As I returned to in person work a few months ago, I wanted to buy new professional clothing. I really like the brands and clothing that JCPenney has and made three in person trips and two curbside trips, over the course of two months to restock my wardrobe. The clothes themselves were nice, very nice brands, great quality and I spent over $1K. However, they only had one dressing room for the entire women's department on the second floor and, they had only one employee working that dressing room. That employee is the one who made my visits very frustrating and upsetting. That employee treated me in a biased manner, that made me feel deeply uncomfortable and upset. And as a result I have not returned to the store to buy clothing. The employee each of the three times I shopped there, treated other customers, who were not of my similar ethnicity, in a more hospitable manner than she treated me and it was obvious. For example, she allowed a customer immediately in front of me to take in her cart of clothes, but she grabbed at my cart and moved it out, saying that I could not take in the cart. She did not count the clothes of the customers ahead of me, but she made sure to grab at the clothes I had in my arms and count them, telling me to put some back because I was only allowed to take in a certain number of clothes. She made sure to stay in the dressing room area while I was in my smaller room trying on the clothes, but she was out and about sorting clothes, etc. when other customers were in the room alone. She gave me the "look," eying me up and down, while she behaved in a more courteous manner to other customers and was rude to me. Overall, the experience at this particular JCPenney has been lacking. They have shoes in a "self-serve" manner and have shut down both of the counters that were in that shoe department (where the shoes are stocked and there is an open doorway, they removed the counters). They have, as I stated, only one dressing room per floor, so that women's athletic wear, teen clothes, full figure, work clothes, etc....all the clothes from these areas have to be tried on in the one single dressing room. I tried to do an online order where it would be curbside. I followed the directions and used the app, etc. but had to wait over 30 mins and finally had to call them to get my order. These have been my experiences within only two month's time and I it is dismaying because we all know JCP is struggling to stay open. And the cost cutting moves of a single dressing room, etc., could work, but not as long as they have the wrong, rude, incompetent, and biased staff. read more

I usually have a good experience with JC Penny staff, however I greeted a cashier by the name of Rosa and would not acknowledge me. I kept asking her if it waa the correct receipt because I was returning an item her response to me was she was trying to verify. She could of easily greeted me and explained it. Was in line for over 20 minutes, SERIOUSLY. When I 1st got in line there was 3 ladies ringing people up, then 1 left, and the other 2 were with the same customers the whole time until 1 finished then she left on break.....? If I didn't need that blouse for an event that I was going to right from the store I would've left the store, like several people behind me did. If they are going to open new credit accounts they should have a dedicated person to do just that and let the others ring people up. Several other associates passed by but nobody called for anyone to get on a register to help the 20 or so people that were standing in line. read more

Laziest associates in Mens Department. Tried their best not to sale a tie to me, that they never figured out the pricing for, yet displayed it for sale! Thankfully the manager had more sense and knowledge of customer service. The associate also rung up another item that was on sale, but charged me full pricing. When she realized it was on sale, she was too lazy to cancel the whole purchase (of just 2 items) & took of $20 instead - it's no wonder companies are going out to business - who wants to deal with lazy, inconsiderate sales associates. read more

What a MESS! Came here at 955am (store opens at 10am). They didn't open the door until exactly 10am, when we walked in the lights were still off! This place was a hot mess. I mean things were completely out of place, tables were not tidy and neat. This is unacceptable for early morning opening. Clothing on the floor. I know they left the store like this because we were the first ones here! How is it acceptable to leave a store in this condition especially knowing Saturday mornings are big shopping days. Whoever the closing manager was on 06/24/16 should be ashamed they left the store in this condition. We have a jcpenny credit card and honestly I couldn't even deal with this much chaos. I haven't been to the mall or JCP in a long long time but today I had such a pleasant experience. First I had 2 very nice ladies upstairs in the men's area help me find the area I was looking for (didn't get their names), especially the 2nd one was very cheery and joking with me because I looked lost trying to find the tailor/dressing room (it moved years ago I guess lol). ANYWAY, when checking out, MONA was the most pleasant rep I've dealt with in retail in a while. She offered the card and wasn't pushy and if I wasn't house shopping I would've totally applied. 69. They hold some of the best sales every now and then, but that's when it's most disorganized and crowded, which is understandable. There is a limited petite and swimwear section. The staff is a hit-or-miss. If you're looking for affordable business casual and classy apparel, this is probably the place to go since they do have a huge selection. read more

Don't buy any appliances here- stick with Home Depot or Lowe's. JCP is over priced and if you have to return an item like we had to, because it didn't work...they wouldn't reimburse us all our money. I want the love JCP so bad but I can't shop here anymore. I'm trying to exchange something I bought online, I lost the receipt. They make it so difficult, first you have to return only in the home section wait in a long line, then they have to search their computer to try to find the purchase then after the poor unhappy employee can't find it she has to call headquarters to God knows who....meanwhile the people in line are irritated, I'm frustrated. Came to JCPenney today for a few returns, exchanges, and pick ups today. Let me just start off by saying Monica is my girl!!! Her customer service is EXCELLENT!!!! There was a line of customers waiting to be helped but despite that, she never lost her cool, also given the fact that I had several things I needed help with. She was patient, kind, and courteous. I had my 5 month old son with me and she was even giving him compliments and he was all googoo gaga over her! She opened up a box from one of my pickups for me and took out all the contents and put everything in a bag to make it easier for me since I was carrying my son. Pick- up Department was a good experience, quick and friendly service. But the register upstairs not so much! When asked, the cashier said they no longer have coupons, did not even suggest to use my cellphone to look it up. But i know better, so I did so I was able to use a coupon, but what if an older shopper did not know they can do that?! Do something to KEEP your shoppers from going somewhere else! I came here to purchase some jeans. The lady in the shoe counter was really nice and whatever, but she kept insisting for me to open a card. First time, she asks. I say no, I'm too young. She asks for my age. I say 18. She tells me its not too young and thats a good age to open a credit card. I say "No thank you." And then she tells me and my friend how I can build up credit. FUCK THAT. I am not going to open up a fucking card. STOP ASKING! I get that your job depends entirely on how much credit card apps you open, but still. I blame JCP for this. My husband ordered jeans at JCPenney through JCP.com. The website states that there were 5 in stock in his size. Therefore, he could pick up the jeans in the store the next business day. However, the order was canceled the next day after the credit card was charged. We contacted the 800 number for JCP.com and we were told that the store, this store in West Covina canceled the order without entering any notes as to why. The JCP.com customer service representative called the store with us on the phone. After speaking with a sales representative, we were informed that they did have the jeans but the jeans were not available. The JCP.com representative asked to speak to a manager and we the all spoke to Barbara, who informed us that the store had the jeans, but they were still in boxes. Our JCP.com representative asked if they could take the jeans out of the box since the costumer has already paid for the jeans. Without any explanation, Barbara told us "no". The JCP.com representative asked "really?" and again Barbara said that the jeans were not available. The card was charged and we were told the money should be back on the card in 24 hrs. After that the money was never returned and the store did not have the jeans available after two days. We were told we had to wait 3-5 days for the money to be returned for an order the store canceled because they didn't want to open the box with the jeans in it. We went to the store and demanded a refund and after back and forth with various store managers we were eventually given the refund. Step up your online order game JC Penney! I wish I could remember the lady's name who helped me in the window treatment department... She went above and beyond helping me with my drapes! Downside - no more coupons! Also, I wanted to pay with some gift cards I got for my wedding and, because we had to order them online ( free shipping promo - yay!) computer would only take JCP gift cards. I had to buy a JCP gift card paying with my two Visa and Amex cards. Clerk was sweet, though, when I suggested it.... She tried it and it worked..... Wish they had a bigger "pinch pleat" selection.... I know they're the old style (using a traverse rid with the pulleys to open and close) but I rent and desperately wanted to change what the owners had hanging. A bargain shopper's erotic dream. This review is for the women's clothing only. I love, love, love the women's clothing at JCP. I feel like this oft-forgotten place our grandparents once shopped is a hidden gem in the realm of overpriced department stores. IMHO, the West Covina and Santa Anita locations offer the most selection. It is rare I don't walk out of one of these stores with at least a few new items I have to somehow jam into my closet. Sign up for the emails and get 20% off coupons you can apply to items already on sale. Today I spent $67 on six dressy/casual tops normally priced in the $15-2o range. I don't believe in spending huge amounts on clothing, especially when my tastes so often change. JCP has sales so often it is almost absurd to buy something you see at regular price. If you see a cute top or dress, hold off on buying it because chances are you'll find it marked down within a couple of weeks. I don't think a lot of people think of going here for clothes but it's my absolute FAVORITE place to shop for current, affordable trends that will leave you without shoppers remorse. Definitely higher quality then Ross (cheap clothes) or Marshalls and around the same price. Love their A.N.A. line, not crazy about Joe Fresh but you can find good deals sometimes. I'd leave a zero if I could for the appliance delivery service they have. Found the appliance I wanted at a reasonable price. Sales person was awesome and then came the day before the delivery. They were supposed to call to schedule a time but didn't so my husband called them. Turned out they assigned a time (without letting us know). There was no budging on the time which was ridiculous since we have to be a work from 7am-11am. They people at GE delivery were very rude and not at all helpful. They are stationed in the east coast and I don't understand why since there are plenty of companies on the west coast. I like JC Penny. I've bought stuff here and I recently came during a sale. I didn't buy anything, but I was really really really tempted too. I tried on some bathing suits because I've been needing a new one. I found two I was thinking about buying, but I didn't. Not because they weren't cute or reasonably price, but because I had already bought stuff recently and while I liked the bathing suits it didn't justify going over my budget. JC Penny has some great coupons $10 off of $10 spent there's another with $10 of $25. Sometimes during the holiday's they have sweepstakes to get coupons. They also have coupons for glasses and photography. I like the Sephora in JC Penny too. JC Penny's points card is cool too. I like that it isn't a credit card like Macy's. read more

Worthless jewelry department associates on Black Friday. I always shop here for my work clothes, so I came today on Black Friday to purchase a Samsung watch for my mom's Christmas gift. A lady who helped me said she had a good deal on a Samsung watch for 100$. So I bought it and even bought the warranty. When I got to my car I opened it and realized there was absolutely nothing in there. The box was completely empty. So I go back into the store and the other girl who rang me up was completely oblivious as to what she should do. I was in there for 15 mins just trying to get an answer. Then another lady comes and says she can't sell me that watch because it's a display... Even though I already bought it! It was technically mine already. I paid for it and now their acting as if I never did. Once I explained it to them, and they were able to process it through their little retail brains, they finally offered me to return it and get my money back. There were no apologies. They couldn't care less that they did this to me. I was beyond pissed, but there was no point in arguing with these women because one, they didn't care and two, their brains seemed like they couldn't even comprehend what was going on and what I was feeling. They wasted my time and almost put me in an unbelievable situation because if I hadn't opened the box and just wrapped it up for Christmas I would have been out 100$ for nothing. I guess it wouldnt have been as horrible of an experience if they were atleast a bit sympathetic, but they really did not care what so ever.
