This was my second experience here. I don't recall much about the first experience, it was years ago. But due to unexpected events we found ourselves here a couple days before Xmas, not terribly busy, a rather off time. We were flagged over, given menus and sat. Same guys brought over some coffee. We took a couple minutes to get settled. Menu is good size so it was challenging to decide what we wanted. We were given many minutes. So many minutes that two booths (on our wing of the restaurant) paid, left. Next was the test. Another couple was finally sat in our wing. We were ready to order and were definitely going to make sure we politely got noticed bc we are really hungry now. Finally the server takes our order, was pleasant enough and walked away. The 2 stars go to the cooks, food and the nicer lady who works behind the counter. One minus star goes to the almost unbearable smell in the restroom, absolutely disgusting. And the other minus two for our server. Seems she's been there awhile. Seems we were not the type of people she liked in her section. We could not think of any other reason for the complete lack acknowledgment. Noted, lady. Santa Cruz is progressive-ish. Until you run into humans like this. Don't get seated in the old white lady's section if you're anything but that. read more

Came to this place like 3 years ago, just giving them a late review, cuz I still remember the horrible experience here (which shows how bad this place was) . Anyway, I had dinner here with my friend. After eating and paying (paid good tips too), I went to the bathroom for a number 2. 2 minutes later, someone kept knocking on the door. 3 minutes later, the waitress knocked on my door again saying that "there's a line waiting". Really I can't even spend 5 mins pooping here? So I rushed to finish and only to walk out to see a man needing to wash his hands. Really? What happened to the "line"? While I did try the place some of the food is good and some was decent but it may depend on the time you go I can't really say. I went here just before heading back to Oakland after my vacation and for what I got it did not disappoint. The food was good for me and so was my coffee. The pancakes can use an update as mine were soft but didn't taste the greatest. The omlette was excellent well flavored and plenty of cheese on it as well. The biscuits and gravy were a bit dry however the country gravy did help them a bit as well. The service was beautiful I had no issues and the lady that served us was friendly and helped us decide what to get that was well within our taste buds. To place is very clean and has an old school vibe that's kept up. As it is an older restaurant for it to stay the way it looks for so long and still have decent food is well worth the recommendation. read more

My family and I ate at this restaurant this evening, we're from Sacramento visiting the area looking for a good place to eat we found it! We were greeted by a gentleman by the name of Hector, it was an amazing server, he bused the tables, he was the cashier and wore many hats in this restaurant.. and he served us with class, wearing a big smile, very kind and made certain we were taken care of!! He is a diamond in the rough!! This is a great place for breakfast! The restaurant has lots of tables and seating. It has a vintage, retro diner vibe. The breakfast meals are great. They have a huge menu selection. So many choices! And the prices are more than reasonable. We had the eggs over easy, bacon, French toast, fresh fruit and a small stack of pancakes. The servers are the friendliest!! Jefferys is a throwback to the old days of diners. The interior looks straight out of the 1980's. A very wide selection on the menu, and you could have anything you want. I am partial to the roast turkey dinner, lasagna special on Mondays, and the club sandwich. Service is fast and friendly, and the food is always hot. read more

I heard Jefferies has closed. Sorry to say. I should go there for breakfast once a month always great food but they're very few people ever in there. Always a good crowd on the weekend but during the week it struggles for customers sad to see it go. read more

We were super hungry and arguing about places on yelp while driving. I gave up and pulled into this spot as soon as I saw it. This is an old school diner with legit diner food. Greasy and delicious. We started with onion rings drenched in delightful fried wonderment. My wife ordered a burger club and I the bbq ranch burger. Both were amazing, delicious, and loaded with calories. I think this place called to us because we've been watching cobra Kai on Netflix and the 1980's vibes are strong here. Think of a sizzler meets downtown diner. Tones of retired people and walkers. This is an old diner. Old but clean. Probably could use an update, but there is a certain appeal to it. However, don't let the old facade fool you. The food portions were big, and they are very flavorful. I got the classic patty melt with a side salad. Oh-em-gee!!! It was a buttery and meaty goodness. The cheese and onions added more to the flavor. Will get it again when I go back. The only thing that would have made it better is if I got the fries with it. But I'm watching my carbs, so I had to make do without the fries. My son got the teriyaki which he said was delicious, too. He also got the cinnamon roll. It was so big for less than $4. He finished all sugary and cinnamony crumbs of it. My son's friend ordered the pancakes with strawberries. The strawberries were so fresh. Pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The server who helped us was very pleasant. Although, she could have checked on us more, I think her service was good. She got our food fast just as it came out of the grill. read more

A five star example of a three star restaurant (like how you have three star hotels). This is a simple diner, doing simple diner well. Service was prompt, the tables were clean, there's parking directly outside that was surprisingly busy. The restaurant inside was pleasantly quiet (no music playing) with low lightning. The food was quick, and simple, and well done. I got the BLT which had perfectly cooked bacon, a juicy tomato, and a leaf of romaine lettuce. The tomatoes weren't spread very evenly, but that was easy to fix. The French fries were hot, but not particularly crispy. read more

Our waitress was sweet. The food was delicious. I had Down to Earth sandwich was so dang good. One of my daughters had the Monte Cristo (the only picture we took) and my daughter loved it. My first time here. When I walked in about 3pm it was quiet. The place is like an "old style" Lyons restaurant. Only one server, however, I was asked what I wanted pretty quick. He was polite too. I decided on the (ham) club sandwich with a salad as the side. The salad came out first and was huge! Lots of fresh greens with beets, croutons, and other good veggies. My sandwich was delicious! The bread was fresh and soft, yet slightly toasted. Lots of avocado, ham, cheese with pickle chips on the side. Four multi-layered sections. Don't let the quiet appearance of this place fool you! This is a throwback-to-the-80s diner. I love it. The atmosphere is dark, warm, and comforting. No bright, plant-filled, boho chic, hipster ambiance here (not that there's anything wrong with that, I sometimes enjoy bright, plant-filled boho chic hipster joints.) Just don't take your date here on a first date. The servers are all super friendly and kind. Everyone gets a booth, unless you want to sit at the counter on a spinning stool. They serve a solid club sandwich and BLT, and killer milkshakes. Breakfast all day, with free coffee refills. The only negatives for me are that they don't have real maple syrup, and the OJ is not real fresh squeezed, it's the pasteurized kind. I hope Jeffery's never closes. This is my go-to comfort restaurant in Santa Cruz. If I'm having a bad day, Jeffery's always makes me feel better. read more

My partner and I have been coming here for 3+ years and the food, service, ambiance, and overall quality has gone severely downhill the older white lady with curly blond hair just started serving us within the past few months and every single time without fail she is unbelievably rude, careless, inattentive. On this topic, we went in tonight and it was no different. Except we had a different server but she was just behind the bar, vaping out in the open, openly cursing like a sailor, and trash talking customers and our server asked her if she wanted to serve us to her response being "fuck no!!!" He then said "well me either!" And our food was horrible and the prices went up somehow, we also got legit 10 fries with our $20 burgers.... Will not be returning to say the least read more

My husband and I go to this restaurant weekly cause the food is great,prices are high,but find is good. Today,April 4th,I went in to use the restroom,as I always do. A young waiter stopped me and told me I wasn't allowed to use the restroom if I'm not a paying customer. I was just in there yesterday ordering food and who is to say I wasn't going to order something after I've used the restroom/ washed my hands. Jeffreys Restaurant is much more to us than a restaurant. It's a cozy home away from home. When Mollie's Cafe in Scott's Valley closed, right before COVID, we were devastated. We had gone there twice a week for years, so its closing left a huge void. But we found Jeffrey's, and it fills that void. The food is so yummy, and very good quality. But on top of that, the people that work there are theeee best. They are so caring, generous, kind and attentive. We love Jose, Juan, Alina and Hector so much. The last few times I have been, have not had good experienced. My husband and I used to be regulars but haven't been back for months. I have had raw chicken served to me, brown lettuce, cold fries and poor service. Hope they get their act back together. :( read more
