the old fashioned way in shake glasses with extra on the side. I'm recommending you get there as soon as possible, because i can guarantee when the word on this one spreads, it's going to be hard to find a table. read more

The taco salad was different from the one they have on the social posts and when we asked where are the tacos and why it looked like a different dish..the annoyed waiter instead of saying let me check with the kitchen simply said this is it if you want I can bring you tortillas! We asked to take it back and remove it from the check, we ended up sharing our blt with fries which was ok and then we left! Oct 2021, Could not sit outside due to the Bees buzzing around the tables, however the Hostess told us before being seated outside about the Bees, so we opted to sit inside. We sat in the back by the window, counter style overlooking the street. Before being seated by the window we asked the Hostess to switch out the barstool that had "no back" for the barstool with a back or else we would have to walk out and go to a different restaurant. How does anyone enjoy their meal sitting on a chair without a back, this is not very comfortable for the customer - word to the owner of the restaurant please! switch out the " no back" barstools for ones with backs. Now for the breakfast that was delicious - we shared the Pancakes (3) and Perfect Plate (eggs, bacon,toast,hash brown). Pancakes we light and airy and large, we really couldn't eat the 3rd pancake, so we took it home. Also, the service was fast and staff friendly. The coffee in my opinion was a little too strong for my liking, so only had one cup, my friend ordered a chocolate egg cream soda that she enjoyed. All and all this is a great place for breakfast and lunch, but until the Bee problem outside is handled you will need to sit inside, not unless you can stand the bees buzzing around your table. But, breakfast here is not cheap, we walk out spending over $30. read more

I was psyched to have a nice outdoor spot so close to home. So last week I ordered the chopped salad and sadly, after eating a good portion of it, I noticed a thick black hair in it. ew. (My hair is fair)...Ok, They removed the fee, obviously I didn't finish my lunch. OK, humans happen and they were apologetic. So, w another friend, decided to try it again on this nice Saturday. The staff was attentive and so I was pleased. Sitting outside under the umbrellas was lovely. (Didn't want to eat something with lots of small pieces to I ordered the quartered sliced cornbread french toast.) Unbelievably, it happened again! It clearly was from a different person's head of hair nor not at all like my own.. to say the least, I was not happy! The manager insinuated it was my doing since she said it never happens, she said she was there when it happened last time and SHE acted indignant! I suggested: "perhaps the cooks should wear hair nets" and got a rote response from her. I give 2 stars cause the wait staff was very good and truly it is a nice spot.. had it not happened it would be 4-5 stars. But I will not return. What better place to go if you are a breakfast/brunch lover like me (of course brought some friends along). The food was soooo good, I had poached eggs and hash, we shared the corn dog sausage, others at the table had the quinoa bowl, and short stack of pancakes all looked fabulous and they said were very good. The portions were generous, staff very accommodating and attentive even on a busy Saturday. Looking forward to returning so that I can try something else on the menu and have a hot chocolate with a giant marshmallow on top that was glaring at me from another table. The Jay Street Cafe is a must visit!! The ambience is filled with good energy and the staff is very kind and attentive! You have to start your meal with a delicious cup of their freshly brewed coffee (several styles) and/or their decadent signature hot chocolate topped with a toasted jumbo marshmallow! The Cafe offers both an array of delicious "comfort food" items as well as healthier dishes like their Power Bowl (poached eggs, quinoa, greens and avocado). For those seeking classic dishes, I recommend their short stack Pancakes, French Toast or the classic bacon and eggs! For the curious at heart, I recommend their Breakfast Corndogs!
