I really didn't have high expectations for a deli smoothie under $10 (I was just looking for a thirst quencher) but this turned out to be among my top favorite smoothies, wow! Came here specifically because I was going to the beach and knew they carried Boar's Head cold cuts. The full sandwich was very small and cost about $17. The cold cuts in my sandwich did not taste fresh and had a bad smell, I ended up throwing away most of it because of fear I would get sick. Delicious and filling sandwiches with fresh slices of deli meat and cheese. They are not stingy when it comes to putting meat on the sandwiches. And the veggies are usually pretty fresh. Although, I was a little bummed last time I ordered a turkey and avocado sandwich that the avocado was a bit lacking and it was brown in more places than I felt was acceptable. In terms of affordability, it's not too bad. I paid about $24 for a full-sized sandwich, a side of pasta salad and potato chips. The lady who handles the phone and payment is pretty nice. I wouldn't say that she goes out of her way to be friendly, but she's not mean or rude by any means. She always seems to be grateful to have customers, and the little shop is pretty welcoming to encourage repeat visits. I wish I would have read the reviews before going here. Had the turkey and avocado sandwich. It had zero flavor. A lick of mayo, lettuce and little bit of tomatoe. I had to ask for a side of mayo n mustard to try to give it flavor. Bread was soft but that's it! Avocado was hard to find. Then I got the onion rings. I literally got 5 pieces. Unreal! To top it off, this place is dirty af. I asked for it to go and told her thank you, it was delicious because I felt bad for the lady. Not familiar with the area, the positive reviews we decided to give it a try. Very small outdated business with a very friendly Asian woman who possibly is the owner. We hesitated, ordering anything hot since it appeared it might be reheated in a microwave, but don't know that for certain. We had the large Italian sandwich which is on a soft hero type roll. It was uniquely made compared to other sandwich shops. The role was cut similar to a hot dog bun with lettuce and tomato, onion and Italian dressing on the bottom all the meats, although plentiful were rolled on top with about a quarter of an inch of the meat outside of the roll. read more

On the corner of Long Beach Blvd and 7th St. in DTLB, it is surrounded by fast food restaurants...good area for a group to go if folks have different cravings. There isn't a close-by Subway, so if one wants a sub sandwich (hoagie, grinder), this is the place. It is locally owned, and is definitely trying (trying happy hour specials, different types of food, etc). But at its heart, it tries to be a sandwich shop that also acts as a deli. In that respect, it's OK...can't really compete with some of the other Italian delis in Long Beach. I've tried their sandwiches before....they use all Boar's Head brand meat which is great...you pay a bit more, but imo, it's worth it. My issue is with the bread..it is generic, non-descript, soft with little taste...if they kept changing it out for different brands, you wouldn't really notice. So this time, I decided to see if I could assemble myself one of my favorite sandwiches, the Godmother, at home. It has 5 different types of Italian meats and cheese; JJ's had 4 of the meats (no mortadella) and provolone. The meats were about $5.00 per quarter pound (not cheap but OK for Boar's Head). Inside, it reminds me of a lot of other locally owned restaurants serving Asian foods in Long Beach, bit disleveled, food not well organized...for me, that's fine. But I was a bit nonpussed when the preparer dropped one of the already wrapped meats on the floor and just picked it up to give to me (assuming I didn't notice...or not caring)...could of/should have called it out, but decided not to. Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. They have signs up saying they serve Boar's Head meats, so you're banking on good quality. I had a Tunafish sandwich and husband had a ham and cheese sandwich. Bread was fresh and again nothing special about it. Soft Hogie bread. I went here having seen it given 4.8 stars and had I read the reviews I would have realized the 5 star ratings were from paid influencers and people biased towards promoting this business. Things like ". This business is not appreciated." Really if quality is there it will be appreciated by people there 24/7 breaking the doors down to get a sandwich. This was not the case for us. We walked in at 2:30pm on a Friday and the only ones present in the establishment. The lady behind the counter picked up a package of cheese and started slicing it while we decided what sandwiches we wanted. So the reviews on here that talk about the women behind the counter either ignoring or acting like customers were an interruption to her work are spot on. She was not unpleasant or rude but you could tell she would rather be doing something other than dealing with customers. Anyway she brought our sandwiches and we ate them and left after 20 min. My recommendation is save your money and go to another place for subs. Especially when you see pictures below. Really is this an Italian deli or a Chinese deli. read more

This is a good place for a solid sandwich. Both sandwiches we got were packed with Boars Head meat, fresh lettuce and some cheese. It could have used more mayo and or mustard but that's just bc I like a lot of those condiments. Easy to add in. We also got the regular Alfredo pasta - it looked like normal pasta but wow, the flavor was on point. The regular size can easily be shared by 2 people. The large sandwich was humongous. Great portion sizes for the price. The service was super fast. The woman who helped us was so sweet and had recommendations based on what we were looking for. Definitely a comfortable vibe. The location is off Long Beach Blvd and we walked, so no comment on parking. There is about 2 tables inside and lots of seating outside along the Blvd. it's not a flashy place and the Blvd along the metro isn't the best, but I would recommend this place for no frills sandwich and or pasta takeout. Great option for a classic, no thrills deli sandwich. Boars head meat selection, which is great. My sandwich tasted fresh, and well made. My ONLY qualm was that it needed more cheese, lots of meat but only a small slice of Swiss. Overall, I would def recommend for a good old fashioned sandwich. A little bit of trickery making it look like it's packed fat, but it's really like biting into a salad on a roll. The flavors are decent, but if they weren't so skimpy, they might actually have something. Especially at $11. Nice people though, and I appreciated the free soda with Yelp check in. Unfortunately my lunch experience here was quite lackluster. I got the Italian Special sandwich and a hot dog. The meat seems really good quality and had nice flavor, but everything else fell short. The rest of the items didn't live up to the quality of the meat. I feel like the sandwich had Italian salad dressing on it which was weird when I realized that's what I was tasting. Stopped by in middle of my 108 mile bike ride for a place to eat. The food was good, not the best you've ever tasted but better than a lot of places. A sandwich option in DTLB. Reaaaaally like the The Long Shore Man sandwich. It's flavorful, served warm and will fill you up. Certainly worth getting!! I tried the Pastrami not too long after they first opened. I thought it was good, but I subbed out the bread for sourdough slices, which I think was a mistake on my part. I'd like to try this again as originally intended. I was rather disappointed with the Golden Eagle. The chicken quality felt up in the air. Reminds me of the precooked chicken breast bagged from Costco. It came with a couple strips of bacon and a bit of avocado, which along with the tangy mustard, were the only elements of flavor. I am glad the avocado was fresh, though it could've used a lot more. This sandwich desperately needs some help to boost flavor... Maybe something like a garlic spread, some onions, or more flavorful chicken to begin with. I liked the Vietnamese iced coffee. While a bit on the sweeter side, I like it over some other local places. Definitely a satisfying caffeinated beverage on a hot day. They use Boar's Head Deli meats and cheese, which had me hopeful that they would offer Mortadella sandwiches. But didn't seem like it last time I visited. Please add a Mortadella to the menu! The owners are really nice. JJ Italian Deli is worth a stop if you're in DTLB as they are a local. They were/are open during the COVID-19 situation and you can still order to pickup. read more

A hidden gem. Plain looking, huge menu, Excellent food. Came for lunch and picked up dinner on the way out of town.

Walked in and was not acknowledged at all. Lady looked at us multiple times and went on with her conversation with some gentleman. Waited 5 min in front of the cash register hoping to get an order in. As soon as we walked away she asked if we needed anything. Told her we wanted to order but obviously she had more important things to do so we walked out. If I would of gotten at a minimum a greeting and was told to wait a couple minutes and she would help us out I would of waited and stayed. read more

I must find out, but in lieu of those delectable renditions, we yelped for a alternative meatball sandwich maker. Based on Yelp's Best Meatball Sandwiches, we tried JJ Italian Deli. Their rendition at JJ is good but different. Generous and fresh, but it would take getting used to their spices and textures. More meatloaf then meatball. We did take out last night, but their patio is pleasantly roomy and removed from busy traffic. A convenient private lot is at the building's side.
