There are plenty of places to go in NYC for a mani/pedi but if you really want it done the right way, go to Jin Soon. As soon as you walk in you know you are about to have a special experience. The staff are great - they are friendly, chilled out and so nice. The citrus tea that is offered is so refreshing and it's like you are on a mini-vacation as you sip it while you are having a pedicure. The quality of the work is amazing. My manicure and pedicure lasts and lasts so the extra money they charge here is honestly worth it. I chose this place as a birthday treat for my sister and me. It was a nice enough time, but I have regrets. We both had a regular mani and pedi with extra callus remover. Technicians were nice, polite, precise with applying the polish. Some weird things though - they did not ask up to pay before putting polish on our nails. We stayed extra long under the dryers - which you have to put on your lap?!! "SPA" IS NOT AN ACCURATE TERM. I am ok with the fact that it is very small (only 2 pedi chairs and 2 mani stations) but it clearly needs a good dose of TLC. Wallpaper was badly peeling in several areas. Avoid having to use the restroom - literally a tiny broom closet with buckets and mops to maneuver around. Also, the area where you select your nail polish is not lit well enough. I thought I had chosen a dark grey - florescent subway lights proved it to be a dark blue. Cost of 2 regular mani-pedi with callus remover was $70+ and then add tip. My basic mani Began peeling/chipping the next day, the polish application was sloppy & as others have said, they didn't ask for payment Prior to polish application! That was a first. The best pedicure of my life. There is only room for 2 at a time, which contributes to the intimate feel of the place. The Balm of Purity treatment is incredibly relaxing. I'm a fan of the hot cream they use when they're massaging your legs. The women who work here put much time and effort into making sure that you're comfortable and that your feet look perfect. They certainly go out of their way to make a pedicure feel like a day at the spa. To top it off, the pedicure lasts longer than any other that I've had. It's a keeper. read more

I have been here just once but went to the Great Jones location a couple times before I realized they had this one. It is my favourite pedicure place. I don't consider $32 to be expensive for a basic pedi, especially since the sanitation is much, much better than those sketchy places that offer $25 mani/pedis around the East Village. The manicurists at Jin Soon are always nice and skilled. They can usually get me in for a last minute appointment, too. And I give them a fourth star for décor, which has the soothing effect of a full spa. Only thing I haven't liked in the three or four times I've been there: This last time I added their extra callus treatment for $15 since my feet were terrible after weeks of traveling and wearing sandles. She did a good job on the calluses on the balls of by feet, but two days (of closed shoes) later my heels are just as rough as they were before. So I wouldn't recommend that add on. read more

No one does nails like them-I've also been to Jones St. Their standards blow the rest out of the water! I sometimes hand model and was recommended this place by an agent. I have been to all three Jin Soon locations and like them all about the same. The #1 thing that I need to know when I walk into a nail salon is that they're clean. Jin Soon definitely seems clean. They have a very wide range of nail polish colors and brands which is nice. Give yourself 10 minutes before your appointment to look through them all. That part takes me forever. A little pricey, but worth it given my paranoia with respect to nail germs. I will say that the level of care given by each technician is not all the same - some do a better job cleaning up the cuticles, etc. than others. The polish always looks great and shiny and in the many times that I've had my pedicures done there, I've never had a chip before taking the polish off myself 2 weeks later. Jin Soon is definitely one of the places I am going to miss when I leave NY. read more

This place is awesome, albeit expensive. I called for an appointment, but they were all booked and I was going to schedule a manicure for next day, but I then asked them to give me a call in case a slot opens up, and the lady said they would actually take me as long as I came in the next 10 min, which I did! Because they were all booked, I had my manicure in the waxing room, laying down in a chaise...it was super relaxing and awesome! Not a standard practice, I am sure, but it was nonetheless impressive that they were willing to go out of their way to accommodate me. The manicure itself was pretty much perfect. The lady cleaned my nails and got rid of dry cuticle; the oils used in the soak smelled nice and left my hands super soft, and the nail polish job was impeccable. They also have a ton of colors and brands to choose from--OPI, Essie, NARS, and Chanel, to name a few. A manicure is about $20-25, which is pricey, but definitely worth every dollar. Love love this place! Especially for a nice, relaxing pedicure. They offer several different types of foot soaks. Your feet and legs will thank you for taking the time and extra money to get pampered at Jin Soon. When you sit down they also offer you water and tea- my favorite is the orange zest tea. After searching for a good place to go for a mani/pedi on yelp, I stumbled across reviews for Jin Soon. I immediately booked an appointment. I went in for a mani/pedi and found the service to be impeccable. I chose the Balm of Purity service and it was fantastic! I agree with previous reviewers, this is not your typical quick mani/pedi. Expect to stay at least 2 hours (including drying time). I highly recommend Jin Soon for the service and ambiance. Jin Soon was my first spa experience (gasp!) since moving to NYC and I will definitely return . . . once I can save up for another trip here. read more

Jin Soon has been on my radar for awhile and I was excited when I finally convinced my friend to try the milk and honey manicure ($28). I recommend making an appointment since the salon is tiny (2 manicure chairs, massage area, a few pedicure stations) , however, they were able to accommodate us the same day. Good: - the technicians were pleasant and took their time - the lotions and scrubs they used were nice - great selection of nail polishes (Chanel, Estee Lauder, their own brand, OPI and Essie) Bad: - My $28 manicure started chipping when I got home and after 2 days it has chipped so much that I need to remove it. read more

However, this is not a great place to go when you're in a hurry, because it took me over two hours to get a basic mani/pedi and I was so restless by the end, I left with wet nails and instantly ruined my perfect manicure. Beautiful pedicure, distractable technician. First, definitely book an appointment, the place is small and intimate and its no fun tripping over everyone else at the door if you are a walk in. Second the space is beautiful and the pedicure is bliss. I went with my sister and we both walked out with beautiful feet. The only problem is that the person was working on my feet seemed to be doing double duty as the door/appointments person and kept interrupting an otherwise flawless pedicure to consult with colleagues, deal with the phone or some other task. This is the place to come to if you want to relax. The atmosphere is very calm and soothing. I've been to my share of nail salons and this one is different. You feel as if they're really taking the time to do your manicure and pedicure correctly. What a difference that extra time makes! My nails look absolutely fabulous! The price is definitely worth it. Jin Soon is clean and meticulous and super relaxing - lots of salons are so hectic that the manicure/pedicure seems rushed, but not here. Love sipping the calming tea as I get a pedicure and relax as I get pampered. Quality!! Sometimes I wonder how good it really is for your feet, when a used nail filer or worn out nail buffers are used on your tootsies. Then it all makes sense because your pedicure runs less than 20 dollars. You sign a waiver to be exposed to all types of fungus and bacteria when you step into a cheap salon. We're all guilty of this, but seriously, this place changed my mind. I really do like everything about this place. Usually I am in a rush during a manicure and pedicure and since visiting Jin Soon, I realize to slow things down and unwind in those chairs, feet soaked up in a peppermint hot bath and sipping tea. I love the service here and the location: a quiet, hidden location that relaxes me. They serve you this delicious orange honey tea with little bits of orange peels on the bottom of a mug. So good that I asked for a second. I got a basic pedicure and it was divine. I arrived at 6:15 and left an hour later, my drying didn't take much of the time since they used quick dry. Everything in the salon is high quality. CHANEL NARS ESSIE OPI in a neat organized shelf, the pumice stone is high quality, they use a strong aromatherapy oil, the instruments are high grade and the nail technicians are meticulous. My cuticles were checked 2x, and cleaned 2x to ensure that the corners of each toenail were even and cut. I loved the Borghese Foot Cream they use and a special balm for the balls of your feet. Amazing! A few years ago I found this place when looking for a super clean mani/pedi place. I admit to being a complete germaphobe, and it took me a while to find a place that fit the bill. Jin Soon is a place that's even more germaphobic than me - they actually DISCOURAGE you from bringing your own tools, because they're not as clean as theirs --- that's how I know this place was meant for me! They always clean the pedicure bowls in between each customer with ammonia, and any tool that can't be sterilized (clippers, etc), they toss after each use (nail files, buffers...). This is my favorite nail salon in NYC (this particular location). Yes, it's small (only two seats for pedi and two for mani) and not the typically fabulous spa, but that's what makes it even more inviting. The range of quality nail polish brands (Chanel, Givenchy, Jin Soon, and many more) is impressive. I agree that the manicurists are not super warm and expressive, but they take their work seriously. I once met the owner (Jin Soon), and she was very friendly and humble, and she made sure I was having a great experience at the salon. Again, if you want a spa that has all the phony bells and whistles, this is not for you. But, if you're looking for some peace and quiet while you get pampered, and a precise nail job, I recommend this spot. read more

I forgot how small/tight the space is and when you have 2 ppl waiting & 2 ppl sitting in the entry with their feet drying & 2 ppl getting a manicure, Ugh! So I'm getting my manicure and the technician is giving me a hand massage and is digging in to my outer bone on my palm so hard that it was uncomfortable. Assuming she knows what she is doing when giving a hand massage; now both of my hands are extremely sore/bruised! She also wasn't especially friendly. She did a decent job on my manicure but the topcoat was on my skin as I was able to notice when I arrived home. It was too dark there to notice and I had one of the last appointments of the night. Let's see how long my manicure will last. From my experience when the top coat is painted onto your skin, it's common that the manicure will peel early on. This place should probably consider not being open until it's remodeling is complete. It's super tiny, which is fine but it's super tiny with construction workers running around, blocking the entrance and front desk. I had to climb over another customer to get to my pedicure chair and then was left in the hallway with wet toes while my technician found an outlet to plug in the dryer. Everyone is in the way (including you) and it is anything but relaxing and calm. I felt like I was getting a pedicure on the F train at 5 pm. Seriously close up shop for a week, get all of your stuff done and then reopen. No customer wants to be a part of your makeover. read more

The intentions are good but the end results don't justify the price. My pedicure had a great feel with the massage. My nail tech just wasn't very good at painting my feet or my gel polish. I could tell that I wasn't going to be happy with my hands but after 2 hours I just wanted to get out of the tiny cramped place. I felt like I was in a box. Having read the NYT article about horrendous nail salon practices, I opted for a Jin Soon spa to avoid supporting abusive practices. This JS location is teeny tiny, and I'd suggest avoiding using their toilet if at all possible. If you're larger than a petite sized female, you will have difficulty using the facilities with the door locked. That said, the Milk & Honey manicures we had were pretty good. We found the pricing to be on par, or even slightly better than those in other North American cities, with a basic mani starting at $18. What I didn't like was the additional charge for buffing. Neither myself or my BF wanted polish, and this is the first spa we've encountered that charges an additional fee ($5) to swap polish for a buff. The girls at this location are pretty quiet and focused. They are speed demons when it comes to getting a treatment done, though I did not feel like any corners were cut. My manicurist took the time to trim, file, shape and buff, in addition to providing the hand and arm scrub that is part of the Milk & Honey treatment. The only negative, which has nothing to do with the staff was a very rude woman who loudly chatted on her phone while getting a pedicure. Due to the small space, her entire conversation could be heard and parts of here conversation were annoyingly vapid and at times, inappropriate - let's just blame the New Yorker in her for that one. All in all, a recommeded, tiny nail spa. read more

I go out of my way to come here every week and the one week I couldn't and went elsewhere, for two dollars less, I got an awful manicure so never again! Oh how I love this place. One of the best pedicures I ever got in my life.

I used to go to Jin Soon, and was getting incredible pedicures from a girl named, Akiko. They were the best pedicures I have ever had in my life. However, word of Akiko's talent caught on, and before you knew it, almost every customer was asking for her. Jin (the owner) then made the STUPID mistake of instituting a policy where no one could *EVER* request a specific girl! I pleaded with her to let me see Akiko....even saying that I would make the first appt. of the day, so that no one would know that I had requested her. Jin abjectlly refused. There is not one salon or spa in all of NYC that doesn't allow you to request the person of your choice!! Her absurd policy cost her my business, as well as countless others, who were left scratching their heads wondering why they had to see "whoever was available", even if said technician was downright awful. I will never go back unless she changes her policy. read more

I say this in jest but Jin Soon Choi, the owner of the three locations of Jin Soon Natural Hand and Foot Spa has tended to the fingers and toes of many a beauty editor. What does that mean to you? An experience like no other. The employees attentive and friendly, the atmosphere tiny and tranquil. The decor is very Asian country house. At the E. 4th Street location you sit at antique wooden school desks while getting a manicure. The pedicure area in the back is seperated, a bit of privacy, as no one wants their calluses on display.The actual service is what makes this #1 for me: hands down best mani and pedi. The polish never chips or peels, they take their time with the entire process from cuticle trimming and massage to polishing. A basic mancure is right under $20 and worth every penny. They also have a variety of exotic and treatment services available for either hands or feet, which are lovely if you don't mind spending a little more. Ok, so I think I have found the Jin Soon formulas. It's called avoid, avoid, avoid for manicures, but they excel hardcore at pedicures. Got one here recently when I needed some pampering and it was truly relaxing and my legs and feet have never been smoother. I have to also say that the pedicure chairs are really comfy. That said, $32 for a pedi in nyc is really not something I can do all the time and although i loved the lady who did mine, they do kinda just leave you be once you dry. Cleanliness in next to Godliness when it comes to putting my feet into a foot bath for a pedicure. I searched for a spa that had exceptional standards for cleanliness, and I found Jin Soon Natural Hand & Foot Spa. I will never be found putting my feet into the gross foot baths that have the bubble pump at the cheap korean nail places because there is NO WAY the inner workings can be sterilized. Jin Soon's uses pretty sinks installed on the floor as a foot bath, and I witnessed the sink's sanitization after each client departs with pretty toes. OK, I'm a little crazy about germs, but I'd rather have this eccentricity than get hepatitis or foot fungus. In addition to passing my cleanliness test, my manicure and pedicure were very relaxing. My manicurist was very thorough with my nails. She did an outstanding job. I also LOVED sipping the delicious citrus tea that they served me. Having just moved back to NYC, my tootsies will definitely flee to Jin Soon for some loving. read more

Over a year since the cockroach incident, I am updating. I have not been back. And despite my review and that fact that I was a client for years at both East and West Village locations, not one word from Jin, on this site or otherwise. There are at least three or four places in the immediate vicinity where you will get as good a mani/pedi, some are cheaper, some a bit more costly. But a zero minus, Jin, for not caring about a long time customer who you lost forever. That is what this website is about.
