This place was pretty awful in every possible way. Went on a Tuesday just after 11. Service was so bad: our waitress, while well-meaning, seemed really easily distracted and overwhelmed by just a few tables of service. Burnt our toast and then took about 10 minutes to replace it (while our eggs got cold as we waited to break the yolks)--and then took it out of the toaster herself with bare hands, not tongs. The entire meal took nearly an hour and a half with all the waiting! The food wasn't very good, either. Much of it wasn't seasoned: the eggs were bland, the hash browns coated in cheap butter. And the prices are higher than they should be. You think you're maybe getting a solid deal, or a lot of food with the Classic Combo or Traditional Breakfast, but some of the sides are fairly small, like the (burnt) corned beef hash, and the eggs barely have any whites. Do yourself a favor and order some for the table to share. I was impressed by how fresh everyone's meals were, because with a franchised restaurant, you never know. First, apparently, in the town of Clifton Park, where this place is located, the bar for good food is rather low. How this place ends up with an average of 3 1\2 stars is amazing. There are mostly chain restaurants in the Clifton Park area especially around Exit 9 on the Northway so maybe this is the reason for the higher than deserved rating as people are traveling, hungry and this is an easy exit to get off so anything would taste good... As you can see, I struggle to figure out why this gets more than 1 star ratings. The day my wife and I went to this place, it was not very crowded, maybe that should have been a sign for us as it was right during the time most breakfast places are the busiest. We were seated right away by 2 friendly staff members and told to take a seat anywhere. Our server came promptly and poured me a week and bitter cup of warm, not hot, coffee. That is a sure sign for me that the meal is going to be mediocre, warning number 2. My wife ordered ice tea and she had to flag the server down to get it. The excuse, was that it was just made and still warm so she was letting it cool. Now, the right thing to have done was to tell my wife this and all would have been fine but that's not the case here, warning 3. The menu is extensive and there was plenty of what looked to be their signature dis he's to choose from buT my wife and I chose somethings simple, eggs, mine over easy and my wife had scrambled. We both got breakfast meat (sausage and bacon) and toast. We ordered sides, my wife got home fries and I got some fruit, pretty simple so far. Everything that came was ice cold, the eggs the meat the toast. Oh the toast, paper thin and was like it was warmed, not toasted, then buttered. The only thing that was acceptable was the fruit, not really that fresh but eatable. Our mistake was that we didn't send the entire thing back and walk out. Never again will we go there. I would suggest going to Snyder's or Halfmoon Diner, or heck Cracker Barrel for that matter, even they are better in my opinion. read more

It's better than an Ihop or Denny's. We had a party of 9 people. The waitress was quick with refilling our coffee and other drinks. I ordered the Jimmy Traditional I chose, two eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns, and a pancake. The bacon was super crispy (which I love!!) three slices of it, eggs were done correctly, hash browns were red potatoes which was interesting...they could've been cooked more because I like mine crispy, and they forgot my pancake which I probably wouldn't have ate anyways. Went there for the first time after wanting to go for quite sometime. First off our waitress was probably one of the worst I've ever had. We sat there for at least 10 minutes before she even approached us we told her we wanted coffee and 2 waters she said ok. She finally came back after another 10 minutes to take our order which we gave her and again asked for the water she said ok again. When our food finally came it was delivered by another person and mine was missing my hash browns so we told this person about the waters which we finally got. When they delivered my hash browns which I ordered crispy they weren't crispy at all and were filled with grease I couldn't eat them. My toast was burnt and my companion had an egg sandwich which she said was ok her hash browns were full of grease also. We asked for our check 2 times also and finally got it. What you get when you enter is what appears to be a modern Denny's(this is not a bad thing). The menu seems pretty large and the place seems clean(the place is new so who knows if it will last). Now here is where my experience gets interesting. We entered to a fairly slow restaurant say 6-8 tables with patrons.We were seated quickly,and that's when it all went south...... We waited quite a while for drinks(1-decaf,1-soda,2-waters). My wife ordered her water with lemon, nope, water only. As for my water, we had to ask for it at least 3 times. So after waiting for a bit our order is taken by a pleasant but,not cut for job waitress. So there we sit waiting.......3-4 tables clear out and are refilled with a new set of customers. 3 within eyesight get their meals and are preparing to leave. Still no chow.....45 minutes! Finally, We decide to "confront" the waitress.Now, I'm willing to pay for the drinks we received just cancel our order. We have to go looking for the waitress or manager because apparently we were in restaurant Siberia! Well as we are making dissatisfaction apparent with the manager our meal is ready!?! This place is like a nicer Denny's or could be considered very similar to a friendlys atmosphere. We went for New Year's Day for brunch and it was packed (as expected). But we got in with a party of four within 5mins, and had our drinks quickly, our food took over a half our to come but that was also expected with a new restaurant and a holiday. I had the backyard burger and it was honestly the most well cooked burger ive ever had, I ordered medium and it was fantastic. Definitely worth coming and seeing what they have to offer. read more

Ah, Jimmy's Egg, I so wanted to be impressed by you. Unfortunately, that was not to be. First of all, let me give you a little bit of background history of me and Jimmy's Egg. When I used to live in Oklahoma City in the 1980s, there was a little dive of a restaurant, started by Vietnamese immigrants in a rundown part of town, in an old hamburger stand that had been retasked as a breakfast and lunch place. Jimmy's Egg, on 10th and May in OKC, was the first of what now seems to be a large franchise business (with one franchise in Clifton Park.) I happened to live in Edmond, OK at the time, and would think nothing of driving 25 miles each way, because there restaurant spoke to me: Good food, lots of it, and biscuits and gravy. The biscuits and gravy turned me from a disbeliever in B/G into a proselytizer. The biscuits were made in house, a buttermilk biscuit, almost cake-like in consistency, and a perfect match for the sausage gravy (served in a large cup). Since moving away, I dreamed about those biscuits. I spent a lot of time and effort trying to recreate them, and have, after many attempts, learned to make a pretty good approximation. A few weeks ago, while attending a meeting in Clifton Park, I stumbled across the Yelp listing for Jimmy's Egg. I bookmarked the location, planning to visit and see if it lived up to my memory... Today, I made the visit. Sadly, I must report that the franchise does not hold a candle to the original. I ordered an omelet with B/G as one of the sides, home fries as the other. Black coffee as a drink. The biscuits were not house made, think of frozen Pillsbury biscuits you can buy at Walmart or Sams Club. The gravy was thick and hot. The home fries were burned black on some sides, uncooked on other sides. The omelet, while large, seemed to lack any flavor. The coffee, at least, was strong, but not too strong. Bill came to $13.25, I left a $2 tip. The B/G was not as good as that at the Hardee's franchise near Kingston.. At least, their biscuits are house made from scratch, not from frozen hockey pucks. The heirarchy of biscuits in my universe is now 1) My own homemade recipe, 2) Hardees, 3) McDonalds, 4) Pillsbury Hockey Pucks cooked in my own oven, 5) Jimmy's Egg So, now that I know, I will be foregoing the trip to Clifton Park, making a much shorter trip to Hardees instead. A lot of things that I remember fondly from the past now seem lessened by the passage of time. read more

They menu options are very extensive with to many good options for one meal. I was happy to be seated right away and served promptly. Menus cover a decent option of simple breakfasts, sandwiches and diner like fare. The spouse had a cheese steak sandwich with curly fries and a coke. Two stars -- lousy service, no complaints with the food. We stopped on a weekday morning, about 11:30, hoping to beat the lunch hour rush. The place was nicely full, but not packed or busy. We were told to seat ourselves, which we did, and waited at least 10 minutes for any attention. We were definitely seen by our "server" because she stood chatting with the gentleman across the aisle from us the entire time. Finally we ordered coffee, but weren't quite ready to order food. (Coffee was on the weak side, but the cups are nice and solid diner cups.) The waitress then disappeared. We sat for at least 15 minutes before we finally put an order in with another waitress. (In that 15 minutes our waitress paid at least two additional visits to the man seated across from us, and took an order from the couple behind us who came in after we did.) The food took about 15-20 minutes, and was delivered by a third waitress. Not once did our server show her face, even for coffee refills, which we had to flag her down and request. Needless to say, we had a bit of a wait to get the check as well. We felt bad for the other two girls who did most of the work, but our girl didn't get a tip. The food was good. The Santa Cruz sandwich arrived on a very fresh ciabbata roll, and the Ultimate Pancake breakfast was very tasty -- highly recommend the sweet potato panckes -- however the scrambled eggs were cold. The bacon was perfectly cooked. Probably will not visit again. Nice diner atmosphere and decent food, but lousy and seemingly disorganized service ruined our experience. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way home from Christmas break as this is a new breakfast (and lunch) place located just off the Northway. It was about 10am and the place was jamming. We sat at the counter. We both enjoyed watching the action in the kitchen and the hustle of the wait staff. We ordered water and coffee which was delivered quickly. The coffee was perfect - hot and good. I ordered bacon and eggs with a side of sweet potato pancakes and home fries. My fiancé ordered a veggie omelet home fries and fruit. The food came out in less than 10 minutes - I thought surprisingly fast for the crowd. All was delicious even the fruit and especially the pancakes. Way better than Denny's or IHop. Went on a Sayurday morning before 9 am. Seated immediately, coffee within 5 minutes. We ordered two traditional breakfasts. Hubby had sunny side eggs, sausage links, home fried potatoes, English muffin. I had two eggs scrambled, 3 slices of perfect crispy bacon, fresh fruit cup and mini buttermilk pancakes. My husband loved his and I enjoyed mine. Eggs were fresh, bacon was fantastic and the pancakes had wArm maple syrup on the side. The restaurant filled up after we eating but the waitstaff was attentive and free coffee refills a plenty. It took us a while to get there ...we'll be back. Two eggs over medium (perfectly done) with generous portions of fried potatoes & outstanding corned beef hash, plus toast and really good coffee = $11.28 plus tax. All new and bright. Very friendly and attentive staff. Open early (6AM) but close early, also (2PM). Very worthy competitor for all of the other local breakfast/lunch joints.
