Their sausage bun is not good. There is a strange metallic, almost rotten aftertaste after each bite. I know hotdog grade sausages themselves are not good for you, but the ones they use make me think I should never eat hotdogs again. Their scallion bread tastes like old oil. They have a pretty good selection of bread. So far, my top reason to go is for their bao. Before was the radish cake, but couldn't find an easy to reheat them, as I usually grab a bunch and store them in the freezer. For boa, I can just steam the bao and it would still taste good. Mochi mochi cake cake cake! Hooray they finally had it today! Michelle T. has been telling me to try one for forever now and they never had them on my last visits. I was starting to worry that they didn't exist. So with today being my lucky mochi day per Michelle T. I went for the Strawberry one and I am in love. It was super yummy. Next I need to try her fav Cranberry Cream Cheese bread that also has been a challenge for me to try as it is never available either. But my new favs from JJ has to be their hot dog buns. Omg they are heaven. I could probably eat one a day. And the sweet buns are so darn good I have no clue how I will ever be able to eat a hot dog in a regular bun again. Fresh, delicious, and always a hit! I love the seaweed rolls as it's kind of a weird and funky breakfast. Everyone rants about 85C... but honestly, they're not so great. After trying 85C I still return to JJ Bakery. Their breads are fresh, moist, and slightly sweet--I highly doubt you will buy a cake here and take it home and find out it is frozen (yes, I'm talking about you, 85C). I like buying their $2 ham and cheese sandwiches, cut into perfect triangles. My boyfriend loves their ham and cheese croissants, which is a steal at $1.65. When they have their mochi cakes in stock (sometimes I order them in advance). It's like cake and mochi having a baby.. with fresh whipped buttercream in between. They also have amazing custard buns. I have not bought anything here that I have not liked. They are a small chain and their products do vary store to store, but the product quality is never lacking. read more

JJ BAKERY AT LAST! I've been absolutely dying to try any one of their locations but I can never manage to get to a store before their closing hours. But I finally found an opportunity to go to the Torrance location approx 5 minutes before they closed! Woo-hoo! I had set my heart on trying their mango mochi and taro bun, but alas, since I arrived 5 min before closing, they were out of both! Let that be a lesson to me to arrive early next time. I still walked away happily with some other awesome goodies though: Green Tea Mochi, Pineapple Bun with Dry Buttermilk Filling, and a Red Bean Mochi Bun. Green Tea Mochi - I was very skeptical about spending $3 for a mochi ball. But after reading a number of reviews that consistently raved about their mochi balls being the best, I bit the bullet. My conclusion? SO WORTH THE THREE BUCKS!!! The mochi is absolutely delicious. The texture of the mochi is delicately soft with a slightly sticky texture. The interior was stuffed with a light green tea cream and little jellies. MM! I can't wait to try the other two flavors next time! Pineapple Bun with Dry Buttermilk - Not sure why they call this a pineapple bun because it neither tasted like pineapple nor looked like a pineapple...soo.... yeah duno about the name. I still thoroughly enjoyed it though. I can imagine that some people would be put off by the cakey, dry buttermilk interior, but I thought this was the best part about the bun! Stopped by here before getting Starbucks across the way. They have a good selection of pastries i got the cream filled bread pan type. It was great right amount filling and the breading was soft and all was good. I will def be back to get that again didnt get to take a pic cause i ate it so fast lol read more

My favorite Asian Bakery in Torrance! I was hooked on 85 Degrees Bakery for a while when it first came to Torrance/Gardena, but I eventually came back to JJ Bakery. There seems to be a more variety of breads and more tastier ones to choose from. Bread: LOTS of choices! The ones with sausages are always good; a bit more filling cus of the meat. My favorite though is the one with Corn! Whole Cakes: Their cakes are good~ Most of all, they're safe. I've tried a couple of them already and none have let me down. My go-to birthday cakes are the Vanilla or Coffee Chiffon w/ Strawberry Filling OR Mango Angel Cake (good size for small group) Piece Cakes: My favorites are the Tiramisu, Strawberry Mochi, and the Hokkaido Chiffon (also available as a gift set! I love this place! I come here all the time to get the ham and cheese buns as well as the cream cheese. I like both the cream cheese pastry and the roll. I've had a lot of things and I've been pretty satisfied each time. I really like the pastries you can get yourself. I've tried a few behind the counter but I don't remember them so they couldn't have been that good. Those pastries are priced a little higher as well. The prices on the other items are relatively reasonable. The staff here are friendly as well. If you have questions they are quick to help which is always a good thing. You do have to come early because even though they open late a lot of things are gone by midday. And they don't seem to remake anything, they just tell you they're out of it. So get here early! All that aside this is my favorite bakery of its kind in the South Bay. I've never gotten anything old, stale or dry and if I have a little extra money I look forward to trying new things. You must try their famous mango mousse cake! I got my mom the small one for her birthday and it was a hit. The bread is like a sponge cake with real mango filling in between. It is not to sweet, but just enough natural fruit sweetness to make it a wonderful, light dessert. I also like to grab snacks for the workweek like the pineapple bread, raisin scones and of course- hot dog pastry buns for my husband. He loves those for breakfast! I can't comment on their desert cakes but I've tried a variety of their baked buns/danishes with different fillings, like raisins, coconut, taro, red bean. THE BEST BAKERY IN TORRANCE. No joke. I've had my share of Asian bakeries and this place is HANDS DOWN one of the top notch places I've been to. I'd say it's the best Chinese Bakery within 20 miles, at least. You have to come a couple minutes after they open. They'll have fresh pastries put out and the pastries will steam up the baggies. You can poke them, they're so soft and warm. But oh my gosh, it's nothing like actually eating them and feeling the warm goodness enter your mouth and make its way to your stomach. My mom once came in a little early and all of the bread was still in the back cooling down. She asked the cashier whcih breads they had in the back.. I'm not sure what happened then, but I know she eventually bought one of each kind of pastry they had. I could seriously eat their fresh baked bread for the rest of my life and never complain. Contrary to popular belief, this bakery also carries lots of goood salty pastries, which include bbq pork buns, curry buns, grilled cheese and tuna sandwiches, cold sandwiches, green onion and pork sung, pork sung, and garlic sticks (though I do not recommend the last one). They used to have beef buns too, but apparently they stopped making those, which is a SHAME because i was really delighted when I first had one. Little did I know that there would not be a second! Favorites include: their ham and egg sandwiches, pork sung buns, raisin stuff, and taro bun, but this changes according to my mood. My parents like the green tea (maccha) with red bean filling. You can almost buy anything here without worrying about whether or not it'll taste good. I usually go on a wild splurge and just buy whatever's hot and then consume it all within 30 minutes. I'm not kidding. Oh, and their cakes are good too. You can, of course, custom order them. They also have beautiful honey cakes and cute little slices of various types (like black forest and tiramisu and japanese cheese cake). I also recommend their loaves of bread. Make a sandwich with them! Craving for some sweets, I decided to give this place another try. I got sesame mochi, taro mochi bread, orange chiffon roll. It was a waste of money as I had to throw them out. I love JJ Bakery!! They have this coffee bun that I love however when I went in they did not have it. I actually went in to find a small cake and was successful. I found a chocolate walnut cake and it was amazing. They have already decorated cakes however I needed a cake that was non-dairy so that is why I went with the choice that I did. They have a lot of different buns and they also had cookies and even some drinks. The employees there were really nice and made suggestions of what to try. I will totally be back. Plus I want to try some of the cakes in the chiller case. I am not sure if there hours have changed right now. They also have hand sanitizer out to use and they have everything prepackaged to limit the chance of someone hopefully touching the buns (Covid19 has changed the way they do their pastries.) read more

These guys actually re-opened as of 1st May 2020, after having been closed for a month. There is a limited but decent availability and most popular items are available. You are limited to 3 customers in the shop at a time and people are automatically observing distancing with 6 ft apart. Face coverings are required for coming in the store and they are giving customers disposable gloves for picking up a tray (on which you will pick up a bagged item - no tongs are available). I am glad to report there is no drop in quality of the bakery items! I must congratulate them on their commitment to staying safe and healthy for staff and customers alike! I still come here a lot but everytime I'm getting more and more disappointed... Why? They are getting cheap :[ One of my favorite bread from JJ is their taro bread with pork sung. I get it every time if they have it. However, the past few times, I've been getting more pissed off at JJ because it seems like they start putting less and less into their bread. The quality is just not there anymore. I don't know if that is what they are doing to cut cost or their bakers just don't know better, but when I get a taro bread with pork sung, I expect there to be pork sung! I don't want just a little bit on the outside so I can see it but none inside. Definitely feels like I'm getting jipped. Same thing with their chocolate corissants. Looks nice in the wrapper but once you take a bite you realize that there's barely any chocolate and it just tastes like... croissants. When you compare this JJ to all the others, you can seriously taste the difference in quality. Nevertheless, I still come here to buy toast. After a long day at work I was in the mood for one of their famous hot dogs on a sweet bun...but they didn't have it so I got another one of their hot dog pastries and though it isn't quite as good as the one I wanted...it was still VERY GOOD!!! We also picked up a few other cakes as well. We got a lemon one, a coconut one, a watermelon one and a coffee one. Of all of those the coconut one was the best. The watermelon and the lemon one weren't very sweet at all. This is the Torrance branch of the JJ Bakery chain which has standard asian inspired french bakery products. It is located in the corner of a small strip mall with ample of parking and is a to-go place. I've been here a couple of times in the evening and have got slim pickings as they pretty much run out of everything by morning and dont make another batch in the afternoon. Each time I pick up a handful of different items to try a large cross section of their offerings and have liked most of the them. Taste wise most of the pastries and cakes are not overly sweet but have a more complex flavor and texture profile which is a welcome change. Price wise individual items are between $1.50 and $3.50 which makes them very reasonable and they take card without any minimums. Some of the more memorable items that I have had include the pineapple bun, mango pudding, read bean bun and german pudding. I've been wanting to try their taro steamed buns and mochi cakes but by evening they are always out so I guess I'm just going to have to go early one of these days. read more

We had the good fortune to choose this bakery for a friends' birthday, as well as my Dad's recently. I had never been here before two weeks ago, and it was a welcome revelation. If I had known this petite bakery was here, I would have been using it for each occasion that came down the pike. The cakes are absolutely gorgeous, and thus far, have garnered nothing but lavish praise from my friends and family. I highly recommend the Orange Chocolate Cake with the red stripe and ribbon. It's photo worthy, and on top of its splendor, it really is not that heavy a cake. It looks as though it will send you into a sugar coma, but surprisingly, it is light, airy, and actually pretty darn moist as well. Delightful. I found a new go-to spot for birthday cakes.
