Took my mom here for Southern Thai food. My most favorite dish was shrimp paste sauté with stink beans. Spicy fish kidney with southern curry and coconut milk was tasty and flavorful. My least favorite was turmeric dry curry with ground pork. It didn't hit the spot for me as a Thai person though I ordered every dish to be spicy. My mom even told me to order very spicy next time. Been following Jitlada since the pandemic, finally had a day to be in that area so I was excited to finally try it. I've seen so many shows and YouTube vids about it so I was more than ready. I was greeted and seated immediately because I came right when they opened for lunch. The place looked cozy and tiny, but when they seated me, there was an additional seating area through a doorway, doubling the space. I got the pad kee mao with beef, thai fried rice with tofu and a lychee coconut smoothie. The fried rice was the most freshest and flavorful I've ever had! The pad kee mao confused me when it came, it didn't look like what I thought I ordered. I had envisioned pad see ew, but my mouth had said pad kee mao. But it was fine, I wanted to try something new anyway. The lychee coconut smoothie was a perfect pairing with it, tasted a little more lychee than coconut flavor, but that was okay with me. Great service. They answered my questions and requests and took care of everything I needed, including my Husband's to go pad thai. I admit, it was more pricy than I expected, so if I come back, it will most likely be for a special occasion. All in all, Highly recommend. read more

Beef salad was definitely not tasty, as it was too sweet! Lacking citrus as well. The meat was more Mongolian style taste & texture. 2/10 Last dish was beef pas see ew 6/10 Overpriced! LA Times late famous food critic Jonathan Gold's favorite Thai restaurant and a constant in the LA Times 101 best list. We went back after more than a year, as we were in the area. It was more than half empty for a weekday lunch, as compared to the large crowds for dinner. Service was unassuming, but decent and the food came out fast. Ambiance is simple and clean but I enjoyed all the celebrity photos. The taste, however was not as good as I remembered. We started with chicken larb, which was just okay. The southern style boiled noodles with lamb was good, but the spicy flat noodles were quite bland and not spicy at all! We ended with sticky rice with mango, which was good. I don't know if it's because so many good Thai restaurants have opened up everywhere, or if my taste buds have changed, I would not make the drive to go there. read more

Had the pleasure of dining at Jitlada last night after wanting to try it for a while. Got there on the early side around 5:45p on a Friday night and got a table right away. I did notice there was a large wait outside when we were leaving. From the food to the service, this is a solid 5 stars for me. PANANG CURRY - 5+ stars. Absolutely perfect preparation, so delicious! This paired perfectly with their black rice. CRYING TIGER (BEEF) - 4 1/2 Stars. This was delicious! Rich in flavor and not too spicy at all. CHICKEN SATAY - 4 Stars. The peanut sauce was quite good, and the chicken was pretty good too. This was a very classic preparation. Our waitress was awesome, very sweet and helpful with suggestions from their large menu. I've been here a few times over the years, and it's basically the Cheesecake Factory of Thai food: there's a ton of stuff, and it's pretty good, but not "wait in line for more than ten minutes" good. We waited in line for over an hour once, and the food was very anticlimactic. If I'm waiting in line for an hour, the food better be good enough to make me forget about the line. It wasn't. Restaurants are only as good as their waitstaff. 6 days ago I went in and a little Thai lady listened to my order and gave me exactly what I wanted. I only had to say extra spicy once and she understood, it was a fabulous experience. Today I go in and some dude in a mask took my order and I had to say extra spicy 4 times because I could tell he was being dismissive about it. Lo and behold it came out not spicy whatsoever, I had to add chili paste, flakes, etc on my own at the table after informing the chef it wasn't spicy enough. I really dislike when my requests are minimized or ignored by the person I'm supposed to tip 20% to. It's offensive to give me the opposite of what I clearly asked for multiple times. read more

This is one of the most disappointing Thai restaurants I've visited in a while. Place was nice and bug enough to accommodate even large families. Came here midday and was seated right away. Food also came in a timely manner. Everything else went downhill from there. Had some pad thai, yellow curry and their jitlada rice. It was okay. Not really worth the price to be honest. Every single cuisine they had was $22 or more each. Price to value ratio isn't even close. What made this experience really bad though was the server. She was obviously trying to rush us for no reason at all and it wasn't even close to being remotely busy at the time. Asked for a refill on our drinks and kept forgetting it too. She was also grabbing some of our plates while we were still eating. i even had to stop her from taking one of the plates that we were still working on. Even towards the end of our meal, I get the bill while I was still eating! Talk about being rude. Didn't even bother asking how the food was or offering us the dessert menu. Needless to say we paid the bill and just left. Definitely won't be coming back here. Not worth the hype. If you want a really want good thai food in the area, go for RUEN PAIR instead. The menu was a book and we had a difficult time deciding because there were soo many options but we ended up ordering the celebrity chicken, Panang curry, pad see ew, and crying tiger (not pictured) all of which were very delicious and satisfied 4 hungry guests. My favorite was the panang curry though I do have slight bias towards curries in general. There was the perfect amount of creaminess as well as a good mix of veggies and meat. One of the best restaurants in Southern California by far. I've eaten here probably 20x and each and every time, it gets better and better. They have a huge menu and the flavors in each dish are beyond amazing. The owner, Jazz, is always there and makes you feel like you are eating in her home. She is so welcoming. Most items are spicy so you can't handle spice, let them know ahead of time. I just can't get enough of their food. I always recommend starting with the morning glory salad, getting a tasty noodle dish and depending how many are in your party, have at the curries and stir fry's from there. If 2 of us go, we generally do the salad, noodles of some sort and 2 other dishes. Two small issues however to be aware of: parking can be hard to find especially on a Friday or Saturday night and they don't take reservations so sometimes you may need to wait a while to be seated. The place is small and they have two sides. It is a mom and pop feel. The food was okay, the portion sizes are small especially if you are coming with a family. I recommend order about 5-9 plates to try every food item they offer. I enjoyed their pad see eww and the egg rolls. My least favorite item was the 35. I know Jitlada is beloved by many. But my recent experience did not live up to the hype. My friend who lives locally also agreed that their quality has gone down unfortunately. We came here for a late lunch on Christmas Day after a hike at Griffith Park. The entrance side of the restaurant was competently empty but it still took a good 7-9 minutes before someone greeted us and got seated. The tables were crammed and the decors were nostalgic. It felt like I'm transported to an auntie's house for a family gathering. There was a sweetness to this homely feeling. Service was pretty lacking tho. Food wise, they were just okay. We got the crab curry-the crab legs were very skinny and barely got any meat, and the curry was falvorful but watery. Khao Soi was very thick, strong peanut flavor, but very very salty. I dumped half cup of water to dilute it, otherwise I don't think I could eat it. The chicken was tough. Thai iced tea was good tho. read more

The dishes are a bit on the spicier side (you can even order a spicy smoothie!), so just a headsup, but worth every pretty penny and calorie. Came to Jitlada per a friend's recommendation. It's definitely a popular spot and you will likely need to wait a little bit if you come during prime dinner hours. The inside is small but quaint and decorated with lots of Thailand pictures and artifacts. Note the parking lot is also very small so street parking will be your friend. The service was good and the food was good as well! We ordered the Spring Rolls and Pad Thai and both were very good! The Pad Thai had very fresh noodles and I really liked all of the flavors included. I would come back here for the Pad Thai alone. My husband ordered the Oxtail Curry and sadly didn't enjoy it as much. The spice seemed like it was just there but didn't complement the other flavors and the oxtail meat was very slim. Don't think he would order it again if we went back. I will also note that overall their menu is on the pricier side compared to other Thai restaurants and the portions felt to be on the smaller side. Had a little bit of wait time and only had to wait around 20 minutes for a table. it was mentioned that this restaurant was very well known and a lot of people had visited this restaurant so my expectations were high. Jitlada has a very cozy atmosphere with tables packed full of people. Their menu is very vast and includes a lot of dishes that you wouldn't normally see at a regular Thai place. Ordered the pad Thai and the pork belly as an appetizer and wait time was really long to get our food. The wait was worth it though because the food was so delicious and I understood why this place was so popular. Pork belly was seasoned really well and wasn't burnt like some places do and the pad Thai blew my mind. I guess I was eating at the wrong place this whole time. Definitely will be back. I've always wanted to try this OG Jonathan Gold spot, but since I live on the Westside, I never made it out. And let me just say, it was absolutely worth the trip. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had the crispy morning glory salad, Tom Yum soup with chicken, pad kee mao (not on the menu, but they kindly made it for me) with beef, and green curry with tofu. Each dish was balanced and just right. One thing to note: the default spice level here is about a 2/5, so if you like more heat, definitely ask for their chili condiments. They offer four different types--pickled green chili, fish sauce with green and red Thai chilies, chili powder, and chili sauce. A little extra spice took everything to the next level. If you love real Thai food, this place is a must-visit! The only small issue was that the chicken in the soup had a slightly funky taste, but other than that, it was a 5/5 meal. read more

TL;DR - Good Thai food and even better vibes, especially if Jazz is in the house. Tucked in a small strip mall, you'll know you're in the right spot when you see a bunch of groups waiting around outside. There are no reservations, so send someone to write your name on the whiteboard waitlist while the others find parking. The restaurant is cozy and chaotic in a good way, and we were ambitious in trying to get a group of 18+ seated. The staff didn't even flinch. Jazz, the owner, warmly welcomed us and even assigned a dedicated chef to help speed up our order. As expected with large groups in small places, the meal was delicious and hectic. My personal favorites were the Crispy Morning Glory Salad, Crying Tigers, soft shell crab curry, crab pad thai, and the crispy papaya salad. We ordered over 24 dishes, and none of them were a dud. But the best part of Jitlada is the people. Jazz checked on us, cracked jokes, and handled a billing mix-up with grace - immediately removing a charge for a dish we never received and genuinely apologizing to us. Totally different kinds of Thai cuisine you normally eat. No reservation. You have to go there, write your name on the clip board. I never seen this kind of menu, it's like 10-15 pages, about hundreds type of food in their menu. On top of that they have special menu on table and wall. Service is fast and friendly. They also have a spicy challenge in the back of the menu. The menu has 2 section: green section you can get mild spice level, the white ones were for those who can handle real spicy food. It's a small restaurant so yeah, it's kinda loud. We ordered: Spicy crispy pork noddle - the noddle is very good, the crispy pork overly fried. Khao soi Chiang Mai - like it Jitlada omelet - it's fried egg omelet Crispy morning glory salad - my fav of all Papaya salad - refreshing Pumpkin red snapper curry - love the pumpkin with snapper Crab fried rice - very nice. Jitlada has quickly become one of my go-to spots in LA! Every dish is an explosion of flavor that knocks other restaurants out of the park. Situated just south of Hollywood Boulevard in the Thai Town area, Jitlada has a massive menu, ranging from your typical tom kha and pad Thai to more unique curries and rice plates featuring lamb, frog legs, and more. They even have an "adventurous bizarre foods" menu with intestines, fish heads, and silk worms. I'm honestly amazed they're able to offer such a variety! The best part is the food is GREAT -- especially the curries, which are served hot on top of a flame. As a Southern Thai restaurant, Jitlada features bolder flavors rather than the milder, cream-oriented curries at most Thai restaurants in the U.S. The salmon and eggplant curry featured a delightfully strong red curry -- so wonderful to eat alone or over rice -- while the oxtail curry offered incredibly tender meat. (This dish only comes with two full pieces of oxtail, but I found the yellow curry enjoyable enough that it was worth it.) The Southern spicy beef rice dish is filled with flavor and aromatics, and the minced beef soaks it all in. We also enjoyed a raw papaya salad (they offer a crispy version too), which had a nice kick that was a step above our other medium-spice dishes. Pad Thai is never my favorite, but I was actually impressed by the one they serve here! It wasn't overly sweet. Our waiter was super friendly and, despite the restaurant being somewhat crowded for a Saturday lunch, we had zero wait. Parking might be difficult (street parking on Hollywood Blvd might be your best bet), but we lucked out a car leaving the lot as we arrived and got a spot right away. Our table featured a variety of Thai stir-fries, crispy fried chicken wings, and a fish soup, all simple but flavorful ~ the tom yum with that perfect level of sour and spicy. This was our first time visiting the famous Jitlada. We came here on a Friday around 1pm just before a rush of lunch time diners. The place was already mostly full due to a large party event in the next room. Get cozy because the tables are very close together. The parking lot was full, but we got a metered spot on the street and were lucky to be in and out in under an hour. We got all of our food quickly after ordering. Again, this is because we came at a good time before things got too busy. Crispy morning glory salad: a must order because even salad haters can't hate on a salad that's fried. Tangy and acidic fish sauce goes well with the fried watercress. Green curry with chicken + side order white rice: The curry is delicious and creamy. We went with less spicy and it still had a nice building heat. Pad Thai is made with tamarind sauce so it's tangy and sour. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. Mango sticky rice: creamy, sweet, and rich. A perfect dessert. We also got pineapple fried rice to take home, because I always want fried rice for later but know I can't finish it during a meal. We had ordered the mango drumsticks from the southern menu, but they were out of drumsticks so we decided to just stick with what we ordered since it was more than enough for two people.
