This store's vegetable department is awful. How do you not have lemons? Why are mini cucumbers in a different place every visit? The zucchini are never good. The meat selection is limited to put it lightly. None of the carts roll. There are cardboard pop up displays blocking every aisle. The front of the store is a mess of tables and displays you can't roll two carts through. I like Jewel but not this one. read more

Dammmmn! Signal the end of the world as we know it, I can't even believe I am putting my fingers together to write or give a Jewel a four start review, but I can't lie, this was probably the best experience I have had in a Jewel. For those of you new to my world of reviews, I have a dislike of Jewel bordering on sheer hostility. I have to shop at the chain, I just dread going into the stores. I can feel my anger rising before the automatic doors close behind me. There is something that generally pisses me off just walking into the stores. In the past I have asked my fellow Yelpers to say a prayer for me before entering a Jewel. Well color me surprised. I was fully prepared to go into this store with a jacked up attitude, expecting total disappointment and much to my surprised, I had a very pleasant experience. Before I could even get through the first automatic door, there was a woman outside who greeted me with a cheerful good morning. Once in store I was again greeted by someone who worked at the store. Total shock that people are actually pleasant at 6ish in the morning. This store was pretty well stocked from what I could see compared to some of the other stores I have gone to. While they didn't have the lettuce I wanted (Fresh Express Shredded Green Lettuce), but I won't hold that against them. The remaining produce was in good shape and so was the prices. The other thing I liked about this store was the wide aisles. One of things I hate about most Jewel stores is that they have remodeled them and made the aisles much narrower; I think they would deny this as an organization, but when you can only get one cart down an aisle, that was a problem for me before social distancing. This Jewel has nice wide aisles that allow for you to easily pass another customer without running into them. The only cloud in my sunshine trip here was the check-out person. He was not very talkative.,,,said good morning and he just rang me up. But he did it fast, so that works. The woman bagging my groceries was very nice as well, pleasant small talk while bagging my stuff, As I walked out the store, the woman who greeted me coming in was there to send me off. Oh the other thing I like about this store, the front door is close to the where the parking spots are. Nice way to get what need for the week and start my day off on a not so bad note while shopping at a Jewel. read more

I'm new to this neighborhood and would recommend the Osco pharmacy here. The pharmacists have helped me find substitutes for meds my insurance would not cover without my even asking them to look for them. They are often busy like any pharmacy but have always been courteous, and unlike a major pharmacy I used previously they don't make you feel like you are imposing just because you have a question. I'm seeing a variety of positive and negative reviews for the Jewell grocery and I do get their delivery which has been great. Super fast and the online ordering works fine. About pricing, every major grocery store seems to have that going on these days. That being said, I will keep in mind the other reviews here about pricing and service. read more

Their prepared food is often expired. I saw items in the soup isle that were expired today (I picked up 3 and all of them were overdue) and items that I believe should've been removed due to a recall still on the shelf. This place is fine for grocery shopping, but I would skip the prepared foods section. Always check the expiration dates on ALL PRODUCTS. Aldi across the street is less expensive and higher quality and it seems they treat their workers with more respect. read more

I want to start by saying I am aware of inflation, but Jewel is completely out of hand with their price increases. I have been a Jewel customer my entire life, but I try to avoid going there as much as possible now because not only are the prices higher, there are maneuvers made by Jewel that tell me that they think their customers are stupid. I am mostly going to focus on sparkling water, because this review will be long enough focusing on just one product type. To start, I can get Polar Ice sparkling water for more than two dollars less per 12 pack at Woodman's. That's not inflation. Secondly, 12 packs of Jewel brand sparkling water were often $2 on sale only a few years ago. Now the "sale" price is $4.50. Prices have not more than doubled in the past five years. That's not inflation. Thirdly, Jewel brand cola/root beer/etc is cheaper than Jewel brand sparkling water. Since those drinks have more ingredients than sparkling water, I know they cost Jewel more to make than sparkling water. I think Jewel is keenly aware of the demographics of people that buy sparkling water vs the demographics of people that buy store brand soda and are gouging people where they think they can get away with it. That's not inflation. Fourthly, Jewel is now trying to carry 8 packs of name brand sparkling water (Bubbly, La Croix, etc) and charge the same price that they charged for 12 packs of the same products only a few months ago. That's not inflation. Maybe Jewel corporate thinks the average customer is an idiot. I'm not, and I will not be treated like one. I now buy from Woodman's (the longer drive is worth not getting ripped off), Costco, and Tony's. I only go to Jewel for a few things and only when convenience is the driving factor. I would like to end in saying that the people that work at this particular store have always been polite and helpful. It's not their fault. The suits are losing me as a customer, and I am sure I am not the only one. read more

I work nights and tend not to go grocery shopping until after 9PM. Since the pandemic the horribly run management teams at grocery stores have started a trend of closing all check out lanes (except the self lanes) hours before closing. Now the self check out lanes which are small with very little room to place and bag your items are perfectly fine and convenient if you have a hand full of items. However when you have a week or mores worth they are a hassle. I understand the empty shelves, the increased prices, and a cut back in service. What I won't accept is the fact I have to check out a cart full of grocery's and bag them at the same rate as the people who shop earlier. If can can't maintain the staff to provide the service then close and let another Business try. I walked out on a full cart of groceries at Mariano's and never went back months ago for this reason. Monday at about 10:30pm 1-29-24 I finished my shopping to find no lanes open. The same self check-out garbage these stores should be ashamed of. I started to complain to two associates working near by. Jose came over defused my frustration and opened a check out line for me to receive the basic service I'm paying for. I've had workers do this before for me in which case they made me feel like a jerk for simply requesting it. Jose did no such thing. He made me feel like a valued customer. The man deserves a raise and should be a manager. I know these guys are over worked and it's rare to find a quality worker who takes pride in his job. Every time I shop here he's always a pleasure. This is the worst Jewel in Chicagoland by far. The general manager or whoever is running this store should be ashamed - he or she takes no pride in their work, and the entire store is a complete disaster. Nothing is ever stocked after noon, so the store shelves are consistently empty. The produce department is a complete disaster after like 12pm - nothing is ever restocked. They are also constantly out of products in other departments, because the stockers say buyers and department managers consistently fail to order more product. The deli is the worst part of this store. It is a minimum 20 minute wait because the deli manager is absent, not staffing properly, and not instructing the deli staff to serve customers. Every time I have been there in the last 6 months, an older woman and a taller guy are forced to serve a line of customers 10-15 people deep, while the rest of the deli staff hides in the back and avoids customers. The people in the back start to come out and assist when they see all of the other customers have been served, so they are clearly avoiding serving customers. I feel bad for the older woman and taller guy - they have no support from their manager or their other employees, and customer service suffers. The meat department employees provide great service, but the store is clearly gouging on meat prices irrespective of the market. Example: terrible looking baby back with no meat on them are always $6.99-$7.99 a pound, even when ribs are on sale at every other grocery store in Chicago for $2.99-$3.99 a pound. This is likely because the buyers/managers are too lazy to ever update pricing, while they avoid managing the store properly and stocking the shelves. In short, this Jewel is a disaster because of an absent store/general manager who doesn't care, listless staff who have no direction because management is completely absent, awful customer service, and inefficiency that results in what should be a 5-10 minute grocery run taking at least 30 minutes. Please make a change in management so this store can be functional, or alternatively, please close this store ASAP so that another grocer who is capable of running a business can move in. read more

The employees at this store stole about $200 of groceries from my curb side pickup order. Store manager refused to provide me with my receipt then told me they canceled my order so there was no charge when in fact I have statements showing the cleared charge. Customer service told me they couldn't refund me. Corporate told me they couldn't do anything because according to the store manager there is no receipt. The company is a ripoff , terrible customer service. I'm in the process of filing with small claims court because this is not ok. What a wonderful day to go for a quick trip to the grocers. There's nothing better than coffee on a rainy morning. So I decided to stop in and pick up some coffee creamer and coffee. The shelves were stocked with little pieces of heaven. Coffee creamers of all sorts (i.e. dairy, non dairy, half and half). I was just enjoying the view of the creamers with sales price tags. I couldn't believe the options. I was overjoyed by my options, so much so, I chose a dairy and non dairy creamer. Partly because my waistline is not so happy about my new dairy diet. So off to the coffee/tea aisle. The coffee selection is just as plentiful as the creamers. There were coffee from everywhere. Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Caribu Coffee (by the way they are only available on shelves now), and Folgers of course. I decided to grab a Starbucks blend with caramel flavor to go with my caramel flavored creamer. I decided to go home and over indulge in caramel nirvana. I got to the check out, and used my mixx telephone number, and got $5 off my order (that's a cup of coffee at Starbucks). I paid for my order, and off I went to my car. The ladies were nice at the cash register (I sort of miss working at the grocery store). I'm so happy to save myself several trips to the coffee shop. I'll be my own barista for the next couple of days. read more

This place is clean and is generally a very pleasant place to shop, but it has limitations. Floral Dept is great. Most team members are friendly. The baggers often work against speed of service and do not adapt interactions to meet business levels. Imagine 7 people in line and the bagger wanting to read the ingradients of your bread to you (quick way to make me go elsewhere.) Their Drive-Up-And-Go service was fine at the onset, but took a dive. I've used this service at more than 10 locations and this has to be the worst I encountered by far. Missing items (some times 50% of your order), 30minute waits, Confusing substitutions. At one point, there were errors on my order for eight weeks in a row. During Covid (in the "if you're vaccinated you don't need to mask" period) a cashier was venting that guys in the deli dept were not vaccinated, but also not masked because Jewel couldn't require POV. Used to be a weekly go to place, and now is only if necessary. read more

Man this Jewel is nice! I don't shop Jewel as much as I used to back in the day as there are not too many around any longer. I wish they had more of them like back in the '90s. This location is huge! They have a bakery department, floral department, even a hot food department where you can get a hot cooked meal for those days when you're feeling too lazy to cook. Everything looks so nice and organized, and the aisles are labelled too. I love grocery shopping in environments like these where everything is pleasing to the eye and you can find what you're looking for right away. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of bad experiences at this Jewel. The least of which is that the sale prices advertised on the shelves are often outdated, so the items ring up at full price at the register. One time, there was a big bin of chobani yogurts on sale (10 for $10, I think). I grabbed 10, but they didn't ring up on sale. Apparently an employee had mistakenly stocked it with *sugar free* chobanis, which weren't on sale. Things like this happen all the time here. The absolute worst was last July, when I bought one of those plastic snack packs that Jewel puts together; it was cheese cubes, sliced apples, and a packet of caramel dip. The plastic package was properly sealed, but as soon as I opened the package, I saw what appeared to be mouse droppings - yep, MOUSE POOP - inside the package on the caramel dip packet. I called the store and they didn't seem too concerned; they just told me to send an email to some Safeway email address. I sent the email as instructed, and provided details and photos, but never got a response. read more

The store is great and family friendly and the cashiers are so nice especially this one kid his name was mehmed and I hurt my arm at work so I told my 5 year old daughter to bag and put it in the cart and he insisted and he bagged it and put it all in the cart and even gave her the kinder egg she bought and now my daughter always wants to go to jewel with me. read more

Out of the many Jewel Oscos that are throughout the Chicago area, this is by far the only one that seems to have minimal issues and firm management that allows the store to operate as an actual business. Prices and selection are good. There are not many stores that can compare in terms of consumer goods / shopping needs in the area. Well managed chain. Rotisserie chicken has been under the lamps since 9am - it's now 6:23 pm. There are two left. I asked the grocery manager when it's supposed to be removed - he said they can last all day (they can't, it's 4 hours). They have a policy that if there are no rotisserie chickens they'll give you a free one - they insisted that the two dried up, disgusting chickens were still good. Even going as far as to say they're going to put them in chicken salad tomorrow. Which is really just disgusting - I hope whoever gets sick from those sues the hell out of Jewel-Osco. Why am I reviewing Jewel? Because this is one of my "go to" pit stops to and from work. I need birthday balloons? Jewel. I'm gonna pick up some of their delicious grilled chicken? Jewel. I forgot to get stuff over the weekend and I need something random like ketchup, bananas ....whatever? Jewel. I like this store. It is clean, well organized and, frankly, they have a good selection. I don't know why this store has such a low rating. All the staff are beyond friendly, the checkout folk especially are usually up for a few laughs while checking out. Food selection is good. There aren't "artisan breads" as someone mentioned earlier, but if I wanted that I'd go to a specialty bakery. For regular groceries though, this location is great. read more

My husband wonders why I come home grouchy after stopping here. It's by far the closest grocery store to my house and yes, I will continue to go here when I need just a few items. Clearly I wish I had better options. Their fruits and veggies actually taste pretty good, which gets them that 2nd Star. When I've needed something specific, they never seem to have it - even during prime season for those items. The shelves have no clear organization pattern so I'm consistently searching for the most basic items. Their oversized in store bakery only produces the most basic sliced bread (no whole loaves or artisan bread anywhere) and a plethora of cupcakes & sweet rolls that are completely unappealing. And then there's the consistent, lengthy wait to check out. It's beyond frustrating. Zero self check outs. Lucky me! read more

They had literally everything I needed for my stay in Chicago. Very convenient that it's down the block. But I can see what people are saying about the lines to pay. How come there aren't more people at the register when it's time to pay? The lines were super long. Come with time, not your place if you're in a rush. Also, open up the express self checkout! This is the best Jewel in the area. It's OK based on a very low bar. In Chicago, the choice for grocery stores are bad, worse, or unaffordable. There is very little competition in the market. None of the stores has any reason to improve. Jewel is understaffed. I realize this is not a Jewel issue alone. The staff needs management to reach out to them and let them know they are valued and appreciated. They need encouragement, something to put a little pride in their work. The worst. I've stopped shopping at jewels because 1 the price. 2 the interior is so 1990s it doesn't feel good shopping there and spending the high dollar amount. That being said this jewel is on my block so sometimes for time restraints I need to stop in. Never.ever.again. they are 2 for 10 with any sort of satisfaction. Last night was the last straw, I spent 45 minutes grocery shopping, an entire cart full, I get up to check out and GUESS WHAT they only have self check out. They have 3 employees chatting and standing there supervising self check out while I slave away trying to pack 180 dollars worth of groceries away. After they told me only self checkout, I see a line open up suddenly in the check out line, no one alerted me while seeing me struggle, I got over there and the line had 7 people in it now. I ended up leaving my cart and going home wasting an hour of my time I was so frustrated but also felt good that I'll never ever be back. Before this, the last 4 times I've been in there. Every single time I come home WITH ROTTEN FOOD. I get home and see that the food I bought on January 16th is marked to be eaten/ sold by January 2nd. How are they keeping this in stock? Every time Theres rotten food I'm buying from them. What are the odds my first moldy red wine was purchased here. I brought that in, with mold hanging off the cork. The wine almost made me puke for how corrupt it was, and I get there and Peter Pettigrew woman at the front starts questioning me as if I was some scum bag who opened it and trying to steal money back from them. I had to argue and yell at her until she gave me my money back for a lousy 12 dollar bottle of Merlot. This place is trash. Trash workers. Trash system. They must not make enough money to have people working there to check you out. The stock guy last night; I waited for him to walk away and my suspicion was correct he was stocking rotten food expired dates out of the box into the shelf. I saw the tv ads about custom cuts at the butcher shop. I ordered a 21 bone crown roast of pork the day before I needed it,just as they recommended. I called twice to check on it. When I picked up the roast it was only 14 bones. While I communicated with 3 times with Jewels meat department I was never told I couldn't get what I wanted. Last year I got exactly what I ordered and frills were thrown in. read more

Very disappointed in the manager's way of handling an issue. I had a digital coupon for eggs and they only had 18 egg boxed eggs. I told the cashier if he could contact the manager to see if he could approve the 18 count carton instead of the 2 dozen from the digital coupon since they had run out of the dozen eggs. He came to the register in a very rude manner said "No, we can't do that." He looked at me like I was insane. I usually go to the Lawrence and Central Jewel where the customer service is exceptional. For the love of god, I would rather go to the DMV 4x in a day than go to this Jewel 1x in a day. They never have more than 3 staffed check out lanes open and 1 express lane open at a time- so naturally lines wrap down the aisles of the store. Nor do they ever have anyone over the age of 21 staffing a register. C'mon folks, Friday & Saturday nights you are going to have a crowd of people who are interested in buying some adult bevs- staff your store to accommodate your demographic so you don't have to call "21 on 1" every other minute. The only reason I opted for a star at all is because they hire a handful of special needs employees who typically assist with bagging and are the sweetest employees ever. The Jewel has reordered its store: I believe it's at least the third time. This time is was really poor and for a week had aisles without stock (whilst finishing the moving plan I suppose). Also during this time, staff was not informed (or had not yet learned) where relocated items were either. Staffing is poorer than even before, check out lines are long and all checkouts are not available at even the busiest times. Checkers usually need to bag also. There are frequently no carts to use Prices seem to be higher nearly every week. Meat now has brand names, like Hormel, and appears to have been processed before the store No discount day for seniors. July 17, 2017 Yet again they are remodeling. Difficult to find real food; mostly non food and processed items surrounding the limited fresh food They must think they are a department store like Target. Poor produce. The bulk garlic in the bin was beginning to mold. fresh produce has often seen better days, usually spotty cauliflower. After their "grand reopening again in August, it will be even costlier, I suppose. The free My Mixx items that come up on Saturdays, are never readily available in this store, so find another Jewel for that, like Foster and Pulaski. I have been coming to this Jewel on and off for 20 years, so it brings a lot of fond memories for me.They have everything you can find at other Jewel locations. Very busy store and slow at the check outline. Be prepared to wait in line every time.There's is a great cashier working there named Kamil. Gotta give credit where it's due. He's fast and very friendly. This Jewel shares a parking lot with Marshall's, Sears and Toys R Us. It's a big parking which is a big plus. Located right by Six Corners. read more

Therefore there should be enough cash to have baggers available. I go out of my way to shop at a union grocer and think it's garbage that the store manager apparently thinks it's acceptable to withhold jobs and make me bag my own groceries. I'm not lazy. Do NOT use the fresh pass. They substituted with items twice as much, broken eggs, smashed bread, regular coke instead of Coke Zero and then double charged us for the most expensive item. Zero customer service and they just seem confused on how to simply refund our money. It's all a scam! read more
