From start to finish, JennyWenny was amazing. They were a bit pricier than a few other bakeries we had reached out to for our vow renewal. However, we liked their cake flavors and options the best. We did a 4 tiered cake with an added on sheet cake. The 2 top tiers we did a vanilla cake with a strawberry filling, the rest was an Oreo type filling with vanilla cake. They also had a nice selection of other desserts but we opted to do those with our venue. But we did try some in our samples and they were delicious. It was really easy to get in contact with someone and upon visiting San Diego we were able to make an appt the week prior to when we came out in August 2023 to meet with various vendors. We opted to do a plain buttercream cake because we wanted cascading flowers. JennyWenny cakes do charge a small floral placement fee but it was only $25 and they did it very well. I was in awe when I walked into our ballroom and saw the cake. It tasted just as good as our tasting. I wish I was able to save a piece for our anniversary but will def reach out at our one year mark and see if they can do a sort of anniversary cake when we are in town. I don't live in San Diego but we recently got married there! I was looking for bakery that could do a small vegan wedding cake as my husband is allergic to dairy. Now I am not a sweets eater and can usually do without dessert, but our vegan banana chocolate chip cake was incredible! They also created a few various sheet cakes for our non vegan guests and we walked away with barely any left because all the cakes were such a huge hit. They were so easy and professional to work with, pleasant, efficient, and kind! I highly recommend! read more

Extremely delicious!!! My friend had a party for his girlfriend (it was such a blast!!!) One of her friends recommended JennyWenny cakes. Got this addicting cake pops, decadent mini cupcakes, and creamsicle flavor flamingo cake. Everyone at the party loved all the sweets and we were talking about it. Everything was eatable too. We had JennyWennyCakes cater mini desserts for our wedding reception and our guests absolutely loved it! I wanted a mini dessert bar over a wedding cake because I wanted guests to be able to choose what desserts they wanted and I didn't want any cake to be wasted. I ordered the mini dessert tasting box and had a consultation with one of the employees. At first, I thought the desserts were quite small, but given our event had appetizers and a multi-course dinner I felt it was an appropriate size. We had around 180 guests and allocated 2.5 mini desserts per person. We thought this would be enough since majority of our guests were older adults who do not eat sweets. However, on the day of, the desserts were finished quickly because we had about ~10 kids that took way more than 2.5 each. So I would recommend adding a bit more if you plan to have kids at your event! The flavors we ordered were: Mini Cupcakes Red Velvet Mini Cupcakes- 5 Hazelnut Almond Mini Cupcakes - 5 dozen Berry Macarons - 2 Pistacio Macarons - 2 dozen Passionfruit tarts - 6 dozen Fruit tarts - 6 dozen Tiramisu dessert cups - 5 dozen Tres Leches - 5 dozen Vanilla vegan cake cups - 4 dozen We added delivery, set up, and dessert stand rental to our contract for an additional fee. I also provided my own menu signs which they helped set up. Everything went smoothly the day of and the dessert station looked beautiful all laid out! My wedding coordinator packed up the dessert stand rentals in the same crate the night of and I returned them to JennyWennyCakes the week after. Overall, the guests loved the dessert bar and I would definitely recommend JennyWennyCakes! read more

From the tasting to finalizing everything, they were very easy to work with. I had to make multiple changes to the desserts and had no issues doing so. JennyWenny provided desserts and cake for my wedding this past January and I highly recommend them as a dessert vendor! From the tasting to the execution day of, I was extremely happy with their services. The two standout moments that made me really appreciate their service were: 1. I really wanted a 'not too sweet' cake combination and they worked with me and suggested the following combination: Vanilla cake/Fresh fruit + Lemon curd + Diplomat cream/Vanilla BC which I and my guests loved. 2. They helped me figure out servings and other fine details that I wouldn't know when ordering desserts for such a big event. Some other things I appreciated: making my Husband and I a box of desserts for later since we definitely did not have time to try our desserts day of, rentable displays, and then an easy return process for the rentable displays (they provided a box) Big thanks again to the JennyWenny Crew! read more

Jenny Wenny supplied the dessert bar and 6" single tier wedding cake for our wedding. They had a great variety and selection of mini desserts for the dessert bar (even a unique crème brûlée option that was a hit with our guests). The staff was very helpful in making suggestions for the selection the correct amount of each mini dessert type. We only were left with 5 mini cupcakes at the end of the night which shows how good the staff are at estimating the dessert quantities. The staff were also great at explaining the delivery and setup process in their contract during the tasting. read more

The staff at JennyWenny Cakes is incredibly easy to work with and very responsive to any questions and concerns. They kept us updated throughout the process, and never left us feeling forgotten. The recommended cake flavors that they offer are unique, and/or you can mix and match the cake/fillings/buttercream. Their cakes and desserts are head and shoulders above the other tastings we did, which is why we chose this bakery, not to mention the affordability. Of note - this is a kitchen-only business, in a space shared with another bakery, and you must make appointments for tastings. They offer pick up/take out tastings which is very convenient. The cakes are rich, moist, and hold up extremely well even after the event! Not only did our wedding cake taste amazing, but it looked picture-perfect as well. The attention to detail is immaculate. They don't pay attention to detail and the girl that was supposed to help is with the cake was bland and not likable. She got my wedding date wrong and even had a little attitude when she asked about the reception, thought it was her place to give an opinion about how late my reception was. She didn't answer any of my questions and rushed it when we came in for the cake tasting. The cake wasn't even that great, and felt very dry. She also got the cakes wrong when she described which ones were which flavor. Awful. Definitely going for another company for my wedding cake. *it looks like I am not the only one if you read the one star reviews. The person that I had to deal with was Carleen. She is just awful. Jenny if you want to improve your business, you need to get rid of her. And maybe start improving your services in general. read more

We were recommended to Jenny Wenny by our wonderful wedding coordinator, Melissa from I Do Weddings and Events. Everyone at Jenny Wenny Cakes was amazing and very communicative from beginning to end. I appreciated the consistency and efficiency of our emails and that they made sure that our wedding coordinator was also in the loop. We got the vanilla cream/buttercream with berry jam filling, it was very light and heavenly!! We didn't want anything too sweet or heavy, especially for our wedding guests. After the wedding, we brought the rest of the cake home and accidentally forgot to put it in the fridge. But the next day it tasted even better! Everyone's on Covid-19 shut down throughout the state and nation... I am a huge proponent of small businesses and I applaud Eater San Diego for putting together a list of local businesses who are providing limited services during these scary and trying times. We live around the corner from JennyWenny Cakes and I can't count the number of times I came across this highly rated business.. but I never had an excuse to order extravagant sweets to give them a try (mostly my waistline doesn't allow for it). We were two weeks into lockdown .. with toddlers.. hubbie.. work from home with unforgiving conditions.. the stars aligned this day when I came across Jenny's facebook page and she was selling little treat boxes of deliciousness with COVID compliant trunk drop off (basically you venmo her, drive up, and she'll drop the heavenly treat box into your trunk so you can get on your way without contact.) She is the most delightful woman too. Very kind and great communication even during all that is going on.. For $18 bucks, I scored a little box of nibbles that included samplings of: * Snickerdoodle cookie: I have a soft spot (and soft belly) for snickerdoodles. DELICIOUS. Chewy and yummy.. I couldn't get out of the car before scarfing this one down. (Fellow parents will know that you cannot open a box of treats in a house with toddlers.. just imagine me in my dark garage taking a peek into the box like a kid opening a christmas gift found in the dark closet..) * Pecan wedding cookies: delicious light shortbread with toasty pecan bits.. lightly dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect.. airy.. not dense in the slightest bit *Lemon bars: my husband LOVES lemon bars.. these had the right amount of tang and sweetness and the crust was delightful. *Apple streusel bars: THESE were delicious. You can taste the fresh fruit and the kiddos thought they were delightful apple pie bites and were begging for more. * World peace cookie, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Marble Cake Pops: looked delicious. I passed this to a chocolate loving friend for her bday. The cake pops were SO beautiful. Little globes of artistic beauty. I recommend just on presentation alone. Thanks to JennyWenny for bringing a little box of delight and sweet smiles during these tough times. I HIGHLY recommend just based off the sampling I had. Everything was very well balanced in terms of texture and sweetness.. nothing was too sweet.. and my mouth still waters with memories of the long empty box. If this COVID crazy keeps up.. I fear I may be ordered a box of cupcakes to eat my closet at night... We used JennyWenny for our wedding and it was a hit! We decided to do a dessert table instead of cake and all the treats were so tasty. In fact everything was so good there were no leftovers at the end of the night! We had the chocolate chip cookies, tiramisu cups, berry cheesecake cups, eclairs, s'mores tart, and brownie bites. The planning process was smooth - the team was responsive in communications and helped answer a lot of questions. The tasting is at home (you just pick up a box from their bakery) and that was actually kind of nice as we were able to have a nice dessert night at home. The price was a touch more expensive than some other bakeries we looked at, but JennyWenny was by far the tastiest and worth every penny! read more

We had our wedding cake made by Jenny's team and it was everything we wanted and more. The design of the cake was executed just as I had envisioned - very minimal with some textured ridges throughout and some of our floral arrangement on top. The cake itself was three different layers, each with it own unique flavor profile. It was nice to have such a large variety of options to choose from because I have some very particular family members that love fruit filled while my husband and I are all about the chocolate. I received rave reviews from numerous guests on all the different cake layers. Something I think is critical to a good piece of cake is being sweet without overwhelming. Jenny Wenny does this so well. Incredible flavor, richness, but not too heavy. The service from their team was also exceptional. We had to move our wedding date due to a family health issue and they were so understanding and flexible. They were also great on follow ups and helping keep me organized with the hundred other things on my to do list. read more

JennyWenny provided our wedding cake and dessert bar treats for our recent wedding and we're so glad we chose JennyWenny!!! We absolutely loved the cake flavors and dessert bar items at our tasting, and was such a fun experience to take the mini dessert tasting box home and try various items. We compared to another local company and were so glad we chose JennyWenny - the cakes were moist and flavorful. No major issues with communication in the months leading up to the wedding. We had JennyWenny & team deliver and set up the cake and desserts - would absolutely choose delivery again. We used rental stands from JennyWenny for an additional fee which was fine, didn't have to worry about purchasing several stands, but return back to JW was a bit tricky with us going on our honeymoon after, but all worked out. We had extra desserts leftover and I wish we had a specific box for us to take home but that's okay since we also had a small heart shaped vintage cake made for us which was AWESOME! One of the highlights of the night! :) Loved the chocolate and strawberry cake and for dessert bar we chose the graham cracker crust tart with caramel & chocolate ganache, berry cheesecake cups, and chocolate mousse cups. So good! We used a vegan bakery for a smaller amount of vegan/gluten-free items. Would definitely recommend JennyWenny cakes!!! read more

They were able to accommodate what we were looking for, and the general list of flavors and cake types helped us narrow down our initially vague idea. We have used Jenny Wenny Cakes for several large events at our company. Once for customized cupcakes that were amazing and, most recently, they made 150 heart-shaped sugar cookies for a cookie decorating event we had on Valentine's Day. They also provided the icing and tips for our employees to use and some super cute little decorative candies to put on the cookies. They are so easy to work with and make the most delicious goodies. I connected with JennyWenny Cakes when I wanted to order a cake for a friends 50th birthday - and it turned out perfectly! The cake looked and tasted amazing. The process to create the cake was very easy. I shared a Pinterest link with the colors and designs I had in mind, and we quickly settled on the size of the cake, colors, etc. They conveniently offered to include a cake topper for an additional cost, but I ended up getting one on my own later since I was unsure if I wanted one during the ordering process. We are so thrilled we went with Jenny for our wedding! From start to finish it was an absolute joy. Dessert tasting introduced us to cakes we never knew about--like Hummingbird cake, which we liked so much we made our biggest tier! We actually got the tasting box as a to-go box and made an afternoon of it at one of our favorite wineries (Altipiano -- check them out too!). The hardest part by far was narrowing down the selection, but we could not have been happier with our desserts day-of. We had a gorgeous (see photos!) and delicious cake with elegant finishing touches in partnership with our florist, and an array of desserts that left every guest with a smile, compliments to our bakers, and a sugar high! The desserts and set up for our table were beyond our expectations. The variety of choices were exactly what we dreamed of, and the flavors were spectacular. Our wedding cake went above and beyond our dreams and they captured our vision perfectly by adding in our pets. The best wedding cake! Jenny and team were so wonderful and welcoming from the beginning. We did our cake/dessert tasting and were very pleased with the cake flavor we put together. A few weeks before the wedding, we asked to add a few desserts and this was accommodated as well. The design we wanted for the cake was exactly what was delivered. It was beautiful! My husband and I knew we created a great tasting cake, but we didn't realize how much our guests would love it too! We didn't expect so many people to say that they were hunting down uneaten pieces set aside for other guests ;) Jennywennycakes is highly recommended and we will be returning customers in the future! read more

So when my hubby and I started dating, I told him I was going to dress him up as Han Solo for ComicCon because I dressed up as Leia. Fast forward, we get engaged, I tell him I want a loosely based Star Wars wedding, he says he doesn't want it to look like a six year olds birthday party. Can do! This cake is the embodiment of my vision. Classy and nerdy and beautiful and impressive. "Most impressive!" The detail and deftness of hand that sculpted this cake can not be denied. The crafting to get this behemoth to stand up and not collapse in August temperature was incredible. When I saw it for the first time my jaw dropped. THIS is why you don't skimp out on the cake! THIS is a work of art, a freaking delicious masterpiece! The cake tasting my then-fiancé did back in early March was fun, and the finished product was better than I could have hoped. I originally picked this place because they have some great looking cakes, but I was in love with the work they did on a Minas Tirith cake another couple posted. Jenny Wenny Cakes went above and beyond our expectations to make our wedding cake spectacular! Before the wedding, we sent a picture for inspiration for the design and they were absolutely on point! We also had tastings beforehand with a various selection of flavors of cake/frostings/fillings that were all delicious. Everyone at the wedding was raving about how delicious the cake was! We chose the chocolate cake with caramel and chocolate mousse, Swiss meringue buttercream frosting. read more

My experience with JennyWenny Cakes was amazing. I ordered my 50th birthday cake a few months in advance. I shared inspo photos but wanted Jenny and her team to bring their creativity to design a most gorgeous and delicious cake. It was divine! It was absolutely breathtaking aesthetically and beyond moist and flavorful. I went with a coconut cake with a passion fruit purée and cream filling, with chocolate ganache. Here are a few photos! Highly recommend. The cake was pricier than I expected, given I order decadent, gorgeous designs every year, from other bakeries, but it was so worth it. We specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes and desserts to order. We usually require a minimum of 2-3 weeks notice to place an order. We love making wedding, party, baby shower and any special occasion cakes. We have no cakes or desserts ready for pickup on-site without an order, please make an appointment before you come in to make sure we're available. If you look at our 'menu' link, we may have some items available for pickup sooner to our square store.

Meet the Business Owner: Jenny W.

Jenny is by training a Medicinal Chemist with a science background. Learning from an early age in her mother's kitchen in England, she has always loved to bake treats, and after moving to the United States she was missing a taste from home, and looking for a creative outlet, so started creating delicious cakes for her friends. After learning pastry arts from James Foran at Grossmont College , Jenny quickly found cakes were a passion and took lessons with cake artists such as Elise Strauss, Jaqueline Butler (petalsweet cakes) and Lauren Kitchens, to create cakes that she hoped would be as great to look at as they taste.

The decor and tables definitely gives you an old school Italian neighborhood vibe with Italian markets right next door. The Banana 53 had a luxurious banana foam with toffee bits. Nice balance of earthy, creamy, touch of sweetness, and different textures in the drink. For the double matcha the matcha foam is super fluffy and creamy. Matcha on matcha was what I needed to fuel my soul. The pistachio was a dream. Rich, nutty, velvety, and creamy. I keep saying I will try their coffee next time but I am a sucker for matcha that's for sure.

I enjoyed the curry hamburg, and it was a big portion that filled me up quick. We also shared the beignets and it came with black sesame/matcha dip. They were light and fluffy and paired well with the dips. Best eaten fresh as they cool down pretty quick. For drinks, I got the Matcha Tiramisu Latte and Matcha Yuzu Mimosa. The latte was more matcha. I didn't really taste any tiramisu in my drink, but the matcha was good. It definitely is on the low sweet. The mimosa was good as well. At first, wasn't sure if the flavor would pair well as a mimosa, but it was good! The matcha and yuzu blend well. Someone else had a yuzu mimosa, but it too sour for my taste. The yuzu with the matcha definitely helps reduce the citrus sour taste. Service was friendly and fast. Since it was a busy Sunday, they already explained in advance that food might take longer to come out, but it didn't feel very long. When I went, we had a live musician playing. Personally for me, it was a bit loud, so it was hard to hear everyone at my table. But, Im sure other people appreciated and enjoyed the live music. I just prefer quieter environments, and that's my personal taste. I would be willing to come back for a special occasion again.

Jenny Wenny is absolutely fantastic. Our wedding cake, despite being over a year and a half ago, is still the talk of our family and friends. They crafted a stunning vegan cake with various flavors for each layer, perfectly aligning with our dinosaur-themed wedding. The cake not only supported dinosaur figurines but was a delicious blend of lemony goodness and different jams between layers. The bottom layer, a chocolate delight with berry jam, was a hit! Sadly, due to the guests loving it so much, my husband and I missed out entirely! The wedding coordinator couldn't save us a slice as everyone had seconds in a flash. It was heartbreaking for us; all we wanted was a bite of that incredible cake. However, my birthday became extra special when my mom surprised me with a mini cake and cake-shots from Jenny Wenny. Absolutely delicious desserts. I had ordered the lemon, berry and pecan walnut bars, the dessert cups in Tiramisu and crème bole and the butter toffee I believe, I am not sure. What I do know is it was all FANTASTIC. I am a baker too and these desserts are the BEST. I had left overs and froze them all. Still great weeks later! The Lemon bars are the best! These are great for parties, baby showers, company is coming or in my case a celebration of life. They where a lovely treat for all and a now to be tradition for future events of all types. I reached out to Jenny with only a few days before my husband's birthday and let her know I was looking for a custom cake in the shape of a "hot sauce" bottle. She made it very easy and within about 30 minutes I was sent an invoice via e-mail and paid for everything up front. I was able to send her some reference photos so she knew exactly what we were looking for and I have to say, the cake was even better than we had expected and my husband was super excited when we brought it out to him. Since I do not live in San Diego, but was having my baby's first birthday party held there, I searched for bakeries online. Hands down, Jenny had the best reviews. I was also very impressed with the pictures of her work...not your typical grocery store cakes or fondant cakes. I decided to hire her for my event, and so glad I did.
