I moved away from Boston almost 5 years ago now, but used to frequent Jim's when I lived here, and it hasn't changed one bit. You're always greeted with a smile, they make delicious food to order, fast, and you get a hearty good-bye when you leave. I've never had a bad thing here. It gets packed for breakfast, but it pretty much always seems to have a steady flow of traffic. Today, I had the sirloin tip kebab wrap - yummmm. My husband had the Santa Fe wrap - it was his first time here and he gives it 5 stars as well. I had to stop myself from getting Mac & cheese cuz I knew I wasn't hungry enough, but it's soooo good!!! I'm not from Boston, but I feel comfortable making the claim that Jim's Deli is a staple in the Brighton breakfast and lunch scene. I could have not even gone inside and never eaten here, and yet I would still feel comfortable making that claim. The line was very long, and not one person seemed bothered by it. That's the sign of a good restaurant; when people are willing to wait. I ordered the french toast, a big player in the breakfast game, and was duly pleased. Jim's Deli is the type of place where when I take my friends or family members and they ask 'what do you recommend?' or 'whats good on the menu?' I reply with 'EVERYTHING'. You really cant go wrong at Jim's, everything is delicious. Breakfast, lunch or dinner they do it all and they do it very well. Eggs Benedict is a must for brunch, the Buffalo Chicken Wrap is top notch, their Meatloaf is killer and the Brisket is great The restaurant has a real neighborhood feel and the employees make everyone feel like it's their corner spot. Just what I want from my Boston neighborhood deli. While I've only lived in Boston for about 4 weeks, I started coming to Jim's Deli 10 months ago. Every stop to his shop (I'm guessing I've gone about 40 or so times) has left me a completely fat and happy camper. The food is always consistent, the portions are beyond generous, and they treat me like family. I almost always go for breakfast, so I've tried most of their breakfast items, which are all delicious. I'm partial to my made-to-order omelet with turkey, feta, and jalepenos (really it's amazing), but I haven't gone wrong - whether I was ordering a breakfast sandwich or blueberry pancakes. The Reuben is perfect. Steak tip caesar is pretty awesome.The Mac and Cheese makes me want to give up my quest to be healthy and consume it every day. Came here looking for a greasy Saturday brunch, and got exactly that. I ordered the hash & eggs with a side of sausages and it was exactly what I was expecting. It seems like Jim's has an unspoken code of conduct; when you walk in, immediately grab a tray and utensils and get in line to order. Was here a few weeks back w some buddies and just as good as always. It's not a place for everyone if you're out of shape and don't like to stand and wait in line, cafeteria style. But they have so many options and the quality and portion size is great. Large cups of water for the taken at the cashier, great iced coffee. Tip: Order it to-go and sit down and eat it in the to-go box. Easier than carrying a big tray around when it's packed there and more space at their tables. read more

This is quite the unique joint. Jim's is a classic diner with comfort food. The place to go for a hearty homestyle meal. It's cafeteria style and you 'll think you're back at the college dining hall, except it's cozier. You go to Jim's when you want the pot roast with mashed potatoes, the fried chicken, or a fresh cheeseburger, or chicken sandwich. They close a bit early on the weekends which is not so convenient, but during the week it's open until 9pm and the prices are not so bad. The people there are nice, too. read more

LOVE Jim's! I've been going here for almost 3 years and love this place. If you introduce yourself to Jim, he will not forget your name. (Tell him your fave band is also Van Halen and you got a friend for life). I am forever in debt to my co-worker who brought me here for lunch on my 2nd day. The cheeseburgers are gigantic and very yummy. The fries are good too and cheers to Omar for always giving me extra. The staff is the best. Everyone from Jim to Leo to Edgar To Omar and Vaso are always friendly. Leo always overtly hits on me but then shows me pictures of his girlfriend and baby so it's all in good fun. Te amo Leo! (you can also practice your high school spanish while waiting in line). I've been here for breakfast but its always crowded and doesn't have the same vibe as a weekday lunch or dinner. Also...Jim's brother Nick is usually working the weekend mornings and he isn't quite as friendly as everyone else. (But to be fair...I'd be more than a little annoyed serving hung over BC kids all day). Although he usually is in a better mood on the weeknights. My faves: cheeseburger, chicken deluxe, fish sandwich. They also have daily specials made fresh by Vaso (Jim's mom) every morning. Once again...LOVE Jim's! These guys make my favorite breakfast in the whole world, but only on the weekends. That's okay, though, because it forces me to take the time to sit and savor it. Eggs Benedict. Look, I know we here in America know Benedicts historically as traitors, but give an egg a chance. Soft boil it for a minute, place it on a nice round of Canadian bacon nestled on a warm English muffin, and then layer it with delicious, creamy hollandaise (they will give you extra if you ask, and you WANT that extra for the home fries), and you have yourself a plate of deliciousness you'll never forget. This is the only place where I've never gotten a tough yolk or a runny egg. Their Benedicts are always perfect. The guys behind the counter are such archetypes it's awesome. The owner is always on-hand, cooking and barking orders and acting like the top dog, but he's a good guy and he always acts like a friend. He's got a line cook that tumbles with him, and the two of them are legit. Their cashier is a younger guy who likes to flirt with the ladies, but it adds to the character of the place. Okay, back to the food... Their burgers are big, tasty, and cooked to order. I've never gotten a dry burger here, and I've tried the mushroom swiss, the straight-up, ones with bacon and all sorts of custom toppings...They will put whatever you want on it. Sandwiches? Toasted, slathered in toppings, always delicious. You can take one of the chicken parm sandwiches home, toss it in the fridge, reheat it later and it's still good. The secret here is the quality ingredients. They source from the joint two doors down, Johhny D's, and they are one of the best local grocery stores I've been to. Since moving to Brighton, these are the only two places I'll go. Come and grab brunch with me sometime; just look for the chick with the weird-colored hair. Food is great but the men behind the counter - not so much. My good friend and her girlfriend were in line and while waiting - they exchanged a kiss. The man behind the counter said to the man in front of them "only in America" and they both rolled their eyes. They said it loud enough so that the entire restaurant was staring at them. I went back to Jim's again tonight while waiting for my laundry to finish. I got another buffalo chicken sandwich and my girlfriend got a cheeseburger. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place. The portions you get are ridiculously huge, delicious, and well priced. 7.50 for a HUGE chicken sammich plus a heaping amount of fries? 4.5 stars really. I finally found a reuben sandwich that met my expectations today at Jim's Deli. Thanks to Andy for perusing the internet on his G1 and finding this place! The place is really old school, which makes it amazing! It reminded me of my childhood lunch dates with my gram. Cafeteria style and you get to watch the food cooking. The food is really good, cheaper and tastier than anything Brookline. We got out of there for about $13 total including fries and drinks for each of us. Also, at noon on a Sunday, there was plenty of yummy looking BC eye candy eating breakfast foods. The comfortable red vinyl booths looked well cared for and were bussed expediently. Stopped by Jim's for a late lunch the other day with my partner. We both got sandwich plates, the Reuben and something else that I can't recall the name, but it had jalapeño poppers on it. Both were scrumptious! We were stuffed to the brim but still were eying fellow customers' trays heaped with breakfast burritos, meatball subs, and more, yum! Amazing, really. A solid brunch at Jim's has saved me from many a hangover on a Sunday morning. I usually go the Turkey-Bacon-Cheddar melt route, but I've heard that just about everything there is great. Splurge on the spicy fries (totally worth the extra $1.25). My roommates and I usually hit up the Washington St. Starbucks-Jim's takeout-Friends DVDs trifecta, but eating there is really fun as well. They definitely have a strong base of regulars, including the guy sitting next to us last time. He had a giant platter of every type of breakfast meat imaginable, replete with eggs and hash browns, topped with mustard. Whatever floats your boat, I guess, but he said that the guys at Jim's had created it just for him, so they do value their loyal customers. Anyways, local delis of this sort abound in the Boston/Brighton area, but Jim's definitely tops the list for the best place to get a sandwich. Also, there is almost always somewhat of a line on weekend mornings, but they make the food quickly nonetheless and it never seems to be much of an issue (I'm looking at you, Eagle's Deli). read more

This is one of my favorite places in the area for honest, inexpensive food. It is a deli with rotating cafeteria-style specials. The sandwiches and salads are all good and well-prepared, and they have a crack-like house Greek dressing that's good on pretty much everything. However, what sets Jim's apart are the specials. Everything is homemade and excellent. Among the mains, the steak tips, the roast beef, the meatloaf, the spanakopita, and the chicken pie are notably good. The mac and cheese--especially when they serve buffalo chicken mac or taco mac--is always an excellent choice as a side. The rotating homemade soups are also very satisfying. Another thing that sets Jim's apart is the friendliness/enthusiasm of the servers as well as their flexibility. The menu is very customizable. The food is really good and the prices are very fair for what you are getting. Now why I won't give it five stars; the difference in service between lunch and night time is literally day and night. Perfect place for a sandwich and fries if you're in Brighton! I had the chicken deluxe plate and my boyfriend had the buffalo chicken plate. It's worth noting that I love and support many hole in the wall venues throughout the city. Indeed, my favorite Turkish restaurant is not high end but rather authentic and fast. The same is true for my favorite local Thai restaurant which even comes with a separate Thai only menu. I walked to Jim's in order to dine with my friend who was visiting from Toronto. This was his selected restaurant after being away from the Boston metro area for approximately six months. That's fairly high praise, right? This brunch reminded me that greasy spoon places are distinct from hole in the wall, start up restaurants. My friend ordered the chicken parmesan omelet which came with home fries and toast. I opted for steak tips and eggs because it seemed to be the only non-lactose option on the menu. Mine also came with toast and home fries. The portions are generous. The steak was tough and not of high quality. My sunny side up eggs went to the hipster college student standing in front of my friend in the queue. It seemed too busy to intercede as the line behind us was long. I think that my friend's omelet seemed to be of higher quality. If I went to this venue again, I'd recommend the eggs or omelet dishes. read more

When I first moved here I stumbled upon Jim's and expected maybe a halfway decent BLT. That sandwich is hard to mess up, and I didn't want to waste a dollar on a mediocre sandwich. I felt guilty for my low expectations after trying their food. I guess I should continue to not judge books by their color, or a restaurant by its kinda weird looking green awning. Jim's "The Fusion" was a bright shining moment of food heaven amidst a hundred still packed boxes, eaten on top of a clothes trunk. That wrap is near perfect - onion rings, green peppers, chicken, cheese. Spicy, hot, gooey perfection. And as many have mentioned already the food is portioned for a football player, so a normal person can eat twice. The service is awesome, always very friendly. You feel like a regular, even if you're only there once in a while. This is one local business to treasure - don't go to a chain if you're in the area, this place has excess character and flavor and value. read more

I'm another person who discovered Jim's Deli from the Phantom Gourmet. Went a lot when my fiancee lived in Brighton but haven't been back in a year or so. I have been craving one of their Chicken Deluxe Sandwiches for a while so we stopped in for lunch while running errands today. This sandwich is almost embarrassingly big and overstuffed. I tried rearranging the bread for better coverage and ended up with chicken cutlet all over my plate. I persevered though and managed to finish it, plus most of my fries. Despite the large, delicious portions and cheap prices, the best part about Jim's Deli is the service. I've never failed to have a friendly person take my order and the food is cooked up right in front of you and very quickly. Today we actually realized that the place had closed up while we were eating. Nobody hassled us or gave us dirty looks, we were left to our conversation and food. The only complaint I have, and it's extremely minor, is that the whole menu isn't really visible while you're waiting to order. read more

I didn't get breakfast when I went here... I got the buffalo chicken sandwich. It was more than I could handle. This sandwich was packed with so much chicken that I gave up eating it like a sandwich. I'm sure the breakfast is tasty but this sandwich was quite the meal. The assembly line can go pretty fast so be prepared. Its a small place and can get busy but we still managed to snag a table. Being a former three year resident of Brighton Center, I can honestly say that this is by far the place I miss the most. It's not fancy cuisine, but it's excellent comfort food all around. They feature a fixed menu of sandwiches, burgers, and wraps, but also have rotating daily specials that are served old school cafeteria style. While I admit I haven't tried a lot of items on the menu, I was lucky enough to find a favorite and just stuck with it. I always get a roast beef sandwich on a sub roll with a small side of macaroni and cheese. The portions are huge and the prices are low, so small sizes are usually enough even for big appetites. The steak and cheese sub is also really good as well. Finally, half of the reason I frequent this place is to interact with the staff. They are all very friendly, and get to know you and your order inside-out. This is a great asset to the Brighton Center neighborhood, and I hope it stays around for a long time to come. read more

I recommend looking at their menu online before going- the selection is huge and the line is fast-moving, so you might need some preparation (if you're anything like me and freeze under the pressure of not knowing what to order). My absolute favorite sandwich spot. There is no question about it, I do not know of a single place better than this place. The Cuban wrap and the spinach and chicken wrap are incredible. The owner and the staff are the most attentive, most friendly people you will ever meet. They really define what it means to go above and beyond to serve customers, and they deserve all the praise in the world for it. I love this spot, and it really needs way more recognition and praise than it currently receives. So good and wow- loved everything here . This was my first time here and I felt a little overwhelmed as to what to get - the menu is huge and very diverse. I ended up with a mushroom burger and some home fries and they were amazing. My son ordered a Greek omelet and fries and he loved it. The place is beat and tidy and the service is swift . The food here is amazing, but one of the staff members was extremely rude to me, IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS, as well. They messed up my order and I simply did not want to have to pay for their mess up. He explained to me the mess up and I explained that they should really fix their sign because it's misleading. He then continued to talk down to me until I told him firmly for the 3rf time that I understood. The man ringing me out then raised his voice and said "well it always has to be your way doesn't it." I should have known that going in but got a hot pastrami anyway, and daughter got the Sicilian.
