A little more than a year ago was my last venture into Jeremy's Ale House where I had a meal that tempted me to reach for that fifth Yelp star but it fell just a tad short (oh clam chowder, if only you were a little creamier). Between then and now I've dined at plenty of seafood spots and had my fair share of not-so-good nautical noshes. Beyond that, watching Woodcleft Ave locations close up shop and checking others out on Yelp to constantly find 3 stars and below on most review averages left me realizing just how awesome Jeremy's Ale House really is (creamy chowder or not). Yes, it looks like a run down cottage. Yes, you have to place your order at the bar. Yes, everything about the joint just screams divey and grungy and greasy...and yet, it's just a better meal than most other Nautical Mile restaurants. My revisit and reason for the update came several weeks ago on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I dined with my buddy as we ordered a couple of seafood platters (your choice of three different fried favorites) and an order of fried zucchini sticks. I went with beer battered scallops, calamari, and clam strips. He followed suit on two out of three, but switched the scallops for Cajun shrimp. Seriously man. How does one give you so much tender, tasty seafood for such a great price? A deal with the devil perhaps? Each item was truly, delightfully delicious. I found new favorites in the puffy, flavorful scallops and the one spicy Cajun shrimp I snagged from my buddy. A bed of fries under all this seafood love and some slaw gave way to complementary flavors. Oh and the zucchini? Light and flavorful adding some much-needed vegetable to the lunch (slaw kind of counts). Washing it down with a Jeremy's Ale just rounded out the meal so well. So let's try this again. Yes, Jeremy's doesn't look so hot. But you know what's also a yes? Yes, you can eat outside, right by the water (or near the mile if you choose). Yes, there's plenty of alcohol to be had (beer and mixed drinks in pints or quarts). Yes, you'll pay $14 for a fried seafood platter (and not much more for many items on the menu). Yes, your platter will be of impressive size. Yes, you'll love every morsel of it, especially when you grab a giant container of tarter sauce out of the fridge. Yes people! YES! Overall, don't walk by Jeremy's and turn your nose up at them just because it's not some fancy, napkin-folding seafood spot. Enter in and enjoy a meal you'll actually appreciate on the mile instead of one that'll have you writing a 2 star review soon after. Jeremy's, you rock. You friggin' do. And until my five senses tell me otherwise, you're number one on the mile. Consider me ready to return quicker (much quicker) than a year's time. Out of all the spots on the nautical mile this now one is my favorites. It was highly recommended by one of the other proprietors on the nautical mile It may not look like the classiest spot from the outside compared to the rest of them but once you get inside the food is delicious and the prices are right When you walk in they give you a menu you pick out what you want to eat and drink and then you go to the counter and put in your order they give you a number to put on your table and they deliver your food when it's ready Everyone working there is friendly and helpful and the place just seems that have a homie atmosphere and the beautiful view of the canal when you're sitting out on the balcony read more

Very well made, and seasoned. Excellent. Service: Not a fan of the service method. But it is what it is: you order at the bar and staff bring it out to you. This wouldn't be a bad system if you didn't have to squeeze in between patrons seated at the bar. That being said, this is not a make/break issue. If I lived nearby, I suspect I'd be frequenting this place for take out. Layout. Excellent outdoor seating and indoor seating is well spaced out. Loved eating out on the water, on a nice summer day. They offer their dishes other ways, but I tried their fried and loved it. Make sure you try the fried shrimp, Mac n cheese bites and their zucchini fries. You will not be disappointed. Very disappointed lately. Used to have good chicken tenders (made from real chicken cutlets) they just switched to the frozen premade kind.Their waffle fries are good but you have to ask for them or you get regular French fries. I had a cheeseburger after being informed they changed their chicken tenders I opted for the cheeseburger. Very disappointed because basically they burn it. I asked for medium on 2 different occasions they burnt both the cheeseburgers. Watched people ordering all got burnt cheeseburgers. People were eating that like me. Slow because it's horrible. I can't stand charbroiled food. All I taste is the charbroil aka burnt food. They need to prepare food with care and not overcook it. My visit was during lunch (time) on a warm winter's day (oxymoron this is not because it was as warm as a woman's first hot flash on 22nd Feb. 2 0 1 6). While perusing Nautical Mile for somewhere to grab a bite we steered our boat into this bay. As you walk into Jeremy's it lends an air of "fishing village". It's almost as if you're on a beach awaiting the seine to be pulled in for the fisherman/chef to grill his fresh catch right there on in front of you. The food tasted just as nice as I expected even though I got all fried everything; Calamari, shrimp and clam strips. The shrimp taco (my first) I started with was very tasty, they made a fan out of me. Great suggestion barman! The barman, lone member of staff I interacted with was pleasant, patient and helpful. If you prefer sparkling clean tables turn away, this isn't the spot for you. If you need host and waitress service, no no no no way! Not here. VERY reasonably priced, good food, pleasant staff and patrons, nice 80s music from a radio station playing softly in the background, ocean view, cold beers you like that huh? Then come thru'! I absolutely adore this spot! But then when you say dive, I ask how deep? There's something about dive spots I mesh with so well. I love the realness. Ok, so my check in alluded to the nasty smokers in the vicinity on the patio... heavy sigh. Between the cigarettes, ecigs and the cigars (shop across the street) I was a little nasty and as a non-smoker, I took offense. Especially when there were families with little children who had to endure the smoke. Ok... that aside, I have to tell you, the food was pretty delicious. You order and pay inside- cafeteria style, and that goes for adult beverages too. You walk away with a number and shortly thereafter there is a young person perusing the patio for you with your order. My male companion had the veggie burger and stated it was pretty good; served with regular French fries. I opted for the grilled chicken salad a la balsamic on the side. Not for nothing... juiciest, most succulent chicken I've ever tasted. Served on a bed of mescaline greens... it was awesome. We had the Jeremy's Chips which was a whole spud spun on one of those devices that warranted thin, crisps of sinful deliciousness. We dipped in the ranch sauce and nearly took up Smoking ourselves. OMG! not one for fried foods but I indulged and can honestly say... for a "dive bar" vibe - incredibly impressed. Freeport's Nautical Mile comes with a lovely view of Freeport's Inlet. All food and drinks are ordered and paid at the bar prior to attaining a table. Finally a nautical restaurant/bar where New England Clam Chowder soup exist!! Utensils and dinner ware are plastic. With a friend, who is no stranger to Freeport, we ventured to Jeremy's Ale House East for a small shared meal without consulting to Yelp. Price is very reasonable for New England Clam Chowder at $4.95 and Onion Rings at $3.95 which are Beer Batter but as sensitive to the distaste of beer, surprisingly I do not taste the beer. The soup was very flavor-able and savory. Both the soup and onion rings were served hell spawn piping hot direct from the kitchen which slightly burnt my mouth and hands. The inside bar and dinning room is very dark and dingy comprising all elements of a typical American pub. The outdoor deck is somewhat spacious and garners a lovely view. Did we make a huge mistake last night?Headed to Freeport after biking on the boardwalk in Long Beach only to find that it was the end of the Nautical Mile Festival. I was so inclined to turn around and. Go home but Lisa E was set on returning to Jeremy's for grilled calamari. Jeremy's is truly a dive,......not fresh (the canal smells infinitely better), certainly not immaculate, kinda grungy but of all the places on the Mile this is our go to. Grab a table out back where the air is fresher and the atmosphere is laid back (see pictures) Draft by the quart $6- $9, tender grilled tentacles and amazing chicharonn- crispy cubes of pork candy ( not on the printed menu). Lobster roll ehhh- too processed but edible at $8. Table next to us wee having an all fried fest- calamari, soft shell crabs and fish and devoured everything. After an unsatisfying dinner at another restaurant around here, J and I came to Jeremy's Ale House to wash down a subpar meal with a nice cold beer. You order all food and drinks at the bar and then go grab a sit. They have a couple of beers on tap (not as large a selection as their Seaport location) and a quart will cost you $8.75 (a quarter cheaper than Seaport - cha ching!) Anyway, we got our beers and went to sit al fresco. I think the deck goes all the around the back so you can sit overlooking the water? Gonna have to check it out next time. As we were drinking, we noticed that they have a full food menu. UGH - so much better than what's-it's-face we went to! We decided to come back another time to try the food. (They also have specials on the weekdays that seem like a good deal.) About an hour in, we started getting the munchies and got an order of steamers and their homemade chips. Again, you place your order at the bar, but they'll bring out the food to you. Delicious and delicious! It's definitely a must try. I'm craving it as I type this. I always get the fried calamari tentacles because those are the best pieces in calamari plates so why not have a whole entire order of it, and another fried seafood platter consisting of oysters and clam strips. Yes, it's a lot of fried stuff, and you'll probably feel a little disgusting afterward, but just wash it down with a pitcher of the many beers they offer. Two words: pretty mediocre in terms of food (the service itself is kind and fast, great job working through this pandemic!!). My first time here I got the fried combo and it was really oily, although it was good enough for me. As for the cajun shrimp, they are probably one of the few seasoned menu items. My second time I got the grilled combo and everything was pretty much flavorless. The seafood tasted as if it was just grabbed out of the water and grilled for ten seconds at most. The rice could have used some sazón Goya. Nothing had even a dash of salt, so I had to save this whole meal and making it edible by splattering it with ketchup. As for COVID-19 measures, some of the outdoor space felt really cramped and too closely uncomfortable. If you're into unseasoned food and close tables, you're in for a treat. read more

I don't drink but visited the place with friends. I ordered a glass of seltzer water which came in a 12 oz, plastic cup. There's no doubt about it, the contents strongly smelled of beer. Been coming here since it opened. Great family owned business that offers a relaxed place to eat. Whether it's in the winter with the family or outside for a Sunday funday with the boys. She got a large bowl for $9.99 and said they were delicious. I had the fried seafood assortment and I asked for shrimp, scallops, calamari and they came with fries. All were very good specially the scallops. It was more than I could eat and about $15. They had an extensive variety of beers and ales. My daughter had a cider which was very good. I haven't been here in quite a while, but decided to come back when one of my friends was having a craving for their chicharrones. Jeremy's isn't anything fancy, but the food and the service is pretty spot on. I used to come here strictly for the fried seafood, but I also was interested in trying the chicharrones since my friend swore that it was probably the best ones he ever had. So I decided to order my usual of Jeremy's Combo (choice of three seafoods) and a order of chicharrones. The chicharrones were perfectly fried by having a crispy outside and a flavorful soft inside. They were served with lemon slices, but in my opinion, it wasn't needed. Out of the seafood my favorites were the fried oysters and the beer batter fried scallops. I asked the guy at the register which batter was better and he was right about the beer batter. The beer batter had a smoother crust that was much lighter than the regular batter. The register at the bar opens a tab for you when you order and you pay after you eat at the bar. During the warmer months you can sit outside on the side or back deck in addition to indoor seating. Eh, not our type of place. Definitely more of a bar with food than actual restaurant. Seat yourself and order at the bar. Fine. Except they keep the menus at the bar so if people aren't too bright, they'll stand there for ages deciding what they're getting while being in the way of people ready to order or pay (instead of going back to a table to decide). There's no method to the madness at the bar area, though the guys behind it were super nice. When we went in, the dining room was filthy- every table was crumby or smeared with stuff and some chairs had puddles. While we were eating two workers did come out and clean the tables off..but if you look around and pay attention you'll find that everything kind of looks grimy. Food wasn't bad. J got fried calamari, fried tilapia and fried shrimp in a basket with fries. The calamari was chewy but the breading was tasty. The other two were typical fried fare. My mussels were plain but fresh- a very decent portion of steamed mussels served with marinara and melted butter. Everything is served in disposable kitchen ware so you toss your own trash then go pay at the counter. Although the seafood seemed fresh, we wouldn't return. I feel like a place like Jeremy's was designed specifically for me. You walk in, there is a bar. Bras are staples to the walls and ceiling. Regulars are laughing and saluting all around. You place your order at the bar and they give you a sign with a # on it and you choose your own seat ( in our outdoors). They bring you your food. Most of their food is deliciously fried seafood (though I would never neglect their jalapeño poppers). We usually get a large mix of every fried thing you can fathom along with a bucket of steamers. The drinks are generous. A 'double' rum and coke is actually a 'double' and not pathetically watered down, and their tap beers are quite large. Yes! Probably one of the only place on the Mile with edible food. The joy is, that it is beyond edible, its really good. Majority fried foods, although many grilled options is available. The Manhattan Clam Chowder is great. I had a grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich and it was amazing. So amazing, I took it off the bun and ate it. The yellow rice is super bland, you can definitely do without. The mix drinks are a hit and they also have inexpensive drafts. Unpretentious, chill spot with many regulars. I was nearby and hungry for some seafood! I of course went on Yelp this place came up decided to give it a try. Definitely a hole in a wall nothing fancy here! Paper plates, cheap thin napkins but the food was great and cheap!! We had the beer battered shrimp which was good but the hit for me was the dry batter scallops so juicy! We ended up ordering another basket just with scallops because it was so good! We also had their chicharron which was yummy especially when you squirt on some lemon! Also tried their Mac and cheese bites I wasn't a fan I could really taste the Kraft Mac cheese! It was edible but would I order it again? No! On this rainy Sunday afternoon we had a taste for seafood, headed for the waterfront area of Freeport. There are a lot good seafood restaurant here. We selected Jeremys Ale House, it's been in the area for years and always has fresh seafood. There was a neighborhood bar type feeling but everyone was friendly and welcoming and the food was very very good we ordered the fried platter of shrimp, scallops and oysters all were delicious. also a bowl of the New England clam chowder it was great. The Mile's Best Kept Secret Bartender here is so down to earth, chill, Locals welcomed us like we were family and Everyone knew each other on a first name basis. My kinda place. We got great recommendations, trouncing a platter of fried seafood, fries and a lobster roll; I washed it down with a mighty gallon of blue moon original (their 'cups' are ginormous AND cheap!)
