Overall, an 8/10. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:40 on a Sunday afternoon, with a party of 5. *Hospitality/Demeanor of server Our server was friendly and was very knowledgable of the menu, making several entree recommendations, which proved to be as tasty as she had promised they would be. *Service As far as service, overall, it was quite slow. We waited 3 minutes to be seated, 6 minutes to get water and sweet tea served, and 22 minutes for our biscuits to be served. Service speed gets a 2/10. It was 27 minutes from the arrival of our drinks to the time our entrees were served, and that is not acceptable. The restaurant was moderately busy. the staff seemed a bit lethargic and too relaxed, and not entirely attentive. Service satisfaction gets a 7/10. *Alcohol I sampled the Bloody Mary that my friend ordered and it was the best I have ever tasted, and he agreed. For only $5.50, it scores a 10/10. *Food The food itself was incredible. The brisket was cooked to perfection and had a full, smokey flavor. The consensus around the table was 9,9,10,9,10.. The sweet tea was tastefully sweetened, but not diabetic inducing, so that scores a 10/10. The dessert selection is a bit sparse, and we were all too full to eat, but our waitress made a polite attempt to offer dessert without pushing the issue, which I found to be very professional and refreshing . *Atmosphere/Ambiance I would recommend this restaurant to any person who wants a break from the average, cheap barbecue place that every town has. The atmosphere was pleasant and clean, with music that wasn't blaring but could still be heard easily. THE WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD! Olivia was our server, and was EXTREMELY rude! For the first time ever in my life I left no tip- and that's a huge deal for me, as I used to serve for a living. This was my first time visiting a Jim 'N Nick's restaurant (I've had it catered before), and I'm sad to say this ruined it for me. We arrived, waited 20 mins to have our drink orders taken, another 20-25 to get our drinks...asked for biscuits because we noticed all the other tables had them, and she brought us two tiny ones. She said she'd be back with more when they finished cooking...20 mins or so later she came back to check on us and asked if we needed anything. I asked nicely if we could have some biscuits when she had a minute, and she said they were still in the oven and had a few more mins. We finished our food, waited around another 20 mins, and she brought us our checks, I wanted dessert but she didn't bother asking or waiting to see if we wanted that. Since we still hadn't gotten anymore biscuits, I asked nicely if we could have some to take home, and she rolled her eyes and said she'd have to ask a manager. She came back, took our checks and never said another word about it. I truly can't understand why she was so rude to us over some mini cheddar biscuits! I only get one cheat meal a week, and I won't be wasting another one here! For a bill of $22 for one person, I expect much more! Do not go to this restaurant. Our table of 5 this evening was a disaster. They were out of lemonade, out of clean glasses, out of bread plates, out of silverware, out of napkins! But, they didn't tell us until after we ordered. I ordered a wedge salad with BBQ. After everyone ate their dinners, (which were luke warm to start) they came out with a pile of mixed greens with BBQ on top and told me they're out of wedges. I told them no thanks and to bring me a loaded potato. Fifteen minutes later, the server told me they're out of potatoes. So I had no dinner at all. They comped our drinks...are you kidding me? Food was okay. - just okay. Ribs and pulled pork are good - brisket is so-so. Problem is service, which is terrible. Dozens of people wait upwards of an hour for a table when there are at least 8 open tables at any time, which means that they're either chronically understaffed (this happens every time) or just don't know what they're doing. Waitstaff can't get food to the table in a timely manner, which could be a kitchen issue. They brag about the cheese rolls (which are good) but you can't get them without asking twice and waiting forever because the kitchen doesn't keep up. Even great food wouldn't be enough to justify a recommendation until the service issues get straightened out. read more

We stopped at Jim and Nick's on our way back home from a trip to Florida. We had never eaten here before but BBQ sounds good. Our oldest son has Celiacs disease and the waitstaff and kitchen staff was very accommodating when it came to finding something on the menu he could eat. The menu has a vast selection of kids meals from BBQ pork sliders to Chicken drummies to Mac and Cheese. The kids portions are generous with one side. This was plenty for two meals for our kiddos. Both my husband and I were pleased with our meals and enjoyed them, though next time I will skip the peach mint ice tea martini. This missed the mark and wasn't as refreshing as I thought it would be. The service was decent and our servers was in tune to helping make the kiddos happy and if we lived in the area, we would definitely come back. read more

I've been here 3 times now since I moved to the area. Each time trying something different; my two favorites are the Carolina style pork and the hot links. Both have a little kick and a nice (but not overpowering) smokey flavor. The fried green tomatoes are great and so are the collards! Beer is always cold and service has always been great. It actually pains me to say that this place really is... just ok. It pains me because if I were back in my hometown of Birmingham and you asked me what my favorite BBQ place was, without hesitation, I'd say Jim N' Nick's. Now, my answer would be that it kind of depends. See, I'd rather have the sides from here, I'd rather have ribs from "a place just across the train tracks" and I'd rather have pork from "a place just past the post office." Why? Well... there are numerous answers to that. First and foremost, it has always bothered me in general that Jim N' Nick's doesn't offer a sliced pork option. And no, I'm not taking off a star for that as that's really not their call, but I felt it was worth mentioning (the hints!). Secondly, I can't get consistent service from this particular location. I've been to this location 7 or 8 times, and my order was screwed up 4 times. Sometimes I get the wrong item, sometimes I get the wrong sauce, and sometimes I'm just flat out missing something. On the other hand, the two other BBQ locations that I was prepared to be disloyal to once I found out Jim N' Nick's was coming have about a 5% chance of screwing up some part of my order, and one of those locations NEVER has. Thirdly, for one reason or another, the portions at this location seem to be a little different from my usual location. Which I don't really care about in the sense of NEED MOAR FOOD!!!, the bigger issue is that the prices don't compensate for this lacking area. Which brings me to my last point. The prices are borderline absurd, again, only due to the portions. Portions either need to go up, or prices need to come down. Seriously. As a few bonus complaints, they tend to run out of things a little early (more like far too early to be out of them). I don't remember what it was, but I went in about 2.5 hours before closing on a non-game weekend and they were out of something. So I wanted something else and they were out of that too. That's one of two times they were out of something more than an hour before closing. For a secondary bonus complaint, they seem to "miss" people coming through the door. I came in on one occasion with literally nothing but a simple question to ask before ordering and, for 10 minutes, I stood there. Yeah, by minute 5 I should have said something, but I honestly wanted to just see how long it'd take for them to see me there. Well, nobody wanted to talk to me that day so I left. This sound like a two star review to you? Well, it might be. I might be able to bring myself to give this location a 2.5, but I don't have that option, and I just couldn't bare to give it two stars. As for the management issues frequently mentioned, I've had varying experiences with that as well. I spoke to one manager about an issue and he just stormed off, I've had one manager correct the issue, and I've had a manager that corrected the issue and threw in some extras. I'm sure which manager I had the best experience with is obvious (seriously, extra cheese biscuits fix alot of things, but this involved extra meat too!) I actually, once upon a time, fired off an e-mail to whomever receives e-mails for Jim N' Nick's in an effort to get them to bring a location to Auburn. Now, about 3 years after that e-mail, I'm a little disappointed. Frankly, I actually worry about the place. I don't want them to go belly up, but there's alot wrong with this place in my opinion. To end things on a positive note though, the bartenders and the servers? Fine specimens of southern hospitality. Love talking to them. Except the one girl who was by the door that decided she didn't want to talk to me within the 10 minute window that one time. That made me a bit of a sad panda. read more

My friend came here before and said it was amazing! Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The service was very slow (I'm talking 15 min to get a bottle of beer slow) and it was not that busy. The food was ok. They brought our nachos with peppers even though we asked for no peppers, but they tasted decent. We ordered the three meat sampler to share. the turkey was a bit dry and the brisket was very fatty, but the chicken was superb! The green beans were also really good, but the Mac n cheese was bland. We came on a random Friday night and it wasn't overly crowded so we were seated quickly and our service was fine. We ordered brisket nachos and brisket sandwich and two kids meals. The brisket tasted fine, not the best I have had but considering I can't get it very easily in Alabama I am happy to have it. I guess you can't do a trip to a southern state without trying their barbecue. I came looking for brisquet, the order comes with two sides. The brisquet was very good but my cut had too much fat so once I cleaned it I was left with not as much brisquet. I was hoping for more vegetables sides but they only had a house salad and collards. We went for dinner the other night a few days after they finally opened the dining room back open. The restaurant was not crowded when we were there but the service was not good. Our server had several tables but she kept forgetting our drinks, sauces that were requested with the meals, and the like. The worst part was that we asked 6 times for their biscuits. 6 times. We got one basket of their biscuits that allowed each person at the table to have one AND they were cold. She kept saying she was going to bring more but never did. We asked her again near the end of our meal if we could get more and she said she "couldn't get her hands on any because they kept giving all of the biscuits to drive-thru customers". You would think a restaurant would want the people who are actually inside and leaving tips to be satisfied with the service but apparently they were more concerned with the drive-thru customers. Live next door, go all the time. It's was busy, my daughter wanted to sit outside. Asked the hostess and she quoted us a wait time. No problem. 5 minutes later we were sat inside. Again no problem. Server was robotic and rushed. We waited 1 hour and 6 minutes for cold dinner. When are dinner arrived, it took another 5 minutes to get silverware. The manager on duty was apologizing and making excuses to everyone else in the dining room, he never said a word to us. This is really unfortunate, it was my go to. Amazing barbecue. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The food takes a little while but it is worth it. The pulled pork sandwich is very good and I would recommend adding on the two barbecue sauces. The cheesy biscuits are very good and I recommend the Mac and cheese more than any other side. Stopped here for lunch after visiting Auburn Univ. Seated quickly, our server Heather was lovely and efficient. Now on to the food. I smoke bbq meat at home. So i am critical of big commercial places like this. The food is on par with most places this size. I had the pulled pork, my son had the brisket. Not bad, but not exceptional. My pork was tender, a little more chopped than i prefer, with a decent amount of mild smoke. They use hickory as most places do. I did ask to see their pit before leaving and they were kind enough to allow me in their kitchen. So a thumbs up for that. The cole slaw is great but they give you very little with a lunch sandwich. The cheesy cornbread starter is ok, but nothing to write home about. Their bbq sauces on table come two ways, regular and spicy. They are carolina vinegar based style so be aware. All in all a good lunch time experience, and would return to try ribs if afforded the opportunity. I prefer side of the road, small pit bbq places that use different woods and combos. read more

Bad experience this evening! The host was prompt, and smiling, ready to seat our party. We sat for 5 minutes before greeted, then sat another 5 before our drinks were brought. Our server didn't know any of the menu item, specifically the sauces. After ordering, 10 minutes passed, another server brought us cold bread. Then our food showed up. We waited 5 more minutes for silverware. Our server never came back to the table after. Our drinks were stayed empty. We asked for the check; it took her almost 20 minutes. After presenting the checks, I had to get up and go to the serving station to ask another server to run them. The manager comes back with our cards and says "thanks for coming in. Sorry for the minor delay." Minor delay? There's more problems than the minor delay. The lack of teamwork this staff allowed for our server to struggle. The lack of communication from our server to at least give us some knowledge of what is going on. The poor management skill for not stepping in to handle issues properly. This place will fall before anything major comes in the doors. read more

Everything else except the actual BBQ is good. The meat is bland and lacking seasoning. Every single time I've eaten here I've been served room temperature non seasoned meat. I got the southern burger (bacon burger with cheese BBQ sauce and onions)-- basic I know. But it was so juicy and flavourful I was sad I couldn't finish it all. Went to this store a couple of weeks ago! Everything seemed to be ok, not many people greeted us. The waiter seemed to be a little distant after I ask her named as if I was trying to lead that question into something else. Really I just want to know her name so I could call her by her name if I needed anything. The food was decent, but some of my colleagues received the wrong order, and even after we stated it was the wrong order it still took forever to get our food. When I spoke to one of the managers stating that the waiter attitude was great he seemed not to take my feedback as well. It seemed as though his body language was as if "Why, are you talking to me."
