    184. Pad Thai Tamarind Sauce

The food was okay. Heard good things about this place, but it was just alright. There was no wait on a Friday night, but the food kind of took a long time to come out and it wasn't that hot too. The crab fried rice and the green curry were the stand outs. The place is small and charming. There's not a lot of parking, but you can find some street parking!

OK, my last review saying the only thing to get there is the southern Thai last page-dishes, and having corrected my error from the last time, I stuck to that page, and it wowed me once again. Jackfruit jungle curry tofu had a wonderful sweet/sour taste; beef khua kling with a fishy sauce was like a wet "dry-rub bbq" taste, and perfect mouthfeel. Highly recommended, but go on an off-hour, as the hipster lines at dinnertime are just impossible to navigate.

A spot that has existed for so long that it's crazy I never reviewed it. I'm a frequent visitor to the classic theatres throughout Hollywood so I come by after a late night film showing for some great grub. This time I opted for wings which I somehow never tried. These were solid but the chili sauce was a little flat. Tasted like the type you'd buy in the grocery store. Which the wings also had a little more crispy. The crispy pork with noodles was a real winner. Noodles soaked up all of his flavor through the sauté. All were so tender and the bits of pork belly were like nuggets of goodness scattered around. Paired nicely with some sambal. Red Curry with Chicken was the standout. So thick and creamy, they must really have a high ratio of coconut milk to water. I wanted it to come in a cup so I could drink it lol. Will slowly go through as much of the menu as I can! I heard they're blowing up on tiktok over Selena Gomez coming here. She has great taste.

Back after 8 years and nothing changed! Got the Cashew Nut Chicken again which cost $20 now and again it tasted below average like last time! Honestly, don't understand all the hype about this place! Is it because a couple of celebrities came here and took some pictures? Don't waste your money here and go to Yai on Vermont which is 10X better than this restaurant !!!

Amazing food. Kind service. Cool restaurant design. This place is great. The crab fried rice was delicious. One of the best fried rices I've had in LA. The jungle curry was also great...although quite spicy! Those were the two standouts from the various dishes we ordered. I love how the heat is real. Also, there's a nice kick to their dishes that always has me wanting to take another bite.

JITLADA is a popular Thai restaurant that serve Southern style cuisine. It's located in a small corner plaza in Sunset blvd and Kingsley avenue. They have a voluminous food and drink items on their menu. We came on a hot afternoon to grab some quick lunch. It was by random that we selected this Thai spot. We had Pad Woodsen. It tastes good with modest serving; nothing extraordinary compared to other Thai spots in LA. However, their food prices are pricey. Some of LA's known writers and actors have been into this place. You'll see it hanged in their wall. When we arrived at 2:20 pm getting a service staff was somewhat slow. Food arrived on time tho. Staff were competent and friendly. Atmosphere was a bit loud due to constant chatter by customers. Parking in the plaza is limited. Interior space was spacious. Overall, we had a nice lunch at Jitlada.

We order so many dishes that I honestly can't remember all of their name. Overall, I can see why this Thai restaurant is so popular. The flavor here definitely interesting. For me some dishes were a little too sour and too spicy, but the ingredients I can taste were very fresh and high quality. We ordered the duck curry, which was very unique and not usually see at other Thai restaurants. The crab omelette was also excellent with no pieces of shell at all, which I really enjoyed. Service was fast, even though restaurant was very busy. I would recommend coming early to avoid a long wait. The only headache is parking, it is very difficult to find the parking near by.

Jitlada, named after the Thai royal palace in Bangkok, is well deserving of the name. The place was booming with customers and incredible aromas. We were greeted right away, seated promptly, and served without delay. This is a place you can come to with friends, family, or on a date! The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but don't let that deter you because the food is outstanding. We ordered the fried rice, crab meat noodles, spring rolls, yellow wings, spicy salmon rolls, and fried banana with coconut ice cream. Everything was delicious, and I'm already planning a return visit. Pro Tips: 1. The restaurant gets very busy, so you may need to briefly wave down your server. This is not because they are ignoring you, but because they are constantly on the move. 2.The parking lot is small, so be prepared for tight spaces. Uber or Lyft may be the easier option.

    Emily P.

Best thing was the pad see ew and we also added crispy pork! The crispy pork is actually crispy dry and not crispy juicy. I got the fried honey duck, which was okay, a bit dry, next time I would opt for the stir fried duck. The Thai tea was good. The service was good, the whole place looked nice. Additionally I ordered the lamb and eggplant to go, the lamb was a bit tough and lacked seasonings, but the veggies were good. There was a waitlist when we got there, we waited for 45 minutes. I would go back to eat the pad see ew again and to try the stir fried duck.

I've been here a few times, but I always think about pictures after I've inhaled my food. I originally saw the restaurant on Triple G. The Thai food here is phenomenal! My fave Thai dish is Thai basil chicken. Theirs is great. The last time I had spicy basil eggplant with chicken. My niece is vegan and likes extra spicy. She ordered spicy veggie rice. This is the first time something was too spicy for her. She loved it!! The parking lot is really small. So you may have trouble with that. Also it gets very crowded in the evenings. So get there early, or get ready to wait. The last time we went, we ran into the infamous Jazz. She's such a sweet lady!

Jitlada was on my must-try list for a very long time, and my friends and I finally made it happen. It was SO good. The service was also friendly and warm - we felt like family! Honestly, every single thing we tried was amazing. The crispy morning glory salad was INCREDIBLE. Do be cautious because the spicy items are VERY spicy. The parking lot is very small, so you'll probably have to go around the block looking for parking a couple times.

    Raymond M.

This place is an OG. The morning glory salad is very unique, vibrant, and delicious. Mango sticky rice probably the best I've had. The prawns were good, has that peanuty and curry taste to it. Green curry was just mid for me. Everything was good but I've had way better when it comes to Thai food.

    Ezequiel V.

Service here is great, they make you feel home, the ambiance is perfect to take the family and enjoy a great meal We order a lot of food but it was so good that i couldn't take many pictures Food was super spicy but enjoyable I would go back here a thousand of times for sure

Silly question, but is there anything on the menu that's NOT spicy?? My husband LOVES spicy and I want to take him here, but I think black pepper is spicy and would like to eat with him and not just watch 😂. Even if just one dish, thanks in advance!

They have non-spicy plates and you can also ask them to make non-Spicy as well.

A Thai restaurant I know used to have freshly fried shrimp chips as an appetizer. Like the fresh, high-end version of what you can buy in bags and markets. They took them off their menu. Where can I get these delicacies? Does Jitlada?

Sam Woo's in Van Nuys has them fresh to order. Not sure about the other locations.

Yes , spicy yet very good

I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

Came here for a quick bite before a walk around the lake with a friend I haven't seen in a couple years. I loved our server and overall experience here I appreciated. In terms of food, the panang curry was more watery than I had expected. It had a lot of nice vegetables and a big serving of rice on the side. I thought the flavors were there but it could have definitely been turned up a little more, but wasn't bad for something quick. My friend got the satay and this was more my style. I love a good char and meat on a stick and this satisfied my craving.

My friends and I came here right after watching a show at the Pantages Theater. We were so…read morefortunate to walk into a good number of empty tables so we didn't have to wait. However, as we were wrapping our dinner, all the tables were filled and we felt a bit of a push to hurry up to pay and leave. The waiter didn't say anything to push us to leave, but when you see them giving you the bill before you could finish your food or ask for it, you feel a bit pressured to eat faster. The three of us opted for family style and ordered four entrees and a side of white rice to share. We ordered the stir fried crispy catfish, the sautéed morning glory, the shrimp salad, and the pad kee mao with chicken. The total came out to be about $33.28 per person including tax and 20% tip. I think that's very reasonably priced. We also did not have to wait long at all for our food, which we were so pleasantly surprised. This is definitely a place to go if you want good Thai food and have a short meal break. We ordered and finished our food in less than an hour. We parked a few blocks away in the neighborhood. The parking situation in that plaza was a nightmare. There were cars honking and almost hitting the cars in the front or in the back. I don't live anywhere near Hollywood, but if I do come to see a show at the Pantages Theater in the future, I'll make sure to swing by again.

To share, we had the following dishes: -Tom Yum Shrimp Soup: Spicy and sour in a good way. The shrimps were also juicy. -Papaya Salad: Crisp and fresh. -Pad Thai w/ Chicken: Solid and not too sweet. The noodles were cooked well. -Roasted Duck Over Rice: Good, but nothing mind-blowing. I would've loved more of a roasted feel and flavor. -Pad Prik King: A good amount of meat and flavor was good. -Sauteed Morning Glory: Honestly my favorite dish here. I loved the crisp veggies and flavor. -Beef Jerky: Surprisingly not bad. An elevated beef jerky. Everything was solid, but I've had better versions of each dish elsewhere. Nothing stands out, but this is a good standard for Thai food. The service here was really good and attentive. I appreciate the servers taking on all the requests hurled at them from the people in my group. They also helped with a water spillage. Parking can be tough since the area is popular. It's valet parking only in the lot in front of the restaurant, but you can also find some free spots around the area if you don't mind walking.
