The food was excellent! I only had one bad experience with the waitress or cashier I believe her name was Sherry or sher very rude. I don't think that she could handle that job seem too stressed out But as far as the deli it was very good food. Just for that I would recommend eating here. I have only been here several times since the ownership changed hands a year or two ago, but so far I am not super impressed. My primary complaint is about the service. Twice I have gone in and ordered a sandwich to go during my lunch break. Both times they made my sandwich and then set it aside without announcing that it was ready, even though I was sitting right by the register waiting for it. I ended up unnecessarily waiting approximately 20-30 minutes both times even though they did not appear to be busy. I had thought it was a fluke the first time, but when they did the exact same thing the second time I realized that must not be the case. My husband went in recently to get a sandwich to go recently as well and he said they took an excessively long time to get his order ready and when he got it home, there was a very slimy, rotten piece of produce in the first bite. Thankfully the rest of the sandwich was fine, but that spoiled bite was off putting. The old owners also used to include a delicious side pasta salad with their sandwiches. The new owners do not include anything on the side, with the exception of one time including a slice of pickle, and I believe the prices are higher than they used to be. I am normally a big proponent of supporting small, locally owned businesses but I don't think I will be returning any time soon. read more

My first 2 visits to this place was for a beer only and not much interaction with the staff then. I just recently went there 06/08/19 during the Niles Cruise night and took a couple of friends with me. We walked in about 9:30pm (they close at 10pm) and sat at the bar. When looking at the menu the gentlemen at the bar (which I believe is the new owner) advised they were no longer serving food. When I asked if he was willing to make just a couple cold sandwiches he looked at me for the first time since arrived, and gave me a scared look and rudely asked me "what was wrong with my forehead." Mind you, I have scars on my forehead that are truly none of his business and how rude of him to approach me like that the first time speaking with him! When I told him he was out of place for asking such a question and he was going to be losing regular business from patrons who have gone to this place for YEARS, he then said I was bullying him and to order a drink or get out! He did this in front of about 6 people sitting at his pathetic bar. I was truly embarrassed and then was being told that I was bullying him! I will never go to this place again and from the looks of the reviews, I'm not the only one who has said they have horrible people skills. My family who also lives on this street for over 20 years and regular customers will no longer be giving this idiot business as well! read more

Came here for a muffuletta but it's no longer on the menu. The owners are very nice and were willing to recreate a version of the sandwich with ingredients on hand, but I went with a Spicy Joe sammy which was ace . There are plenty of beers on tap most of which are IPAs. My friend wanted a special order of two half sammies and they were happy to do that for her. The food, service, prices, and view from the bar were all quite good. A++++ would visit again. read more

Probably the worst breakfast I have ever had. Ordered off their minimal (5 item) menu. Everything is $5.95. Horrible French Toast. Completely dry. If they put it in egg mixture, it was for 5 seconds, it didn't soak through even a bit. No flavor at all. Came with bacon, I think it was that fake Sizzlean stuff. Ultra thin, again no flavor, and basically shattered when you bit into it. My husband ordered eggs and ham. Came with "complimentary fruit" - it was an orange slice. The eggs were cold, the ham was thin sliced fried deli ham. Nasty. Needless to say, we will NEVER be back. read more

Popped in here today for lunch and had an AMAZING sandwich - the portobello. OMG. I cleaned the plate! I've been in a few times but never long enough to sit and enjoy a full meal - usually just for a quick beer. Joe's is such a fabulous little gem, I love how cozy and family oriented it is! We stopped here for a quick dinner to take home on Saturday night. We didn't even realize it was closing time, but the owners Bob and Melissa were very warm and welcoming. Melissa made us fresh sandwiches to order (an Italian with several different meats, a wonderful special-of-the-day Mozzarella and Pesto Panini, and a cheese sandwich for my son). He said it was the best he had ever tasted! While we waited for our order, Melissa gave us samples of various meats to try, the gardinera vegetables, and even chips. Bob brought us out two cups of soup to try, I think it was the Italian Wedding variety. It was very good. When we got home, we discovered that the sandwiches were fresh and flavorful, so delicious. The potato salad also was fantastic. We will definitely be back. We welcome this new addition to Niles and look forward to the expanding menu. Melissa said that she will be expanding the menu slowly, to give her time to master each new menu item she introduces instead of trying to introduce them all at once and not being very successful at it. She intends to have a few hot entrees in the evening. They also have a tap wall with 12 kinds of beer on tap. I'm sure that will be a big hit! They were cash only last week, but Melissa said she plans to start taking credit cards as of the last week in September 2012. Periodically I try this place and I'm not sure why. It's mediocre at best. Today I tried the caprese salad and chicken nuggets. The tomatoes were only okay (it's summer for chrissakes fresh tomatoes are everywhere) I don't think they use whole milk mozzarella, they skimp on the basil and there is no seasoning. Like salt and pepper. Pretty basic and a huge miss. It isn't even hard to get this right. Nuggets = frozen and blah. Like most semi popular restaurants in Fremont I am puzzled by why people like it. If your experience consists of fast food and chain restaurants it explains why you find the food here anything more than barely palatable. The staff is so distracted that they wouldn't last two minutes at any business with high service standards. On the upside, i dig the ambiance and wine selection. I think that its great that the new owners have taken the time to re-do the place... I have heard a bunch about this place but since I have lived in Niles the place has been shut down... Came to Joe's for breakfast with my friend on a Friday morning. We were caught off guard because there was no physical menu anywhere but the ladies behind the bar were so kind to help us choose what to order. We both ended up getting a breakfast sandwich and a mocha. The breakfast sandwich definitely hit the spot! We asked what the lady put in it and she mentioned her secret ingredient was just a little bit of oregano. The mocha tasted perfect, like it was actually made with real chocolate! Hubby and I heard about Joes, so we stopped in 2 weeks ago.. The ladies were nice but not attentive. They seemed preoccupied and there were only 2 people sitting down in the restaurant. I realize its a new place but it didnt seem warm. It definitely needs to be decorated. Standing at the bar/counter waiting to order was a bit strange. it still needs organization.. I had the italian sandwich and it was excellent, the perfect balance. The scoop of potato salad was a bit small. I felt like I was in a warehouse.. This is pretty cool place! Two mistresses are twins sisters. They are so fabulous. Waitresses are very quick and prompt. They are very friendly and open-minded. We recently came by on Sunday morning as it looked like a nice cafe. We were looking forward to trying a latte and some pastries. We went inside to sit at the bar area. Unfortunately, we sat around waiting for service. One of two ladies said they have other orders ahead of us and she promptly went outside to the espresso machine and didn't bother taking our order. The other lady behind the bar never said a word to us or try to make us feel welcome or try to take our order for anything else. After waiting 10 mins we just left. Stopped in on Sunday morning for a quick bite before church. The waitress at the front bar area was very happy and friendly. She was able to rush my order, which was nice. This is a great a place for locals and out of towners. My aunt was visiting from Israel, so my mother, father & grandfather decided it would be a great place to take her for breakfast and lunch, especially since it's down the street, on niles blvd. We still love Joe's and head up here at least a couple times a month. Such great service and the coffee drinks and sandwich menu are great. We are definitely pulling for Joe's!! A couple cons we had hoped they would have fixed by now: 1. We do wish they would warm up the interior decor a bit. Either go Coffee House funky or old style bar plush, but it is so open, bare and cold. Unless you sit at the bar the ambiance is pretty blah. 2. They need to add one or two hot breakfast items like a breakfast sandwich or a simple warm slice of bacon feta quiche. 3.We'd recommend they get rid of the muffins and random pastries and keep to the sticky buns and add fresh bagels. Obviously they want to make more of a mark as a lunch spot which makes total sense, but if you are going to offer awesome lattes, you need to have 2-4 solid, regular breakfast items. We strongly suggest a couple (2 cooked, 2 baked) signature breakfast items that people want to buy along with their coffee. Otherwise, no complaints. We love this neighborhood joint and highly recommend it for a morning coffee, a fabulous mid-day sammie, or a pre-dinner pint! read more
