4.5 stars for the flavored vodka selection. They stocked most of my favorites, which made for easy, refreshing summer cocktails. I only ordered the New England Clam Chowder (once as a pre-dinner snack and once for lunch). It was hearty and genuinely good both times. Waterline sits on the lobby level (one flight up) of the Boston Marriott Long Wharf. The location is convenient, the space is well air-conditioned, and it offered a solid break from the August heat. I appreciated having it right there and had a pleasant overall visit. The bar does get very busy. The two servers working our section were clearly stretched thin, which showed in reduced patience and less polished service. Additional staff during peak periods would improve the experience. No happy hour, no drink specials, and no doubles appear to be the local norm here. Even so, this remains a decent, comfortable spot. I'll be back. read more

Waterline is a nice hotel bar tucked inside the Boston Marriott Long Wharf hotel. Before dinner I thought I'd grab a happy hour drink. No such luck, there is no Happy Hour in Boston Common. However! This place was fantastic. The food was amazing, super unique and when we received our order- just flavorfull and perfect. We had leftovers and it warmed up nicely as well- even though it was a cream based pasta sauce. The drinks were powerful which is delightful when it was $20 for a specialty cocktail. The decor was elevated and modern but also had some wood details. Service was *mostly* good. For dinner, our waitress disappeared multiple times and never checked in- another server took our order, and eventually gave us our checks. We tipped him specifically. I sat at the bar to have a glass of wine to bring to my room at the hotel. I sat there from 839PM to 905PM and determine either the server did not go behind the bar other than for her own drinks and did not acknowledge a patron waiting and the older man in suspenders talking to all the other patrons, mostly couples, did not see my business as welcome, even after waving him down twice. It is interesting when I asked the front desk about a place to purchase a drink he kept telling me to go back there even though the service is horrendous. The clueless old man is and the server on June 19 ruined the evening for me. Thank you much. The waitstaff was 10/10 the food was 0/10. Salsa tasted like Tostitos. Hummus was definitely sabra or cedar's. The Calamari was not homemade - it tasted like it was frozen and was not crunchy at all. The piece of salmon was the size of a small mouse. The french fries were the frozen crinkle cut kind. All of this to say that the food is not fresh or made to order. There was a function happening at the same time we were having dinner and I hope that they weren't getting the same food we were. She knew I was there to celebrate my niece's 10th birthday and she told our waiter Mike. He sang a beautiful happy birthday to her and she was so happy! Went here for breakfast as it was the obvious option since we were staying the in the hotel for the wedding. I regret not venturing out for this meal, even though it was not breakfast. Service - boy was that lacking. We had a few issues and had to flag down our waiter every time. He was pleasant enough, just seemed uninterested in waiting tables. Whoops! He gave 3 of the 4 of of us water, guess they were experiencing a water shortage that day. I had to share with my husband, luckily he does not have cooties. Food - Paula Dean's restaurant uses less butter than this place, yuck! I ordered the crab, mushroom, spinach, and potato scramble. It came sitting in a half inch of melted butter. I could see the dish glistening across the restaurant. Since I hate sending food back, I opted not to, I just had them drain my food on the waiters recommendation. In hind sight I should have just had them remake it as everything had already been saturated. I figured I would nibble on my english muffin while I waited for my food to drain and guess what I found, nooks and crannies filled with butter. Drat. My husbands $18 scrambled eggs looked and tasted like they were scooped from the buffet, though his bacon was quite tasty and we managed to get 2 of the 3 pieces crispy. Waterline restaurant, in the Marriott Long Wharf hotel, produced a primarily favorable breakfast experience. We ordered a la carte entrees, and did not partake in the breakfast buffet (about $31.00/per person). The quality, flavors, and presentation of our entrees were excellent, and our service was good. Breakfast entree prices, plus the cost of coffee and juice are pricey, typical, perhaps, of a downtown Boston hotel. The ambiance of Waterline is nice; the restaurant seems small, and the reference above to Boston Harbor views from the restaurant, is funny. In my opinion, you'd be very hard pressed to find a Boston Harbor View at Waterline; certainly, not like the views of the Marriott Long Wharf restaurant that preceded Waterline. Waterline is immaculate - spotless. Getting our parking validated was time-consuming, dysfunctional, and surrounded by mixed messages, beginning with assurances the day before, that the restaurant validates parking for restaurant guests. The Restaurant Manager told us that they discontinued that practice, which, in my opinion, is short-sided, as many hotel restaurants that we visit in Boston, validate parking for restaurant guests. read more

As it says when you click on 2 stars, "Meh, I've experienced better", that about sums up the meal and the whole dining experience here. This was not on our must-try restaurant list for Boston. However, we got into Boston incredibly late due to our flight being delayed 3 times. Yes, 3 times. We were all set to board on time when we were told that the FAA delayed the flight by an hour. An hour came and went, then we were told it would be delayed yet another hour. Finally, we boarded, taxied out to the runway for take off, when the pilot said we had to go back to the gate because the plane was low on some type of fluid. An hour after that, we finally took off and had the fastest flight ever to Boston. We landed to pouring rain, at this point, past 10 p.m. After getting to the hotel and being really hungry, the restaurant in the hotel was open until 1 a.m. So...it was either get a bite there or eat nothing. We checked into our room, then went to the restaurant. But I digress. This was a Friday night and the restaurant was filled with rowdy people celebrating the Bruins win. We were seated and given menus, then watched as servers kept passing our table. My husband asked one if this was her section, she said "no". Finally, my husband found the manager who came to our table, apologized and took our order. A few minutes after taking our order, a server showed up. She said that they were short-staffed that night. That was the only time we saw her. The manager ended up bringing our drinks and food. The kitchen was extremely slow. We both ordered their turkey sandwich which, in addition to the turkey, consisted of watercress, roasted tomato, baby Swiss cheese and basil mayo. It was edible but very lackluster. My husband had a beer while I got a mixed drink. I can't remember what it was but it was strong. When the manager brought the check and we paid, my husband told him he should keep the tip because he was the one who waited on us. The manager said that he was going to give it to the server. I know that restaurants tend to not allow managers to accept tips. But still... Normally, if we were seated in a restaurant and no server showed up in a reasonable amount of time, we would just go elsewhere. However, given the horrible weather and the late hour, we were a captive audience (of sorts). This restaurant also serves a weekend breakfast buffet which is expensive. And, no, we didn't try it. So...I would say give this restaurant a pass. If you stay at the Boston Long Wharf Marriott, this is the restaurant that does room service. My advice would be to nix the idea of room service here unless you, for some reason, have no other choice. read more

Not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars. Absolutely amazing service and food. Everything was clean, service was a tad on the slower side but worth the wait. I ordered the salmon, can't remember the menu name, and it was one of the best pieces of salmon I've had in my entire life, and I've eaten quite a bit of salmon. It came with brussel sprouts (which I'm not the biggest fan of) but they were amazing. The pesto mashed potatoes were really the star of the show. Everyone else in my party were extremely pleased with their dishes as well. Our server was attentive and informative. I visited this restaurant twice in one weekend! I was in Boston for work, and stayed at the Boston Marriott at Long Wharf. This restaurant is in the lobby of the hotel, so granted, it was very convenient, but I had both dinner and lunch there and both meals were tremendous! Not to mention, the views of the seaport are beautiful if you grab a window seat! I ate at the bar both times, and it was super easy. Stopped in for a couple drinks...didn't touch the food, since I just had a heavy burger down the street. First of all, the atmosphere is very classy, chic, and comfortable. It was fairly slow the day I went, so it was easy to get my drinks rollin! Mai Tai ($12): Appleton Rum, Triple Sec, Myers Dark Rum, and Lime. A strong version of this classic...pretty heavy on the Appleton, which is my FAVORITE rum btw! If you are not familiar with Appleton, it is a very strong/flavorful Jamaican rum, so if you are used to sweet white rums, this may be a bit much for you. Also tried the Allagash ($9.50). Very high alcohol content (9%) for a beer...it was still enjoyable! Don't expect a smooth surfer though with double the alc! The Pineapple Mojito ($14): Malibu Pineapple, Mint, Lime, and Pineapple Juice. This was on the sweet end, but still pretty tasty. I finished off with Macallan 12yr....get this, $20! Goddamn that hurt...at least it was a heavy hand, but wow. Prices are a little high but not unreasonable on the cocktails. This place is good, especially for a hotel restaurant. The view is awesome. I had a glass of wine and sirloin steak which was very good. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is the service was surprisingly slow given there were only 6 tables full and my waitress seemed like she'd rather be anywhere else although I'm not sure if that's just her personality. I also waited a few minutes at the host stand before I just walked to a waitress and asked if I could just sit anywhere. Anyway good food, worth a try, maybe it was just a bad night for the staff. read more

Lunch Review: I noticed the fish n chips on the menu. Then I noticed the mahi fish tacos and ordered them. Was not expecting the deep fried fish n chips fish to arrive in the fish tacos. There was a lime for garnish, thank goodness - nothing else about the dish had flavor. No salsa, nothing. The lobster roll was fine. Not exciting but fresh and light lobster meat. Someone in my party asked for it in salad form and after digging in, asked for mayonnaise to go with it. Another person order watermelon and basil juice. There wasn't anything basil about it, just watermelon juice. The fries were good! Long hot crispy, not mealy and the ketchup was good too! This is no small thing, so yes, good fries. It's a hit or miss at this restaurant with the food. We shared the characterrie platter. The prosciutto and salami had a old stale taste. I also order for take out a bowl of calm chowder. Went to my room and there was no spoon or napkin and no crackers. Had to go back to get. I ordered takeout, the Caesar salad on the that night and two other days. The first night I waited 50 for my salad and that clam chowder. The salad was delicious. The second night I waited 45 mins for the same salad only and sardines were put on top. I like sardines but I was never asked if I wanted it or not. They tasted terrible. I had to remove them. Then third day I preordered the salad only. I order from the bar area. I told him I would pick up in 1hour please have it ready behind the bar and I would pick it up. I came back 1 hour. The salad was not ready and had to wait another 15 mins. I think the wait staff needs to inform their coworkers what is going on. Because a different guy was on bar duty. Also the inconsistency of the same item ordered. The wait staff is very pleasant. They greet you accordingly with water and the menu. But you order, wait forever and some of the food items should be top notch. This hotel also has a resort fee. So I would have hoped they have top notch food. The restaurant is clean and good music and drinks in the bar area. Also the breakfast bar is wonderful. read more

A very nice hotel bar. My husband and I were attending an event at the Aquarium and had some time to kill. We figured we would pop into the hotel and check if there was a bar, sure enough we found Waterline. We had a lovely seat next to the window and although we had intended to only have a few drinks we ended up ordering soup and a sandwich. I had the French onion soup and a local beer, it was done perfectly. My husband had a chicken sandwich which he repeatedly told me how good the chicken was and the sauce that was put on the sandwich.
