It's a place where everyone knows someone and the vibe is old school. A real comfort food place. The service is outstanding and frequent visits by waitressing staff is great. The menu is loaded with affordable breakfast and lunch offerings. Had the breakfast special and it was delicious. Biscuits and gravy were my choice with crispy bacon. Potatoes option was home fries or hash browns ( tried both) !!! Eggs over easy or scrambled ( tried both) !!! Looking for that old style restaurant that serves food you grew up on , here it is. I recommend this place. See you there.

This place was a blast from the past! When you walk into the Goldmine you are immediately taken back into the 1970s. Original fixtures, original chairs, and no pretense. The 70's music on the radio was a fun ambiance! The service is down home and friendly. It could also be defined as old school. The menu is old school as well. The prices are extremely reasonable, and yes old school. I ordered a Ham & Cheese omelette, with Home Fries, Biscuits & Gravy, and a Waffle. Absolutely Delicious! When putting this together, I started to think I would give them a 4-star rating but then I asked them realistically what would I downgrade them from a five -star to a four star, and the answer was absolutely nothing. This place hit all the check marks for me! In fact, it really is a Goldmine!

Well, talk about a hidden gem. I had this place bookmarked but could not tell you where I heard…read moreabout it. It is basically a little luncheon oasis dropped right in the middle of a gigantic industrial park. On the drive over I was seriously questioning my Yelp choices. It is that kind of location. But trust Yelp and sometimes you are handily rewarded, which we absolutely were. We came after a few hours strolling around at the Botanical Gardens, so we rolled in around 1:30 and there were still plenty of people there. I can only imagine at noon this place is packed, and honestly it should be. My biggest complaint is the menus. There is one above the counter that does not include everything, and then a different, more complete version if you scan the QR code at the table (But 2 different navigations even on the website with slightly different menus). Do yourself a favor and look it up ahead of time so you are not standing there making panic decisions. There is a half sandwich and half soup combo (Not on the board but online menu), which is definitely the move. I got the pozole, which you should absolutely order, and a half grilled cheese on their housemate sourdough. Normally not my go to, but I was trying not to be completely stuffed since we had dinner plans. And they bake their own sourdough, so I had a strong feeling it would be great, and it delivered. Toasty and melty, American and cheddar. My husband got the southwestern wrap, and my friend went with the half club and half tomato soup. She immediately regretted not getting the pozole and the half birria sandwich, which tells you everything you need to know. Also need to mention the snickerdoodle. Not much to look at, kind of humble, but it completely makes up for it with flavor and that perfect soft texture. Go ahead and get the cookie. You are not here to make responsible decisions. Bottom line, it may feel like you are driving into the middle of nowhere, but keep going. This place is worth it.

Don't let those gas pumps outside fool you!…read more I once again found myself in Rowlett visiting friends and this was the first place Jerry took me for lunch. When he said these were the best gas station tacos he wasn't lying! Open 24/7, Twisted Trompo is a gas station Mexican restaurant that specializes in Mexican street style tacos. They share the same building with the Chevron convenient store which takes up a third of the building. Right outside are the gas pumps. The interior is nicely decorated with bright color, nice booths, tables and chairs. What draws your attention right away are the large plexiglass window openings that show off their state of the art. You'll also notice the large pieces of meat standing vertically on large skewers. In the context of Mexican cuisine, trompo refers to a vertical rotisserie. Meat is skewered and turned slowly as it cooks with the outer layers being shaved off for orders. Their tacos are made from scratch with their authentic Mexican marinade. They also serve breakfast items, quesadillas, tortas, burritos, a salad and a variety of snacks. Menu choices were simple with many combo options. I had to try their trompo meat so I ordered the 3 taco combo. You also get a large cup of mexican rice and refried beans. The rice was nicely flavored with some peas. Yom Yom Yom. The refried beans were also nicely cooked. The made from scratch street style taco flour tortillas complemented the heroes on my tray. The chicken was on par, but the steak and barbacoa were outstanding! The single thin slice of steak was succulent and juicy. Dressed with the fresh onions, cilantro and some of their green hot sauce... Yom Yom Yom Yom! The shredded pieces of the barbacoa were seasoned perfectly and again, wrapped in the tortilla, garnished with onions, cilantro,.. Yom Yom Yom Yom! Even Nick's lengua (beef tongue) was tender and flavorful. So don't let this gas station restaurant fool you. Some of the best food are found in hole-in-the-walls. This was no exception. It reminds me of the humble beginnings of Hoover's Blue Pacific. It's too bad Twisted Trompo isn't here. What a great place to find great food 24/7!
