Ramen base was mediocre but they make up for it with other stuff. The tonkotsu base was lacking depth and creaminess. But for my black garlic one, they do put a hefty amount of it so you get the black garlicky goodness all the way until the end. The cha siu was super soft. One of the better ramen cha sius of vancouver. You can choose the broth richness but I wish you can choose the noodle doneness. The noodles were al dente in the beginning but quickly got soggy. Usually I got for a harder noodle doneness so its perfect midway through. There are things you can add to the ramen yourself. There's ramen sauce - not sure what it is but it was flavorful. There's also fried garlic. Adds a nice touch and other restaurants don't have this. The chicken karaage was lacking. Small pieces. Not fried well. The takoyaki was good due to the sauces but obviously frozen takoyaki, which makes it quite expensive. $16.95 for black garlic tonkotsu ramen is expensive for the quality they give. Same price as santouka and more expensive than danbo.

Small ramen joint located off of Kingsway on Royal Oak. Take note that there is limited parking! However you can find nearby metered parking without too much trouble. But if paid parking isn't your thing, you can also get here with ease by bus! Restaurant is quiet and cozy - so you can easily have a conversation here, tables are nicely spaced to give you some privacy! Server was very friendly, and service was quick - I imagine they do get quite busy during dinner hours, however weekday lunch seemed to be quite slow. Sushi Bomb (Ball) was seasoned well, however wished it had a bit of firmness or crisp to it, as it literally fell apart on touch, but i guess "bombs" can't be held , so I suppose the name works. Chicken ramen black - Chashu was on the dryer side, however flavor was nice.. Broth on the other hand, I didn't get much of the chicken aspect out of it - tasted too salty and garlicy. Egg was on point though!

I'd only ever visited their old location, so I was glad that my experience here was just as good. They have one vegan ramen, a vegan miso ramen ($14.95 plus tax). Their agedashi tofu is also vegan, so I got a spicy version of that to form a combo. The food all came out in under 5 minutes (!). The broth was complex and well-made. You get a good portion of proper ramen noodles cooked well, bamboo shoots, corn, green onion, some radish, and 4 pieces of fried cubed tofu. Everything worked really well together, though, as before, I'd prefer more veggies (some greens especially). Very kind and attentive service. Above average spot in Greater Van for vegan ramen. Recommended.

black Ramen and chashu ramen, bomb combo

Decided to give this place a try before going for a movie and it did not disappoint! We ordered a ramen combo which included the "bomb" (two balls of rice and seaweed) to start, and a black ramen and chashu ramen. The noodles for the black ramen went very well with the broth, which was flavourful and rich. We also ordered a side of chicken karaage to end the meal, which came with a dipping sauce and side salad. Overall, the broth alone is quite heavy and oily though so I didn't drink it as I usually would for ramen once I was done with the noodles. The tables and seats were cute however a bit awkward to sit on as they do not have backrests. They do provide hooks on the walls for your bags and jackets though which was nice. Although the food wasn't mindblowing, it is just down the block from Marutama and a solid ramen option for those that want something different. Would definitely try the other ramen flavours if we do come here again!

Nice spot for ramen in Burnaby. Write down your name and then wait outside. Appreciate the prompt service. I got the tonkatsu ramen with the regular broth and grilled chashu. Tasty with good noodles. I liked the three sauces on the table, particularly the spicy sauce.

Choice in how you build your ramen is becoming the in thing everywhere and it's no exception here. You get to choose the noodle base (I chose black garlic which has tonkotsu base) The kind of noodle How rich the soup is - I chose rich. The meat (classic chashu, or slow cooked - I think I chose one of each) It comes with an egg already which was fine. The broth was not really that rich but it was reasonable and tasty. The noodles were standard chewy which I liked. I would say everything is good but nothing stands out in particular. I like the bomb though. Rice ball with seaweed. Tasty.

Summer only Gojira Raman is good~ good portion and flavour. Diced Chashu are really tasty! Thought the cooks are Korean but the waitress is Japanese~ Service is good for us (Japanese Canadian family) Today 's lunch time is not busy so the restaurant is quiet and nice.

Literally only two stars. Ordered the miso chashu ramen and found the broth to be a bit on the garlicky side more so than miso flavour. The chashu was also not fresh as it was cold and dry. We even went soon after they opened so not sure why it was not fresh. The portions were not that big so I felt the price to portion ratio was not balanced. I've definitely been to better ramen places. Server was friendly and interior was cute and small. Hence the 2 stars.

I was really impressed by Kamamarui. It's a small ramen joint, but definitely punches above their weight class. Choices of regular or rich broth, as well as sous vide (slow cooked) vs grilled (classic) chashu provide for customization of your ramen bowl. I had the miso tan-tan ramen which comes with miso and pork broth and ground spicy pork. I had also added some grilled chashu to my bowl. The broth was very tasty and I was very happy with my addition of chashu giving me two different textures of meat. The ramen had some good springiness to it and the rich broth stuck to it quite well. Seating is limited. I wouldn't recommend a group larger than four.

Where else can you find $12 ramen?? I thoroughly enjoyed the chewy noodles, rich broth and soft ramen egg. The meat slices were good too but a bit thin for my liking. Their rice bombs are simple but nice to munch on as a snack. Can't wait to come back! My only complaint is that you have to find Street parking.

3.5 rounded up. They were pretty nice and polite. KRD (Kamamarui Ramen & Don) is Korean run. I didn't realize this until I started listening to the kitchen staff converse with each other. Then there was next table over. It certainly wasn't Japanese I was listening to. Instead of karaage, I got K(orean)FC instead. That's ok , it wasn't bad overall. They also had their version of a pork karaage, which I've never tried outside of a HK style cafe. A little on the sweet side. The ramen. Yes, the ramen. I quite liked the noodles. Nice chew and comes with a slightly soft boiled egg. The tan tan ramen has a bit of spiciness but is manageable for the heat. Now for the chashu meat in the miso ramen. There was no way this could have been a "proper chashu" if we're talking Japanese chashu. It was too lean. Chashu is pork belly, and that was no pork belly in that ramen. Not that I'm complaining. Still very tender tho. So this is a bit of a first or me. Ramen done with a slight Korean twist.

Love this place. I've been here three times already and will definitely come again. The first time, it was with friends. Second time, I was going to go to Marutama with my brother until I remembered how much I liked this place from the first time I came. Their combo of ramen + side dish is a great option for those who also want something on the side. Really wonderful ramen, the broth isn't too heavy and is just perfect for me. My little brother, who is usually a quite a picky eater, really loves their vegan ramen option. This is perhaps my favourite ramen place now.

We chose 5 pieces karaage, 1 tonkotsu ramen, 1 ramen flight(chicken soup base, tonkotsu, and vegan) and Aburi Cheesecake(extra CAD5.00) and mochi ice cream. For drink, I ordered Tokyo Sunshine mocktails(pineapple, peach, lychee, lime, mint), and partner had a Sapporo beer. We were so surprised Karaage's portion! They were very generous amount and came on large plate!! Tonkotsu ramen was decent. I liked Chicken soup base one (Ramen flight)which was very creamy and smooth, bold flavor. Vegan one was very spicy. Bean curd on the top was unique. Noodle was very good, too. Mochi ice cream was decent. Aburi cheesecake's torching presentation was amazing. This was second time I had this cheesecake. However, Cheesecake texture required refinement. The last one was better. I prefer more smooth texture. And Mocktail was great. Strong pineapple, lychee flavor and tasted great. Overall, we were really satisfied the meal. Service was great and quick. Highly recommend this special menu while it is available.

It comes with a drink, a toy, and mochi ice cream (+$1) so they know how to market to the kids! I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and it was good, not amazing, but good. The pork slices in the ramen have gotten thinner and not as flavorful as it used to be. They charge autogratuity on groups of 6+. They also have a loyalty program but their site never works.

We ordered a couple bowls of ramen, gyoza, extra noodles and extra chashu slices. Food arrived fairly quickly. The ramen was decent for the price. My child ate all the gyoza and fried chicken. The food was a 3 to 3.5-star while their service has improved over the last few years (4-star). No doubt the location is very convenient (a solid 5-star). I was there a couple times this month. Lunch was busy on a weekend. Dinner was not busy at all on a Sunday. Lunch: - Roast Pork - Shoyu Ramen The roast pork was marinated on point and the meat was very tender. If it was on bone, it would've fallen off the bone. I was surprised. However, it was a tad dry, but it didn't affect the flavour. Shoyu ramen was quite standard. It was the most basic and economical ramen on their menu. The flavour was not bad. Nothing was over seasoned. The half soft boiled egg was nicely marinated and cooked. I enjoyed the soup, which didn't leave me feeling thirsty. The one slice chashu was on the thin side. The ramen was a little al dente. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal. Dinner: - Gyoza (Pork and vegetables) (5 pieces) - Fried Chicken Ramen (Chicken broth base) - Beef Tongue Ramen (Pork broth base) The gyoza (pot stickers) skin was nicely pan seared on one side. The flavour of the stuffing was good on its own while dipping on the gyoza vinaigrette sauce tasted even better. The one critique was that the temperature was only lukewarm and not hot enough. Fried chicken was set on a side bowl while the while ramen was on a separate bowl in the chicken broth. The fried chicken had a nice umami flavour, yet the skin was soggy. The soup was creamy white with light flavour. The ramen was on the soft side yet not bad. They were generous on the corn and bamboo shoot. The beef tongue ramen was nice as per my friend. The beef tongue was marinated well. The ramen was the same on the soft side. I think they have a lot of room for improvement. The flavour, the temperature of the food and the plating.

The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict!
