I've been going to Dr. Wu for about 7 years now (since she was at a different office in Mountain View). She is by far the best dentist I've ever had. She is very patient with me, which is the single most important factor for me. I hate needles and always require extra time for numbing. I have had horrible experiences with other dentists and how rough they are with me and my teeth. In fact, I stayed away from dentists for years because of it. Thankfully, I found Dr. Wu (through a friend). She has always performed exemplary work, all of my root canals and fillings are fine with no issues at all. Her hygienists are all great (though Frank might talk a bit too much), they are always thorough and are very understanding on me about my cleaning habits (I have a number of crooked teeth making it hard to clean). I have never had an issue with re-scheduling appointments due to emergencies and they are willing to put you on a next available list should you need to move an appointment up. Some people have had issues with the front office, not certain why except that it sounds like typical issues you can get at any office. If you need something changed, update, or you are uncertain, you need to ask the staff directly. They've always been happy to help. read more

Terrible place! First time i come here because i read so many good reviews then found out this is crap. I went to the place 15 min early to fill out forms and stuff, then waited another 30 min to get brought in. Then waited on the chair for another 15min to talk to the doctor for like 5min. also, they make medical insurance mistakes end up charging me for my check up. Then after so many calls with them, they finally submit the right claim but still they don't call back to tell me the status. Horrible place, I won't come again. read more

Dentist isn't good for complex treatments. I had a root canal done here and it wasn't done well, so I had to redo it and eventually I had to remove the tooth. Their accounting is fishy: when I had my last appointment with this dentist I talked to them to be sure that I didn't need to pay for anything, and they said all is paid. More than a year after I visited them I received an "overdue" bill that I supposedly didn't pay. For what it's worth I did feel good and welcome when I visited this dentist. read more

Dr. Jennifer Wu is a friendly person but you don't go there for this reason. The manager is sort of mean and superficial in my opinion. Dr. Wu seemed inexperienced when it came to a more complex issue. If you go there only for a routine check-up or cleaning, I think it's O.K. I will not recommend this dentist. read more

Even with the great service, I felt a little cheated. After the services, a month later, I got a bill, thanks for checking for what was covered and what I was going to be charged....eventually... I have been going to Dr. Jennifer Wu since 2009. When I first moved here from southern California, I was going to my husband's dentist but something was kind of lacking for me so I went searching on Yelp and found the great reviews on Dr. Wu. In all my 40+ years, she is only the second dentist I have had long term. For me, Dr. Wu is the ideal dentist: - She is someone of integrity with a warm, open and sensitive personality who is really good at what she does. - Dr. Wu respects and appreciates you. She never has that "I'm the doctor - you're the patient" attitude. You are a client who chooses to be a patron of her business out of the many dental offices in the area. I have the feeling that she gets that and appreciates your business. - Dr. Wu explains and talks over your dental issue and leaves you with choices. She will give her input about different treatment options and time frame for treatment, but never push her opinion. She makes certain that the front office staff prints out a treatment plan for you so you are fully aware of cost. - She offers quality referrals, but never pushes them. If you have a professional you feel more comfortable with, she is open to you going to them for treatment instead. That said, twice I have used Dr. Wu's referral for root canal work with no issues following the procedures. Another positive about Dr. Wu's office is my experience with the hygienist. Charles has been my hygienist for all the years I have been going to Dr. Wu's. He is excellent at educating you about your teeth, and teeth care in general. At every 6 months checkup, I can always count on a thorough cleaning and good conversation with Charles. When I had a series of good checkups, he was up front with me and let me know that if I wanted to postpone a routine x-ray or do a partial, I certainly had the choice. One more important point is that the office strives to stay up to date with technology. They have a very cool machine which has the capability of making dental crowns in their office while you wait. I've had 3 crowns total over the years with Dr. Wu and the last 2 were made with this machine. You can actually watch as the machine is shaping your crown. I am so glad I found Dr. Wu on Yelp years ago and that my experiences reflected the same positive experiences of other reviewers. I continue to receive the same high quality care even today. Since I pay for all my services out of pocket because I do not have dental insurance, I can always vote with my dollars and go elsewhere if the quality of the service and experiences were not up to par. So far, I have not had to do that. read more

I'm only giving Dr. Wu 4 stars for now, but only because I haven't had any major work done by her, which I think is the real test of good dentistry (probably due to her excellent preventative care). That being said, I've been her patient for a while now (3? 4 years?) and I've loved being her patient. She has a friendly demeanor, helpful office, and gentle touch. Dr. Wu will not try to sell you anything you don't need and once, in a fit of vanity, I'd asked about tooth whitening and she said "Well, I'll tell you how much it costs, but I don't think you need it." Dr. Jennifer Wu is a great dentist! I've been to 3 other dentists in the Bay Area before I found her, and boy, are there differences. First of all, Dr. Wu was trained at UCSF, which is one of the best dental schools in the country, and it shows in her technique. Also, Dr. Wu is very current and uses state-of-the art dental equipment in her office. She uses digital X-rays, which reduces radiation exposure by 90%, showing that she cares about protecting her patients when other dental offices are too frugal to upgrade their outdated equipment. She also gave me a wonderful in-lay 2 years ago using a very accurate computer program. The procedure was painless and fast, and the in-lay was ready in 15 minutes, fit perfectly, and I've never had a problem with it since. Previous to that at another dentist, I had two chipped inlays, perhaps due to improper fit. And those procedures required two visits each -- one to get a temp in-lay, and one when the in-lay came back from the lab. Finally, I can trust that Dr. Wu will never push a service on me that's unnecessary. Every time I look in the mirror, I have painful memories of being a naive 25-year old girl having a shiny gold crown put in because my dentist convinced me that "they last longer and no one can see". (He was only right about the first part. ) Also, I've been seeing her for the past 4 years, and I have never been told that I need a "deep cleaning" every 6 months or 18 X-rays every year like I've been told at another office. I'm sure I might need a deep cleaning one day, but so far, just the regular 6 month cleanings, and daily brushing and flossing seem to keep my teeth pretty healthy. It can be confusing to look for a dentist, since there seems to be a dental office on every block . . . Whichever dentist you choose, make sure make sure he or she has integrity, is highly trained, and demonstrates commitment to patient care by investing in the best dental equipment available. read more

While I had a great experience with my regular cleaning at Dr. Wu's office, their referral process was so terrible that I cannot give her more than 1 star. At my first appointment, it was clear that I needed my wisdom teeth removed within the next few months. She provided me with a referral slip and information to contact a "trusted" oral surgeon a few miles away. After setting up my appointments, and going through a consultation, I found out a week before my surgery that she had referred me to an out-of-network surgeon. I had almost paid 3 times what I should have because Dr. Wu refers based on her "trusted" referral list, without checking if these referrals are covered by her patients' insurance. I had to cancel my appointment one week before it was scheduled, and have to start the entire wisdom teeth process over. In addition, when I was rescheduling my wisdom teeth surgery to a new oral surgeon she had recommended (and I had checked on my own was covered under my insurance) I had to find the email address and contact information for her front desk by myself - despite the fact that they had referred me, they didn't keep track of other offices' contact info. Overall, I am extremely frustrated with the quality of services provided by Dr. Wu's office, and recommend that anyone seeking referrals choose another dentist! read more

After moving here 3 years ago, I struggled to find a dentist. I tried 3 different places and all were a complete nightmare. One cleaning was so bad it left me in tears (and I am NOT a crier)! I had located Dr. Wu through Yelp. Compared to other dentists in the San Francisco Bay Area, there were alot of positive reviews regarding Dr. Wu. So I decided to set an appointment to see her and I was not disappointed. Both Dr. Wu and her staff wildly exceeded my expectations of what a patient can expect from a dental office. When I first arrived at Dr. Wu's office, I was warmly greeted by Cindy who walked me through the neccessary paperwork. The dental assistants and other staff members at Dr. Wu's office were just as warm and kind. This was a pleasant change compared to other dental offices where I felt like I was being herded through the office like cattle heading for slaughter. I was initially examined by Dr. Hwang, a colleague of Dr. Wu. She briefly went over what she was going to do during the visit. She examined my teeth, did x-rays and discovered that one of my backteeth were infected. This tooth was the same tooth my previous dentist had completed a root canal several months earlier. Dr. Hwang gave me an honest assessment and advised me that I needed to see a specialist. She did not think it was advisable for her to do so since the tooth was so far back. I really appreciated her honesty... After the root canal was completed at Peninsula Endodontics (another great place by the way), I returned to Dr. Wu's and met the good doctor herself. She was really kind and caring. She went over in detail what she was going to do today. Near towards the end of her explanation, she said that she could get my crown done in about 2 hours. HUH - I thought I misunderstood her but she said, 2 hours. Her office has a CEREC machine which creates crowns during a single visit. I lied down on the chair expecting that a glob of plaster would shortly be thrown in my mouth and closing off my oxygen supply. But no...she placed a small camera/sensor in my mouth. Within 15 minutes it was all done. This sensor had digitically mapped the region where the crown would be placed. No plaster and I could breathe throughtout the process!! The next thing I know, Dr. Wu said "OK - you can go Christmas shopping - see ya in two hours". I left her office thinking - "Two hours - no way...." I came back two hours later and the crown was ready to go. It was a perfect match and I was out the door within 30 minutes. Compared to my previous dentist, who not only messed up on the root canal but also screwed up on my crown (a crown which I had to wait for over 3 weeks), this was a complete shock. Dr. Wu is just hands down the best dentist I have ever met. Both Dr. Wu and her staff are efficient and kind - which is a rare combination in any profession. I still laugh when they ask me, "Are you sure you want to come to our office from Redwood City?" The answer is a resounding "YES - ABSOLUTELY!" In order to get the best dental care in the bay area, it's worth the drive. Go see Dr. Wu - you will not regret it!!! read more

I'm very picky with my dental care and Dr. Jennifer Wu (dentist) and Charles (hygienist) have literally provided me the BEST dental services I've ever had. I had pressure sensitivity on a molar in the back and the cause was unknown. Originally it was just cold sensitivity due to a receding gum line, I had it filled at another dental office (which did not resolve the cold sensitivity) about a year ago, but it also became sensitive to pressure and the pressure sensitivity was getting worse over time. Dr. Wu was patient enough to provide all the different scenarios of what the cause may have been (from further gum recession to filling not adhering to the tooth) and checked to ensure there were no visible cavities or cracks via visual and X-ray. After Dr. Wu reapplied the filling, the pressure sensitivity got worse and the possible causes were given as all of the above again, but now with the possibility of temporary nerve trauma typically occurring after a filling. With the pain not going away, she redid the filling a second time 2-3 weeks later free of charge. Again the pain was worse, but this time we gave it 4-5 weeks to recover and sure enough the pain went away completely. It's now been about 6 months since the procedure. What a relief and THANK YOU SO MUCH! The great thing about Dr. Wu is that although she had many opportunities to upsell me to a crown or some other expensive procedure, she has the patience and ethics to even INSIST (completely unheard of: most dentists I've had would have been more than happy to do a crown right off the bat) on more conservative options to address the issue. In addition, I had my teeth cleaned by Charles and he was awesome! He was very careful, thorough, and thoughtful. At one point I winced because of the scraping noise and from there he just kept talking to me about all the different flavor options of paste they had to distract me. I've been longing for a deep scraping of my teeth (that itchy achy feeling you get just below the gum line after a good clean) and Charles did a great job! THANK YOU! Admittedly I ran into some misunderstandings with the billing practices with the staff, but ultimately they were resolved so no harm done. read more

I wanted to add to the chorus of "Dr. Wu is awesome". From Kindergarten through high school I had extensive oral surgery, dental, and orthodontic work done. I am no stranger to having dental stuff done. As such I was completely turned off from going to dentists. To the point where I dreaded it (like most people probably). Dr. Wu was my first visit in over ten years. Dr. Wu herself is great at explaining what's going on and checking in with how the patient is doing. I had two cavities filled in addition to a cleaning, and literally felt no pain. Like not even a pinch. Not even with the numbing needle. That's a first for me. She does things slowly to emphasize patient comfort, but she's also extremely efficient. Dr. Wu has also chosen excellent staff. Everyone carries the same attitude as Dr. Wu. They are very gracious, helpful, and careful. They are non judgmental while letting you know what to work on. I have couple of fillings done by Dr. Wu over the past 2 years, and I was extremely satisfied by her work and the other staff in her office. Recently, I needed a filling to be repaired that was close enough to the nerve to end up as root canal. Initially, I was a little skeptical whether I should rather see an endodontist to do the work. So, I actually saw a good endodontist in Palo Alto, who suprisingly happened to know Dr. Wu and he re-assured me that Dr. Wu is capable enough to handle this filling even if it ended up as root-canal. So, I went back to Dr. Wu with regained confidence. She was so good that she could do that cleanly as a simple filling and so I didn't need a root canal after all! I only stopped for a while because I was getting invisilgn through a friend down south so I was going there for a while. I've also been seen by Dr Minh. Both of these ladies are awesome. I've seen my fair share of dentist, had ALOT of dental work done (braces, invisilgn, multiple crowns, root canals, fillings etc) and they rock! My favorite local dentists to be sure. The entire experience of going to Dr. Wu's office was totally awesome. The receptionist is super friendly, which makes you feel welcome. When doctor's have very unfriendly receptionists I always wonder 'don't they know or don't they care how their patients are treated?' The 6-month cleaning was the most thorough I ever received, they take the time to do everything very well, and again the woman was extremely friendly. I liked the fact that they have a digital X-ray machine, which reduces the radiation by 90%, and the pictures are right there on the computer in front of you. Dr. Wu has all the time for you that your treatment requires. She is very nice and explains everything that she sees, she explains what she suggests and what alternatives there are. I've been seeing Dr. Wu since she took over the practice from Dr. Gordon. She's always taken excellent care of me, but she doesn't accept many insurance plans, so when I left my job, I looked for a new dentist. Three dentists later, and I have a newfound appreciation of Dr. Wu and all of her staff. Seriously, look at some of the other dentists here on Yelp. Read some of those horror stories, and you'll understand why you don't want to mess around with bad dentists. Especially if you have a lot of dental problems like I do. I've got severe gum loss, bone loss, and deep pockets. Dr. Wu isn't cheap, but she's honest, and that alone more than makes up the difference in cost. I discovered, the hard way, that cheap dentists make up for their low cost by giving you overly-aggressive treatment plans, and nickle-and-diming you along the way. They'll leave you in the dark as to what exactly you need done, and how much you can expect to pay, until it's too late. Between that and discovering that dental insurance is pretty worthless anyway, I decided to drop my insurance altogether, and go back to Dr. Wu and pay cash. She's worth every penny. read more

Love this office. First of all, I asked for back to back appts for me and my sister, and she couldn't find any so we scheduled separate appts and she called me back 20 min later, obviously having contacted people to move things around to make it happen for us. My sister and I had so much fun there that after we left I said it was like visiting a spa for our teeth! My brother had recommended Dr. Wu, unfortunaltely she went on maternity leave starting the day of our appt. No prob, because Dr. Wang was GREAT! So was EVERYONE else. I moved to the bay area in 2009 and I've been seeing Dr Wu since then. Now that I'm moving out of the bay area I wanted to share that Dr Wu has been an amazing dentist. I have always had great experiences while going to see her. She's upbeat, fun, pleasant, consistent, observant, mindful, and overall great at her job. Dr Wu and her staff will be one of the big things that I'll miss after I move. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to any family or friends and the free coffee in the lobby is always nice for those early morning appointments! I also wanted to add that my review is mainly for Dr Wu and my usual dental hygienist, Yen. But, everyone else there that I've encountered seems super nice and competent as well.
