Was disappointed to find out they didn't have the ferrero cake when we went there today. Tried their Guinness fudge cake and baileys Irish cream cake today...WOW. If you like chocolate, especially on the dark side, you can't go wrong with either one. The fudge was a bit too packed for me and more fudgy than cakey whereas the baileys was moist and light. I had heard so much about this place. So when I was passing by and there was an open parking spot, I thought tis the time to spot by. Lived that there was a concrete ramp to the door for accessibility. They had a cute seating area with plenty of tables. It felt like a space that a little girl would love with the chandelier, pink and frills. There wasn't many people there so I was quickly helped. In deciding between the Lil Gent (carrot cake) cupcake and the raspberry pistachio, the latter was recommended. It was the prettier of the two so why not. I enjoyed the raspberry pistachio cupcake. Given the height, I used a fork to be able to get both cake and the mousse at the same time. The cake by itself was okay; not too dense, but also not a pronounced flavor profile. As a buttercream or cream cheese frosting girl, I was surprised at how much I liked the mousse. The cake, raspberry mousse and crushed pistachios paired well in a bite. read more

I was looking for a new bakery to try for my wife's birthday. I was getting a little bored with our current bakery. Jennivee's did not disappoint!! I ordered the 8" Scarlett Cake. The cake was one of the best we've had in a long time! Frosting was great and the cake was very moist. Can't wait to get the Ube Chiffon cake for my daughter's birthday in a couple of months. Yum! Excellent cupcakes! If you like Pandan you must try their Pandan cupcakes! The cake itself is Pandan with It fresh slices of coconut in the center and Pandan mousse on top with a toasted coconut garnish. Not too sweet, moist with a little chew in the center thanks to the coconut. Nice vibe. Decor is a sort of old school soda fountain chic. Music is at the right level. And the people working behind the counter are seriously adorable! Gave it an extra half star because of them. There's really nothing NOT to like about the place. Place is bright, clean and beautiful. We were the beginning of a rush. We got 7 different things not including the coffee. Server was sweet and wonderful. A couple people picked up whole cakes and the rest were getting individual yummies. This place is close to Wrigley Field and I came from the La Grange area to get this. It looked great on the website and it damn sure delivered. I think people definitely need to check out these cakes if they are all as naughty as that coconut cake. read more

I recently tried Pandan flavored treats in Thailand for the first time, so when I saw it on the menu I absolutely had to try it! The cupcake was delicious! It was very dense and moist cake, and the frosting was flavorful but not overly sweet. It is hard to find Pandan flavored treats as good as it was in Thailand but this was very good! The interior is very clean and beautiful. Plenty of seating to enjoy your treats. One cupcake was all that we had but we will definitely be back to try a cake slice and some gelato in the near future! read more

These cakes are delicious! There's a lush, colorful array of cakes and cupcakes of chocolate, citrus and other creative varieties in the display case. The featured flavor is ube, the purple root vegetable with a Filipino edge, so that color is a highlight. Besides that, my friends enjoyed the Irish creme layer cake, which was delicious. My pistachio noir (great name!) cupcake was moist chocolate cake with a beautiful green frosting with pistachio nuts. A great flavor combination anytime! Great bakery cafe! read more

The cake and pastry selection here is amazingly expansive and diverse. I've never seen so many unique and creative combinations of Asian/Asian-inspired flavors before in Chicago; it's a very welcomed addition to the city! I ordered a buko pandan (pandan + coconut) cake from here 2 weeks in advance. The pick up was seamless and the cake looked and tasted great. It was perfectly moist, light, and it wasn't overly sweet. I was a fan and hope to be back again in the future to try their other smaller pastry items as well as their other flavor combinations! read more

So glad to see Jennivee's expand into a second location! The first shop has been one of my favorite bakeries for years- be it a celebration, pick-me-up cupcake, or pretty much any occasion, the time is always right for a visit. The second shop is over twice the size of the original and decorated beautifully! There is much more seating room, and customers were already chatting with friends over cupcakes on opening weekend like it was their regular spot. The pastry cases were huge and offered even more options than the original shop, including pork buns, ensaimada, and savory scones. This time, I tried the horchata and brown butter frosted banana cupcakes. Both were absolutely divine! I love how light Jennivee's signature mousse frosting is, and the horchata was no exception. The cinnamon was not too overpowering and I loved that the cake was soaked in milk to add a tres leches-like touch. The brown butter frosting on the second was a decadent buttercream, and paired so well with the nuttiness and lightly sweet banana cake. Excited to see where things go for this new outpost, and will definitely be back soon! read more

The first time I went to Jennivee's they were closed & locked up when they were supposed to be open according to their window signage. The second time was actually similar in that the doors were locked but we saw someone inside, then they came out and said they had to leave, threw on a backpack and ran off. Listen, stuff happens and the third time was the charm for me when I finally got to try their treats. Ube is one of my most favorite flavors in the land. It doesn't hurt that it's a beautiful shade of purple when freshened up but it really does have a delicious flavor to it, too. The Purple Velvet Ube Cupcake is good but mine was a bit dry. I have a feeling this won't be like in the full cake size, but it was a little sad for me. I very much enjoyed the brownie, though! It's a cute little shop and I wouldn't mind going back to try more of their beautiful offerings. read more

STALE CUPCAKES FOR VALENTINE'S DAY. VERY STALE... I live down the street in Lincoln Park and I decided to go there on Valentine's Day and I couldn't believe how hard my carrot cupcake was. The flavor was very decent but the cupcake was very hard and I love cake and I love cupcakes and I have to say this was the hardest cupcake that I've ever eaten I left your voicemail on message. Nobody returned my call. Someone later told me to email a particular email address and I did this and nobody responded. I don't think anybody gives a damn. Humility is the key to a great business. They'll never have my business again. read more

Slightly overpriced. $10 for one cookie and one small cupcake. The young female with the nose ring and dark short hair was very rude. I reached for a (wrapped) chocolate chip cookie and she says "please do not touch the cookies!" Then don't display your cookies where I can reach them. I asked if there was carrot cake or brownies and she kept repeating "if you don't see it we don't have it." Thanks, I'm just asking. I'll find another bakery just as good. read more

I recently had a cake made by them for my birthday, and it was SOOOO GOOD! The decorations came out great, and everyone at my party loved the Chobeh Cheesecake Cake (which is chocolate and ube) a flavor combination I didn't know I needed in my life. This might be one of the best bakeries in Chicago. I say this based on pure enjoyment, I'm no baking expert. But the cupcakes we got were just so phenomenal I can't imagine there are many places better than this. When you go, explore the huge assortment of cupcakes, get a coffee or one of the many other beverages and enjoy at one of the tables in their nice clean open seating area. Everything looked delicious! I came later on a weeknight and ordered a scoop of the hazelnut ice cream. You're able to try samples of their ice cream - I also tried their Brooklyn Blackout (chocolate) and vanilla bean ice cream. All flavors were really good. My friends recommend their cupcakes and cookies with their unique flavors. The interior is super cute and spacious. I'll have to come back to try their other goods. read more

Jennivee's is my absolute favorite cake place! The $9 cake slices are worth every penny, and I always leave with atleast one on every visit. Cupcakes are $4.70 now, and there are about 20 flavors to choose from every day. My favorite flavor right now is bittersweet chocolate. The crumb on that cake is - chef's kiss - perfect! Slightly dense, but not too heavy, and not as light and fluffy as a chiffon cake would be. Paired with the bittersweet chocolate frosting, it's perfection. My new year goal is order a full size cake in that flavor to celebrate (occasion TBD, LOL). Other flavors you can't go wrong with are the ube and anything with a chocolate cake (chocorazz, cookies 'n cream, strawberry chocolate). I haven't tried the carrot cake or red velvet yet here but plan to at the next chance. Thanks Jennivee's for making my day anytime I stop in! read more

Oh my goodness, what a fantastic bakery! I never managed to stop in at their old location, but their new location on Halsted is impressive. They have plenty of room for sitting with a cup of coffee and dessert, and large cases with their beautifully displayed bakery products. They routinely have a dozen cupcake varieties available. Unusual but delicious flavors include Mango Cream, Lil Gent (carrot, pineapple walnut), Tres Leches, Brown Butter Banana, and Purple Velvet (they're known for their ube-flavored baked goods)--and they're all beautifully decorated and fairly priced. Jennivee's also offered sky-high cake slices, brownies, cookies, ice cream and coffee drinks. You can also pre-order full-sized cakes. Everything is fresh and delicious, and the servers are friendly and delightful. This is a great place to go to relax with a treat for a while, or to take out. Go, go, go!! read more

I've long been a fan of the original location, but this new expanded spot is magical! They now have plenty of space for sitting to enjoy your cake, and the selections of cupcakes and cakes have increased tremendously. Plus, now they have gelato and coffee! The cake is delicious. I am not complaining about that. We ordered 3 cakes here in the last week. They were all absolutely amazing. However, the price is outrageous. We asked for a custom cake. They did a great job making it look just right. We were quoted $350 for the cake. A little pricey for sure, but we figured it would be a nice big cake for the party we were having. It was so small. I haven't physically been to the location but a friend had been raving about their cupcakes. He finally brought some to a birthday dinner at a friend's house and I can't say how delicious they were. We had tasted the Ube, Mango and Carrot cake and all were perfection. I'm not even a carrot cake fan and it was so delicious. Most fabulous bakery! I love that they got a bigger space and now offer even more deliciousness. Service is quick, order up front and they give you your order straightaway. My usual order is the purple velvet and mango but this visit I gave the brown butter banana cupcake a try and it blew me away. I have to add it to my favorites. Some of the most delicious cake I have had in the city and I don't even like cake like that. Excellent texture, both in the crumb and the icing. Not overly sweet, and not heavy (it's very light actually!). The ambiance is very retro and cozy - it was a good place to hang out and chat with friends. I love that it closes at 10PM as it can be tough to get baked goods late in the day. They have an expansive and unique variety of flavors, including many Filipino type flavors. I had the carrot cake and purple velvet cupcakes. Both yummy in their own way! I look forward to coming back and trying more. The slices of cake looked great too. read more

Jennivee's Bakery has the vibe I have been longing for. It takes me back to the 1980s when my aunt and I would walk around Lakeview and Lincoln Park, stopping in cafes and little shops with pretty storefronts: so much charm and friendly service. They serve cupcakes, cakes, muffins, etc. I got the lemon cupcake and it was beautiful on the outside and so tasty. The frosting was perfect and there was a cute little lemon decor on the cupcake. The service was quick and the lady taking order was kind. The decor was so pretty and this bakery is very including and welcoming with many LGBTQ+ decor. The bathroom is so cute. Let me start off by saying that the ratings for this bakery did not live up to the standards. Coffee was just okay could have made what they made me at home. The cupcake was not very flavorful neither was the chocolate Cake it was supposed to have chocolate pudding in the middle but just regular icing. We stopped in on Saturday afternoon. The ambiance is cute and inviting. I was disappointed to find such a limited selection, mostly cupcakes and cake slices. I was hoping for some French pastries. We did have a slice of the Bailey's Irish Cream Cake and a chocolate mint cupcake. I found the Bailey's cake to be very delicious -----moist chocolate cake and a light filling of frosting. The cake wasn't overly sweet which is a plus. The cupcake was flavorful but was just a basic cupcake, cake and frosting. If the cupcake had had a filling, that would have been a real treat! The staff was friendly and efficient. We will be back since the bakery is so close to Wrigley Field. Hopefully, we'll get to try some other pastries. read more

Their cute dessert shop is located in Lakeview where street parking was easy to find. They are known for their delicious cakes and cupcakes. ordered a custom gender reveal 8" cake and worked with Gabriella via email. the ordering and pick-up process was smooth. we had provided some inspo pics and the cake turned out just how we wanted! the buttermilk frosting was delicious and the cake itself was light and fluffy. the flavor was vanilla. docking a star because we were upset that there was no writing on the cake even though we had requested it and specified what it should say. read more

Jennivee's cupcakes never disappoint! They are an LGBTQ+ owned bakery with a wide range of fun cupcake flavors, such as ube, matcha cherry, lemon, chocolate tres leches, berry, and more. They have a gluten free and a vegan option as well. I ordered the ube and the matcha this time. The ube was my favorite! The flavor came through well, the frosting was buttery and light, and there was coconut in the middle. There is no indoor seating at Jennivee's but they have some outdoor seating at their patio on Sheffield. It's hard to walk by Jennivee's and not stop in for a cupcake (or two)! read more

Service was great and bakery very clean. There is parking on the street. The cake slices are very yummy but very expensive. The cupcakes I've purchased the last couple of times were dry. I will go back for the cake to treat myself but sparingly. read more

Does the new location have parking?

There is no "official" parking, but there is good street parking right in front. I have never had a problem finding a parking space. That said, you will have to pay for the parking with the Chicago Parking app.

Are they open for dine-in?

yes and no. They do have a little seating area you can eat your cakes. During warmer days they also have a patio set up outside. Their cakes do taste exponentially better if you give it a few minutes to rest to room temp, so I recommend taking it to…

Cash is king so I think, if not, I'm sure they will accept your cash. Whether they will have change or not is the question haha. So better bring exact change or tip your change :)

I had high hopes for this bakery, my experience fell short due to the level of customer service. I understand that the focus here is more on the food than the beverages, and I also recognize that everyone can have an off day. I ordered two pastries and the blue matcha latte. While the pastries were enjoyable, the latte lacked flavor and tasted more like colored milk, which was disappointing given the $12 price point (including tax). I asked the cashier if it would be possible to switch to a regular matcha, hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately, the second drink was just as underwhelming. What surprised me most was the dismissive and unprofessional attitude of the staff member, which left a lasting negative impression. This place makes awesome sweets; cakes, cupcakes, brownies, bars. I ordered a custom cake for a birthday which turned out absolutely scrumptious. I knew the specific batter flavor I wanted (which is very hard to find in Chicago) but left the icing up recommendation up to Jennivee's. They obviously know which icing types and flavors and compliment the batter best! While I was picking up the cake the cupcakes in the display window looked irresistible...so I bought one for the ride home. It was terrific, moist, flavorful, yummy. Last minute change my mind, I decided I wanted a cake for my birthday, usually I get an ube cake at another location. So I decided to go to this lactation that was recommended. Big mistake they had a selection of different cake in the display case, but they refused to sell me any because, they require a one day advance order. Jennivee's, located in the Lakeview area, has quickly become my favorite bakery near me! While it tends to be a bit on the expensive side and stays open late, the unique flavors and impeccable presentation make it worth it. The Ube Purple Velvet and Mango Cream cake impressed with their moistness and great flavor, but the real star for me was the hummingbird cupcake - absolutely delicious! One of my go-to delivery spots whenever I'm in Chicago and have a cupcake craving (i.e., always). I LOVE Jennivee's There are a few flavors that are staples on the menu (e.g. purple velvet, tres leches) but you won't be surprised to see some fun seasonal additions once in a while as well. On my first trip here we were greeted by friendly staff who were smiling and greeted us merrily. I had slice of red velvet cake which was absolutely huge. The feuilletine was crisp, delicate, and buttery and perfectly balanced out the creaminess of the hazelnut praline and chocolate. Pistachio Escargot 5/5* So flaky and crispy. The lamination on this pastry is unreal. So many layers. Desi Valour 4/5* Wow you can really taste the cardamom. It was an interesting mix of flavors. The carrots were so caramelized it was almost like a fruit chutney. You would never have known it was carrots. Saffron rice crisp at the bottom was really hard to cute through with a plastic knife, but Passionfruit Ricotta Cake Slice 4/5* Eaten immediately at the cafe, it was cold and so refreshing, light, and perfect summer flavors. The passion fruit was tart, and Butterbean smooth, fluffy, and not overwhelmingly sweet. When eaten later though, it somehow tasted way too sweet. There is a reason Verzenay is rated so high. Beautiful presentation, decadent flavors, and perfect indulgence on a nice sunny afternoon.
