Im fairly new to the Area as I moved here from Queens this September after buying our first house. Growing up I spent a lot of time in North Carolina and absolutely loved the small diners there with great food and that real family feel. Since September my girlfriend and I had not tried any of the diners out here. I have driven past Jimmy's so many times and never thought to stop in. Today I did and all I have is regret that I hadn't stopped in sooner. The food was excellent and the staff was very polite and friendly. i'm guessing they have 4.5 stars for not killing people. that's cool. it's basic standard breakfast. so i guess for that i should give a higher rating and yes, french toast can be screwed up but i'm not interested in giving 5 stars for adequate. i was really looking forward to loving this spot and finding a hidden gem in mastic shirley but the service was unfriendly, the counter was sticky, i had to ask a few times for a fork.... for food that was responsibly priced and served hot but i could have made at home and eaten off of a clean surface. with a fork. read more

Somebody HAS rated this place already, and that person is John D. (Though regulars peppered the narrow little place on a weekday, I didn't even know this was here til their fairly new signage was erected.) While I'm not sure that it's well-known enough for that to be 'hard to believe', I'm also uncertain that it is as widely reviled as many joints within spitting distance. That's not to say it doesn't have potential to be fulsome on an off day for Jimmy's or a bad day for you, however, as the experience can get a little overwhelming, from the gravel lot to the narrow hear-everything-fellow-patrons-are-saying ambiance. The wind outside whipped everything in Jimmy's all over the place, but it was still kind of endearing in a homey, aunt-Linda-serving-you-breakfast-at-a-counter kinda way. Jimmy's Diner is fairly innocuous, far as diners go, with a inoffensive "decor" and a contrived menu (albeit with all the classics and some solid grub). In the same vein, it's cash only and the wait staff knows 90% of the clientele, yet even newcomers are "honey". Came in for a quick bite ten minutes before closing, yet no one was in a rush to split, as the staff chatted it up with customers instead of bringing me a check. One topic of conversation was the name-unknown-to-them Farm Country Kitchen in Riverhead, a good sign by any means, but the "breeze" took hold of everything else and threw folks off course. My tasty Hank's omelette special with some rye toast set me back $7.55 and came with all things I have at home - tomatoes, baby spinach, & mozzarella cheese - but that's not the point of diners (good ones, at least). read more

I love Jimmys! fun,friendly atmosphere. Delicious homestyle food. Pancakes are especially fantastic there, so soft and flavorful. I try to get over there about once every two weeks. Price is quite reasonable, and its nice to go to a place where the staff is having fun and treating every customer like family. read more

I have been coming here since I was a kid. The place is super tiny and is CASH ONLY but the food is AMAZING! Staff is always super friendly and accommodating. Each time I go I order breakfast and I think the portions are huge. Coffee is always fresh. Even when busy it's not too long of a wait for a table. Love Jimmy's! read more

Lived in mastic Shirley my entire life and somehow at 24 years old this was my first time. It will surely not be my last. Walked in sat down at a table in the back drink order was immediately taken and served quickly. Ordered the omelette with ham peppers and onions with a hash brown and whole wheat toast. 5 minutes tops I had my food and it was delicious. I was the only person in there they didn't know my name. Atmosphere is as friendly as could be and super comfortable. Coffee was great as well. Couldn't ask for more. Highly recommended for a quick easy delicious breakfast. Consistency is king. Always friendly, local service accompanied by a simple-'this is what we do' kind of menu. No need to dress up here, just make sure your pants have elastic because its so easy to pig out! This place is abnormally fair priced; and just good old fashioned quality food from your moms kitchen. You MUST try the rueben( greasy & delicious).Working crowd no matter what time of day comes here to eat well and get back to the grind. Jimmy's diner is a quiet gem I hope doesn't change too much! I moved to buffalo a Few months ago. I miss this place! Delicious egg sandwiches! I hate eggs and only eat steller sandwiches once in a while. Jimmie opened my eyes. I'm addicted and was a regular. The cooks so nice and would make me mashed potatoes and egg sandwiches as soon as they would open too. I love you guys, all the team that makes it what it is.
