Came to Jines for dinner last night. My friend and I both ordered simple wraps and waited at least 30 minutes for our food. When the food came out, they made the wrong sandwich for my friend (but the right one for me), and the waitress made a point to ask every single person eating outside if they had ordered the food- and took my sandwich away! Our server came over and apologized for the mix up, said something got messed up in the kitchen, and assured the correct dish was on its way. When we got the food, it was pretty good. I had a turkey avocado wrap and My friend had a SantaFe wrap. However, when we received the check, the wrong sandwich was on the bill, which was A) more expensive and B) proof that our waiter rang in the wrong food, not the kitchen making the wrong thing. Not only were we served the wrong food, the waiter didn't double check our bill, leaving us with a more expensive bill. A pretty weird experience on park ave. read more

Had supper there tonight after going downtown to see a movie. Order liver and onions and most of it was raw. Waitress asked if I wanted it cooked more. I said no as my appetite went away. I told her I would feed it to my dogs. Upon paying my bill the hostess finally asked if she should do something about it. I feel the waitress should have. I just said no and stated I wouldn't come back. Very pricey for 2 meals to have it undercooked. read more

Literally the worst service ever. Didn't even eat-waited a half hour for table for 3 and watched everyone come in after us sit down and eat. I don't understand even a little bit why people think this place is good. Did it used to be awesome before they kidnapped the head cook from Denny's and chained him to the stove at Jines? Was he the one that brought all the black flies that insisted on keeping us and our food company while we were eating? This was just okay. No cocktails just beer and wine. Three different dishes ordered and all were just alright. Nothing special at all.

Not the best experience. Hostess was "fake nice". Bus boy was not friendly. Waited almost 30 minutes for order to be taken. It was not busy. Almost walked out. Finally a server came over, was not welcoming and she did not say her name, just said "what are we having?" and offered coffee which I declined. Then it took a really long time to get my food and when I did, it was not good or appetizing, plus Toast was burnt. Then a table full of people sat next to me and I observed an entirely different demeanor of the staff towards them. They were very friendly and attentive to them. Jines is a wonderful place for breakfast. I've been going there fore over 20 years, on and off, and it's always a real pleasure. Consistently delicious, a happy experience, with good (sometimes great) service. I think it depends who you get. Jines is much better than Charlies Frog Pond (next door), in my book. I have been polite to friends who prefer the Frog Pond and eaten breakfast there a couple of times while glancing over at the neighbors jealously. People seem to prefer one or the other. I would definitely go with Jines. The omelets are terrific (I recommend anything with feta and the "bacado" special -- avocado and cheddar and bacon!) and the waffles are spot on, too. At Jines, I am a creature of habit so I can't comment on many other items. Good peeps there. Clean bathrooms. Nice to dine outside. Recommended with confidence. read more

Awful service. My mom got a broccoli burger and it was raw; I tried it myself. She informed the server and the cook came over to hear it for herself and was very dismissive. After our meal I passed by the bar where our server was exclaiming to another employee how "this woman ate literally 95% of her broccoli burger and then said she hated it." I am completely disgusted by the lack of respect the servers have for their customers and will never be returning. read more

I gotta tell you, we've order take out twice and dined-in multiple times. The first time our chicken was fresh however this time has made me look at chicken differently. My wife dragged me there late two nights ago after an event. Being vegetarian in a classic "family" restaurant, the pickings were slim. Was I surprised to find a broccoli tofu burger. After holding the Russian dressing, this thing tasted and felt like smushed tofu, I.e. Cardboard. 4 stars for the effort + two stars for the product= three. But frankly I won't go back. read more

Enjoyed a birthday breakfast with a group of friends on a day off from work.Orders ranged from omelettes to pancakes to French toast. Everyone was pleased! Service was good. Coffee was plentiful. A very pleasant experience. I find their breakfasts better than lunch and dinner meals. I have eaten here twice. I really wanted to like this place as it has a great location in the beautiful Park Avenue neighborhood. Obviously my first experience was not that great. My food was ok and the service was ok. My second, and last time I ate here was something else. I came here for Breakfast with my elderly Mother and my children. After waiting about twenty minutes, we were seated at a somewhat clean booth. The table was still wet with chemicals, as it was just cleaned. But, as soon as I sat in the booth, I realized we were sitting in very unclean seating. Crumbs, and ketchup galore. Kinda tacky. Our server, who seemed stressed, and maybe hungover, took our order in a manner in which I felt as if we were bothering her. After about a 15 minute wait (pretty quick as the place was packed) our food arrived. Now here comes the big disappointment. My children ordered pancakes and a waffle. The pancakes were absolutely flat, and the waffle was rock hard. Needless to say the majority of their food was not eaten. I had the "eggs michael." The dish is poached eggs, ham, mushrooms, and chedder atop english muffins, and covered with hollandaise sauce. Sounded great to me, but....the muffin was burned, the ham was tough, the mushrooms lacked any kind of seasoning, and the poached eggs were poorly done. I had one egg that was pretty much boiled completely, and the other egg was practically raw. Perhaps the worst part was the hollandaise sauce...It was very thick, and tasted like margarine and some kind of powder. I would not even dare to call it Hollendaise sauce. My mother had an omelet, that she said was burned and tasted bad. Not to mention the COLD toast that came with it. Our beverages were never filled, and our waitress seemed to be missing. She came by later stinking like an ashtry and dropped our bill. Did not even inquire about our satisfaction. Perhaps the worst part of this experience, the main reason i came here to write this, is what we overheard sitting at our booth. Our booth must have been on the opposite side of where all the servers hang out. Not sure if they are aware, but we can hear them talking...SO, while we were not enjoying our food, we got to hear the staff talk about their previous evening. I will not bother to get into detail, but what we heard was disgusting. Swear words, mixed into a conversation about some kind of sexual encounter. This is NOT what I or my family want to hear on a Sunday Morning. I am glad my kids are the age, in which they did not understand what they were saying. But I sure did, and I do not want to here about drunken one night stands while I try to eat with my family. Bottom Line: I will never come back here. The food was bad, and the staff lack any type of professionalism. Also, the prices are rather high for bad food. read more

Do you have a big family visiting from out of town or a big group of people who want to have breakfast together? Jines is pretty much ideal for these purposes. You can reserve a breakfast table for LARGE groups of people and the service doesn't suffer. Pancakes are a must at Jines. They are certainly above-average with interesting spins and the omelettes are large, moderately-priced and don't disappoint. The place isn't stunning inside - it's like a Perkins - and the prices aren't staggeringly cheap. But it's not expensive, the location is a plus in the summer and the staff accomodates large groups. The quality is consistent. You know what you're getting. There is definite merit to that. And you're not completely squashed (ahem, Jim's) or sweating in a flurry of activity (James Brown). For this, you will trade in dirt cheap prices and wildly creative concoctions. A good choice for breakfast. If you can find parking! read more

Maybe its the location, maybe it's the sizable menu, maybe it's the least offensive place in a list of options provided by someone else. I don't hate the place, it's just there. I had the falafel pita. It was good but not one of the best I've had. The falafel kept rolling out every time I set it down, this doesn't happen at other restaurants with the same dish so that was annoying. It was also lacking some flavor. When I asked for a box to go, the waitress took the food and when she brought it back, she had thrown out my fries! Why would she think that I would want part of my meal thrown in the garbage? I paid for it, I even purposely left half so I could eat them later. Otherwise the service was quick and friendly. The BBQ sauce is disgusting. It's homemade and tastes like ground kidney beans with ketchup sauce. Maybe they should splurge and buy some sauce. We also ordered a side, $4 for a very tiny tiny portion, I was disappointed. We came here to celebrate my husband's job promotion, and end of the year with school, etc. We were seated right away outside, and were very happy. Ended up waiting for almost an hour for our food, and my husbands' steak was overdone. Waited another 15 minutes for his steak to be cooked as ordered. Been to Jines twice and the second time was because friends wanted to go. The first experience I had it was just ok, there are too many things on the menu to make anything stand out it seems. The second time we chose to eat outside as opposed to a longer wait time and we were basically forgotten about. Jine's has to be the most overrated business in Rochester. Having gone there for dinner 3 times, I was less than pleased on each occasion.. On my last outing, I ordered a beef on wicke and an order of Buffalo Chicken Wings. My shaved beef came on a hamburger bun and I had to ask for dipping sauce. When my chicken wings came, they were sweet wings. Neither dish which have their origins in Buffalo had any resemblance to what the dishes are supposed to be. My final comment to the waiter: please ask your cook to go to Buffalo so that he can see how the dishes should be made. I was very disappointed with the meal and vowed never to go back. read more

I have eaten at Jines numerous times and have never been disappointed. There are A LOT of options and it can get overwhelming... That being said though, usually there is always an option to please everyone in my crew. We love Jines. The menu is extensive, and all the items we have ordered have been excellent. Bacon not exactly to your liking? They will fix. While we absolutely love their breakfast selections, we have eaten there for lunch and dinner...breakfast is best for sure. Parking is what it is, for being on Park Ave, and there is outdoor seating in good weather. Peter and the rest of the team work hard to provide a high level of service...never had a clunker server yet. Like most places that serve good food at reasonable prices, there can frequently be a wait to get a table. So for those who don't find Jines to their liking, please consider going somewhere else, so the wait will be shorter for the rest of us! Jk..sort of. read more

We enjoyed the breakfast menu...but be prepared to wait on Sat Sun mornings. Otherwise, nice place and great food.
