I feel sorry for the Subway owners around Kentlands, North Potomac and Gaithersburg, because Jersey Mikes makes far and away a much better sub. Everything is fresh; the meat is cut in front of you; you have more than enough choices on the menu, and they are consistently good. Even better, most of the counter prep staff has been with the restaurant for a long time, and they always seem to be in a good mood and friendly. Maybe they're the sub sandwich equivalent of Chick Fil-A in that regard. Definitely top notch. Always a favorite for me and my family. read more

I can't believe I used to go to Subway! Great subs both hot and cold. My favorite is the club sub (bacon makes everything better!) But the original Italian is awesome too. For a hot sub, I recommend the chipotle cheese steak. Cold subs must be had "Mikes Way"! Fresh and tasty. read more

I grew up in Hartford, Ct and there, subs are actually called grinders. I knew Franklin Giant Grinders and Maple Grinders all too well. Behemoth sized monster sandwiches on fresh baked bread just overflowing with top quality meats, cheeses and all the other toppings. I was convinced that the days of such amazing sandwiches was entirely a thing of the past. That is, until yesterday. I visited Jersey Mike's Subs for the first time yesterday, and I am SO happy I did. It's all there, just like I remember. No skinny rolls slightly larger than a hot dog bun as is the case in not only the chain sub shops but also the mom and pop shops now as well, the bread at Jersey Mike's is positively enormous in all dimensions, and the texture is amazing! Soft inside and just baked enough to be slightly chewy outside. The fresh sliced turkey (and YES if you're wondering, it DOES make a HUGE difference. Sorry Subway!) and provalone cheese was marvelous and there was a sizable portion of both and they also weren't skimpy on the crisp lettuce and sweet, large tomato slices. THIS is how subs are supposed to be. Get Jersey Mike's 15 inch sub and you've got enough for 3 to 4 meals. Get a foot long sub elsewhere and you'll eat it all and STILL be hungry. The employees also seemed to be genuinely enjoying their jobs, and were positive and upbeat, a nice and highly welcome change compared to the glum faces and sad demeanor that has become the norm at other sandwich chains. Jersey Mike's will definitely be my main sub shop from now on! I just wish there were more locations nearby to where I live. read more

Jersey Mike's is my favorite sub place, and I've been to the one in Germantown several times, so I know what the subs are supposed to taste like. The Kentlands JM is SUBpar (ha!). The staff is SLOW - we waited behind one lady who was ordering 5 subs and the 2 other people working there did nothing but hung out. They skimp on the meat, the sub rolls this past time I went were stale and hard, and the roast beef was overcooked and oddly stringy. This last time I went I asked for mayo and they overloaded it to the point that it was dripping. It was just gross. In general I had a lettuce sandwich with tons of mayo. It felt like Subway. It can't be a coincidence that every time I go to this JMs I'm disappointed, and every time I go to the one in Germantown I'm happy. And to add to that, the place itself is freezing cold. No clue why they have the a/c blasting in the Fall (this was 2 different times I went that I left with numb fingers). Just an unpleasant experience all around. Sticking with the JMs in Germantown from now on. read more

Consistency is the word here! Every time we eat at this location it has been consistently great! Just recently we needed to bring attention to an issue that we had and asked for the manager. It was busy, but Chris the manager came right over and listened to our complaint and immediately took care of us, no problem. And we have been back and will continue to return. I see there's another Jersey Mike's coming on Rockville Pike and I'm sure it will be as good as this place, but I think we will stick with Chris at this location. it opened today! i was driving in the kentlands with my mom and saw a gigantic banner for jersey mike's off of kentlands blvd. i had to get in and try it and also get this first review in. we split a regular chipotle cheesesteak which was really really tasty. wish there were a little more meat in there though. there were many other tempting sandwiches being assebled before our eyes that looked good as well. the famous roast beef & provolone and the original italian where on the assebly line. my only complaints are that it's quite confusing understanding where to get in line and where to go once you place your order as they ask you to start in the middle and then go either left or right. also they said they could not give me a reciept for my cash payment only credit. it's possible the staff (all new) did not know how to print the reciept. read more

Have only been here a couple times, usually go to the one in Germantown. This place is bigger, doesn't look as 'nice' (cement floor), and gets really busy, but the service is great (quick and organized) AND it makes the BEST sub within 300 miles. All things considered (the soft, fresh roll is a big part of my happiness), this is currently at the top of my 'in Search of... the perfect sub' list for an ex-New Yorker. I usually have the cold roast beef, but felt like getting a hot one today. Got a regular chicken cheese steak (excellent peppers and grilled onions too) with the chipotle mayo (not hot, just tasty), and it was so deliciously awesome I savored every bite. The regular size ($7.50) is good for a hearty appetite like mine, and it was piled high with meat (not stuffed with veggies, but just enough to flavor.) It actually tasted like real chicken too, way better than that plastic gray shaved meat you can buy frozen, and was tender and cooked to perfection with melted provolone. Damn, try one of these babes the next time you are in the Kentlands area for lunch (or even dinner.) Don't bother going elsewhere even if it is cheaper, you get what you pay for, and this is real good food. Great brewed iced tea too, with lemon. read more

Best sub shop around by far. There is never a long wait. They slice all meats fresh right in front of you. Subs have a good amount of meat on them. Yes, they are more than subway but worth every penny. Their pickles are great. If you join the email club you get coupons for free chips and drink every few weeks. Good stuff. I love Italian cold cut subs and this place delivers a good one. Mike's doesn't have the variety of sandwiches that Quiznos and Subway have, but the quality is superior to those establishments. I think it's part of their schtick to be a little crass, but I don't mind because the Italian subs are legit. read more

I ordered an Italian, heard it was your signature, ultimate sub. Boy was I shocked. As they were making it I saw how then they slice everything. I couldn't believe it. The see thru slices of meat are so thin you can literally read a newspaper through it. The cheese is sliced so hair strand thin they have to palm it so it doesn't fall apart while putting it on the bread. I got 3 hair thin slices of cheese. Each meat was 3 see thru slices and some of the slices were half the diameter of the meat roll. The slicer machine was adjusted constantly to keep the slices as thin as possible. I also weighed the meat from the regular Italian sub= 2.3 ounces. The 3 hair thin slices of cheese didn't even register. Then you ask for vinegar and oil and the sub is soaked. My sub tasted like an Italian garden salad between 2 soaked slices of dough. I will never buy a sub from here again.... This is not like it is back east..... Please let Peter Cancro that is restaurant chain really sucks over here. Also ask him did he train his personnel to slice the meat and cheese so hair thin they have to palm it in there hands to put on the sandwiches? Back east subs are truly subs, out west, there worst at best!!!!!! read more

I'm originally from Long Island, NY, so I tend to be a snob about certain things (bagels, pizza, deli's, and subs, or as we call them back home, "heroes"). I've been living in Maryland for 6 years now and had never found a good sub place, trying but failing to satisfy my cravings at Subway, Potbelly's, and Quizno's. I recently moved right around the corner from the Kentland's and saw Jersey Mike's. Originally I expected it to be like any of the millions of pizza places that claim to be "NY Style pizza" but are just poor approximations of Domino's, but I decided to check it out anyway. I was blown away - they slice the meat right in front of you (true, it's not exactly Boar's Head brand, but still better than pre-sliced meat that's been sitting out for god knows how long), and then pile it high with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and most importantly oil and vinegar. These subs look just like they do back home! This is by far the best sub place I've discovered in Maryland, and I've already gone back 3 times. The staff is very friendly - on my second trip in, the server gave me a free sub. Highly recommended. read more
