After a FUHREEZing day - brick outside ked type day shopping in NY, as the lady says we always try to find a new spot to try out. We headed to Jersey for some korean cuisine (love me some korean food). Tang Maru has plenty of parking in a shared plaza parking lot. Valet even during certain times / days. Firstly the banchan was so yummy, the cabbage and tofu was a repeat highlight for refills. I also enjoyed the pickled jalapeños. We ordered 2 combos which seamed like the best bang for the buck to try multiple items. Ordered the following: - Seolleongtang + pancake (add for seafood) $22.99 - soon tofu stew + kalbi $32.99 Both soups were prepared with that good home type feel. Made with care, everything presented well and comes with a side of purple rice. Both types of soup had its very own depth of flavors. Seolleongtang had a cleaner style flavor tofu and broth felt light but full of the ox bone taste coming thru. The soontofu, spicy (i think she gave us regular spice i don't recall specifying the level) and it was perfect balance between spice that complimented the silky tofu. The seafood was generous, shrimp, squid, mussels, clam, octopus. YUM! The pancake was tasty, not overly fried or greasy. THe galbi?????? FIRE. It was so tender, supreme marination on display. Flavor was so good! The highlight was the owners. The wife is definitely the face of Tang Maru. Her customer service is bar none. She is like your favorite auntie inviting you over for YOUR bday dinner haha. The hubby was quiet and was watching some kdrama at the worn desk (don't blame him it was late night). Fun place i bet during peak times on the weekend. Plenty of soju to go around! Will definitely stop back in! Thank you!

The galbi here is a bit sweeter and has more texture than other places, which is a nice change of pace. Tofu stew is not as salty as other spots, so you can add salt to your own taste preference. The bonchon selection was good as well as the seafood pancake. They offer combos here which is cool. The spicy stir fried pork belly was delicious. Would definitely get that again. Service here was really good as it is family run. The lady and who may be the son?, working there were very interactive with our son who is 14 months old and just starting to learn to walk confidently in public. Really sweet interaction. Will be back!

Food was good. Home cook style. Love the broth. Service was on the slower side as it's a mom and pop place. But they were so nice. Place gives you a bit of semi Korea feel. A local spot to hit after snowboarding and on the way home.

The soups we got were all super flavorful and I can tell they were made with love and attention. Broth had a deep flavor profile, we got the seolleongtang, bulgogi, and cold noodles. Their seafood pancake was surprisingly crispy and fluffy. We also tried their braised ox tail dish and although the meat was tender and marinade had a nice balance of sweetness, the quantity of meat for $60 was disappointing. Their prices overall is on the higher side which is why I gave them a star less. Their basic seolleontang soup with 3 very thing slices of beef and some noodles came out to $16. Owner is super nice though and is constantly asking if we need refills on side dishes.

This place is great. Good, affordable food. Great service. Nice ambiance. If you need help, ask for a recommendation. Visit once and you'll want to visit again.

I finally got the chance to dine in and I think I have found my new go-to Korean spot in the area. The takeout was already good, but eating it fresh was (obviously) even better. To start, they bring you banchan. The banchan was slightly different that what they gave us for takeout. It was even better. They gave us these plates of tofu and it might be the best tofu I have ever eaten in my life. It was silky smooth, but doesn't easily break apart when you try to pick it up, and is topped with some gochujang and green onions. We ordered 3 lunch specials and a japchae. The lunch specials are a great deal because you can get a combo of a main and tofu soup, appetizer, or seolleongtang. We had tofu soup + seafood pancake, tofu soup + galbi, spicy pork + seollongtang. My favorites were the galbi and the japchae. The galbi isn't your traditional galbi but is stir-fried in sauce. It's not a bad thing, but just not what we were expecting. Between the four of us, we had a good amount of leftovers to take home. Can't wait to come back!

I am a soup fiend, and now I know if I want good Korean soups I will definitely be back!! Service was friendly, and the restaurant itself was pretty spacious. There is a free parking lot on the side. The banchan offered was also a good combination for soup. -Spicy Black Goat Stew: 5/5. Wowow, so flavorful! Meat was not gamey at all and the dipping sauce elevates the whole dish. Perfect for a cold day (or any day if you enjoy soup as much as I do ‍) -Seafood pancake: did not get to try as I'm allergic, but friend said it was chewy and tasty -Squid Hot stone Bibimbap: 4/5, friend initially ordered chicken bibimbap but equally enjoyed the squid ty for reading, ok byee

Been coming here at Tang Maru but here's an updated review four years later! Obviously, if we're coming back the food is still as enjoyable as when we first visited! Learning and remembering from our first experience, i get the spicy pork belly hot stone now! Lol it is just so good and flavorful! I love the dance of ingredients here and the generous portions! The level of spiciness is just the right heat for me to actually still have that kick but also enjoy the food without having to constantly stop to drink and exhaust that fire lol The seafood pancake is also still our go to appetizer. Perfectly cooked and not stingy of the seafood. You get a nice flavor of the scallions too! We also got the Seolleong tang as it was a combo with the haemul pajeon but it wasnt one of those flavorful broths. To be honest it was quite bland! Lol however it wasnt too bad. Not really. I guess we really just wanted hot soup for the cold weather and didnt really matter what we got. But maybe next time we will try another one. Coz we'll be back again for sure! And oh btw, the parking lot right beside the restaurant is sooo convenient! And place isnt really packed every time we visit so service is usually quick! Perfec

I wasn't wow'd by my Dolsot Bibimbap and I suspect might have ordered the wrong entree at Tang Maru. Soups appeared to be the common theme at most tables but then again my dining partner who ordered the Ox Tendon Soup said it was nothing special. The Seafood Pancake was very sizable with a decent amount of squid tentacles and nothing else I could decern. The service was good and the atmosphere was typical dark wooden tables and chairs and frigid temps, seemingly a norm in Korean eating establishments. For a Saturday afternoon, it was kind of empty. Tried it. Not for me. Moving on.

Absolutely amazing and fresh food. Great service, the owner and employees are so friendly. They make you feel as if you are eating in their house. Being a vegetarian I loved the sides they start you off. I also ordered jap Chae- very good. And their tofu gop dol with homemade red pepper sauce. If you like spicy, ask for their VERY spicy hot sauce. Will definitely be going back here!

Your average Korean comfort food restaurant. Nothing to rave about since the food is so so. My fave was the banchans since they give you tofu which is something more unique compared to other restaurant and the kimchi radish was great. Here's what we got: - gamjatang 4/5: meat falls off easily, relatively big portion, soup base is on the lighter side, not as rich flavor - combo set of soontofu (3/5) & seafood pancake (4/5): soontofu was missing an oomph in flavor, don't know how to describe it but it's relatively light too and the seafood pancake was enjoyable as it was lightly crisp. Medium thickness for the pancake Service was attentive and great here!

The hot pot was so yummy. The rice that crisped up on the bottom was amazing! Crunchy and full of flavor. The service was great and the owner even came over to our table to check how our food was. That was very special.

1st time here. People here are super nice and so accommodating. Food.. could be better. Liked the pajeon( scallion pancake) which was crispy and moist and flavorful. Galbi and squid pork dish was ok but.. a bit too sweet. Tofu soup(soondubu) was.... meh. ByOB and decent prices

The Budae Jjigae was savory comfort, and the Shin Ramen Fried Rice was not only abundant, but served in an adorable heart shape. Even the Kimchi Stew and Gyeran-jjim were more umami than the countless counterparts I've had elsewhere. On top of that, we got more ban chan than an attention-starved halmoni hosting her first family reunion in 10 years. Everywhere I pointed my chopsticks, I touched food. It was delightful. If I can ever gather enough people, I'd gladly infest this place again.

No matter how much salt/pepper I put in, there still didn't seem to be a lot of flavor. You order at the front and pick up your food when it's ready. It's actually a really convenient system, and since there is no table service, there's no expectation to leave a gratuity. The food itself is consistently good. The parking lot is very, very small and shared with the cafe next door, so parking can be a squeeze. Because it's so popular, it gets very busy during prime dining hours. Even when I've ordered takeout, there can sometimes be a decent wait to get your food so I recommend order online or over the phone ahead. They do charge a little extra if you pay with a credit card to cover the fees. If you visit during the summer months, you absolutely have to try the Naeng Myeon (cold noodle soup) or the Bibim Naeng Myeon (spicy cold noodles). Inside is small but clean and gives off traditional Korean restaurant vibe with of course Korean music. There were quite few Korean customers as well as staffs so i knew we were in the right place. They specialize in Korean beef soup. We ordered rice cake and dumplings and special beef rib soup. The fish came with purple rice and various kimchi and pickled veggies side dishes.
