The inside is also stunning and gives an upscale diner vibe. It's bright with lots of windows, open and has plants. I got the Body count sandwich on a French toast bagel - the bagel was recommended by the staff, I believe his name was Frank. He was helpful, friendly and recommended this sandwich which did not disappoint. Food came out fairly quick. I also got an iced chai latte. The latte was refreshing. The body count came with ham, sausage, AND bacon plus scrambled eggs, apricot jam and American cheese. The combination of flavors melded together so beautifully and kept me full well into the afternoon. I'm definitely looking forward to going back!

The service has always been top notch, and we've never had any issue getting a good table. This is a wonderful family Italian restaurant that is located in a great section of town.

I can't prove it, but I feel like the bartender either got called into work or isn't used to bartending under the pressure of a full house. He had zero interest in serving us and felt like every request was like asking a middle schooler. He had to clear some papers for us to sit, and that was clearly very inconvenient for him. SOMEWHAT in his defense, it was very busy, and he was filling orders the whole visit but could have at least said "bear with me," and we would have extended all the empathy in the world. We ended up ordering two burgers since that's what we were there for. The Hickory burger was cooked well on a brioche bun and included brisket on top. The brisket was a bit greasy, but the burger was cooked great and overall was great! We also ordered a California burger that had avocado (I believe) and a house-made (I think) Thousand Island. Fries were typical and fine, but we weren't even offered dessert. At the end of the day, I can understand people have bad days, and I know Char Bar has more great reviews than bad ones, but I'll skip it next time in DC and go the extra block to Founding Fathers.

The cost and portion size was reasonable, and onions provided a good crunch. The matza ball was a bit heavy and the soup became a little bland towards the end. However, there was a good amount of chicken and vegetables, and crucially, the soup wasn't too salty. We shared the brisket nachos and the mixed grill for our mains. The brisket was perfectly cooked, shredded, and juicy, and full of flavor. The chips were crunchy, and the guac and salsa added a nice fresh element. Char Bar was out of lamb for the mixed grill, so we got steak as a replacement. The steak was delicious and cooked well, although it could have used more sauce. The vegetables were nicely grilled and flavorful. I thought the merguez was OK but not great. The chicken was dry and badly needed a sauce and/or more moisture. I would recommend Char Bar if you are looking for a solid night out at a kosher meat restaurant.

She brings the machine to Pay and clicks through the screen of what was on the order to the payment screen. I asked her can you please go back so I can see what was on the screen she proceeds to just stand there holding the pay machine and I say I'm not going to pay unless I see what my bill was she proceeds to say she can't go back and that she will show me what I paid after I paid and if she needs to, she will give me back money. I said absolutely not. I need to see it. She proceeds to just keep standing there to try and force me to pay without seeing my bill. I have never been at an establishment that not only will not let you see your bill, but tells you to pay and then you can see your bill. She does this about three times and we're at a standstill to the part where I say I will leave if you do not show me my bill and I can call and pay for it afterwards and then she's able to go to the register and get a copy of my bill which it shouldn't have been that difficult and then I say I would actually like to talk to the manager. 6. The manager was pointless. If I was a manager, I would be completely remorseful and apologetic and he was neither. the main question he kept asking was is there something wrong with the bill. Which I responded, what's going on a customer should be able to see the bill without going through all these hoops and he asked me again. Was there a question about the Bill. I responded again. I should be able to see my bill without all of these other their questions. This was a disappointing experience at a restaurant. They drove out of my way to go to. A customer should not have to call a manager over just to see a copy of their bill. To keep standing there after I said I want to a copy expecting me to pay without seeing the bill is wild and unacceptable. And a manager should absolutely handle it better when their employees doing this. Bad customer service.
