I found Treat Confectionary randomly during the height of the pandemic in 2020. I no longer live in San Diego but come to visit family, and needed a 70th birthday cake. Mandy made the MOST delicious cake we've ever had: Black Forest with chocolate ganache. The entire family loved it. Now every time I come to town to celebrate my dad's birthday, I order from Mandy and am continuously pleased. My most recent order was May 2025. Mandy has done 4 cakes for me and knocks it out of the park every single time. She has done a unicorn cake, a frozen inspired cake, a dodger baseball cake and will be doing a Taylor Swift inspired cake for my daughter's birthday. We are so excited to have found our official family celebration cake artist. Our son wanted a Spinosaurus/Jurassic Park themed cake and Mandy did an outstanding job bringing his vision to life in a beautiful and delicious cake. We chose a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh strawberry and whipped cream filling. The design of the cake was so great we all hesitated to cut it but the flavor is what takes Mandy's cakes over the top. It was fresh and moist and not too sweet. Working with Mandy is just as great as the product she makes. She was professional, quick to respond, and very helpful. Once again, Yelp saves the day!!! When I learnt that one of my guests at a dinner party that I was hosting was celebrating her birthday, I needed a birthday cake at pretty short notice. I reached out to Mandy via phone and she promptly returned my voicemail and I was so happy to note she was available to accommodate my request. She replied to all my inquiries courteously, on time and made sure we both were on the same page every step of the way. Since the birthday girl is a bonafide chocoholic, I chose the Chocolate Lover's Mirror Glaze cake from Mandy's gallery- a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, with a special request that it be completely nut-free. On the day of party, I was delighted to pick up a stunning cake that simply wowed both the birthday girl and all my guests! And once everyone started digging, they couldn't stop gushing over how delicious it tasted. Mandy was fantastic to work with. I wanted a tornado cake for my son's birthday and she was very responsive and enthusiastic about the ideas we discussed. The design was perfect (we ended up going with cupcakes) - but the best part was the taste. I'm not sure if it's high quality ingredients or she has some sort of magic kitchen, but those were some of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Delicious. Not too sweet and great flavor. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mandy! I made an order for cookies and cupcakes to be sent to my husbands fire station on the day before Valentine's Day and she exceeded my expectations. The guys said everything was absolutely delicious and the cupcakes were beautiful. She also delivered which was awesome. When she got to the station the guys were on a call and I didn't see her email until later (to give her an access code). When I was a little girl, every birthday at my house was about one thing, the amazing birthday cake that my mom would surprise us with, creating beautiful and fun works of art out of cake, chocolate and icing. The latte was good, and my friend bought a kitchen sink type cookie with chocolate, coconut, and macadamia nuts. It was warm and gooey good! Another friend tried the gelato and said it was very good. There are a few tables inside and tables out in front outside. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful San Diego weather. The decor and tables definitely gives you an old school Italian neighborhood vibe with Italian markets right next door. If I am in the neighborhood again, I would definitely come back here to try the gelato and/or a piece of an excellent looking lemon pie bar I spotted.

We had the Beignets (5 for $12) to share, and I ordered the Curry Hamburg ($20), a Black Sesame Latte ($7) w/ a shot of Matcha (+$2), and a Matcha Yuzu Mimosa ($13) for myself. The beignets, perfectly shared between the 5 of us, were a bit too dense and possessed a weirdly hard outer crust. The matcha cream and black sesame mascarpone serving as dips made them a little more enjoyable. The black sesame latte was deliciously nutty, but the matcha shot at the $2 up charge was exorbitant. (Note: This is their only caffeine addition -- along with hojicha -- as they do not have an espresso machine). I was very disappointing in the Curry Hamburg, unfortunately. This was a failed attempt at omurice. The egg, while plentiful, was not even seasoned. Further, the equally unseasoned hamburger patty was very dry and the sauce over-salty. They should have distributed the salt and seasoning throughout the dish because it lacked serious balance. They just added beer and mimosas, so the Matcha Yuzu Mimosa, though overkill with the Matcha (and likely wasted), did ease the ache some. I made reservations online via OpenTable where I had to put a credit card down and agree to the seemingly shady policy regarding party changes within a 24 hour period. We were seated immediately, but they gave us a table with some weird wooden fold-up chairs. Our table was strangely the only one with these uncomfortable chairs. It was also excessively loud and we almost didn't learn the name of our server, who, by the way, was PHENOMENAL despite some of the disappointment with the food! Thank you (Mick) Jagger for taking care of us and getting our food out to us so quickly!

I helped give a bridal shower. We chose to try the cupcakes from Treat Confectionery. Mandy was very easy to work with, and she helped me decide on which decorative cupcake to use.. We chose some with chocolate batter and some with vanilla batter. Then, Mandy decorated them with pearls and colored sprinkles around the sides. Each cupcake had something different on top of a ganache chocolate icing. Some said "Love;" some said "Mwah;" some showed "XOXO;" etc. The cupcakes looked adorable, and even better, was that they tasted absolutely delicious! Mandy sends these off in boxes with holes into which she sets each cupcake. This way, they won't roll around and bump into one another during transport, smearing the icing. Our guests were thrilled with their desserts. I will definitely be using Treat Confectionery again. My only complaint is that the website shows SO MANY beautiful choices that it's hard to decide what to get!!! read more

I called to place an order about 48 hours in advance (yikes!) but she said it was no problem! The chocolate cupcakes were very decadent and the frosting was strawberry! Not vanilla dyed pink! Such high quality, delicious morsels! And Mandy was so sweet! She asked me if I wanted to add fondant flowers for decoration since she had some left over--for free! It's certainly a weird and disappointing time to be pregnant, as there is so much uncertainty and he is not really able to be involved by coming to doctor's appointments with me. We still wanted to find a fun way to celebrate our pregnancy and reveal the gender. Our local go-to bakery was closed, but luckily for us, Got Sweetz was still taking orders. Rachelle was super professional and a pleasure to work with. Communication was easy and prompt, and the cake was both beautiful and delicious.
