Flavor less sandwich. Bummer because I was really hungry.

I wish I would have read the reviews before going here. Had the turkey and avocado sandwich. It had zero flavor. A lick of mayo, lettuce and little bit of tomatoe. I had to ask for a side of mayo n mustard to try to give it flavor. Bread was soft but that's it! Avocado was hard to find. Then I got the onion rings. I literally got 5 pieces. Unreal! To top it off, this place is dirty af. I asked for it to go and told her thank you, it was delicious because I felt bad for the lady. I don't know if she just works there or owns it, but you got to improve on the taste.

First time here and it is excellent... I got the Italian in a wrap and it was simply delicious. The owner was super nice and friendly. Will definitely return to come support small business. It's small but roomy and there's also outdoor seating available. They also offer ice cold beers.

On the corner of Long Beach Blvd and 7th St. in DTLB, it is surrounded by fast food restaurants...good area for a group to go if folks have different cravings. There isn't a close-by Subway, so if one wants a sub sandwich (hoagie, grinder), this is the place. It is locally owned, and is definitely trying (trying happy hour specials, different types of food, etc). But at its heart, it tries to be a sandwich shop that also acts as a deli. In that respect, it's OK...can't really compete with some of the other Italian delis in Long Beach. I've tried their sandwiches before....they use all Boar's Head brand meat which is great...you pay a bit more, but imo, it's worth it. My issue is with the bread..it is generic, non-descript, soft with little taste...if they kept changing it out for different brands, you wouldn't really notice. So this time, I decided to see if I could assemble myself one of my favorite sandwiches, the Godmother, at home. It has 5 different types of Italian meats and cheese; JJ's had 4 of the meats (no mortadella) and provolone. The meats were about $5.00 per quarter pound (not cheap but OK for Boar's Head). Inside, it reminds me of a lot of other locally owned restaurants serving Asian foods in Long Beach, bit disleveled, food not well organized...for me, that's fine. But I was a bit nonpussed when the preparer dropped one of the already wrapped meats on the floor and just picked it up to give to me (assuming I didn't notice...or not caring)...could of/should have called it out, but decided not to. Not very good service...

Inside of establishment. Is it an Italian or Chinese deli?

Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. They have signs up saying they serve Boar's Head meats, so you're banking on good quality. I had a Tunafish sandwich and husband had a ham and cheese sandwich. Bread was fresh and again nothing special about it. Soft Hogie bread. I went here having seen it given 4.8 stars and had I read the reviews I would have realized the 5 star ratings were from paid influencers and people biased towards promoting this business. Things like ". This business is not appreciated." Really if quality is there it will be appreciated by people there 24/7 breaking the doors down to get a sandwich. This was not the case for us. We walked in at 2:30pm on a Friday and the only ones present in the establishment. The lady behind the counter picked up a package of cheese and started slicing it while we decided what sandwiches we wanted. So the reviews on here that talk about the women behind the counter either ignoring or acting like customers were an interruption to her work are spot on. She was not unpleasant or rude but you could tell she would rather be doing something other than dealing with customers. Anyway she brought our sandwiches and we ate them and left after 20 min. My recommendation is save your money and go to another place for subs. Especially when you see pictures below. Really is this an Italian deli or a Chinese deli.

Tried this local deli for the 1st time! Very friendly! I decided to try their Longshoreman Sandwich-- to my surprise, it was really good! I ordered a large (w/no tomato). They are pretty big! So I only ate half and save other half for the next day! Their viet iced coffees are good too- but on the really sweet side!

    3. Commuter Combo . Um, that's a lot of lettuce.

Definitely some good points, but when you take it all in, this place seems average at best. The bread was excellent, and the quality of meat was high. These are usually two indicators for a great sandwich. Let's just say they are very generous here... with lettuce. They actually put the lettuce on the sandwich first, then lay the meat on top. A little bit of trickery making it look like it's packed fat, but it's really like biting into a salad on a roll. The flavors are decent, but if they weren't so skimpy, they might actually have something. Especially at $11. Nice people though, and I appreciated the free soda with Yelp check in. Parking is a little tricky unless you cheat and park at Taco Bell next door. I cheated. I was not caught by the Taco Bell police. I live dangerously.

Great option for a classic, no thrills deli sandwich. Boars head meat selection, which is great. My sandwich tasted fresh, and well made. My ONLY qualm was that it needed more cheese, lots of meat but only a small slice of Swiss. Overall, I would def recommend for a good old fashioned sandwich. Ambiance is decent, definitely a classic deli vibe, I recommend to go personally. Service was quick and efficient. Try it out!

Unfortunately my lunch experience here was quite lackluster. I got the Italian Special sandwich and a hot dog. The meat seems really good quality and had nice flavor, but everything else fell short. The rest of the items didn't live up to the quality of the meat. I feel like the sandwich had Italian salad dressing on it which was weird when I realized that's what I was tasting. Hot dog is a good deal for $2. Sandwich was pretty filling but was a lot of bread so that makes sense. Sorry to say I don't think I'll be back... well ok, next time I'm in the mood for a hot dog you may see me here.

Ask the Community - JJ Italian Deli

Is it no longer open on the weekend? I came here around 11:30 last Saturday and it was closed - and it sort of looked like they had erased the weekend hours from the posted hours on the door? Is it only open on weekdays now?

It's still open during the weekends, Saturdays from 11am to 7am and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.

We had a great time to find some new hand care products @Lather and went to discover an authentic italian restaurant which lots of Yelpers mentioned. My wife said, we have to order at the front, then they bring the foods to the table but the owner took our orders, and brought the foods so fast just like other Italian restaurant. We love meat lasagna, pasta w bolonese sauce, and some flat breads like appetizer pizza. We ordered 3, lasagna, tagliatelle bolonese, flat bread sandwich called Cassone w sausage, bell pepper, onions. I had some italian red wine per glass ($14). First, I loved so much my lasagna and kept eating until finish my entire portion. I give 10 stars. My wife's pasta, she said pasta is too thick, might be on purpose? She likes soft, thin texture handmade tagliatelle. For the first time, we ordered flat bread sandwich. The sandwich flavor was good, but not the dough for flat bread. Well, we tried here for the 1st time after shopping. Today was almost 81 this afternoon. Hot and humid.....unluckily AC was broken so he opened the entrance door. One big fly bothered a lot annoying us eating the foods. And so hot inside restaurant. Overall, I liked my lasagna a lot, not really tagliatelle bolonese, nor the flat bread sandwich. If AC was working during lunch time. We felt much comfortable to enjoy our foods. One thing, I loved the red wine but the portion was not enough for $14. Even my wife said, not much for this price. I got 2 glasses of italian red wine, not enough. The view was great ocean side from the patio. This is a strong point eating here for the view. My wife saw the live pasta cooking show, a chef made the pasta, stretching the pasta dough in the kitchen....great show! Fun! Hopefully AC runs well especially hot summer season, the portions of pastas and wines might be more generous for the future.

I ordered ahead, and lucky me--my order was ready for pickup in under 10 minutes. On previous visits, I've sometimes waited closer to 15-20 minutes, so this was a very welcome surprise. I ordered the pastrami sandwich on a roll, and they certainly didn't skimp on the meat. It was generously piled high--exactly how I think a good pastrami sandwich should be served, with so much meat it practically falls out with every bite. The pastrami was flavorful, and the portion was impressive. My husband ordered the beef dip and gave it equally high marks. His sandwich was also generously filled, and he said the beef was delicious. These are seriously substantial sandwiches. We could only manage half of each before the concert, which turned out to be a bonus--the other halves became a very satisfying late-night treat. Modica's delivered where it matters: generous portions, satisfying sandwiches, good flavor, and this time, impressively quick service.

Grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, tomato, provolone and mayo. It might sound simple, but this monster of a sandwich was incredibly tasty. I decided to check the Resy app to try somewhere new besides the 3 restaurants across the street from me, and surprisingly found an opening at 7:45pm on a Saturday night! I walked there from my house so thankfully did not have to worry about parking. I felt completely comfortable from the moment I sat down. The atmosphere is warm and casual, there was live music and a lively group of people on the covered outdoor backyard. My server was lovely as well, attentive, but never felt rushed. Everything I ordered was delicious and perfectly paced. I started with the fried artichokes which I had never had before, but I love artichokes thanks to my Italian grandmother. So light and crispy. Then I had the caprese, what a stunning salad this is! The avocado was a bit random to me as I have never seen one with a caprese before and it was hard as a rock, but still ate the whole thing. I ordered the pasta alla routa Cacio E Pepe which I did not realize was $65 upon the time of ordering, but that's on me for not looking that closely. They told me ahead of time when it was coming out so I could video it being made inside the cheese wheel if I wanted since they couldn't come to me being that the backyard is covered in rocks. Thought this was nice since I paid so much for it, may as well be able to share the experience with others. I enjoyed two glasses of sangria with my dinner and finished with some pistachio gelato. All in all a great experience, I just wish the pasta was like $20 cheaper but lesson learned. I don't know that I would come here often since I spent $190 on dinner for myself, but I would come back for date night, or an anniversary, or a special occasion, and have already recommended since going.
