I have been to JJ sushi 3 times! And all My visits were ok! The service was your typical ok service! The staff were friendly. But the sushi was plain no spark to it! Very common flavoring doesn't really hit the spots in my tummy! Their calamari was more flour than squid? Their sushi rolls were pretty bland and barely any flavor even with their sauces on it! This place is ok if you want something plain and not a whole lot of flavor and richness in your sushi! I would probably just go back here like once in a blue moon! read more

This is my casual go to spot when i have got a hankering for sushi in Sparks. The staff is always welcoming, and the sushi is always fresh. My favorite is their dark rose which has tempura onion in it. Gives the roll a nice texture and flavor to it. And If you like things tempura, make sure to try out the hunger games. Which is a tempura zucchini with spicy crab on top. My staple nigiris at JJ's sushi is always the Donald Duck which is salmon with avocado and spicy crab on top. read more

This place is a little out of the way as they are out on Vista in sparks unless you live in the area. It is pretty basic for decoration but very clean and well kept. The staff is very quick about .making sure things are great for you. Never have an empty glass of tea or plates stacking up as they don't let that happen This place makes the best rolls and has the best sushi rollers in town. But then, a glimmer of hope, a little gem tucked into this Vista shopping center. JJ sushi reignited my love for sushi. Get "The Knight" for real it's like eating sushi for the first time all over again. "Is it really that good?" Yes it is. Phenomenal customer service and a very wide variety of rolls. I enjoyed my first time here with a group of friends and they were extremely accommodating for our group of sushi and non sushi eaters. There were some rolls on the menu that I had never could have dreamt up and they were amazing. We got one of every appetizer and the chicken teriyaki and it was all extremely good. Not only is their sushi great, but so are their appetizers. Fast and super friendly service. Will not disappoint. 12/23/16: Haven't been here in so long, since we moved a little further away. Finally came back here tonight and ordered take out. Got the usual Snow Mountain roll and JJ #2. First thing they said when I walked in was, "Haven't seen you in so long!" And she even added that she remembers that my favorite roll is the Snow Mountain so she knew right away that it was for me. I just love that they remember their customers and genuinely want to know each and every one of their customers. Delicious! The hunger game, Mickey Mouse, upside down shrimp, Spicy Jessie... honestly everything was very good! The fish tasted fresh, the service was wonderful! I really enjoyed the miso soup, calamari, mussels for starters and the AYCE menu was very generous on variety. Memorial Day weekend after a basketball tournament and every AYCE we called had a 45+ minute wait... JJ's sat us immediately, family/ kid friendly and fast service! The ambiance is nice, clean restaurant and bathrooms! They are on the smaller side space wise so I'd recommend large parties call ahead. We will definitely be back! We are always excited to try a new sushi place in the Reno area, the unexpected king of all-you-can-eat (ayce) sushi dining opportunities. Overall, we were happy with JJ's, although a couple things kept it from reaching its 5 star potential for us: The Good- 1) There is an emphasis on the counter seating, which for a small group is fun to be able to watch the rolls prepared. Especially since several of their rolls included torched salmon (YUM!), and 2) you have the opportunity to watch them literally pull out a blow torch for the torching process. I thought that was fantastic. 3) The menu is large with a good variety of options for a pretty decent price (Dinner $24) They offer mochi for dessert, which is apparently no longer universal 5) The chef was friendly, and by the end was asking us what we liked and making recommendations based on that. Not our fave- 1) Some of the fish was not as tender nor quite as flavorful as we were hoping. 2) As has been mentioned in other reviews, they have few staff to make it all work, and the chefs are essentially the servers as well. For the first 30 minutes of our visit, there was only one chef working, and she was stretched too thin trying to serve so many clients. Later 2 more chefs came out, and it was fine at that point. But the initial lack-of staff was disappointing. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and thought they had some tasty rolls. Some of our favorites were the Lion King, Spicy Jessie, and Four Seasons (yes, we like spicy food). Be sure to keep an eye out for the torching of the torched salmon! read more

Wow i am so glad I decided to explore spots in Sparks today! Located a bit off the beaten path JJ's is a few minutes from Legends outlets inside a Safeway shopping center. There is a large U shaped sushi bar with small tables surrounding the bar. We came at an odd time 2:15p and were expecting slow service since only one server and one sushi chef were present. Nope we were greeted, seated, brought drinks and ordered appetizers in the span of a few minutes. The lone sushi chef was masterful preparing scrumptious rolls while checking on everybody at the bar with round robin efficiency. The all you can eat lunch includes appetizers. The lunch sushi selection and one desert per person for $16.95. Everything was fresh and yummy but several items left a lasting impression. The jalapenos, mussels and hunger games appetizers were great. The upside down shrimp, mickey mouse and donald duck sushi literally melted in our mouths with tasty goodness. Desert is sort of a let down since the mochi ice cream is literally one piece of mochi cut into four tiny pieces lol! Overall this us as good as an AYCE sushi place can be, great service, great food and reasonable pricing. Don't hesitate to come check out this awesome spot. read more

I was in Reno visiting my Usual Suspect Brother Sharknado 2 Mike S and when dinner time came he suggested JJ Sushi . So I jumped into my Whip Black Beauty and followed Mike to JJ Sushi . We parked in their parking lot. JJ Sushi is located in a newer Stripmall. Its in a real low key location . But its a well known AYCE Sushi place. Especially to Reno Local folks. When Mike S and I walked into JJ Sushi we were warmly greeted . We chose to sit at the Sushi Bar . Thats where the Magic Happens. Mike and I chose to take the AYCE option . We started out with the Appetizers like the Mussels,Tempura Jalepeno Poppers, Seaweed salad. We then progressed to the Nigri and their Hybird Nigri Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse . Very Yummy and Original . I like these 2 choices a lot. Then their Menu of Rolls available are daunting . So many Choices you cant go wrong. Many Custom Rolls. One of my favorites was the Four Season Roll . Just Yummy. Service was very good. My Water Glass never reached half full. The AYCE includes Dessert . I ordered the Strawberry Mochi for Dessert. The sushi & rolls are among the best I've had; my standards for comparison are the better sushi restaurants in NYC, SF & DC. The fresh, high-quality ingredients are deftly handled to allow the delicate flavors to shine. The salmon & tuna nigiri sushi are flawless, with the perfect fish to rice ratio in these dainty nibbles. The eel & shrimp are good--not great, although I think the eel might be much better dining in, since it was cold by the time we tucked in at home. The Pink Lady roll is superb; the crystal shrimp somehow manages to maintain its crispness after the car ride, and the combination of shrimp & crab sings in perfect harmony. The California rolls are reliably good. Tip: I always ask the very gracious staff to withhold the lemon, I find it somewhat overwhelms the seafood. Daughter & Hubs are fans of the Upside Down Shrimp, but it's probably best for dining in, as I don't know the tempura would travel well. Their system for curbside pickup ensures that staff & customers are as safe as possible; you simply call them at your arrival, and the (very gracious & competent) staff will bring your order to your car. JJ Sushi doesn't really compare to the other ones that I've been to. Yes, they offer a lot of different types of rolls; which is great, but it's all the same. In sense that the rolls are put together and it is than slathered in an obnoxious amount of sauce to cover the poor quality of food that they had to give me that day, not to mention the lack of fish that was even served to me. The fish that I got was pretty, how can you say, old and dry looking. It didn't taste good, I mean I'm not expecting super fresh, but at least edible sushi-ish grade. As you can see in the pictures, the rice to fish ratio was a little over whelming (like someone else said 80% rice, 20% fish) and whatever fish I did get was cut super duper thin to the point where there was almost nothing there and it was basically shredded apart. I didn't experience any slow service like anyone else mentioned, instead I received the exact opposite. I sat at the bar so I was close to the sushi chefs and was constantly asked "anything else?!". They got a few of my orders wrong and normally I don't mind, but at JJ Sushi where the rolls are a little hard to swallow and enjoy; I did mind a lot. I'm a little sad that this place didn't work out because it's pretty close to where I am and I actually did enjoy the tempura ice cream, but I wont be back and I didn't enjoy this place like I did the others in town. read more
