Jack did a fantastic job on my garage roof. He arrived for the estimate exactly on time, with no excuses (something the 3 other contractors couldn't manage to do). He looked at the work needed, gave me a fair price, and completed the job within a week, just as he said. His crew is meticulous with the work, and especially with the cleanup. I arrived after dark the day the roof was done and I wasn't entirely sure they had even done it (although I could tell the the roof vents were new from the silhouette). The following day, I did indeed have a new roof, just as promised. I worked out in the yard around the garage and I didn't find even a sliver of shingle or a shard of misplaced mulch. They did the work as promised and left the area cleaner than they found it. I will continue to use his services as I start on new projects. I'm writing this review based on work done six months ago by Jack and his crew. And, I'm happy to report not a single negative since the work was done. We had a new tear-off roof done on our home. Jack was prompt in replying and didn't pressure us to make a decision. He explained what we should do, and why, and didn't do more than was necessary, so the price was right. The work was amazingly completed in one day, and the only tell-tale sign that any workers were at the home was a single cigarette butt! (No biggie, obviously.) Six months later, I am happy to report that the roof looks great, and the recommendations he made for venting and materials have resulted in a cooler house and a lower electricity bill. read more

Had JL out to give us an estimate on a new roof (long story, but our 203 loan nearly didn't go through because of this argument). JL came out and told us that we still had several years left in our roof, and he suggested only doing the parapet now, and the rest of the roof later. Score one for honesty (he'll have our business when that time comes). Secondly, we're super weird about our yard because it's made of artificial grass and can damage easily. I could see on our security cam that the workers (without us being there) carefully laid tarps on the edges so nothing would ruin it. They also cleaned up pretty well too. Third, our retired neighbor watched the whole project go down, and he commented on how hard everyone was working - he's having them do work on his place too now, which is high praise. Finally, I was able to send payment electronically through the bank. SO much better than taking time off to meet someone to give them a check. Great experience all around! read more

It starts with Jack being exactly on time to walk the job. None of the other contractors I contacted could manage that. I had a roofing job that was quite a bit more than just the roof. My house is almost 100 yrs old and still had the original roof under a few layers. Squirrels had been nesting in my attic for years. Between the squirrels and time there was significant damage the the fascia, soffit, chimney was leaning, window caps in disrepair, some of the stucco was falling away. Jack was the third contractor that looked at the project and I was really hopeful after reading all his glowing reviews that he would impress me. His quote was a little lower than the first two but that is not why I hired him. It was very clear to me that he was already doing the job in his head. He began asking questions that no one else had, and brought up issues that I hadn't thought of. The fact that the stucco had to be cut to put the new flashing in and while I'm doing that, I may as well fix the stucco falling off the dormer. He had a contact for that. Since my electric service was also 100 years old and running down the soffit, it had to be replaced and moved. He had a contact for that. About the time Jack's crew began working, my central went out. Of course it's 100 degrees outside and the central is 30 years old. He gave me the name of the contractor that installed a whole new central system in my house. All along the process, Jack responded to my phone and emails immediately. His crew cleaned up every night after the job so well that you couldn't tell they had started if you didn't look up. J.L. doesn't do everything but there's a pretty good chance that he knows someone that can do what you need. From this project I have a contact list full of contractors that I trust. Electrician, HVAC, Builder, Masons, Gutter & Tin, & Fencer. I looked around and they all did great work and had fair prices. My house really stands out now. read more

We had a crumbling fake stone facade and needed some tuckpointing work . Jack came over and gave us a very reasonable estimate for the tuckpointing . He admitted that he cannot fix the stone facade, but he spent a long time trying to find someone to do the job, as well as get ideas on how to fix it. We ended up hiring someone else because fixing the stone facade was more crucial. However I won't hesitate to hire him for another job because I found him to be sincere and honest. read more

Jack did a complete flat roof tear off and replacement about a month ago for us. His guys were very professional, I wouldn't have even known they were here as they were taking the ladder up instead of ever coming through the house. The roof looks incredible, very nicely setup for proper drainage. It's rained a good amount since then and the water doesn't pool at all. Jack was very easy to work with. The workers had one minor mishap with some limited collateral damage and he took care of everything, never requesting the final payment for the roof until it was done to our satisfaction. I have already recommended him to our neighbors and would do the same for anyone else. My one piece of advice is to book him in advance because he is very busy. read more

Have you ever had to choose a contractor without knowing everything about them? We did by looking on Yelp!. JL Contractor Services LTD was one of three we contacted for quotes, and I am glad we did. The level of professional was superb. Jack kept us apprised of the progress of our new sidewalk from day one. The weather initially pushed the start date back by two weeks, but as soon as the weather became better Jack's crew was at the house and ready to go. The sidewalk looks great. He replaced the front sidewalk and the back sidewalk along the house. It is going to last for a long time. We have been waiting a long time to do the project but with the excellent service and the beautiful sidewalk. Can a sidewalk be beautiful? You bet. These guys do great work. They rebuilt the walls of our garage and back porch, sided them with vinyl siding, and gave us a new backdoor. We had to wait a long time to get on their schedule, but the wait was worth it. They did beautiful work, communicating very well all along the way, and left the site spotless. I had all but given up the idea of ever having my "dream home" without having a nervous breakdown and loss of my retirement nest egg. I've had contractors convince me to buy all the materials to "save money" for myself, which turned out to be a joke because they overbought just about everything and I had to go through major hoops returning everything that wasn't used. I've had people tell me they'd have it done in a month. They forgot to finish the sentence: A month of SUNDAYS. I've had full grown super-sized men manage to disappear off the face of the earth for weeks, yes WEEKs at a time. And worst of all, I've had people tell me that their specialty was meticulous attention to detail, dotting the i's and crossing the t's and assuring me with the Boy Scout Oath that they would redo any mistakes, make good on anything "bad", and never charge me more than the agreed upon proposal. LIES! That's just for starters--I've had irreplaceable items that I thought they'd moved to a safe place destroyed--like a box of heirloom dishes that I found buried safely in the back of a closet AFTER they'd already dropped something heavy on it and broke every one. Unfortunately I didn't discover that until they were long gone. My first inclination was to write scorching, caustic reviews about all those Sad Sacks--but, you never know, they could bury ME in a box that no one would ever find. Now that I've found Joseph of the North Shore, I've licked my wounds and am ready to take a more positive approach in the form of high praise for a Job not only well done, but superlatively done. Joseph will do the exact polar opposite of all the bad stuff I mentioned above. Plus, he's so easy to talk to, is a good listener, and will give you what YOU want, not what HE wants. JL Contractor Services formed and poured new footings, walls and a slab in our coach house/garage. The floor originally consisted of wood decking (2x8 floor boards and joist framing) over a dirt. I opted to do the demo in house and hired Jack to pour the slab. After removing the existing floor, it was determined that the foundation needed to be replaced as well; mixture of block and brick, along with what ever else was laying around when the garage was originally built. Jack came back out and re-quoted the job with the new scope. Over the course of 5 weeks, Jack was in constant communication with his teams schedule and was considerate of mine as we worked through the different phases. Of the three bids I reviewed for the job, Jack was the most complete and I am confident we went with the right contractor.
