Nice, practical stop on the walk back toward the Marriott after dinner in the North End at The Daily Catch. It was a hot day and I needed somewhere to cool off quickly. Joe's delivered with a couple of solid cocktails in an air-conditioned bar that looks out over the harbor and marina. The location works well if you are already walking the waterfront. Service was fine for a casual bar stop, and the views through the big windows are a clear plus. I did not order food, so this is strictly a drinks-and-atmosphere note. Location is beautiful. Views are amazing and that is where it ends with this place. Went in for dinner last night. Had a reservation for 3, we got sat right away. 20 minutes before our server got to us. Gave her drink and good order. My sangria was good, the margaritas were horrible. We didn't get our food for over an hour. Saw others were getting served bread and butter so we asked if we could get some , we were starving. Good finally came out and everything was cold. Like cold cold. French fries, burger stone cold. Like it had been made and sat on a counter for 40 mi it's until it was brought to me. My son had a grilled chicken salad and his fiancée had a steak poke bowl. Her steak was raw she had asked for it medium well. Never saw our server once we had good, couldn't complain if we wanted to. Tables were finishing up and the restaurant was emptying out but when we left there was a huge line at the door. I don't know if they were letting the kitchen catch up or what. I did notice they go take out orders, and Uber Eats. Honestly if you cannot take care of the patrons sitting in your establishment, you shouldn't also take on the chore of doing take out as well. Chill. Relaxing. Maybe warm if you're sitting right in the sun. Food: kinda expensive for what you get. Would not say it is great by any means. Calamari had more veggies than fish. Breading was good though. And spices were nice. Lobster roll was a little bland. My kid had the butter pasta and it was also a bit bland. We tried next door first, but the wait was outrageous. No wait at Joe's. Joe's is in a great location on the water. Nice views of the wharf. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the Reuben. The fish was cooked perfectly. Flakey and not dry at all. My wife was not as impressed with her sandwich. The meat was stringy, not shaved. Side salads were very good. As soon as we received the food, we had to ask for silverware. Our waiter said "oh that will go well on a yelp review!" Anyway, after that, we never saw our waiter again, not even going to other tables. Vanished! No refills. We had to ask the manager for our check. We have no idea what happened to our waiter, but let's say the waiter had an emergency and had to leave. No turnover to another waiter? As many waitstaff as we saw walking around (and there are a ton), Joe's does a terrible job with service. I agree with another Yelper who said prices aren't that bad for seafood. $26 for fish and chips is reasonable nowadays, even beyond Boston. read more

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible ... we were a party of 8 with reservations. We were lead to the second floor corner of the room it was hot and stuffy !! We waiting to even get a server for at least 10-15 to introduce themselves. When he finally came over Edwin ( you could tell he was new, even at that he was good I feel he should have had better guidance !!!) The drinks were watered down ( maybe because it was hot and stuffy). The chowder was awful it tasted it was old and reheated adding extra black pepper and some cream to liven it up. When the meals came out they looked and tasted like they had been left in a microwave way too long, yes it was that bad. I am so disappointed. I had a reservation for two then changed it to four then two other freinds called me a half hour from reservation time and they accommodated me to a party of six. They are so accommodating. Showed up for brunch at 10am when they opened. Plenty of staff, seated us instantly. Waited at table for over 15 mins and nobody ever came by. I went to host station and asked if anyone knew we were there. Said they would send someone right over. Another 10 mins went by and nobody. I can give my money to other places, won't be back again. We had an extremely disappointing experience at Joe's. We usually go to their location on Newbury Street for the convenience and gluten free options and decided to attend their location on the water for seafood and a wonderful view. We sat by the window overlooking the harbor which had an incredible view but there were multiple flies buzzing inside. Our waitress was extremely nice and accommodating to our large party and dietary restrictions. The food was slow to arrive which was expected for a busy Saturday afternoon. The food was great until we got to the bottom of the chili bowl where we found a piece of metal the size of a pea. We told our waitress who was very apologetic and offered to take the chili and drinks off the bill. It was a very nice gesture but entirely not her fault, probably a mistake made in the kitchen. If you're coming to Joe's, it's gotta be for the views! It's located in an awesome spot, right on the edge of the North End, just along the water. There's nothing better on a nice day. They do have plenty of indoor seating as well. I found the service to be fairly standard. My friends and I enjoyed our meals. The food was solid for American cuisine, but nothing out of this world. I was debating between the raw seafood items and prepared foods; I ended up choosing the beet and goat cheese salad, and crab cake. The food arrived quickly and as ordered (I asked for no cilantro in the crab cake). The crab cake looked a bit unfortunate, but tasted alright. The beet salad however, was a mess. The greens were drenched in dressing, and the goat cheese tasted like (and had the consistency of) mayonnaise. Despite the food, the service was awesome. I ordered three things: Chicken piccata, soup, and the cookie. All three were super gross. They arrived without as much as salt and pepper, crackers, or bread. Advertised on their menu as a bread bowl soup, but arrives in a container. Soup was cold, mediocre, and lacking clams. It was too sweet (with no salt to be found; inedible). The cookie arrived a liquid mesh (I'm not from here but this didn't seem normal). We've thrown away everything, and tried eating the chicken. Sub par chicken breast that seemed like fast bar food. Three items cost me $75.00 on uber. IMO this place was not worth it. Lesson learned. read more

After passing this restaurant for years, I finally went it. Amazing water views! The menu has ample starter and entree choices, varying from the normal seafood choices (but, yes, there is clam chowder as well as other seafood choices). I did opt for a cup of clam chowder - super rich and thick - lots of bacon, potatoes, and clams. That hit at a solid 8. I had the steak bowl, which consists of steak tips, jasmine rice, diced tomatoes, greens, and avocado slices. A really good dish, but it had something akin to a sushi taste - I could taste something fishy (pun intended), but I could not figure out what it was. Still, super good! The steak was beyond tender, and it is enough to feed two smaller people (meaning it was a large portion for me). That dish was a solid 9. I saw another table order chocolate cake and ice cream, and it was decadent, and I only wish I was not so full from dinner, because it looked simply stunning! We sat outside on the patio on a busy Sunday night. They estimated our wait about 2 hours for our party of 6, but only ended up being an hour! And that hour was spent letting our toddler play at the playground, in the sandpit and on the carousal. Such a smooth wait and pretty location to be in! Then we had Phil as our waiter and he was honestly THE BEST. He was attentive, informative and very personable! We had the crab dip and oysters (omg so good), as well as multiple main dishes! The Maine Lobster was well worth it and delicious! The lobster rolls and Captain Platter were good as well, although lots of good other options to choose from as well!
