We had so much fun ordering a bunch of different slices of cake to act as a tasting for our wedding cake, we just walked into the bakery and tried out all the flavors we wanted as they had them available! There were so many good ones we ended up with three flavors! Gabrielle was very nice and easy to work with for creating the actual order and then working out the decorations when we finally decided on our flavors. Our cakes and toppers were delivered through Jennivee's delivery service to our wedding venue with more than enough time to spare. I wish we had over ordered, all of our cake was gone at the end of the night, so we didn't have any leftovers to take with us! Then for dine in, we got tiramisu, Brooklyn chocolate, mango and the tres leches slice. The moistness and sweetness of the cakes will get you! Tres leches is drowning in cream. It is soo delicious. Oh dear, this place is a GEMMMMMM! This place was recommended to me by a friend and wow did it not disappoint. First off, the store front is not huge and the inside has cozy European decors. The staff are super helpful, knowledgeable, and very friendly. In general, the cakes and cupcake I've tried have had 1) very airy light cream 2) just the right amount of sweet (not overly) 3) perfect texture, moist but not soggy. 1) mango cream cake: very light mango cream with a hint of mango. You can definitely taste the mangle flavors but is not overwhelming-- not too much, not too little, just right. The cake itself is a little drier than the tres leches but pairs well with the cream. 2) tres leches: Wow loved this cake. Rich in flavor but again, not overwhelming. Cake is moist but not soggy. 3) Purple yam cupcake: not too sweet but just sweet enough with a hint of yam flavor. A must try here! Best chocolate chip cookie in Chicago. I said it, fight me. To be fair I'd say Chicago Bagel Authority is neck in neck, but- you guys. This delivery order showed up at 11pm and the cookie was not some stale, last of the bunch scrap, this thing was freshly baked, gooey and warm, AND tasted shockingly good. And I take my chocolate chip cookies seriously. Beyond that, the cupcakes were simply divine. I ate the one called Snowball first and damn near had a religious experience. I literally thought, this is the best cupcake I've ever had. Then had the same thought with the next cupcake. You get the picture. The flavor, texture, and consistency of the cake was what every cupcake should hope to be. Fresh and packed with moisture and flavor. Perfectly coupled with the frosting which was closer to a cloud. Not some block of butter and powdered sugar that is sickeningly sweet. Every cupcake was outstanding. If you blindly picked you couldn't go wrong. This is officially my late night dessert go-to. Got introduced to their cupcakes and was definitely looking forward to visiting! Atmosphere: The quaint French decor was definitely appealing. White chairs, sofas, and chandeliers lend an air of cozy sophistication. Service: I was too distracted by the cupcakes to speak with the cashiers thus I cannot speak of their service. Food: Tasted their Purple Velvet (ube) and Mango Cream cupcakes beforehand and both were delicious! The ube icing was light and fluffy while the mango filling was creamy and sweet. Also tried the Thai Iced Tea cupcake and the icing was refreshing! As for the actual cake part of the cupcakes, they were on the thick and heavy side making them very filling. Definitely shareable! Oh how I wanted to love this place. I got the Ube cupcake. The cake was moist and the frosting had a very, very soft buttercream consistency. The flavor? Nada. There was zero flavor and it was not sweet, at all! The frosting was like I was eating very soft butter but with zero flavor. The cake part, like I mentioned before, was moist but again, completely devoid of any flavor. I'm a little amazed how they could nullify absolutely any hint of sweet, sour, salty, or bitter, flavor. Even if I didn't love supporting LGBTQ/WOC/Filipina-owned businesses, I would still travel across the city to get Jennivee's. I've eaten cupcakes all over the world, and Jennivee's is my favorite cupcake place ever. I've been there three times so far and have loved it so much. I've tried their ube, mango cream, and tres leches cupcakes, and they're all delicious. The ube is my favorite though, and it really captures ube flavors that I'm familiar with in Filipino food, unlike other trendy ube desserts that I've had in New York. They also call the ube "purple velvet" here. I definitely want to come back and try their pandan cupcake, but it's always sold out whenever I get there. I also really like that they are open late, as I've come here after my birthday dinner as well as after regular dinner with my mom. Everyone I've ever brought here--my mom and three friends--have loved the cupcakes. Will definitely be going back again whenever I have a craving. read more

First things first the owner is a trans woman of color... I mean that alone should make you want to TRY this place... even if it were to suck. She's also super sweet!! Right at the start of the quarantine I started taking long walks around the neighborhood and stumbled across this gem of a bakery. The cupcakes are some of the best in the city and the unique flavorings make for a nice break from the traditional. My personal favorite is the Hummingbird-banana cake, pineapple filling and cream cheese frosting with walnuts and carmel drizzle. I wish they would have communicated better and let me know so we could have figured something else out. I was eager to try Jennivee's after seeing her compete on Sugar Rush, the Netflix series. I was nearby the bakery one day and decided to go. I ordered the Ube cupcake and the tres leches cupcake. My overall thoughts were that the cupcakes were too cold. They keep the cupcakes in a refrigerated display case, but it makes the cupcakes less moist and difficult to taste the flavors. On first impression, the cupcakes were not good to me. Once they cooled down, I felt that I could taste the flavors better. I based my review on the flavors once they cooled down. Ube: the frosting on the cupcake was soooo delicious!! I didn't notice a distinct Ube taste, but the cake, once cooled down, was moist and the right amount of sweet. Tres Leches: the tres leches was a bust for me, even after it warmed up. I LOVE TRES LECHES CAKE! Like something bad, so I was so excited to experience the same flavors in a cupcake. The cashier even recommended I try after I asked for a recommendation. It just didn't taste like tres leches. Because it was cold, it didn't have the moist flavor of tres leches and it obviously wasn't soaked in milk. It was as if I was eating a regular vanilla cupcake. The frosting didn't stand out either. Space: The space is quaint. There is limited seating inside and more seating outside. Overall, I think the bakery is still worth supporting. There have been mixed reviews. If you give your cupcakes an opportunity to warm up, they will be good. read more

----UPDATE---- The owner contacted me back but I hadn't noticed since it went to my spam folder for some reason. Anyway, they apologized and offered credit for cupcakes which is more than I was asking for; I just wanted some kind of response in general that would come from a caring company. I will say that as we ate the cake, (which if you get the 10 inch, know that sure, it's 10 inches diameter, but that cake is tall as well! It took my wife and I a week+ to get through it having a slice a night. I think next time I'll order the 6 inch instead :D. It was really tasty throughout the week and we were kind of sad when it was finally gone. The chocolate is rich and like I said below the filling was really creamy / fluffy. Props to the person who baked it. (Rating updated to reflect above) ------Original Review---- Cake tastes great, but not what I ordered. This place has very friendly. People behind the counter who seem to really care, however, their internal order system seems flawed and open for mistakes. I submitted an order through their website for my wife's birthday cake. I THOUGHT I was being super straight forward by linking an EXACT image of the cake I wanted from their own Instagram page but explained I wanted a different flavor and possibly size. I only needed to confirm the price before actually confirming the order. I had the understanding that she was aware of my full order so I simply said the flavor and size I wanted and she gave me a price that I was surprised to hear was lower than expected, given their pricing on the website. Not wanting to think twice about it though, I agreed and paid. Upon receiving the cake I noticed it was not even close to the same one I requested. 1.No unique floral elements 2.No Macaroons I instead got a basic cake with some raspberries on top. After talking with the staff about how the cake was not what I ordered, we determined that the owner, James, was the one who wrote down the invoice for my order and then passed it off to an employee who had no idea about the image because it was not included in the invoice (see attached image). The employee told me that the cake I originally wanted would cost more and that I did actually receive the type of cake that I paid for. Despite this though they didn't have a box with the correct size for my cake so I had to carry home it in a bigger box which mushed the top raspberrys and left a crack in the side from the cake being able to slide around (the box was very unstable). All of this wouldn't be an issue if they send you a copy of your invoice for your order upon completion of the order process(which is very typical for online orders). This would have helped me notice right away that the order description was lacking in detail. THE ONLY CONFIRMATION YOU GET upon completion of your order is a charge on your credit card statement. No confirmation of your order, no confirmation of the pick up day or time (don't you dare forget the date and time!) .... I would not recommend getting a custom cake here until they can prove they have a clear and concise system in place. Otherwise you have no idea that your order is the same as what you're getting. Again the staff were very friendly, kind and understanding. They said "That really sucks, I totally understand, we're really sorry that happened to you" and then were able to show me my invoice and tracked down the issue. Since the the owner was not present, the employees said to email the owner, James, at James@jenniveesbakery.com and "he will make it right". 4 days later and I have yet to hear anything from him. I'm pretty sure it will just be ignored since they already have my money. I honestly don't know how he could "make it right" given that my wife's birthday has come and passed; but I was at least curious to see them make the effort in fixing a company mistake. If the owner does actually reach out to me to correct this, I will update my review but at the moment I see no such action being taken. Again the cake actually tastes good. The raspberry filling is nice and fluffy. The chocolate is rich. However given the huge difference between the ask and what I received, I can't recommend this place for cakes custom specifically (maybe they are better for other dessert types). read more

Usually opens after 4pm, and we arrived about 6pm. I ordered 4 cupcakes for my daughter. Mango and Ube (purple yam) cupcakes for my "exotic"/heritage palate, oreo and red velvet cupcake for my 4 year old. Cupcakes also have a surprise cream filling inside. Also, cakes are made for special occassions. Two ivory victorian furnitures reminded me of my Tita's (Filipino word for Auntie) complete with plastic couch protector. A small Christmas tree on top of the table to make it festive. Prime location near all the nightlife. Limited meter parking available. I was fortunate to park right in front. Place is pretty small as well as the outdoor seating area. One of these places you stop by before hitting the bars or hearty restaurants. Small groups for chit chatting as well. Late post: I heard and seen about this place on Netflix and always wanted to check it out. It's like a hole in the wall. The place is very small but cute and the staffs were friendly. They have utensils, water, condiments etc for you so you can help yourself. I came here with some friends for some cupcakes. I got the mango cream cupcake and hot chocolate while my friends got the chocolate, pistachio and guava. The mango cupcake tastes like pound cake and not like typical cupcake and the cream was good and not too sweeet. Overall I like the cream but not the cupcake itself since it's too dense like a pound cake. They have other flavors that are pretty unique like ube... I stopped in really quick this evening after hearing they have ube cake but after seeing their other selections, I can't wait to try some of the other cakes/cupcakes! A slice is around $7.50 with tax which is not unreasonable considering the large slice they give you. The ube cake was so yummy! The frosting was light (just the way I like it) and the cake was so moist with just a hint of sweetness. I did try homemade ube cake that was better so this place isn't my favorite, but I'm excited to visit again and try their mango cream which I heard was also good. Cashier was friendly and service was quick despite the long lines. I heard they're open till 2am, so this could be a potential late night spot for those with a sweet tooth. I had a craving for Ube cake. I've had it from Red Ribbon a few times and decided to try some place new. This is the best tasting cake I've ever had. It was perfect.
