An employee had just served the customer ahead of me, but when I stepped forward, he refused to take my order, stating that he wasn't accepting any more--even though door was open, lights were on and music was playing. When he saw me he turned off lights turned off music and looked at me as if he wanted me to get the point. though I had been waiting and it was literally 4:01. What made it worse was hearing him say that he doesn't get paid extra to work past 4:00, so he simply didn't care. His attitude was unprofessional and dismissive. I understand closing procedures, but customer service should never stop abruptly--especially while still serving others just moments before. This experience left a sour taste, not because of the coffee (which I didn't get to try), but because of how unwelcome and disregarded I felt. I hope management addresses this behavior, because this is not how any business should treat paying customers.

I have to be honest, I had my doubts. As popular as they are, sometimes the early succeeding brands/institutions get success early and tend to not meet the current standard of excellence/modernity. Stumptown proved me wrong! I stopped by for a cup and asked for my typical cappuccino, and it was definitely one of the best I've had in the city. The texture was perfect; the espresso and steamed milk married each other beautifully into one homogeneous texture. The espresso had a distinct flavor, not shy - bold, savory, rich. It was the perfect size, and I hadn't had a cup like that in a while, though I've been searching. Really excellent job - and I can see why they're still successful. Keep it up Stumptown, you're awesome!
