I rolled it over to Central Bike and Mark checked everything out and got me fixed up and ready to roll in 15 minutes. Then he showed me how to inflate the tires if they get low. Don't know how this bike shop get good reviews. Maybe the service part of the business may claim to be good be the sales aspect of the business is atrocious. I was looking for a particular brand the sales person claimed it was a Dept store brand. Tried to bait and switch me for a more expensive bike, I didn't like the prices compared online so I asked him if I buy a bike online how much would it cost to assemble. Omg he quoted 70.00 cmon what the hell is going on here. I didn't mind u bait and switch but try to scam me for assembly cause I didn't buy a bike from you. Definitely won't ever come back even for service. I can get the same bike half price online and get assembled for 40.00. WARNING: Watch for a short Hispanic man. This shop is seriously the best bike shop (in both quality of work & customer care) I've ever been to (that's not hyperbole either, I've been to shops all over Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Oklahoma & Oregon & they are the best)! For the past 2 years they have always been straight up with me when came to things I needed (and didn't need), and when I did get something they did it with amazing craftsmanship for a fair price. Not a good experience. The first sales person tried to over sell me on the type of tune up I needed for my bike. When questioned, he couldn't justify the additional cost. The second sales person then jumped in and seemed knowledgeable. He recommend a few upgrades which I went for. When I came to pick up the bike, he had decided to add additional upgrades to the list and installed it on my bike without my prior consent. I then had to pay for the additional parts and labor as well for which I never agreed to. A few days of using the bike since the repairs and I am still not completely happy with it and I am out more $$$ than I initially had planned and hoped to spend on my bike. read more

I came in for a fork installation which would usually cost less than 50 bucks. but the guy on the register said my 1 inch fork doesn't fit my bike. So i went and bought a used fork from them for $70, as they where installing it i seen the mechanic bending the dropout back in place. at first i didn't mind it (which i regret) and I also bought a origin8 headset. all in all it cost me about $120. WAIT IT GETS BETTER, a couple of months later riding that fork i noticed the crack on the same drop out that was being bent back to place. i was very disappointed. Looking for a quick fix I tried putting on my old fork the one jersey cycle said "that didnt fit on my frame" turns out the headset i bought of them fit perfectly with the bike. meaning i could of saved my self 70-80 bucks if i didn't go to them. I came to this place originally because I searched on Yelp and read a good review. When I went to the shop, I was overwhelmed with how helpful and amazing Luca was. I wanted to buy a bike and didn't want to go to Amazon or shop online, because (1) I'm from the area and want to support local businesses, (2) wasn't sure how to assemble or measure myself for a proper bike. Luca took care of all of this for me. Got me a helmet and lock, the whole 9. I came here to get a basket for my bike. I wanted something wide enough for my dog. The owner talked me through two diff options, I picked one and left. Came back 2 hours later and my bike was ready to go. I paid a reasonable price. A few days later realized I really needed the other basket, the one that was much deeper. So I went back and the owner agreed to have his staff put the new basket on but when I arrived for pick up it wasn't ready. So I agreed to come back next day and when I did he offered to not charge me the difference in price. This is my second bike that I've purchased from Jersey Cycles and once more they did not disappoint. I worked with Luca who was able to size me up quickly and immediately recommended an amazing Marin mountain bike at an excellent price to replace the Fuji I had ridden daily in Hobokebn for about four years. Granted, I had the experience of working with Luca previously but I can say after visiting on and off for four years and buying my second bike from them, I would not want to go anywhere else. Beyond the excellent pricing, Luca is very friendly and accommodating, which is good considering how much of a nervous buyer I can be. He and his staff were kind enough to take components off my old bike and transfer it onto my new one which was a major plus to me. I can also say from the Fuji that their maintenance and care is top notch so don't worry about maintaining your investment. As a daily commuter, my bike is part of my life and its good to know that Luca and Jersey Cycles is out there helping me get to work. read more

These guys rock. Super knowledgeable and helpful in assisting my wife and I choosing a pair of mountain bikes. Not pushy or "sales-y" in any way. They just enjoy their job and the hobby and want to see people ride and have fun. They carry mostly Fuji, which are great value for the price. Highly recommend! Rode my bike all winter and stored it outside. This particular winter was devastating to my bike. I brought it in yesterday in hopes of using it as a bargaining chip to reduce the cost of a new bike. The guy seeing that I didn't want to spend a lot told me that they'd be able to get my bike up and running just as well as one of the new ones I tested. I picked it up 30 minutes ago, rode her home and can't believe its the same bike. Things that were broken on her: the saddle moved vertically up & down while riding, the brake wires were loose to a dangerous point, of the 15-speeds the back gears weren't working so I only had the front 3 speeds that also were questionable, the handle-bar tape was hanging on by zip-locks I placed on, the chain was completely rusted and let out a yelp with every peddle clearly from all the friction, and even with all that I rode it throughout the winter. Until 2 days when back-wheel spokes sprung out malforming the shape. I figured she was done for. Nope, all fixed, and riding better than the day I got her He even re-installed by bike lock bracket to its correct position in a much better spot for no reason other than they're awesome. This was my first visit and it's safe to say I'll be back! read more

These guys know probably know what they're talking about, however, I took my brand new bike there just wanting to get my tires filled and was met with passive aggressive condescending advice about how only a 'professional bike mechanic' knows best. Nah, there's tons of info online about how to assemble and maintain your bike. I wasn't claiming to be an expert but the owner was just talking down to me for no reason. This place is hands down the best bike shop in the JC area. I came here on the recommendation of my boy Dre, who lives nearby. I had a bike that had a bent rear wheel, and needed the gear shif adjusted. I took it to several other bike shops for quotes. They cheapest quote I got was $55, and the highest was $80. Keep in mind, this is not a very expensive bike. I walk into Jersey Cycles, explain my situation, and the owner grabs my bike. He puts it on the rack and spends about 10-15 minutes working on it. He takes it down, and says I'm good to go. I ask what the damage is, and he says "Don't worry about it." This guy literally just fixed my bike for free. What a great guy! I ended up purchasing a few small accessory items, which were all way cheaper than the bike shops on the bottom of the Palisades. I won't go anywhere else for any of my biking needs from now on. This place gets a lot of positive reviews, and it was one of the reasons I finally decided to give them a try. I'm not sure what happened, but my experience was far less than anticipated. This is a long one... I have a very nice road bike and do a lot of riding. One morning, a brifter broke during a workout. I brought it in for repair. Everyone seemed attentive and it was starting out to be a good experience. I had very specific requests (besides the new brifters) and I felt confident that they would take care of them. When i picked the bike up the first thing I noticed was that the inline tension adjuster for the front derailleur was missing. This had just been installed a couple of months earlier by another shop so I immediately wasn't too happy, but I let it go. The install looked good. I was warned that my brakes were adjusted, which I appreciated because they were VERY touchy. The problem was that when I rode standing up, they rubbed against the rim. An adjustment in the stand does not match an adjustment on the bike. OK, I readjusted my brakes as I left the shop and that was that. I'm almost home and I start to notice that the chain is skipping and not settling into specific gears. I decide that this is because it's new cabling (which came with the brifters, I was told) and they needed a little time. I felt I'd just bring it back to the shop in a couple of weeks and get a fine adjustment. I should have turned around and brought it back... In the next two weeks I suffered constant skipping of gears, the chain never settled into a gear and the new white bar tape that I was told would clean easily never really did (I bought the sales pitch instead of special ordering the tape that I knew was great). I decided to bring it back and have them look it over again because something was really wrong. I walk into the shop with the bike and one of the younger employees approaches to help and I explained that I had the bike in for repair and it's not shifting correctly as it was before I brought it into the shop. WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE BIKE, he says "well, you need a new chain and cassette". I then told him that they were replaced a month previous. Then one of the main mechanics puts the bike on the stand and states "when did you drop the bike?". This bike never hit the pavement, which would have been evident if he had looked at the bike. New bar tape that they put on, no scratches or dings. He tells me that the hanger is bent, and later it's mentioned that it was bent because the chain was too long (2 links). He then tells me that he'll call when it's done... He never did. I finally called at the end of the day and he tells me it's done. The next day I pick it up and it's as if they never touched it. It took two trips around the block for them to finally get it a little better than it was before I brought it in. I offered to the younger mechanic to take it for a ride, but he refused. I had heard a lot of great things about Cosmic Wheel in Ridgefield Park and decided I would take it in because I was fed up with ALL the shops in Jersey City. Here's what they found: 1. The internal cabling was crossed. This was the reason it was miss shifting, NOT the hanger. 2. All the cabling needed replacing. It's still unclear whether the cabling that came with the brifters was used or not, but it was clear that there was some fraying on the ends much like an older cable. 3. There was mixed cable housing. It was explained that different cables are different diameters and that by using the wrong housing there is unnecessary friction in the line causing issues with shifting and poor braking. I got my bike back quicker than expected and paid less than expected. Between the attitude, poor workmanship, bad sales pitch (chain/cassette), and possibly duping me on the cables, I won't even ride my bike NEAR Jersey Cycles again. Again, I see this is an odd review for this shop and they may be good at some things. AND, I may have caught them on a couple/few bad days, but from this moment on I will ALWAYS bring my bikes to Cosmic Wheel. read more

Small mom 'n pop bike shop, selection is small (space is limited) which is why 4 and not 5 stars. Definitely more of a repair/service shop than a bicycle store. However, I both read and heard good things about this place from friends, so I went there on Small Business Saturday (day after Black Friday) with the specific intention of shopping a local business to buy a single-speed bike. I didn't really care if there was a markup, Main Street businesses are the heart of America damnit and they need our help. Again, selection was limited, but they had the basic type I wanted (Tribe Bike Co.) just in a sort of wacky color scheme. Oh what the hell, I thought. I bought it, after which the unconventional coloring of the bike immediately started growing on me. Who the hell would own a bike colored like that? Me. I rode my new bicycle home and was quite pleased with my purchase. I later looked up Tribe Bike Co. and saw the MSRP on their site (this company, founded in Brooklyn, only wholesales to local bike shops) was exactly what I paid at Jersey Cycles. No markup. I've been going to Flo On Wheels in Hoboken since I wore short pants, but God bless them, they have even more limited selection. I was considering Grove Street Bicycles but I am glad I took my friend's advice to come here instead and I am satisfied with my choice. And now I get a year of free repairs. read more

Frankly, I went here because it was one of the only places somewhat near me open today (Labor Day). I read the other reviews before going which were all positive. My experience was a smooth one. The employees were very helpful and knowledgeable on the kind of bike I wanted. I live in JC and work in Manhattan, so I wanted a folding bike to replace the light rail and subway. These guys know there stuff and seemed very honest and down to earth. Plus the free maintenance for a year helps. read more

Not impressed. I had my bike shipped from another state and took it here for assembly and a tune up. They assembled it but did not perform any tune-up. The brakes and gears still had the same issues. They missed the fact that there was a broken spoke on the rear wheel. I also asked that they clean the chain because it had old grease on it and they told me they don't do that. ??? I found my bike shop. The people here were really friendly ad actually listened to what I needed. All I needed this time was a bag for my bike. I went to Grove Street Bikes yesterday and they were trying to sell me one for $100 plus a new rack for it for $50. I already have a rack, I just need the bag. I bolted on them and went to Jersey Cycles and they pointed me to two bags. One for $40 and one for $55. I took the one for $55 since it was the bigger of the two. They didn't try to upsell me to other items which was nice. I got just what I needed and I will return. read more
