I'd noticed some work going on here for awhile, and they're finally open. They've really cleaned up the place, inside and out. Larger than it looks, with a nice seating area. Fried fish and chicken dominate the menu, but there are other interesting things like pork chops, alligator sausage, etc. I wanted to try everything but settled on just a few things. Got single pieces of catfish and perch, and the sausage sandwich, with some fried okra. The fish was good. Nice thin batter, maybe a little overcooked but not bad- tender and flaky inside. The sausage was great. Actually pork and alligator, it was juicy and tasty. Served on a bun with grilled onions and banana peppers, I wolfed it down. The fried okra was good- big portion, nicely breaded and cooked. I want to try the chicken and pork chops, and I saw sweet potato pie so of course I need to have some. Hours are pretty much weekends only, so check first. Great service, decent prices. Bathrooms are a little odd- there's a little hallway with the women's in it, but the men's is in the main room. Look for a little silhouette of a man, oh.

The catfish meal with fries and or onion rings is superb. The way they season that fish with those great seasonings and the fries are seasoned well as the good onion rings. My wife had the pork chop meal that was tasty and we enjoyed the chicken wing and fish combo too. The service and cleanliness of the establishment makes it a great place to return to when I go back to Columbus Ohio. I highly recommend that you try this place to receive the pleasure of good food and service .

Guess what slaps?!?!? JD's Kitchen! I'm over here trying to balance myself on this couch like a stuffed seal because their food was so good, the kiddo and I ate it up before taking a breath and now we're stuffed! The fried catfish - slaps! The whole chicken wings - slaps AND they don't have a lot of grease on them so you don't feel like you have to cleanse afterwards.. The green beans - slaps! Next time I'll get there before the greens get sold out! #blackowned #hoteatstastytreats

I came across this spot as a recommendation for Black Restaurant Week online. I'm always in support of Black Owned Businesses. Parking was blocked in front of the Business but there's parking on the side. Greeted right away. Cashier was nice and helpful. They were out of beef ribs and brisket @1p but there were other options of course. Decided on a half slab of the St. Louis ribs and 2 combos. Whiting and tilapia with wings. Chili and Buffalo were our choices. Plenty of seating inside. Decor was ok. Clean and no fishy or overpowering smell of chicken. Fish was not seasoned as much as I'd like. Fries were blah but substituted with green beans and greens. Those needed seasoning as well. Fish was cooked to perfection regarding texture and flaking. Wings were great. Added vinegar and hot sauce to greens and that made them better. I'd go back but would ask for extra seasoning for sure. Ribs were TENDER, not too much sauce. I'd prefer a little more on the side maybe. Time to wait was about 20 min. I'd go back for the wings. I'd go back but only in passing. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Please support this Black business.

I needed to kill some time today while my windows on my new vehicle was getting tinted next door to JD's kitchen. This establishment was within walking distance so I came over and sat down for a late lunch and OH BOY when I tell you that I wasn't disappointed I mean that $hiT... OMG, the food was sooooo damn good!!! Upon entering this fine establishment I quickly noticed the cleanliness of this restaurant! That's a very important feature to me because that dictates how I'm going to enjoy my meal! The service while I was ordering was quite pleasant as the young man that was taking my order took took the time to answer my questions about the menu items. After ordering I went to the restroom to wash my hands and just like the dining area the restroom was immaculately just as clean! As I was coming out my food was being brought over to me as I sat down! Hot & Fresh!!! I Wholeheartedly enjoyed my meal and I am giving this restaurant five stars, if there was an option to give Jd's Kitchen six stars I would do it! I can't wait to come back one day soon! I live on the other side of Columbus but I will make that trip I PROMISE!!!

Taste was great. I love having a soul food restaurant so close. I switch up the menu a little bit on the sides but overall it was great.

I looked at the steam table, and not sure what to get because I tire of spending my money and being disappointed. I ordered something that I thought would be a safe-bet...I ordered 4 fried wings, Mac and cheese, and candied yams. I started tasting my food when I got in the car. The wings were perfectly cooked -- juicy and tender. The Mac and cheese had a decent amount of cheese, not like some places that cover their Mac and cheese with some type of Velveeta sauce. I would have eaten all of my wings in the car, but I needed some hot sauce, which surprisingly the restaurant did not have. I finished my meal when I got home. The yams were delicious...not overly sweet. I will say that the wings and Mac and cheese could have used a little more seasoning, but that was okay...there are many times where I went to a soul food restaurant and had to toss food because it was way too salty. I would rather my food to be under seasoned than over seasoned. You can always add, but you can't take it away. I will definitely return, and try something else on the menu, and hopefully not be disappointed.

Turn in at the light, and be careful about which driveway you pick- I think it's the second driveway, near a daycare, and it winds around back to the restaurant. You can see the place from James. Pretty busy at lunchtime, a few dine in and some carryout. Served cafeteria style, so you can see what you want, and drool over it. Well, there's a clear shield, but you know what I mean. I got smothered pork chops, since I hadn't had them forever. Meaty, tender, covered in gravy and onions. So so good, especially as comfort food on a cold day. You can also get them fried. Plenty of other things on the menu looked good. And all of the sides sounded good. I ended up getting one that was a mix of cabbage and greens, instead of getting the two separately, so that gave me space for another side. I went with mac & cheese. Sweetie's mom's mac is the best in the world. I'm not kidding. This is not quite that good, but is a very good homemade version, loaded with cheese, and baked in a big pan. Service was excellent. Prices are a bit steep, but good for the quantity and quality. Canned pop. Cheap plasticware. I was leery, but the pork chops were so tender that even a plastic knife pulled them apart easily. Hardly needed it. The place is not fancy inside. Old, but clean, a few booths and tables. You're there for the food, not the decor. Or, come in and pick it up and take it home. And have better silverware... I will definitely be back. I loved what I got, and was enticed by some of the other things.

This spot hit the mark in every way. Their deals are unbelievable. They had one dollar wings for game day along with BOGO meals that included catfish, chicken and even fried lobster. I ordered wings, mac and cheese and collard greens and everything was amazing. The wings were perfectly crispy, the mac tasted like home and the greens were fresh and seasoned beautifully. Most places shortcut and use canned greens but not here. I am so glad I gave this place a try. This is officially my new favorite soul food spot and i highly recommend ! Update: had to come back and update this because I got dessert but hadn't tried it when writing the review, but the banana pudding deserves its own shoutout. I'm always nervous trying banana pudding anywhere new because so many places hit you with that artificial "laffy taffy" banana flavor. Not here. This tastes authentic with fresh cream, real ingredients, and zero shortcuts. Absolutely delicious. I love this place and can't wait to come back for more.
