yesterday was my first time going into a jerseys Mike and it was great! i mean yeah its like chaos when you come in and if you don't know where to stand in line you look like a total idiot(as i did), but the food is good and the people there are friendly.all they need to do is better structure their line formation, it gets confusing for a new comer. i made a really bad decision by trying out this new place during the lunch rush so didn't get any seating nor time to stand and look at the full menu plus it was quite noisy. but overall its a good place to come in and eat when its not so busy. p.s. if its your first time there you get a free drink!! read more

I passed by Jersey Mike's the other day and was looking forward to trying it. After reading the range of reviews about the place, I went in with an open mind. Sadly, I will end up being one of the negative reviewers. The space is nice enough, but the dual line concept seems quite confusing to most patrons. The person in front of me in line ordered a hot sub, while I ordered the Italian. The sandwich makers kept asking him what he wanted on his sandwich, even though they should have been asking me. This happened 3 times... kinda silly. So I got the Italian, and was definitely impressed by the fact that they slice the meat to order. Good amount of meat;, but they were sliding it along a bare counter while initially building it. Is the counter any cleaner than the cutting boards? Probably not, but its a little disconcerting to see someone building your sandwich without even the illusion of sanitation. Once the meat was on the sandwich, it was moved further down the line onto the cutting boards; which were COVERED in shreds of lettuce, tomatoes, spice, and puddles of oil and vinegar. They slid the sandwich along this assembly line dragging it through all of this detritus. Again, just a little off-putting. I requested the sandwich "Mikes Way", which is oil and vinegar and spices. Dash of spice; looked nice; then they grabbed the vinegar and oil bottles and just POURED on the two. Vinegar is great; but I think I figured out where all those aforementioned puddles came from.. Likewise with the oil. I probably had a 1/4 cup of oil on the sandwich; not a nice drizzle. They wrapped up my sandwich in paper, which was visibly dripping, and stuck it in a paper bag. Total for a 6" sandwich and drink; $9.90. I was thinking "Whoa, seriously? Did I just pay 9.90 for that?" Well, lets see how good it is. Maybe the sandwich is justified at 9.90. Maybe this is truly an epic Italian sub that will sate my hunger and filly my belly. Let's give the place a benefit of a doubt here; people obviously love it and review it well; maybe I'll be surprised. So, I take my now dripping paper bag to a table, fill my soda, and decide how to unwrap the translucent oil saturated paper without staining my shirt. I tear the bag apart to make a placemat, and decide to just get dirty and eat it by hand. So, I eat the dripping sandwich with tons of napkins; and know what? Its decent. Nice vinegar and onion tang, solid meats and yummy bread. Granted I'm now covered in oil, but it made for an ok lunch. Was it worth 9.90? No way. Im pretty sure Mr Submarine does a very comparable Italian sub for 4.50. Needless to say I wont be back. tl/dr: too expensive for what you get; avoid the oil and vinegar, I wouldnt bother at all. read more

As far as sandwich shops go, this is probably one of my least favorite downtown. The food is overpriced and just doesn't taste that great.

Brings me back to my roots in Jersey. The no. 13 Classic italian is the BEST. Eat here once a week, always having a craving. Love this place. The only thing that sometimes erks me is that they work too fast and dont pay enough attention to what you ordered and ask you several times because they are trying to keep the line moving.. strolled in on a weekday around 5:30...there was not one person in the joint...i got excited. i decided to go with the chicken caeser wrap...looked tasty...thing cost $9...i was like ok this is gonna be a beast ass wrap. Coming from New Jersey, it was a major relief to find a restaurant that serves pork roll (yes it is pork roll, not Taylor Ham!). They also carry Tastykakes. So it is a little bit of home in the heart of Chicago. If only they would start carrying Wise potato chips!!! read more

I have never in all my many days seen an 8 inch meatball sub made by quartering 1 meatball. They try to compensate by overloading it with sauce. Meatball was not very tasty and the sauce was bland. I will go back but I will try something from the cold side of the menu. read more

Came in here on a whim with the boyfriend when we only had about 15 minutes to eat lunch before going on the CTA to Navy Pier. They close at 3 on Saturdays, FYI but I can understand that since the neighborhood is mostly business. Anyways, we ordered the philly cheese-steak with peppers and holy HUGE! We got the smaller sandwich, but I swear.. it was like a 12'' sub! It was A-OK for a philly cheese-steak, but I'm not a fan of the gardinera peppers in it. AWFUL! Expensive, small quantities and VERY poorly designed space. The ordering system stinks - separate lines for hot and cold, but no way to tell that's so until you're in line. The space is cramped so if you eat there plan that your chair will be extremely close to several neighbors and they'll be bumping into you the whole time. Since the pathways in and out of the shop are narrow you'll also be hit by people coming and going while you eat. Staff were overwhelmed and annoyed in general. STAY AWAY read more

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet. The food here is good...nothing amazing or life-altering, but solid. My complaint is in regards to the ordering process at this particular location. It's a clusterf*ck...plain and simple. I actually just walked out today and went to the location that's literally two blocks away where I walked in and placed my order within 30 seconds. There wasn't one person in line. It was after one o'clock so a little late for lunch, but still. Not one person in line at 120 S Wells store. I won't be back to this (200 W. Monroe) location until they figure out a better ordering system/layout. I can't even imagine how this place looks at noon. So I tried this because my friend said it was super good. So instead of my usually subway I got a sandwich from here. I wanted to get a footlong because I wanted to have enough for dinner later. Jersey Mike's is a solid alternative to the typical sub joints, subway, Jimmy Johns, Quiznos, etc. They cut the meat right there for you and the sandwich tastes more like an authentic deli sub than the footlong that you can get for $5 around the corner. If you get it "mikes way" be prepared fora heavy dose of oil on the top. If going with a group, It can get crowded in a hurry here at lunchtime. read more

This location is ok. I've been to the one in Wheaton which is fast, friendly and delicious but this spot in the Loop near my office is just so/so. The ordering process is a joke, forget it if you have hot subs AND cold subs, you may cause the order taker to have a grand mal. I went here the other day with a friend because we are both lovers of sandwiches. I had heard good things about it, but was also warned to stay away from the chipotle cheese steak sandwich. We walked in and the whole place reeked of pickles, which is understandable for a sandwich shop, but it was a little overpowering. The person behind the counter offered us to try a slice of meat before taking our orders. He offered us cappicola... I don't like cappicola but took it politely and was planning on spitting it into a napkin when they turned around. This sample was followed by a sample of ham and then a slice of roast beef. I still had the cappicola in my mouth and was now forced to swallow. I appreciate the sample, but I didn't want it in the first place. I ordered the turkey and provolone "Mike's way" without onions and I think my friend got the Italian sub. These sandwiches were a lot bigger than I expected. I got the regular size. Lucky for me they cut it in half because I could only eat the half. The guy who made our sandwiches was very enthusiastic but I don't think he realized that he was splattering the oil and vinegar all over his pants as he made the subs, I didn't know how to tell him that he was making a mess and tried not to make a face about it. I feel bad. The sandwiches were great but I wish I would have ordered a smaller size. I saved the half for later and it was super soggy from the oil and vinegar, but nonetheless delicious. read more

This place is literally steps from where I work, so I was actually pretty excited when they opened in the space where Salad Spinners used to be. I've been here a total of 3 times now, and all I can say is 3 strikes, you're out. Although the place is very clean, new, and convenient, the sandwiches are just blah, and they are way too expensive. Don't order the hot sandwiches, expecting something better. All you'll get is crumbly meat on a soggy steamed bun, and cheese that didn't quite make it on the sandwich and instead is caked to the tin foil. Not a delicious mess. Not at all. read more

Every morning, I walk into work and it smells like a bakery. What a wonderful thing to smell first thing in the morning- fresh baked bread! There's a Jersey Mike's Subs that opened next door to where I work. Such a good smell day after day enticed me to leave my usual homemade lunch and go out for lunch at Jersey Mike's today. Well, I just spent $7 on the sloppiest, flavorless veggie wrap ever. It was basically a tortilla with iceberg lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and grilled onions and peppers, over-drenched in a "ranch" sauce. It fell apart the moment I opened the paper wrapping. Eating it was a challenge. I probably should have put it in a bowl with a spoon because I made a fool of myself trying to eat it and keep it all together, as the ranch sauce ran down my hands and fingers. And like I said, not a lot of flavor, but then, there's a not a whole lot in the sandwich either. It was more iceberg lettuce than anything else. It was crowded, so I'm guessing other people had a better lunch than me. But as a vegetarian, I would not recommend this place to other vegetarians. It just wasn't worth $7. It wasn't good. That being said, I do enjoy the fresh baked bread smells in the morning. So I guess that's the one thing I like about Jersey Mike's Subs. read more

I used to go to the Jersey Mikes subs in Florida when I was living down there. Every time I went back to Florida I would have to stop. I was so excited to hear that Jersey Mikes had come to Chicago. The place is amazing. Fresh meats always, good service. They dont rip you off with barely any toppings. And if your super hungry, they got a huge sandwich!!!! Here's the deal. They make great sandwiches... Much better than the surrounding chain sandwich shops. The pepper and egg sandwich is the best in the loop. The problem is with their logistics and customer service. It takes too long to get a sandwich and they have twice somehow missed my order even after I paid. I waited and waited only to ask find out they hadn't even started making it yet, even though many people who ordered after me were gone. I could see this happening once but twice in a month. Come on. So at first the place seemed over crowded and a ball of confusion , but I sorted out the lines and how the flow of the lunch mob worked and how do they feed like 25 hungry people a second here. When I think of painfully ho hum, I think of Jersey Mike's. In the entire Loop area, this is the one place that immediately engineers a big YAWN followed by a sigh. Today, however, that big YAWN was joined by a WTF! After a colleague begged me to go, what kept going through my head was what can I order that isn't the kissing cousin of a salt bath. The answer is nothing, so I went with #10 - the albacore tuna on allegedly rosemary bread, for which rosemary is not seen or tasted. Decidedly boring, but besides the unnerving overabundance of sodium, there's not much excitement to a Jersey Mike's sammy, anyway. A girl brings over a light brownish (looking nothing like albacore, but definitely like chunk light) small splattering of tuna & mayo, set in the middle of a white sub roll. A guy asks what I want in addition to the splattering of tuna mixture, and I clearly say lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. He puts a bit of shredded head lettuce and 3 thin mealy slices of what once was a rather small tomato and asks what else I wanted included. Not that there's much to choose from as far as toppings, mind you, I say pickle. Very clearly, I said pickle. Careful not to say it in plural, so that I'll end up with a sandwich loaded with those salty suckers. Off to pay $7.75 + tax, making it well over 8 bucks for this ho hum tuna number, I return to work, and what is on that sad sammie? Not pickle, not pickles, oh no. For twice asking for pickle, I got a big helping of jalapenos! That's it. No more Jersey Mike's for me. At least now, I have a fantastic excuse for not ordering from there. Is it considered cheating to write a review if I work there? I'm sure I'm a little biased but I have to say our subs are the best I've ever had! We slice all our meats and cheeses to order for every cold sub. We trim, tie and cook our roast beef every morning. Our bread is also baked fresh every morning. We slice all our produce fresh and do not open if from a vacuum packaged bag. I've read the a few people have said we drench our subs in vin/oil and I'll admit when I had my first sub there when I was in training I thought the same thing too...until I tasted my #13, the original italian made mike's way of course. Now I always order every sub Mike's Way! It's a blend of onions, lettuce, tomatoes, 1 oz vin, 1oz oil, oregano and salt. I'd have to say though that our #6 The Famous Roast Beef is my favorite cold sub. Our roast beef is amazing. Now that's it's getting colder though I might be sticking with the #43 The Chipotle Cheesesteak, which is my favorite hot sub. Tip for ordering, order by # and not the name. I heard about the $1 special they were doing to help Children's Memorial yesterday. I ordered a club and my friend ordered the turkey and provolone. Do they purposefully put that much vinegar and oil on the sandwiches? The guy gave the sandwich 3 shakes up and 3 shakes down with vinegar. Then 3 shakes with oil. And a ton of oregeno. When he picked up the sandwich to put it in the bag, there was a puddle of vinegar around the bread! Now, I like vinegar, oil, and oregano on my sandwiches, but eating it was overkill. It made the bread soggy and all you could taste was the oregano. I give it an extra star for slicing the meat on the fly, but I've definitely had better. read more
