    Veg mazesoba

Recently I paid a visit to kokoro Metrotown as me and my friend were craving ramen. Ambience is good of the place . This was my second visit and I see a huge difference now in the service and quality of food. I ordered vegetable mazesoba it was very different from last time with mainly raw tomatoes puree flavour and just one piece of long stir fried tofu which was hard to eat. It lacked all kind of corn and other stuff it used to have earlier and the staff this time did not even gave customizing options. A bit disappointing on that end as I had good expectations. I like their ice cream though . Very fresh and delicious. I wish they give more options for vegetarian as they did earlier.

stopped by the station square kokoro tokyo mazesoba at 6049 silver drive around 6:30 pm on a monday, for a party of three. right away, the convenience stood out, complimentary parking, no tickets, no validation, no fuss. this is my first time at this location and this one feels like it's had a bit of a glow up. the menu seems a little different from what i remember, maybe they revamped the menus, with more ramen and rice bowl options alongside the classics. the space itself leans elegant, with chandeliers, lush plants, warm wood tones, exposed brick and a soft ceiling glow. it's easily one of the nicer looking kokoros i've been to, comparable to the brentwood mall location with its signature purple neon light of a bowl and noodle pull. even for a monday night, it was busy but never rushed. lovely young servers, all smiles and efficiency, moving gracefully through the space. three tin cups of water were already waiting at our table, and without asking, they brought over a jug of ice water, a small touch that didn't go unnoticed. ordering's done through tablets, a smooth and modern update that keeps things simple. choose what you want and option to omit green onions, sesame, seaweed, etc, but no option to add extra garlic. for anyone unfamiliar, mazesoba is a japanese noodle dish made with thick, chewy, multi grain soba noodles, a dry style, no broth, just layers of flavour from the toppings and sauce. my go to, the tokyo bowl, comes loaded with spicy minced beef and pork, ground saba fish for that bold flavour, seaweed flakes, raw minced garlic, green onions, chives, sesame, and a raw egg yolk that ties everything together into creamy richness. i like to add a generous splash or two of vinegar to brighten it up and balance the umami. the key is to mix everything thoroughly so every strand of noodle is coated well. this time though, the noodles leaned a bit too al dente for my liking, the chunks of pork was dry, overcooked and fatty, in addition, it was missing the seaweed sheets. only made it through a few bites before feeling full and packed up the rest to take home. they charge extra for takeout containers.

Not too crowded but decently busy on a weeknight! It has a nice trendy atmosphere inside. Loved the new iPads where you could order or call the server over for various needs. The staff came right away whenever we requested something like water refills and they were very friendly. They changed their menu slightly and they no longer have the XXL upgrades but still a standard size and an XL size. I ordered the regular classic mazesoba ($16.50). Now you can choose between grilled chicken, regular pork belly, or even forgo the protein for less $. I enjoyed the grilled chicken! However, a complaint our table had was that we ordered the classic and non-spicy version, but we found it to be more spicy than we remember.

Every so often I come here with my coworkers for a monthly staff lunch. Normally I get the Special Mazesoba, but opted for the Deluxe Ramen today. Turns out if you get the XL, they don't give uou free noodle refills. However, if you get the regular the refills are free. Since it's $2 cheaper just get regular with a free refill.

The mazesoba here is amazing! Very tasty though a little on the saltier side. We also tried the karaage ramen which was also good. The Hokkaido milk ice cream was a lovely way to end the meal. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming; service is fast. Food is ordered through a kiosk at the table. The restaurant is bright, and decorated with a fun travel theme. Nice casual spot for a meal with friends or family. It's a popular spot especially on weekends when wait times can get quite long. Recommend coming on weekdays if you prefer to avoid lines.

It's a Kokoro. Not sure what else there is to say, but if you've never been and want to try something new this is a good place to check out. They've expanded their menu and I have previously enjoyed their ramen, but in my opinion you should be getting their mazesoba dishes. There's a few options but ultimately, you want to mix your bowl in order to combine all the flavours together. You get a really nice rich umami type of taste. Big plus for offering free upsizing options here as you can't go wrong with extra noodles. Kokoro is a constant in my rotation of food outings and I don't think you can go wrong stopping by here.

I came here with a friend for a quick lunch before my flight back home and it was solid! The waiters/waitresses were friendly and quick with their service. I got the Zenbu Mazesoba and it was beautifully plated. The chashu was quite fatty and hearty but the chives kept it from being too much. The egg yolk also added the perfect creamy texture to the mazesoba. I thought the dish would come with half a soft-boiled egg though, so I was a bit disappointed. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

Good vibes at this Komodo. Staff is attentive and quick. The noodles are fresh served warm or cold noodles. The neon lights and decor feel Like Japan. I especially enjoy the soft serve here.

I came here for lunch with my parents for the time last week after hearing about the renewed Station Square. The waitress did not mind tending to our table even though we opted for patio seating on a very hot and sunny day. I had the Tokyo Masesoba. My mom ordered the Original Ramen and my dad opted for the Mini Chashu Rice Bowl because he had just had breakfast earlier. Although my mom and I did not upsize our orders, the portions were generous and were just right. My mazesoba was packed with aromatics and plentiful protein (chashu bites and eggs). I like that the noodles were not drenched in its sauce and the picked up the flavour of the sauce perfectly. My mom loved her ramen and the rice bowl hit the spot for my dad. We can't wait to go back.

Good Japanese food in Metrotown. Nice and clean place. Service is good, you can order online or via menu.

    Agedashi tofu

We went there on a weekday evening and the restaurant was pretty busy. It took us about 10 minutes to have a table. The decor was lovely. My mom and I ordered 2 combos: tamago ramen with cheesecake and zenbu mazesoba with takoyaki. We also ordered 2 additional side dishes agedashi tofu and pork gyoza. As the weather was getting colder, we ordered a small hot sake to warm us up. Let's begin with the side dishes. takoyaki was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a small chunk of octopus and veggies covered with takoyaki sauce and mayo. Personally I would like to have a bit more takoyaki sauce in my takoyaki but it's just my personal preference. As for the agedashi tofu, I had better agedashi tofu in another restaurant. This one wasn't crispy enough on the outside, and the tofu wasn't hot enough. On the plus side, the tofu was very smooth and custardy and it melted in my mouth. The pork gyoza was very crispy on the bottoms and soft on the top but it wasn't too juicy inside. Let's move onto the noodles. My mom liked ramen in soup so she had the tamago ramen. The noodles were thin and the broth was flavorful. It's simple but delicious. The zenbu mazesoba served with thick, chewy noodles. After breaking the egg and mixing everything together, it could get quite rich and dry after a few bites so I added some vinegar in it. It tasted a lot better. I liked the spiciness of the minced meat but the pork was a bit dry and hard. We could ask for some rice after we were done with the noodles to finish off the sauce in the bowl but probably because of the thickness of th noodles, I got too stuffed to have rice. As for the hot sake, I like my sake to be served hot especially with a colder weather now. We ordered a small one but it was enough to give us 4 cups. The sake was sweet and light, and the flavor was intensified after heating. We had cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake was super smooth and light with Oreo cookie crumbs at the bottom. It was my third time visiting Kokoro, the overall experience was great! It's definitely worth trying if you haven't had it before

Fukuoka style ramen and mentaiko cream mazesoba
    Suanne L.

I've visited kokoro once when they first opened their location in Robson and never returned (until now) because the food was really subpar. Noodles were so oily and the flavours were not complementing each other at all, and their prices were quite expensive compared to other places at the time as well. I only recently decided to revisit as I saw that they were expanding their menu and had Fukuoka (aka ichiran) style ramen, which I am a huge fan of. Plus, they had free add-ons and up-sizes! We had to wait over an hour at this location, even at 8pm. There were some empty tables but I think they didn't have enough staffing to cover, which is why it took so long. Decent gaps between tables for privacy, and they also had some booths as well. We got their Fukuoka style tonkotsu ramen and mentaiko cream mazesoba. I actually quite enjoyed the ramen as it was quite light, and the mazesoba was not overly oily. I definitely enjoyed my time there this time and would revisit!

We came here to try out their new and improved menu - larger portions, lower prices.... who wouldn't be curious? The mazesoba is definitely a very rich, heavy dish and I used copious amounts of the supplied vinegar to cut down on the grease, which I found actually helped. They also provide a rice bowl at the end for you to soak up the sauce but I was too full to go for that option, instead I packed the rest home. The reason for the 3 stars was the absolutely sloooooooooow service. It took forever to take our order, then to make the order, and we weren't even at peak lunch hour! I don't know if they were just short staffed but we must have been waiting for almost an hour after we ordered to get our food, and many other tables were complaining. There's also a charge for takeout containers even if you dine-in which I don't think I've encountered at other restaurants. It's a good value these days but I think I'd try out other spots first before returning.

We chose 5 pieces karaage, 1 tonkotsu ramen, 1 ramen flight(chicken soup base, tonkotsu, and vegan) and Aburi Cheesecake(extra CAD5.00) and mochi ice cream. For drink, I ordered Tokyo Sunshine mocktails(pineapple, peach, lychee, lime, mint), and partner had a Sapporo beer. We were so surprised Karaage's portion! They were very generous amount and came on large plate!! Tonkotsu ramen was decent. I liked Chicken soup base one (Ramen flight)which was very creamy and smooth, bold flavor. Vegan one was very spicy. Bean curd on the top was unique. Noodle was very good, too. Mochi ice cream was decent. Aburi cheesecake's torching presentation was amazing. This was second time I had this cheesecake. However, Cheesecake texture required refinement. The last one was better. I prefer more smooth texture. And Mocktail was great. Strong pineapple, lychee flavor and tasted great. Overall, we were really satisfied the meal. Service was great and quick. Highly recommend this special menu while it is available.

It comes with a drink, a toy, and mochi ice cream (+$1) so they know how to market to the kids! I got the Tonkatsu Ramen and it was good, not amazing, but good. We ordered a couple bowls of ramen, gyoza, extra noodles and extra chashu slices. Food arrived fairly quickly. The ramen was decent for the price. My child ate all the gyoza and fried chicken. The food was a 3 to 3.5-star while their service has improved over the last few years (4-star). No doubt the location is very convenient (a solid 5-star). I was there a couple times this month. Lunch was busy on a weekend. Dinner was not busy at all on a Sunday. Lunch: - Roast Pork - Shoyu Ramen The roast pork was marinated on point and the meat was very tender. If it was on bone, it would've fallen off the bone. I was surprised. However, it was a tad dry, but it didn't affect the flavour. Shoyu ramen was quite standard. It was the most basic and economical ramen on their menu. The flavour was not bad. Nothing was over seasoned. The half soft boiled egg was nicely marinated and cooked. I enjoyed the soup, which didn't leave me feeling thirsty. The one slice chashu was on the thin side. The ramen was a little al dente. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal. Dinner: - Gyoza (Pork and vegetables) (5 pieces) - Fried Chicken Ramen (Chicken broth base) - Beef Tongue Ramen (Pork broth base) The gyoza (pot stickers) skin was nicely pan seared on one side. The flavour of the stuffing was good on its own while dipping on the gyoza vinaigrette sauce tasted even better. The one critique was that the temperature was only lukewarm and not hot enough. Fried chicken was set on a side bowl while the while ramen was on a separate bowl in the chicken broth. The fried chicken had a nice umami flavour, yet the skin was soggy. The soup was creamy white with light flavour. The ramen was on the soft side yet not bad. They were generous on the corn and bamboo shoot. The beef tongue ramen was nice as per my friend. The beef tongue was marinated well. The ramen was the same on the soft side. I think they have a lot of room for improvement. The flavour, the temperature of the food and the plating.

The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13.
