Joes Brick oven pizza has been sold it no longer exist on West 231st St. in Broadway. Now the pizza place is called Charlie's Pizza and so far--- it does not taste good! Joe left the neighborhood with his family without even telling his loyal customers he was leaving permanently. I'm sad to see him go. I would've loved to have said! Pleasant surprise. My go-to place for years is Sam's Pizza down the block from this place but the other night Sam's was closed and so I ducked into this place for the first time. Pizza was great. Kinda very similar to Sam's (are these ppl related?). Sam's is still a notch better but this place deserves to be supported. read more

I've been coming here occasionally for well over a year now, and Joe's definitely has the best plain slice in the city. No other pizza place in all of NYC has came close. Born and raised on Long Island, I can confirm this is the best plain slice I've ever had read more

My HS niece and her friends just love this place. I've been walking by it for years. I've never gone in. Didn't even realize that they had a huge menu of food. But I just had to have a slice. Whenever something says "brick oven" in New York you always question whether or not the crust is as good as being implied. It is. Thin and perfect. Delicious pizza. Good price. Nice people. Come have a slice. This plate shows that I had two at the same time. Lol. Couldn't resist. I just read a review from a typical pretentious Manhattan reviewer who walks into the Bronx thinking they're going to be the next New York Times food critic by enlightening us with his "Elite" palate as to what Pizza truly is. Please ignore this putz-- the goal of folks like this is to tear a place down as opposed to truly critique the food. Read a few more of his reviews and you'll see what I'm talking about. I was visiting Riverdale for a few days. Walking from the subway I passed by Joe's. It was my first 'slice' of the trip. The crust was not to thick, not to thin. The sauce was great, and there was plenty of cheese, but not too much! The woman working at the front couldn't have been nicer. The owner, who I'm assuming is named Joe, but I didn't ask, was busy making the pizza. It was good enough that I went back later in the day for another slice. The Bronx is world-renowned for having the best pizza, and Joe's proudly carries on that tradition. This is a small family-run establishment with big things happening inside. The room is usually fairly busy, but that doesn't stop the staff or the owner from offering a friendly greeting when you come up to the counter. If like most people you get a slice you will be amazed at the size, which is almost 1 1/2 times larger than what you are accustomed to. Joe's pizza has a crispy crust with just a bit of char from the brick oven. There is also a generous amount of cheese on the slice. Word of advice...if you order a pie you will have enough to feed 3-4 very happy people. My only complaint about Joe's is that it isn't closer to where I live. read more

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!! THE OWNER IS RACIST AND BELITTLING!! The whole family was there around 5 pm today. I came in and wanted to cheese slices . THE SON WAS VERY NICE , however the lady had an attitude when I proceeded to ask for my slices to be placed in a BOX as I sit inside and seen THE OWNER I SEEN WIPE OFF THEIR TABLES WITH DRY TISSUE IN BETWEEN CUSTOMERS. SO! it was my preference to ask for a box so that my slice does not touch the tables. when I was finished I had one slice left and realized I actually needed the bag. I was refused the box at first because they have a "verbal" rule that , YOU CANNOT EAT INSIDE WITH A BOX , BOXES ARE ONLY FOR TO GO. so while I appreciated them telling me their SOP for the store, as a paying customer I felt I had a right to ask for a bag if needed. the son asked the lady who then told me she couldn't, when I asked why not or if they can just charge me for it , she went towards the back and the owner came out to enforce what she said and said because of their BUDGETING they can't give me a bag , when I told him that has nothing to do with me as I paid and was willing to pay for the bag he escalated the issue by calling me " dumb, stupid and un-educated" also said it while others were in the store , and this is all because I stated the truth. he then called the cops after I said I would create a video and take photos of how poor the service and experience was. I Spoke to an Officer Morreira who understood and was unsure why police were called over a BAG REQUEST . I left my food on the counter since I couldn't get the bag, I told others who asked me what happened. and I hope no one ever experiences what I did today! read more

I came here the other day with my friends. As soon as I walked in I was enthralled by all the cool posters on the wall. Then, I was met with fantastic service. My phone was dead and they helped me charge it. I ordered a margarita and a white slice and my friends ordered plain cheese. This was the best slice I have had a longggg time. Don't have any pictures yet but we purchased a large pie with pepperoni and although it seems like I had to wait forever for it. The food was good. I think better than most that I tasted in this area. The service was good. They took my order without a problem. This is a very small location though so not a lot of tables to dine at, but you can if the seats are available. I say that because this place seems to always be full wherever I pass by, or even want to come for a plain slice. This place also attracts a lot of teens. I can see why, after buying a whole pie from here. The pizza is pretty good. I think that out of all the Pizza establishments in this area I'm gonna stick with this one. Ordered pizza, not heated, since its a few miles from home, hence, it would be cold by then. Once home, heated in my toaster oven... have to say, I can tell it was cooked in a real brick oven, especially the edges that toasted nicely, very crispy. Texture, flavor, ingredients tasted great! Will drop by again in the future to get another slice. For $2.50, the size is generously large, great value. read more

I'm by no means a pizza expert and I'm afraid to admit but very rarely get pizza. This place was busy and I somehow got into a conversation with some folks about the best pizza in the neighbor hood. I didn't have their regular slice - I went with a margherita and it was nice and cheesy. Like she was thicc with cheese... and really I'm here for the cheese. I'm going to try it again with the nephews to get a final verdict but I would go back for that slice. read more

I ordered a large Margherita pizza which was delicious. They're not stingy with the mozzarella cheese & the tomato sauce doesn't give me heartburn which is a plus. The slices are big. read more

Both the man and the woman behind the counter were very friendly. The pizza itself was standard. The cheese overwhelmed the sauce taste, though. What put me off about this place was it looked like a tornado came through. There were napkins, straw wrappers, and other debris strewn across the floor in the seating area. The door was open so the breeze seemed to blow everything around. When the traffic slowed, no one came out to clean the tables or to sweep the floor. I do understand that they may not have the manpower but this makes the place look very dirty and unwelcoming. The pizza itself is decent for the neighborhood since there aren't many good pizza places but I will take my pizza to go next time. read more
