I just had my first-ever full leg and underarm wax at JJ, and I have to say I'm disappointed. I decided to go have it done after buying a DIY waxing kit and attempting it myself. It's hard! I would gladly pay someone else to do it for me! But I guess the qualifier is that they need to do it THOROUGHLY. I'm a discerning girl. Upon inspecting their work when I got home, I spent about 30 minutes with my Tweezers trying to get rid of all the strays. But not even the Tweezers could solve the problems with this wax job, because on my lower legs in particular, it seems like most of the hairs were broken off at the surface instead of ripped out at the base of the follicle. So I basically just paid $72+tip for a very expensive shave. The hairs will be back tomorrow. UGH. read more

I'll definately never go here again. I came in to get three areas waxed, all of which were VERY painful. Then after the lady finished I showed her my leg and asked her how much longer before those could be waxed. I explained I wanted to wait until they grew a certain legnth that they would not be as painful (last time I was sweating it hurt so bad). She told me I could do it right then. "Reall?" I asked again. "Oh yes." I asked her how long b/c I didn't have much time. She assured me 10-15 mins tops. I left 25 mins later, being late for a train I had to catch and when I tipped her 20% she said to my face "oh haha ususally customer tip more bigger." I stopped by JJ Waxing this past weekend to get my brows waxed (for the first time in a long time). The staff were friendly and got to work right away. The woman cleaned up any extra spots with a quick threading as well, which was nice. I've noticed in the two days since that I've broken out a bit where the wax was - not sure if that's related to the wax or the soothing lotion she put on afterwards. Anyway, $12 is a good price (the salon I usually go to charges $25 for an eyebrow waxing - RIDICULOUS) and the service was very fast. read more

First Time Visitor - overall thoughts - Fast, Easy, Cheap. Scheduling: I called and made an appointment for a lip waxing without a hitch. Location: Not too far from the el Decor/Ambiance: You walk in and there are two hair salon like chairs where they do the facial waxing and threading. It's not exactly private but that didn't bother me. It very much felt like you were walking in to a hair salon and you can see people getting their hair did, or in this case waxed/threaded. Experience: I went in for a lip wax and the woman asked what I wanted, lip waxing or threading. She didn't try to sell me on either but I asked what she usually did and I decided on her personal beauty care upkeep to do threading. I have never had threading done so don't know what to compare it to but I like the result. It's supposed to last longer but I will say it's more painful than getting waxed, so be prepared. I have been to quite a few other waxing salons in Chicago, and honestly, I always come back here. It is reasonably prices and I never get any in-grown hairs. I can also get a prompt appointment and you earn a free Brazilian wax after only 5 waxes. I am definitely a loyal customer now. read more

Yet another 5 star review! I called in at 1:52pm today and asked if she had any appointments available this afternoon. I was getting waxed by 2:17! I got my eyebrows AND bikini area waxed here and it was fantastic. It was my first time for the bikini wax and I was expecting the worst, but she made it as pleasant as possible (for having hairs ripped out of your body)! The owner was the one who waxed me also, and she was extremely pleasant. She told me that she works there 9 hours a day, 6 days a week, and has been there for 12 years. She also took my mind off the pain by entertaining me with some funnier stories about some things people would exclaim while in pain. And after she waxed my eyebrows, she even gave me a brow massage! Her prices are great, she is very thorough, the place is extremely clean, and she is very nice! I will be back, and you should be, too! read more

What can I say? A Brazilian wax for $35??? Can't be beat. I called about 11AM on Wed. and asked if she was available at that time and she said yes. She walked me to the waxing room and told me to take pants and panties off, then came in, and got right to it. She wasn't shy or awkward. Very professional. Gloves, NO DOUBLE DIPPING, very thorough, Dr-like lamp, tweezed stray hair, cleaned me up. She only has soft wax and I wish she used hard wax for the extra sensitive areas but it all looks good in the end. She even made a joke about my diamond tattoo on my hip "diamonds are very costly hehehe" lol. I was soooo happy and only took about 15 min. I will never pay $60 for a wax again! I've gotten brazilians here several times with mixed results. My last visit, which was about 4 weeks ago, made me decide to never return. The main appeal of JJ's is the price. I have yet to find a brazilian wax in the city for $35. The staff is always very polite. I've been seen by both ladies who work there and they were both nice and made me feel comfortable. My last and final visit there was terrible and as soon as I returned home, I was looking for a new place to get waxed. One of the things that I have never liked about JJ's is that the wax they use is WAY too hot...especially on sensitive areas. I always have to ask them to cool the wax a little before it's applied. Additionally, every wax I've ever gotten here has been EXTREMELY painful. I'm usually sore for a day or two after my appointment. I attribute this to the fact that they rush the procedure and that they're not using the best quality products. I was also left with several painful ingrown hairs after my last appointment. If you're thinking about getting a brazilian for the first time or looking for a new place to get a brazilian, I would steer clear of JJ's. I've learned my lesson and I will cough up the extra $10-20 and travel a little further to have the procedure preformed properly. read more

Worst service of my life...recieved Bra Bikini and Half Leg. I never write reviews...I pondered and it is now the 7th day and I must warn others to run past this establishment. Please don't spend your money here, unless you are feeling charitable. There is no reason that my vaginal area is still sore to the touch after seven days. Unfortunately I don't need a MD. to know that my skin is broken if I'm still in pain on the 7th day. Prior reviews had me fooled. Pros: Lesson well learned you get what you pay for... Cons: A waste of $55.00 She reused the same strip a million times on not 1 but several areas Rush job ending in 7+ days and counting of pain... (despite have a high pain threshold) The tweezing was awful...patches left undone after waxing My whole left inner thigh was never waxed...really She waxed my legs at angles...#who does that" By the 3rd day hair was regrowing...both Legs and Brazilian...screaming "are you serious" I could write a book..but this dissertation is enough lol read more

I am writing this review when I am on the toilet because my vagina lips hurting so much when I am peeing!! I got a brazillian wax today and the lady who did was so rough and didnt know how to work with waxing products and she applied the waxing inside of my vagina and peeled off first layer of my skin.. I experienced excruciating pain during waxing and afterwards. THe lady who did had black skin. Never go there if she is there.. She doesnt know what to do. read more

She is fast, skilled, thorough, and doesn't nickel and dime you with additional hidden costs for waxing like other big chains (a separate charge for each area for example) so you cannot beat her prices! This place really pissed me off. I wanted to like it so bad. I really did. I called before I made an appointment to see if she had a certain wax (cerepil) I could use without having an allergic reaction because I have severe allergies to honey wax, so I explained the situation and she told me she had the wax I wanted. I drove here and got here super early (my mistake) so I waited the full 30 minutes for my wax. It's $40 for a full brazilian front and back. I told her I wanted that over the phone. After getting my wax in the front I guess she forgot I wanted the back so I reminded her and she did it. However I got a full hard wax brazilian and then she proceeded to remove the residual with a wax I'm allergic to so my entire vag and ass were itchy for TWO weeks and look like someone lit me on fire. I'm light skinned and they were bright red. I had to get a prescription from a doctor in which I have no medical insurance to cover the visit or the cost of the prescription. If anything I should be offered a free service of something else, or get my money back. Neither of which have been offered to me. Let's just say that was the worst 2 weeks at work. People probably thought I had a hemorrhoid. read more

My roommate dragged me here one day while we were running errands. My eyebrows needed some love so I reluctantly agreed to sit down and let them go to work. I normally go to a nail salon to get my eyebrows waxed in a back room that looks more like a closet. This place was dedicated to waxing, a very refreshing idea. I sat down next to my roommate in a very comfortable spa chair while the woman went to work. She first cleaned my eyebrows with rubbing alcohol and then waxed away. She took a lot of time designing the shape and waxed the top, the bottom, and the middle. She also trimmed them and tweezed a little. She then proceeded to thread my eyebrows which I did not care for at all. The ripping of the thread makes me cringe because I can hear it and it is slightly more painful to me than tweezing or waxing. That being said, the woman did take a lot of time making sure that my eyebrows were perfect, which I appreciate. The price (at $12) was more expensive than I am used to. I normally pay between $7-8 with tip. I ended up spending $14 with tip. I will probably be back but not as frequently. The massage at the end (temples and forehead) was awesome. My eyebrows looked great and they were not very red at all when I left. read more

I am always hesitant to try new waxing places, so you can imagine my delight when I found out that my favorite woman from the waxing house owned JJ Waxing. I swear by Esther---she can do a brazilian in less than 10-15 mins and it barely hurts (and I'm not good with pain). A brazilian is only $35, which is the best deal I've found in the city. DO NOT GET A BIKINI WAX/BRAZILIAN HERE!!!!! i got one done two weeks ago and at first everything was fine...now im getting ingrown hairs and its disgusting she definetely didnt do something correctly.Ive had bikini waxes done before and this did not happen . also after the bikini wax was done she did not put anything on . she just removed SOME( waxy hair chunks that had been waxed out were still on my skin) of the wax with oil , and that was the only thing she put on it. I like the place but there is one employee, I think her name is Nicole who is a huge sourpuss with an even bigger attitude problem. She looks at you like you're stupid and she has no sense of what customer service is. When asked why I wasn't notified about my appointment canceling I got I don't know you have to request a person when you set an appointment online. I DID THAT. The person called in sick but I'm still getting texts and emails about making my appointment on time today. She offered no help or reasoning and gave me a dirty look while she told me to take it up with the owner.
