Reservations are a must because of the size The food is 5* but the service is lacking., otherwise it would be an excellent restaurant. I started with an excellent local ceviche with homemade potato chips. My wife had the Roasted Beet And Goat Cheese Salad fried over mixed greens, not enough beets. For entrees, I had a rosefish which I never heard of, a light, delicate fish that is very mild and bland. It was served with basmati rice and ratatouille. My wife ordered the short ribs. It comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My wife opted for double vegetables instead of the potato.Both were very good. The menu is constantly changing due to availability of items. It's one of our favorite spots to bring out of town guests, because it offers great food, wine and service in an intimate setting, yet it's just a few steps away from the Avenue's hustle and bustle. We love the classic beet salad w warm, fried goat cheese. Fresh and flavorful ceviche is always a great way to start your meal. The short ribs are tender, juicy and melt in your mouth. There's always a few choices of fresh fish like snapper or swordfish from a local fisherman. The rigatoni bolognese is the ultimate comfort food - it's like something your nonna would make! This is the most fabulous place! Every meal is fresh, excellently prepared and beautifully served. I have never been disappointed and have had everything on the menu. The Chef cooks each item to order and it's fun to improvise. The service is professional and caring....and very helpful. Each server knows every item and is extremely helpful. Came here for a private party (pre-wedding event) so I can't comment on the regular menu but all of the dishes (swordfish, chicken, pasta) and deserts we were served were excellent, the portions were really large - was a shame I couldn't eat it all because I was so full. The group had packed this small quaint Resturant to the gills but they still managed to skillfully serve us in expert and timely fashion. We have been going to Jimmy's for over 5 years. This is a wonderful local "A" restaurant. Always consistently excellent. The co-owner, Julie is very friendly and makes everyone feel at home. The staff and associate Chef's have mostly all been working at the restaurant for many, many years. Over the top fresh fish entrees (fish caught locally by local Captain Clay. We were very disappointed. We went to Jimmy's Bistro for breakfast because they were advertising that they are serving breakfast and lunch now. We went on a Monday and they were NOT open. We went into the restaurant later that evening and asked about breakfast; they said, "Yes! Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. So, we went the following Tuesday and again NOT OPEN. Food was great. Interesting menu full of various options. I would suggest the chicken fried chicken, beet salad, empanadas. The food was not the issue. The woman who was serving us was incredibly rude. I have never felt more uncomfortable at an establishment in my life. She made it very clear to my party that she needed the table back in 1.5 hours. As a former server I understand that the tables need to be turned over but she was exceptionally rude about it and very matter of fact. I will start off by saying that this review is of the overall experience and not the food. The food was amazing, but the service was terrible. When you have to pour your own wine that tells you something. It took over 8 minutes to be seen, and the server rarely came back. Did I mention that we I was sitting at the bar with nobody else, and the server was nearby many times? I asked for additional bread to finish my dish, but after 23 minutes of waiting I asked the kitchen myself which they had instantly to hand me. I mentioned that I only had a short time to be there when I was first greeted, but then waited for the check as well as everything else. My absolute favorite place in Delray. Great atmosphere. Amazing food. You can keep coming back because the entree menu is always changing. The staff are friendly, funny and familiar, they'll remember you next time. It's a foodie's dream. My family is from New Orleans, and this was one of my grandmothers specialties. Jimmy's Etoufee blew my grandmothers recipe out of the water. Best I have ever had. I was here after Christmas with friends and family. My first time eating here. Reservations are a must. This place gets busy and packed. Like everyone said, it's not a large space. They also seem to use a limited amt of ppl working the floor. I work in the industry and I didn't particularly enjoy seeing the waiter busing tables putting fingers in dirty glasses, then setting tables and serving food without washing hands. I suggest hiring a busser and making sure hands are always clean. I'm admittedly kind of a germ a phobe. On to the food: they take great pride in serving tasty and well prepared and fresh food. Everything was delicious! The servers on the floor were swamped but were friendly and helpful when they were at our table. If it weren't for the pricing of this restaurant, I would give this a 5 star review. I had the local snapper and my husband had one of their chicken specials. I will say that our dinners were great. BUT, I think entrees all in the mid $20-$30 range is crazy. The wines are expensive as well as everything else on the menu. That said, the food and the service were excellent. I just wish the pricing was a bit lower so we could consider this more of a weekly stop instead of a splurge night out. The wine list was also WAY overpriced. $15 for a glass of Cab. Seriously?! Also, you can tell the restaurant is really trying to make its mark in Delray. One helpful thing would be to update your menu daily on Facebook or some webpage. It's very difficult to get excited about dining out for these prices without knowing what is on the menu. Just a heads up to people who are reading a menu on line... THIS IS NOT THE MENU... this is an old photo and I think the only thing on the menu that was also on their web page was the soup and the etouffee (which seems to have a different vegetable in it daily). Anyway, cute place and good food but not a great value. I've been in the food business a long time and I do know the food cost difficulties but I just don't think 25-30 dollar entrees are a good value. I was really looking forward to eating here, but left disappointed. The food is better than average, but not by much. And the tables are packed so tightly that my wife had a hard time getting back to her seat after returning from the restroom. I felt like the people at the table next to us were sitting with us. When the waitress cleared our dishes from the table she had to hold them in my face because there was room for her to move. The service was okay, but not great. When our server cleared our salads and appetizers, we had to ask her for new utensils after she brought our entrées. My wife and I dined there last night. Everything was very, very good but two really stood out: conch fritters (best we've ever had) and a strawberry dessert in a balsamic reduction (heavenly). We both had the two fish specials of snapper and swordfish. It is rare for me to look at amend and state that I could easily order every entree but that is true here. The place could much better with customer service, the first time I called to make a reservation the owner answered and asked me to call back in 30 minutes. When I called back their was no answer. The second time I call a women answered and put me on hold,must have forgotten about me because 30 minutes latter she picked up the phone and than told me there were no opening. So my husband and I thought third time a charm...no way! We called for my birthday...got a reservation.. got there and they put us in the back of the hallway next to the bathroom . The food at Jimmy's is fantastic. I had the Shrimp Etouffee, with multi-dimensional spices approaching but not over their limit. The Delray Ceviche and the Vietnamese Lettuce Wraps were delicious as well. Maybe the Housemade Mozzarella & Tomato Salad was just a bit short of New York City standards for fresh mozzarella. The customer next to us at the bar announced that he was coming back tomorrow for the Venison Goulash, which looked so good it had me thinking that we should, too. Don't miss dessert. What an intimate delightful gem. Almost was turned away, when a rez opened up. I can't gloss by what some take for granted. The bread at Jimmy's was so, so, so good. we were told it came from Canada. Not sure what that means, but it was terrific. One review said the service was a little slow, well it was welcomed pacing on this night, didn't feel like they were trying to free up a table. (even though no tables were available) I was surprised that they couldn't coordinate all the dishes to come out at the same time. Two of the diners had the pasta dish which was excellent, and I had the chicken fried chicken which was so unbelievably good, everyone wanted a taste, but it did arrive a few minutes after the pasta dish. Hidden gem! Just south of Atlantic avenue is a hidden gem! Creative menus every night! Definitely one of the most talented chefs in the area with top quality food which equals an exceptional dinner. The tuna and tile fish this evening was delicious, cooked to perfection, and plated beautifully! Very attentive servers. And they are soon opening for breakfast and lunch! Great date night place. I ate here today and absolutely loved it. I had Tomato Bisque with a Parmesan puff pastry followed by very tender Braised Short Ribs with house-made mashed potatoes and french beans ...mmm.. and then on to dessert... house-made chocolate fondue with ice cream and bananas that melt in your mouth.. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a homey environment, a large wine variety, and deliciously FRESH house made food. Seriously, every time I go here there is something new on the chalk board menu! =0) In regards to the negative reviews about the service below, the service at Jimmy's is great. It has been said by everyone I've spoken to that they feel as though they are at home and love going there. I've also sat in that alley way mentioned below and its quite romantic. Ate at Jimmy's for the first time lasts night. Certainly will not be the last. The food was incredible. The service was great. Even the music was perfect. Everything about the place is cool and refreshing. The menus are listed on a large chalkboard behind the bar. We started with the homemade mozzarella which was fantastic. The cheese itself is amazing, but I thought the pesto really made the dish. For entrees I had the Shrimp Etoufee and my wife had the grouper. Both dishes were pretty much perfect. What a pleasant experience we had last night (Saturday) at Jimmy's Bistro in delray beach. It is a small intimate place with great food and service. There were six of us and everyone enjoyed their meal. The dumplings were a treat and I really enjoyed my chicken Milanese... The waitress was super and, while the place filled up, you could still have a very nice conversation. We did not have desert, but I saw one and it looked great. Our favorite restaurant in Delray. It's a little hidden gem off the main drag of downtown Delray. The food is always so fresh and delicious. The seafood is local yet still reasonably priced.
