    Undercooked catfish.
    Bill B.

First, I had read several great reviews about JLB and they were the driver for our visit. I'm a big fish and chips fan, so rather than a burger, I opted for the fish, which turned out to be catfish, not cod. My mistake. However, even though the meal looked great when it was served, I soon found out that the catfish was undercooked and raw. The fries, hushpuppy, onion rings, and Texas toast were all acceptable, although very greasy, the raw fish was disgusting. I told and showed our server the raw fish and she did offer to prepare a replacement meal of refund our current version. I declined both as I had completely lost my appetite at the time and wanted to get home. The restaurant was quite and clean appearing, so no issues thete.

The cheeseburger was huge and very delicious.

First time here. Just read the reviews and decided to try the place for my husband's birthday. We both like the burgers, it was huge and delicious. We will definitely come back to try other things in the menu.

I rarely give out five stars--but this visit absolutely deserved it! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the quiet, relaxed atmosphere made for an enjoyable meal. The service was friendly and attentive. While the food takes a bit of time to come out, it's always worth the wait. Every visit to this location ends with everyone happy and full. The bathrooms were also impressively clean--a detail that never goes unnoticed. The only thing that could make it perfect? If they served Coke instead of Pepsi!

    Chicken Bacon Avocado Burger

Bro. So frickin fire. Lawd have mercy. We got the chicken wings and brotha they were so crispy and juicy and fresh !!! My Pop got the Chicken Bacon Avocado burger and as you can see it looks huge. Good portion size but I will say the actual meat piece isnt that thick so it looks bigger than it is. I got the fried barbecue Pork Chop burger and it was delicious. Crispy fry, tender pork, crispy onion rings inside, and just filled my soul right on up. That's sandwich could make a bishop kick holes through stained glass windows. Ambiance is comfy and southern, and the service was kind a quick. This is officially my home-town comfort spot

Fried Oreos and funnel cake fries

I am willing to drive across town just to eat here- in fact, even across the COUNTRY! No exaggeration. Their food is extremely fresh and they truly do have some of the best, juiciest, most flavorful and succulent burgers- and they're also HUGE and at such a great price point- I got the avocado burger. Their fries also came out super crispy, you can tell that they're FRESH French fries- trust me, I love me a good potato and they delivered. Not pictured here- but I also had their wings, and let me tell you, I dove in so quickly and devoured them I didn't even have time to take a picture. Truly, so well coated on the outside, they have mastered the crispy crunch on the outside even with their sauce on top, and super steamy and juicy chicken on the inside. You will not be eating dry wings. Also- hands down cannot forget their onion rings. I was sharing with friends and I'm pretty sure I ate the majority of them- they were so good. Also- if you crave for fair food, you can get them year-round here with fried Oreos, funnel cake fries, you name it. I kid you not, my stomach grumbled as I'm typing this and I'm also salvaging. I came here back at the end of December and I'm a full-time grad student writing this- it's THAT good that I'm still thinking about it from across the country. Truly, the people are even more amazing and better- some of the most kind-hearted people work here who just really make the space beautiful and environment so welcoming and loving. Truly, will be back here again soon!

Very tasty burger - should have gotten the double patty - the single patty is too much bread. I thought it tasted really great but would prefer a smaller bun, thicker patties and cheaper price. Total cost no drink or fries $11.85 gave a cash tip.

    Crazy burger with fries
    Aden T.

I don't say this often - but this was the best burger I have ever had!! My husband and I decided to share the Crazy burger with fries, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance of this spot was great, it felt like a neighborhood restaurant and the staff was very kind. The crazy burger was packed with flavor, and it was a solid size for the price. Fries were phenomenal as well. Overall - a great experience!

Got some treats for the kids today. Fried Oreos and Funnel cake fries. Super crispy, sweet and delicious! Although they are known for their burgers, their fried desserts are so good and remind me of eating at a carnival. I can't wait to come back and try more food from here.

Burgers were good but it was so pricey. Paid nearly 50 dollars for two burgers. We got the Bacon Avocado Burger and substituted our fries.

I'm not much of a seafood person, but my wife is. Thankfully they had a burger on the menu! Double smash burger and fries for me, Serafin's fish tacos for her. The burger was good, I liked the fact that the smashed patties weren't smashed too thin. So often all I get is meat crust, these had body as well. The burger and fries were great, but when I saw and tasted the fish tacos I immediately knew I'd be getting them next time. I only got a bite, but it was yummy with the sauce.

Our server was friendly, attentive, and had a great attitude from start to finish. Unfortunately, almost everything else felt like a step backward. The menu has been reduced dramatically. Once you take away the oyster selections, there are very few entrée choices left. Many of the dishes that kept me coming back are no longer offered. The drink menu has also been cut down significantly. They used to have a much better selection, and it just doesn't feel like the same restaurant anymore. Another frustration is that they're in an area with poor cell service, yet customer Wi-Fi is no longer available. Whether you're trying to check a message, work while you eat, or simply stay connected, it's almost impossible. As for the food, it was just okay. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. I ordered the crab cake with the arugula salad and a shrimp cocktail. Ironically, the small arugula salad that came with the single crab cake was the best part of my meal. The crab cake and shrimp cocktail were fine, but neither was memorable or something I'd come back for. Overall, it feels like Half Shells has lost much of what made it special. Between the limited menu, reduced drink options, lack of Wi-Fi, and average food, it's no longer the destination it once was for me. I truly hope they reconsider some of these changes because I'd love to see this restaurant return to what made it such a great place to dine.

We came in with a group and decided to go all in--and I'm so glad we did because every single dish showed up and showed out. Let's start with the cheeseburger and fries--this wasn't your average bar burger. It was thick, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right. The kind of burger where every bite is flavorful and satisfying. And those fries? Golden, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside... basically impossible to stop eating. The shepherd's pie (full order) was pure comfort in a dish. Rich, savory meat layered with vegetables and topped with creamy mashed potatoes that were baked to a beautiful golden finish. It had that homemade, hearty feel that just hits different--especially when you're sharing with good company. Now the fish and chips... WOW. Light, crispy batter that didn't overpower the fish, which was flaky and tender inside. Not greasy, not heavy--just perfectly fried and paired with fries that held their crunch. Exactly what you want from a proper Irish pub. And let's talk about the wings--because we tried two kinds, including the Jameson wings, and they were next-level. The sauce had that smooth, slightly sweet, slightly bold whiskey flavor that made them stand out in the best way. Sticky, flavorful, and cooked just right. The other wings held their own too--great crisp, great sauce coverage, and packed with flavor. Beyond the food, one thing that always stands out to me is how clean and well-kept the place is. That matters--and Blue Rooster Irish Pub & Grill consistently delivers. It makes the whole experience feel comfortable, welcoming, and just easy to enjoy. Great food, great atmosphere, and a place that clearly takes pride in what they do.

She was actually quite good so from that perspective, I was quite pleased as well. The manager was aware of our presence, and because it was the first time we had ever gone, she made it a point to drop by greet us and make us an offer for a free pizza on the way. The food is consistent with the setting and the service we have general fair of hamburger and french fries both of which were quite good. The hamburger was a bit overcooked for me I had asked for a rare and it came probably medium, but I'm not going to necessarily condemn a place on the first visit when all the other aspects of it were quite good and the hamburger was not at all bad. The drinks were very good and as I say, the service spectacular. If you're looking for a sports bar with good ambience, good service and good food. This is not a bad place to come at all.

We were in Fulshear and wanted to try something different that we don't have near us, so we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant itself is beautiful on the outside with an inside that has a modern, open design. You come in and seat yourself, and while there were several tables available, the restaurant definitely wasn't empty. There were people dining in the back room and out on the porch. It was a gorgeous day, but we opted for the AC. Service wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't especially attentive. It took a while for someone to come by with menus, and throughout the meal things just seemed to move slowly despite the restaurant not appearing understaffed. I don't mind a relaxed pace, but I also don't want to spend my entire afternoon sitting indoors at some random restaurant waiting around. We started with chips and queso. The chips were decent, but the queso was extremely thin and soupy--more like cheese soup than queso--thus definitely not worth the $10 price tag. Unless you love soupy queso. Then maybe it's definitely worth the $10 to you. For lunch, my brother and mom ordered The Local Burger with Fries and added avocado, my friend ordered the Beef Tenderloin Steak Wrap with Chips, and I tried the Spicy Buffalo Pizza because honestly, every menu starts looking the same after a while, and I wanted something different. Unfortunately, there were several issues with our order. Everyone's food arrived but my brother's because our server somehow assumed mom and he were sharing one burger since they ordered the same thing. They also forgot the avocado add-on for both burgers. Mom gave my brother her basket, and they shared the burger until his came, which was about 10 to 15 minutes later. Mom liked the fries because they came out hot and weren't overly salted, but neither she nor my brother really raved about the burgers. I think by then they forgot they asked for avocado, and we weren't charged for it, but that's kind of annoying to ask for something and nothing is said...they just quietly make sure not to charge you for it. The Spicy Buffalo Pizza was probably the biggest disappointment for me. I expected a more traditional buffalo chicken pizza, but instead it was kind of a layered, heavily drizzled mess that didn't really work together. The crust also appeared to be some sort of cornmeal-style crust that wasn't my favorite and didn't hold up well under the weight of the toppings. It was the kind of slice you knew would end up on you rather than in you, so I was really careful to make sure it hit the pizza board and not me. I ended up boxing most of it for my housemate. Mark wanted dessert, and they have something called "The Spot Ice Cream Sandwich," which is a brownie or assorted cookie with vanilla ice cream and toppings. Mom asked whether he could simply order the brownie by itself, and our server Victor said he would ask, but we never actually got an answer. One thing that really annoys me at restaurants is charging $4 for fountain drinks and then not keeping them refilled. Victor did eventually ask about refills, but by then the meal was basically over. Overall, this place wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. The atmosphere and design are probably the strongest part of the experience. I wouldn't necessarily avoid it, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to come back. What made lunch even funnier is that next door at Cross Creek Ranch, there's a hanging sign advertising an "observation deck." We had debated going before lunch but decided to eat first and then check it out afterward. Much like the restaurant itself, the concept sounded far more impressive than the actual experience. There really wasn't much to observe. I just found it amusing that both experiences ended up being equally mediocre.
