I'm not a coffee snob by any means, but I know what I like, and this satisfies the daily caffeine habit I've fully accepted I'm never quitting. Stumptown Coffee is an institution in the coffee world and has been around for a long time. You might've seen their product on shelves, beans/ground coffee that never "expire." I have to be honest, I had my doubts. As popular as they are, sometimes the early succeeding brands/institutions get success early and tend to not meet the current standard of excellence/modernity. Stumptown proved me wrong! I stopped by for a cup and asked for my typical cappuccino, and it was definitely one of the best I've had in the city. The texture was perfect; the espresso and steamed milk married each other beautifully into one homogeneous texture. The espresso had a distinct flavor, not shy - bold, savory, rich. It was the perfect size, and I hadn't had a cup like that in a while, though I've been searching. Really excellent job - and I can see why they're still successful. This location has a special kind of charm. This spot was formerly Eigth Street Bookshop. The interior features beautiful bookshelf, built-ins from the former bookstore. It is a cornerstone to the neighborhood and a conversational cafe for visitors. Great espresso, drip, and cold brew. Their breakfast style tacos are good too! read more

Very cozy location with a very good amount of indoor seating. I got an iced chai latte and it had a good flavor a mix of sweet and spicy which I love in a chai. My friend got the iced matcha latte and I also tried a few sips- it was very milked down and we could barely taste the matcha flavor. Got the almond croissant as well and it was delicious! Came by for coffee the other day and it was a world class experience. Staff was super cordial. Ordered the small mocha and it was a perfect tiny small size. Stumptown was a 1 minute walk away from our hotel, and was located in a really convenient and nice location. Their storefront was really nice and they have several tables for outside seating and around 5 tables for indoor seating. The interior is also super cute and the lighting and plants add to the vibe. The store wasn't super crowded when we went, but most of the tables are usually occupied. They have pastries and tea like matcha too. I came here a total of 3 times and got the vanilla latte twice and the cold brew with oat milk once. The vanilla latte was vanilla-y and not too sweet with an almost warm nutty flavor to it. It was definitely my favorite thing here. The cold brew with oat milk is not sweetened but the coffee is definitely high quality. I'd definitely recommend getting the vanilla latte and I immediately purchased one of their coffee grounds from Target since I was addicted. Even though I drink my fair share of coke brews during the summer time, I'm not big on the fancier chains. I was on my way to barre and was super early and decided to stop here for a cold brew without knowing that this was a well known national establishment. The inside was beautifully decorated but there was no option for indoor seating, which was also maybe why the air conditioner wasn't on when it was almost above 90 degrees outside. They had some good outdoor seating. I got a large cold brew with oat milk and a pump of simple syrup. It was over 6 dollars and I had to double check that this was indeed a large serving of coffee. The coffee was average. It was definitely not worth over 6 dollars. So far, my favorite cold brew this summer has been Proof! read more

My friend insisted we visit Stumptown on our NY trip and, although I rarely drink coffee, I obliged. The ambiance inside is inviting, warm, and welcoming. If we didn't have places to be, we could've stayed for hours. The staff were so friendly, talked us through the menu, and gave us great recommendations. Had to wait 30mins for one drink over dramatic staff. My drink was taken by another customer and it had to be remade. No problem. And then I receive a wrong drink - a chai latte instead of a latte. I tell the barista and she insists it is the oat latte. Then she goes on to tell her co workers how rude I am and leaves the bar to get a fresh air. Then comes back and continues to talk loudly how she is having a terrible time here. And even after that I had to wait another ten minutes to get my drink that was somehow pushed to the last by her coworker - no latte art just a pour. Lady with a voice of a goat- it is not your fault that someone took my order but it is not my fault either. I know the staff is not friendly here but talking about customers on the bar like that over serving a drink and purposefully delaying the reorder is unprofessional at another level. I'm sure a busy day at a busy location like this can be an overwhelming experience but this case made me think of a gen-z employee throwing a tantrum over a simple task meme. read more

~ Here for the vibes ~ I would definitely give this place 5 stars for pretty good coffee and an excellent cafe. Every place has a different taste to their coffee, especially when they have an array of roasts. The flavor of their coffee when I visited was thick and earthy, and I quite like the taste!!! It's not my favorite but it's still enjoyable and tasty. They don't charge extra for "alternative" milks either which is really nice and makes being green or easy on the stomach a lot more accessible LOL. Of course the coffee and drinks taste pretty good, and of course they can be expensive since it's more of a fancy coffee shop, but it's worth it, so is the beautiful environment and atmosphere that you get to drink it in. The cafe interior is beautiful, decorative, and warm; the coziness of this place is unmatched. It's like old library or uncle bookworm's home study! Super nice. I worked there for about two hours and I got a table to my self, and was able to charge my devices while working. There are a few wall chargers along the seating side of the cafe. And it's a wonderful place to work. It's got nice music and atmosphere and people coming and going; it's only mildly distracting because it did get busy and I'm assuming gets been more so. But you can still listen to music and get things done. Whatever. The baristas are pretty nice, and fun to watch, there is a cooler for food and drinks in the front that you can grab and buy things additionally; and in the back there are shelves with cute merch! I bought two cups! They also have wifi too so don't worry about getting connected! It's a super cute cafe with pretty nice coffee, I would definitely go more often! I'm familiar with stumptown being from Boston. If you know tatte, that cafe uses their coffee. It was okay, not amazing, the oat milk latte I got. There are so many places to get coffee in nyc and because I don't live super close and it wasn't amazing, I'm not itching to go back. I was a little surprised because tatte lattes are really good. They use chobani oat milk, but stumptown uses oatly, so maybe that's the difference. Or the coffee blend? Basically, okay cup of coffee. Strong and delicious Cold Brew. After a long day of being a tourist in NYC, we stopped in Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a late afternoon fix. We were just walking by on our way back to where I was staying. It was calling my name, and I couldn't resist. I didn't want to resist :-) It's located very close to Washington Square Park and NYU. I have a feeling most people stumble across this location while walking to their destinations. I had the original in Portland and loved this place. They have the hands-down best coffee. If you think the blue bottle is good, you will love this place even more. Their coffee bean is so good and we always get a pack to bring back home and it tastes just as good. I am jealous NYC has couple of locations throughout the city. Cute spot near Washington Square Park-- checked it out at the suggestion of an actor I admire. Great vibe and a friendly barista. I'm familiar with Stumptown as a chain, so I more or less knew what to expect, but their nitro cold brew was something else entirely. Tis for the brave of heart! It kept me buzzed for several hours, so have lots of water if you get it!! My partner went with a standard iced latte, which was also pretty good.
