The price of sandwiches has gone from $5.57 to $7.43 in just the past 3 years. There are better dining options at this new price. I will not be frequenting Jimmy's like I did in the past. Jimmy's John's owner must need another $20 million dollar mega yacht & raising the prices will get him the cash quick. The French 16 ( Club Lu-Lu ) is still my favorite! I like to add my own Kraft Deli-Select American cheese, the sandwich tastes like an awesome BLT. Jimmy's Provolone is just too bland. The customer service is always rockin', the staff is still friendly & professional. The store itself is very clean & well organized. I've often asked the downtown location to turn it down and they do, but I've never done this at the campus local, as I'm afraid I would be thought of as an old unhip fart. I too would be a little ashamed of saying I love this place,if I had any dignity left. But it all started a little over 10 years ago in E. Lansing, MI (my first JJs) and its been love ever since. I like Jimmy Johns, I really do. The sandwiches are delicious and delivery times are great, but this particular location gets 3 stars from me because of their consistent ability to get my order wrong. Today I ordered a #1 Pepe with extra tomatoes, plus avocado, cut in half. What I got was a #1 Pepe, still whole, with no avocado and no extra tomatoes. Pretty much everything I asked for, I did not get. The first few times they messed up my order, I let it go as a fluke but it's never been so apparent that a restaurant does NOT read what you order. And it's not as if I mumbled it to a phone operator and it was misinterpreted or forgotten. I order through the Internet 99% of the time and they do NOT look at what I want. Today I had to call in and have them take off the extra charges from my credit card, which they apologized for and agreed to do. They call themselves a gourmet sandwich shop & that is a big stretch; that ain't no gourmet sandwich although they probably are in the same league as thundercloud/subway. Yes, I have been unfaithful, eschewing Vito's protection and hanging with the Thundercloud Gang or the Subway Dwellers. "You will talk!". Sorry, I can't. The veggies and shredded lettuce with an Italian dressing seals the deal. The Vito is a mighty "boss" sandwich from Jimmy Johns with all of the elements of a Great Italian sub. One bite and you'll want to stay true to the family. If the meats were bolder and more generous, this would be a 5 star sandwich. But the price is very reasonable for what you DO get and they are widely known to be the fastest sandwich in town. Yes, my sandwich was done and on the counter BEFORE I even got my change from the cashier. Go figure out that one. It seriously threw me for a loop. It's funny that several of the other reviewers professed their love for Jimmy John's as a secret or a confession, because as I contemplated posting a positive review of them, I was thinking the same thing. There's something so seemingly...corporate...fratty...something...about the atmosphere of JJ's that makes you feel like you don't want to like it. But you do, oh so much, and you keep coming back for more. The sandwiches are fresh, delicious, BIG, and made fast. The atmosphere leaves a little - OK, a lot - to be desired - it's just sterile and loud and not the most comfortable place to hang out. Once, I went with a couple of friends and we wanted to talk, and we asked them to turn down the music a little (we were the only ones in there, and it was deafening); they said they couldn't because the "corporate office" required them to have the music at a certain volume! Just out of curiosity, we called their corporate office to ask whether it was true, and indeed it was. So that is annoying. But just order the sandwiches and take 'em to go, and enjoy them at home or make a picnic of it at some romantic place like the Capitol grounds or one of Austin's fabulous parks. So I've been on the Paleo diet for a couple of months and wanted to let people know about the Jimmy John's "JJ Unwich". This is a lettuce wrap that rivals the size of their regular subs. You can pick whatever sandwich you want and they wrap the thing in probably 7 or 8 fat lettuce leaves and wrap it in sandwich paper. It's fantastic. I call Jimmy John's for delivery to our office, and they usually have a biker bring a sandwich over within 5-10 minutes! You can't beat that! I definitely miss Jimmy John's bread, which is some of the best in Austin. And their Italian Night Club, bread or no, is one of the best Italians in town. read more

I love the #5 (Vito), but at the red river store I can never get them to make it how I order it. When it's right, it's great, but it rarely is. I just don't think it should be that hard when they're not busy to hold the lettuce and tomato, and add hot peppers--but apparently it is. In the at least a dozen times I've gotten it, maybe a third of the time it's been to order. There's something especially delicious about the bread. Last time though, I got it to go, came home, and the capicola was at least 80% fat and I couldn't eat it, so I had a salami sandwich basically. :( More like 3.5 stars. read more

YES! I absolutely love how my favorite Denton staple is just walking distance away from where I work. The only difference is this sandwich shop gets busy - super busy - during lunch hours on weekdays. I always order the number 13, the vegetarian option, on wheat bread with mustard and not mayonaise. It's always consistently the same (sprouts, cheese, avacados, etc.), and that makes me happy. *Oooh, I just dropped this place down a star because my veggie sandwich lacked both sprouts and the guacamole. Jimmy Johns: the only time when coming fast is a good thing...hey-o. Really though, I enjoyed JJ's vegetarian sandwich. After imposing a month-long vegetarian diet on myself, I began to find out how sucky it is to be vegetarian. Not only are vegetarian options smaller in size sometimes, they are often disgusting. JJ's veg-wich is one of the exceptions. I think it's the avocado spread and the dijon mustard. I like ordering online because then there's a smaller margin of error, and I also get to see all my options. And I can take as long as I want deciding what to get. A veggie's worst nightmare. So I ordered the gourmet veggie option and was told they did not have any alfalfa sprouts. I was eating a sandwich with iceberg lettuce, three slices of cucumber and a few slices of tomato and some cheese. The bread itself was ok. But overall the sandwich just was not worth it. My visit to place at approximately 2130 on a Friday night. This is my second visit to a Jimmy John's. The first was over ten years ago in Colorado. The first thing that caught my attention when I walked in was an employee sprawled on a prep table. He did jump up pretty quick but nevertheless not a good place to take a break. I ordered the easiest item I could find on a very overwhelming menu. A BLT. I asked the one guy I could see behind the barricade if they had salt and pepper they could put on it? He said no. As they finished up my sandwich I searched the restaurant for salt and pepper but found none either in packets or on the table tops. If you're going to charge $13.00 for a BLT have some freakin salt and pepper available. The upside to the visit the cashier did a good job of suggestive selling. I am sooo thankful that Jimmy John's is here in Austin, TX. Ever since my first Jimmy John's sandwich at the tender age of 18, I've been hooked. Damn you Jimmy John's. I am secretly in love with Jimmy johns. I was dragged there by my sister whose roomie was looking to get a job and wanted us to see if they were hiring. I was annoyed and hungry and knew I would never find anything to eat low carb style in a sandwich shop..however, Im a gal who admits when Im wrong, so I am publically bowing down to the greatness I discovered within Jimmy Johns lettuce wraps. I like the idea of lettuce wraps in theory, food and sauces jammed together in a tightly wrapped roll of lettuce. Problem is elsewhere they are usually rolled improperly and fall to pieces in your lap. Not this time. I got some california lettuce wrap with turkey, cheese, alfalfa sprouts, mayo and a few more things, I think. It was wrapped perfectly and I was warned about the proper way to eat it. Although I knew that I could create the same masterpiece at home for a third of the price, it was still nice to have some semi cheap, pretty good, moderately healthy fast food. Great, cheap sandwiches exactly the way you want them at the speed of light. Although the premise of this sandwich shop had me completely fooled ("gourmet"- more like "simple and perfect"), Jimmy John's offers very good portions for the best value (under $5 for regular subs, $5.25 for larger ones). There's also no wait- I got my sandwich made in the time it took to pay for them. In fact, it was so fast that I wish it had taken longer so I could cool down in their funky-decor air-conditioned diner. I also manage to have an apartment on the same block, so it's a great way to grab lunch whereever I'm going. Plus, they are open late so it's good for a pretty healthy snack (as opposed to the abomination that is the Taco Cabana). I think the secret lies in the fresh baked bread- I walked in there once and they had just pulled out a bunch of loaves from the oven and the aroma was amazing. read more

Apparently, Clarisa R. and I order the same thing at Jimmy John's. They have a ridixy amount of cheese on them, so I usually end up eating half and saving the other half for later. Be warned that the second half can end up kind of soggy, but I don't mind that, so I eat it that way. Also the have salt and vinegar chips! So delicious! I miss living within walking distance of Jimmy John's! There isn't a ton of seating, so maybe try to avoid peak meal times... or if you live close, get it delivered! read more

The sandwiches here are fairly priced because the size of the sandwiches are perfect. It's a only a few cents more expensive than Which Wich, but Which Wich's sandwiches are much smaller. The bread here is what really makes this place good. I know that if you go really late at night before it closes, you may be able to buy the leftover bread for cheap. yum num num. The bread has a soft but sturdy crust that just beckons you to sink your teeth into its delicate center followed by the amazing blend of flavors. Regular customer, generally get good service. Ordered tonight at 10:15, waited an hour, surprised its taking so long and called to see if order went through. Whoever was on the other line dismissed my inquiry with an arrogance I didn't think could possibly be conveyed over a phone call. When I politely explained that their procedure for delivery was fine and my surprise at the wait time is what caused my concern, the worker responded with a "thanks for the story" and hung the phone up. Ridiclously arrogant, dismissive, and unprofessional. I understand that their work isn't incredibly stimulating or challenging, but the lack of common decency was surprising and dissapointing. I'll start off by saying, if you want a sandwich, Jimmy John's definitely makes some great ones. And you can't beat the fact that they are open until 3 am and they deliver. I have had some tasty sandwiches from other JJ locations before. This location however... I don't know if it has to do with the fact that this location is so close to UT (easy to please/hungry college kids), but they are VERY INCONSISTENT. I have ordered at from here on a number of occasions and they will often forget things like Avocado (which is a ridiculously overpriced add-on considering they give you barely any). When you are paying $8 + for a sandwich they should at least get your order right. If you order in store, make sure you WATCH them make your sandwich. Sure, they make it scary fast, but this leaves much room for error. As far as the location, it's easy to get to, the little parking lot and spots on the side are usually free, even with it being so close to campus. The interior is clean, as with any JJ. I've experienced super fast deliveries, as well as some that took over 40 minutes. If you're really craving JJ, I would reccomend finding a different location or hoofing it over to nearby Which Wich on the drag (they give you WAY more avocado and way more choices on customizing your wich). read more

So, I ALWAYS order my sandwich online and this is the store that delivers my sandwiches. Let me say that about 3/4 of the time this place will deliver in under 10-15 minutes. I've had a few times it was over 15, but it's still a pretty good ratio on the quickness to slowness in delivery speed. I almost always get the large tuna sub with bbq chips. I know a lot of people get the vito, but i'm a fan of seafood. Can't go wrong there, unless if they don't cut it in half that is. Which happens about half the time i order here. No pun intended. Some of the delivery guys are bikers. Not motorcycle bikers, but bicyclist bikers. That's right. Not a happy camper! I went with a group of five friends. It was my first time eating there as well as everyone elses. We decided what we wanted and went to order. It was a nightmare! They got my entire groups order wrong! I had my order fixed three separate times, only to find it terribly wrong every time. The people taking the orders got so angry with us, that they literally raised their voices (something you just don't do if you're trying to make customers come back). The customer service was just so terrible and rude that we didn't even bother to try to have them ever get our orders right after the first few trys. Let alone were we going to sit there and try to get our money back. It says free smells - it will deff draw you in! My favorite is the Tom Turkey. The problem with this place is I just can't describe what is so fantastic. It's just bread, provolone, turkey, sprouts, mayo, lettuce...but it's the best! The do use a lot of mayo so if you're not a fan, let them know. If you're in a hurry, this is also the place to go. They say "sandwiches so fast you'll freak"...it's true! By the time you put your wallet back up, they are calling out your order that it's ready! Haven't had Jimmy John's in a long while and didn't remember it being quite as good. Came very early in the morning to meet a college student. We both haven't had breakfast but a sandwich sounded good especially since the other option next door was a very packed Chick-fil-a or Taco Cabana. No one was here yet but I got my usual of Roast beef. It was fast and the bread is out of this world. Nothing compares to it. Its chewy and perfect. The meat and veggies were fine but the bread is what stands out. Its very quiet at this time of morning and they are fast and efficient. Nice place to chill for a Sat a.m. when the entire campus is just waking up. Enjoyed it a lot. The music was a tad loud for the morning but that's ok. We still were able to chat and enjoyed our sandwich before heading out. Hmm..this sandwich made me start craving a good sandwich again-no more of that Subway bready stuff even though its cheaper. Be sure to ask for it on wheat, and that they don't leave out any of the ingredients. A co-worker used to request that they slice his bread thin - when I did the same, my bread fell apart. While I am not a big sandwich fan, I will make a major exception for 2 places, Thundercloud (check out my review) and Jimmy Johns. I will never turn down a trip to Jimmy Johns, unfortunately I live in South Austin and they do not have a location down here but that does not stop me from making an occasional trip to this location when I get off work. Keep in mind this review also encompasses my visits to the location up on 183 and Braker as I ate there regularly when I lived in North Austin. My review is also limited to the fact that I always order the Billy Club, but from what I have seen of other sandwiches I do not feel like this review would be far off. The sandwiches have the most meat I have seen on a standard sub, granted they call it a giant sub but it does not have a small version so I am considering standard. Also they use quality ingredients like name brand mayo and Dijon mustard.... no Sysco brand items here. I have also gotten a couple of the party subs during football season and there is no drop off of quality when it comes in the 6 foot variety. I have never gotten delivery but if it is half as good as the in store service then it would be well worth it. For a late night sub craving I would recommend no one else. read more

Simple sandwiches, very fast. Very rarely has my sandwich not been ready by the time I'm done paying. Being a night owl, the best part about this location is that it's open until 3am everyday. Terrific for late night brain food or for adding something to your stomach other than beer after a night of debauchery. I never understood the draw to places like Kirby Lane and Magnolia late at night; remind me again why I would want to wait an hour-plus for eggs?
